Desperate Times, and All That
To be explicitly clear, Ami was not desperate. But, on the other hand, the last real relationship she had been in was last year, and she was starting to feel a little lonely. Sure, she had had a couple of situationships and she never turned down the opportunity to flirt with her classmates, but none of that had ever resulted in a real, bonafide relationship. She missed going on dates and holding hands and slow dancing in the moonlight and conjuring flowers to make someone smile and— well, you get the idea. Despite her best efforts, Ami was well and truly lonely. So while she had Scott and she had her favorite ex-girlfriend and she had her cat, Ami felt that something was missing from her otherwise quite satisfactory life. There was just a certain sort of warmth that a relationship brought with it, a specific type of appreciation and love that you simply couldn't find in other relationships.
It was with this mildly melancholy mood that Ami moped into the library, her mind clearly clouded as she half-heartedly search for a spot to do her work. She rubbed her forehead and sighed, eyes lazily dancing across the library as she looked for an empty table. However, any thought or intention of actually completing her homework flew out of her mind as she caught a glimpse of a head of dark brown hair. She looked so familiar... Ami halted, staring at the girl as she frantically tried to remember who on earth she was. Was she someone in one of her classes? No, she was fairly certain that she wasn't a sixth year. A Quidditch player? No, she knew pretty much everyone her age who played Quidditch. Then maybe it was Racing... or maybe not? Was she someone from a club? Who the hell was it?
Ami approached the student with her eyebrows furrowed, desperately wracking her brain for a name. Emma? Delaney? Lauren? No, no, and certainly not... She was right behind the girl when the name finally came to her. "Bridget!" she exclaimed, far louder than she had intended. Clearing her throat awkwardly, she sidled to the other side of the table, offering the Slytherin duellist a sheepish smile and an awkward, "Erm... hey, Collins." She eased into the seat across from her without waiting for an invitation and her bookbag was dropped onto the ground unceremoniously, her schoolwork long forgotten as it was entirely eclipsed by this new and exciting interaction in front of her. "Long time no see, yeah? What're you uh... up to, I guess?" The latter question was directed at whatever Bridget had out on the table in front of her, paired with a signature toothy smile from Ami. Maybe her issues with loneliness would be solved right here, right now.

@Ami Procoppio
Bridget was having an excellent time... studying. Yes, studying, her absolute favorite. With OWLs right around the corner, she’d officially found her limit of interest in magical studies. The novelty of wizarding had faded years ago, but at least the courses were about cool things rather than maths and history she already knew (though that specific boredom could be blamed on being the weird kid who read her older brother’s textbooks for fun). This was different, hours of headache-inducing work with the threat of a blood-pressure raising, future-deciding exam at the end of it.
Needless to say, she did not have the healthiest or happiest relationship with the Ordinary Wizarding Levels.
All that meant she was spending a lot of her time in the library. Most spare moments, when she wasn't being duelling captain or a good pet owner, were spent with a book cracked open or homework spread out in front of her.
It was tiring and rather dull. That was why the distraction was welcome, even if it came in the form of a conversation with someone she didn’t know very well, and even if she jumped slightly at the sudden noise, turning to blink at the girl sitting down across from her.
Ami was alright, though. At least as far as Bridget knew, which was admittedly not very far, but she was a year older, had been captain of the Hufflepuff Quidditch team (and also Broom Racing? She did a lot), and seemed nice? Loud, maybe. Certainly bolder than Bridget, who would need some sort of threat or incentive to broach conversation with a near-stranger.
“Hi, Ami,” she said, setting down her quill. “I’m slowly being killed by OWLs, I guess.” She pretended to wince, which felt a little dramatic but she supposed wasn’t far from the truth. “What about you? Got, uh, anything going on?”
She mentally grimaced, because Ami was choosing to talk to her in the library, so was clearly not incredibly busy. Well, too late to take back the words now. And at best Ami had come over with something specific to communicate, in which case Bridget had just provided the perfect segue. Yeah, that was it. Definitely her master plan.
