Never Danced Like This Before
forward dated to 22 september, 2023
early morning
Lea had decided to try dancing. Never before had the Hufflepuff expressed any interest in learning the art but a new school year meant new experiences, right? Fourth year Lea didn't want to be like the third year version, a burn-it-all-down mentality that she both wanted and feared, edging into it yet holding the same expectations as she did in the past. Dance felt like a shift, regardless of if it was or not, but it could still help her in dueling with nimbleness and balance. While she had cemented the idea, the Hufflepuff was very unaware of the large variety that was dancing or how much others had practiced in order to achieve their level of talent.
She entered the Rehearsal Room early in the morning with a book on the basic positions in ballet, an enchanted radio, and too much confidence for someone who had slightly panicked upon seeing the sheer amount of styles there were. Ballet had been one of the few names she recognized, also vaguely aware of comments she had heard in the past of how challenging it was. Her early arrival had been for a reason, peeking into the room to make sure it wasn't occupied before fully stepping in. While not really a shy person, the curtains would be closed on the portraits as any struggles would be embarrassing enough on her own and didn't need an audience.
The radio would find its way to the side, temporarily turned off as Lea opened up the book for the first time. There seemed to be a pause as brown eyes stared down at the diagrams before she firmly closed it shut and dropped it next to the radio. It looked too easy and just seemed boring, instead deciding to immediately try 'dancing' to one of the songs on the wizarding radio. She wasn't picky on what song played, quickly stepping back as the music filled the space and the Hufflepuff began to move.
To her, it was enjoyable, a chance to hear the music and follow along, almost a bit freeing in its art and privacy. To others, grace vanished in Lea's presence, clear that she was far more used to dodging. Her steps acted more as lurches, each move reactive to the song and off-beat instead of feeling where the music would go next. Indecisiveness over what to do next kept her balance teetering, breaking the rhythm further whenever she had to catch herself with another exaggerated move that only stalled the issue rather than fixed it. Her inexperience was no secret to those who watched but it did seem as though the girl was enjoying herself despite it.
