It was a nice July day, the 17th to be exact. This was racing day! A few courses had been set up around the grounds of the school and at the campgrounds for student-created Gnomes to race for the finish line. A collection of students had gathered to both watch and participate as the noon sun scorched down on them all.

The course in front of them all today was a lot of cobblestone pathways marked off with little bricks to keep the gnomes on track. It wasn't complex, but it had a few enchanted obstacles. Some of the bricks in the floor would fluctuate and randomly rise up. Some would even twist around together to cause a blockade. It would be a good first test of how the gnomes handled challenges. Spectators would be able to line up around the various points of the track to watch, but generally the entire mini course was visible from any point along it for even a child to see over the top.

At the starting line, a smaller crowd of participants was murmuring and placing their gnomes at the line. The little things had been enchanted and were chomping, some literally, at the bit to begin their adventure. Donald was among them with his cute little gnome he'd made earlier at camp. It seemed a bit mopey and lazy. Donald wasn't sure why, but their personalities all seemed random. A little sigh escaped as he set the gnome at the line, and it instantly sat down. That didn't bode well for the Hufflepuff boy's potential placements. He'd be lucky not to get last with that attitude.

"Students, place your gnomes at the line! We will begin the first race shortly!" Came the announcement from a staff member. Donald could only offer a shrug and stepped back from his gnome to await the race.

OOC Notes:
Only post if you signed up for the Gnome Races Here.
Each gnome signed up needs to post in the RP at least once before the race ends for their score to count.
Race ends on Saturday Night, with next race starting Sunday Afternoon.

Gnome Racing
It was July Seventeeth, the day of the Gnome Race. Tristan woke up with determination and expectation to see his gnome win. However, it was not up to his control. Exielsor Phillip Aliarin the Third, the name of his gnome, would use his endurance to see the race through, or not. The gnome had a perfectly teal cap, with a green sweater, red gloves, black shoes, and a black belt with a gold buckle. Tristan walked towards the raceway with his gnome in hand and made his way to the starting line. He saw Donald Fish, the person who had organised the race, place his gnome on the starting line. In mirror movement, Tristan placed Sir Exielsor on the starting line and wished it good luck in whimsical fashion. Tristan stood ready, as he waited for the other competitors to come. As he waited he began to consider the chances of his gnome, a low chance indeed. He supposed no one would bet on his gnome, who had very little wit, however, there was a possibility his endurance would last him through. Perhaps he would not get first, but he would most likely make it to the end of the race, hopefully.

An obstacle race- there had been something similar last summer, yet it had been Kit racing and not Kit's gnome that she hoped had been made well enough in the workshop. It hadn't looked too complicated in the tent, just a matter of choosing what pieces one wanted and combining it all with a bit of a creative touch that the Beauxbatons student was sure she possessed, although she hadn't ever tried making a gnome before. She'd glance down at Yorick Roy, the gnome in question, smiling at the colorful and slightly angry little guy. "You'll do great! Just- uh- keep going if there's obstacles." She shrugged, not really sure what advice to give Yorick. Yorick also didn't know how to react, a blank stare that seemed to go on for miles- kilometers? Regardless, the fourth year held a lot of love for her little creation, gently placing the gnome at the starting line and taking a step back to look at the other competitors and the course.

Two had already arrived with their gnomes as well, glancing towards their gnomes as she compared the three of them. Ultimately, Kit had no clue what to judge on or how to do so, dropping her observations to give them each a wave. "Good luck! I'm excited to see how they'll fare-" The course didn't look too bad, although the cobblestones moving could easily prove a challenge if not paying attention. This was only the first race, now curious about what might happen on other races. Hopefully Yorick would survive but if not, it'd be fun to spectate and debate which ones she thought would win!

EmmaLee bounded out of bed early that morning, buzzing with excitement. Well, she didn't quite bound, as she was trying not to wake her fellow bunkmates, but she definitely got out of bed as quickly and quietly as she could, rushed to the bathroom to change into a strappy yellow sundress with yellow sandals, and rushed out of the cabin. As she headed out the door, she pulled her long, white hair into one high pony tail and grabbed a white sun parasol from her bag, knowing that it was going to be a bright, sunny day at the races.

She spent the morning walking around the grounds, too excited to sit still for long as she waited for the races to start and she was eventually able to wander over and collect her gnome, Gnome Matter What. She had made him with a red hat decorated with with race cars and a black and white checkered finish line design for the brim, a white beard, and blue shoes. She found him adorable. It didn't really matter if he won and she hoped that she would get to keep him once it was over.

She walked over to the starting line for the first race course, gave her gnome a big hug, and placed him next to the other few gnomes waiting to start before walking over to the sidelines to watch. She gave a wave and a peppy "'Ello, all." to those already standing there. At the moment, they were all older students that she didn't know, so she was a little bit shy about starting up a full conversation with any of them. She popped open her parasol to shield herself from the heat and the sun's rays on her pale skin. She didn't typically burn, but one couldn't be too careful and they were going to be out here for quite a while.

𝒜madea was excited: today was the day of the gnome races. She had spent a few days earlier in the week creating a beautiful gnome for this race and she was excited to see how Bidget was going to perform. If she was being completely honest, she had meant to name her gnome 'Bridget' but had accidentally misspelled the name when she had been officially registering the gnome, so Bidget it was; it seemed quite reminiscent of her own friend, Adam Harringtom's, name. Of course, she had no idea if that was true, but...c'mon. Harringtom? She digressed.

She had to focus on this competition. The gnome race. Amadea, holding Bidget, assessed the competition and noticed that a lot of the students were lining up their gnomes, getting ready for the race to begin. Amadea followed suit, placing Bidget down at the starting line and giving her a pat on the head. She felt a little bit weird talking to the gnome, but at the same time, everyone else was doing it so she at least was not going to be perceived as weird. "Alright, Bidget," Amadea said enthusiastically. "This is what you were born to do. So go out there and crush the competition!" Looking around, Amadea didn't see anyone who looked familiar to her, but it appeared as though she was one of the first to show up, so perhaps she would recognize someone a little later on.

Looking out at the obstacle course, Amadea hoped that she had built Bidget to make it through the course. Just like herself, her gnome was slightly lacking in the muscle department, but she was hoping that Bidget's endurance and wit would make up for the lack of brawn. She was excited to see what would happen. Another student had made an introduction, so Amadea reciprocated, smiling at all of the other contestants. "Good luck everyone! May the best gnome win."

Tristan observed as others began trailing into the race, mostly around his age which pleased him so. However, a young girl burned his eyes with a bright yellow dress and a white parasol. Such brightness and happiness had no place near him and it was something that made his lips terse. However, her French accent lifted his spirit, slightly as he schemed to use his French to charm both the Beauxbatons girl and the younger one. Tristan asked as he nodded to indicate both the youngest girl present and the girl that was about his age. “Bonjour, Comment ça va? C’est un jour magnifique pour une course. Bonne chance à tous!” Comment t’appelles tous? Je m’appelle Tristan Theramin, Ç’est un plaisir de recontrer tout le monde.” He spoke French without an accent as he had already started learning the language at a young age. He then turned to the young woman he recognized from the hufflepuff dueling team, and bowed, “And you, you are from Hufflepuff correct, Amadea or something like that? I believe I have heard of you. I am Tristan Theramin.” He spoke such, in a perfectly posh British accent, demonstrating his noble blood. He had a slight smile on his face to create a sense of gentility and kindness although he felt nothing on the inside. He was a polite and silver tongued fellow but with far more darkness than most might see inside.

Calming Presence in Effect
One of the activities of the summer was gnome making and subsequent racing and Piérre was ALL for it. He and his brother had worked together to make this little guy, as a matter of fact, with Piérre acting the role of the true mad scientist as his brother watched in horror from (mostly) the sidelines and ensured that his ‘younger’ twin didn’t accidentally create a wizarding version of an IED due to ‘crossing wires’ or ‘shorting circuits’ with the clockwork involved in the crafting it.

Through their collective efforts, the Marchonné twins created their racer and fighter with just enough time to spare Romeo the totality of a complete mental break with all the nonsense of Piérre himself. Tiddlywink was born that day, a mecha-gnome that looked like it was literally pulled out of the dumpster and then had random junk thrown on top of its short frame. As Piérre had said as he lovingly strapped all kinds of sharpened shrapnel on the stumps of its arms; “It’ll have KNIVES for HANDS! Like GENO but KNIFE!”

“Wouldn’t Edward Scissorhands be a better comparison, gemellino? little twin Romeo had asked tiredly, massaging his temples as he walked with Piérre to the starting point of the race. “Did you make sure to wind him up? You don’t want him to stop working in the middle of the race.”

Ah, dear and beloved Romeo. Always a worrier, always trying to make sure that everything went well in whatever project he undertook. While Piérre had been working to make the fella battle-worthy, Romeo had been trying to make it so that the item would be able to handle itself in tricky situations and able to withstand both battery and any momentarily difficult challenges that rose in its way. Piérre waved him off. “Yeah yeah, don’t worry. I did.” He promised his brother with a hum to his words. “Tiddlywink is built tough. Anything that tries to get in his way is gonna get SMOKED.” So saying, Piérre checked the clockwork wind to make sure that he had indeed wound it up to the fullest. He tended to have a streak of forgetfulness over the small things, after all, so it never hurt to make double and triple sure that everything was as it should be before getting a bit too carried away like he had a propensity to do.

But still it seemed that Romeo had some concerns. “Being able to brute force your way through things isn’t always the way to handle things, brother.” One could almost hear the eyeroll in the giant of a boy’s words. “I should know.” His voice turned low and reminding, an intonation that Piérre couldn’t help but chuckle lightly at. Yes, the two of them didn’t always see eye to eye on things. Heck, sometimes they didn’t even get along in the slightest. Indeed, some confrontations had even come to blows on occasion. Still, when the worst came to the worst, it seemed that they were highly capable of being totally inseparable just as they were currently.

“Yeah… I know. Still, I mostly want to see the big mecha-fight at the end and see Tiddlywink play tiddlywinks with any of the other gnomes who go up against him, you know?” The kid fixed the little ivy necklace around the upper body of Tiddlywink, checking here and there and then shaking him once to hear for any jingling loose parts. Romeo took both of Piérre’s hands to get him to stop, which only caused the shorter boy to grin even more wildly.

“It’ll be a while before the final fight, though. You want to score well in the early races as well, you know.” Romeo reminded, voice of reason he was.

Piérre snorted. “Romeo, it’s for fun. You’d think this was the ‘Romeo must win and destroy all’ kind of event.”

“I can’t help thinking like a strategist.”

“I know. That’s why I’m telling you to sthap.” The boy teased as he elbowed Romeo in the iron-hard abs. “This is for fun, actual fun. No tricks, no nonsense. Just good old fashioned family bonding with Tiddlywink, the fruits of our labors and who experienced all this trauma within just a few days of being created.” Piérre couldn’t help but laugh. “Tell you what, I’ll set him up and you find a good place in the crowd. I’ll find you and you’ll let me sit on your shoulders. I know you’re more than capable of carrying me.” The Italian spun once with abandon as Romeo rolled his eyes again.

So saying, Piérre took his place with the other competitors and took time to make his final adjustments before letting Tiddlywink do his thing the very moment everyone was instructed to release their creations. Rushing back to his brother as quickly as he could, he then proceeded to scamper up Romeo’s shoulders (despite the complaints that came from him in the process) and perch with a crisscross over both his shoulders. As Piérre whooped and hollered with reckless abandon as he cheered their creation on, Romeo had to keep as firm a hold as he could manage on Piérre’s legs to prevent his eccentric brother from taking a six foot tumble. Still, despite his relative silence compared to his brother, perhaps Romeo was enjoying himself too. That was always a good thing.

After working together on this mess of a gnome, my brother and I were ready to see just how well this junk of junk would race on the open track that was set up for a 'test-run' of their skills and attributes. Today was different from the stressors of everything else that had happened this early year; this was almost a peaceful reprieve from the messes and the destructive happenings that had occurred even as recently as a few weeks ago.

I didn't want to be stressing out, not today. Today was just going to be the enjoyment of racing a thing that Piérre and I had spent time creating together; there would be banter and teasing and definitely a snide remark or two between us... but in the end we were finally spending time together and enjoying one another's company. Of course, I still had reservations on the countenance and the nature of my twin thanks to all the nonsense that he had decided it was a good idea to pull on me in April... but...

Even I had to admit that I couldn't stay angry at him forever. I couldn't bear to hold a grudge for any longer than I had in the past; a span of half a year. Even Piérre himself must have felt the same way, for even when he had proclaimed with all the confidences in the world that he hated me and never wanted to see me again he was still here with me, walking with me as we approached the location of the first race.

After Piérre had set up our creation (lovingly named Tiddywink), he scurried back to me and took to my shoulders, using my height to his advantage so that he had the best seat in the house to watch the ongoing race. I only remained quiet with my brows furrowed, watching and observing for flaws int he machine that I would be able to remedy if it did indeed end up breaking down mid-race.

It was time for the gnome races. Bloom was very excited to see how her randomly colored gnome would do during the race. Carefully, Bloom brought her gnome from the workshop area, the purple, orange and blue gnome with a serious face. She couldn't help but to smile knowing how lovely the outing was when making this gnome. In the hour that it took to put together and paint, it had witnessed laughter, seriousness, playfulness and discussion. But of course, that doesn't mean it'll be the fastest in a race.

Bloom placed the gnome, called Gnedork, onto the starting line. She looked at how many other gnomes there were and figured that it would be a slight chance to winning. The odds were definitely low and having Bloom win this race wouldn't necessary happen, but it was always worth a shot.

Looking around with her chocolate eyes, she saw a fellow seventh year girl who was joining the races as well. They spoke to their gnome and then wished everyone good luck. "Good luck to you, too, Amadea," she said with a small smile. Bloom was sincere. "Your gnome looks like a possible champion," Bloom added. She figured it would be fun to have someone to banter with when the games actually began.

EmmaLee twirled her parasol in sudden nervousness as the older boy spoke to her, significantly older boys speaking to her only seemed to lead to her own embarrassment, but she didn't lose her cheery demeanor as she piped a quiet "Bonjour" Hello in response to his paragraph. Part of her own Hufflepuffyness was a deep endeavor to be polite and friendly, but on top of her uncomfortable feeling about his age, the boy gave her stranger danger vibes. She didn't quite understand why. He was polite and genteel enough.

Maybe it was the way the corners of his piercing hazel eyes didn't crinkle when he smiled, or the accessing, almost judging way he looked at her dress and parasol. Was there something wrong with her dress? She looked down at it and waved the skirt a bit with her hand. She knew it fit well and wasn't revealing in any way. She was almost too lost in thought about it to respond to his questions, but came back to reality as he turned to another girl and asked her about Hufflepuff.

"Ah. Uh, ravie de vous rencontrer aussi, Tristan." Ah. Uh, it is nice to meet you as well, Tristan. She stumbled through, determined to look right in his face despite her small bout of nervousness. "Je suis EmmaLee LeDames. Je suis à Hufflepuff ainsi que Miss Amadea, mais je suis en deuxième année." I'm EmmaLee LeDames. I'm in Hufflepuff as well as Miss Amadea, but I'm a second year. She said, gesturing to the other Hogwarts girl. EmmaLee didn't know Amadea almost at all, but she had heard her name and matched her face around the common room. She also knew that Amadea was on the dueling team because she was hoping to sign up this year. It might be nice to get to know Amadea come to think of it. Argh. She got distracted in her own thoughts again.

"I'm very excited for the race today." She said as a more general statement to the group. "I hope everyone does well and more importantly I hope everyone has fun." She finished with a wide smile and a more confident twirl of her parasol.

As she did so, she looked around for the one person and gnome that she had been hoping to see already, Stephen Schwartz and his cleverly named Gnome N. Clature. Stephen had made such a cute little gnome and maybe she was subconsciously hoping that he would like her outfit for today, but that was a thought best stuffed into the recesses of her mind, right? It wasn't like someone like Stephen cared what she looked like, right? She visibly waved the thought away by scrunching up her pale nose and waving her hand in front of her face. Why was she so unfocused right now? She had a race to pay attention to.

Reuben had spent quite a lot of effort in making his gnome and he was determined to win. It could not be too hard, could it? It was not like Reuben would mind if he lost, but he wanted his efforts to be at least slightly fruitful.

Reuben loved how there was so much to do at the Summer Camp, and wished that it would go on forever. There was so much to do, so many fun people to talk with and so much to explore. He might be in the Dead Horse cabin, but he was very much alive, and was willing to be the most lively person in the camp. However, there were less than 15 days left to form bonds that would last, and Reuben was not very sure how he would do that.

"Hey everyone!", he said as he entered the area, gnome in hand. He kept the gnome in the line and smiled, patting his gnome's head. "Do well my little gnome", he said in Arabic, gently patting the gnome's head. He stepped back, waiting for the race to begin and hoping that he would win. He would not cheat, but her would shout encouragements and if possible, hints at his gnome every now and then, even if the gnome could not hear him.
