Anastasia was rather irritated. She had gotten all O's and yet she wasn't the teacher's clear favorite. That simply wouldn't do. She had to be the teacher's favorite. End of story. The young Gryffindor thrived off of positive attention from authority figures and while she generally didn't begrudge her classmates the teacher liking them, she did if the teacher seemed to like them as much as or more than her. It seemed to her that she had two options - work harder or take out the competition. Or, maybe both. She decided she'd approach the Slytherin boy, her competition, and pretend to be friendly. While she found direct conflict satisfying and generally easier, for something as important as this, she would have to be delicate. Like a Muggle surgeon, not a hammer. She was good at that though, having grown up in a world where everyone fought while sitting down for tea together.
Having formulated something of a plan, she entered the classroom and immediately saw her mark. Perfect. She made a beeline for him since they had a bit of time before class started. She wasn't exactly sure how to play this. Ask him for help? While that might work, it was embarrassing and she wouldn't lower herself to that level. She supposed she'd approach this the way she'd approached making allies at Hogwarts so far. With lots of confidence.
"Hello there. I'm Anastasia Beckett. I know that you and I are two of the best students in our class, so I was thinking that we could work together," she said, with a bright grin. Her smile didn't quite reach her eyes, but only someone who knew her well would even notice. Her words sounded rather silly and immature to her, but that was fine. Let him underestimate her, like so many had. That would be his mistake.

An iron chandelier and a dragon's skeleton were hanging of the sealing. Enormous windows were light poured through were at the back of the class. A lone projector was standing at the other end of the classroom behind several desks and tables. Erik took a seat at the nearest desk in the Defence of the Dark Arts classroom with his group of fellow first year Slytherins around him. They were laughing and goofing around when he suddenly noticed, in the corner of his eye, that a Gryffindor student was approaching him.
Work together you say? He looked at her from top to bottom before speaking again. Sure, why not work together with a Gryffin... Dor...? Erik had to bite his tongue before he said Gryffindork as the other Slytherins reffered to them. He didn't have anything against the Gryffindors per se, even though the Slytherins and Gryffindors seemed to have a rivalry going on, but they seemed so full and so sure of themselves that was down right annoying at times. This girl didn't seem to be any different to Erik. I'll throw you off your pedestal. , Erik thought with a smug on his face.
To get back to your earlier remark about being two of the best students of our class. That's not true. There can only be one who's the best and it would seem the teacher would agree with me when I say that's me in this particular case. He looked her straight in the eye when he said this. Let me introduce myself. I'm Erik Tharaldson. I originally come from Tønsberg, Norway and I'm heir to the Pure-blood line of Tharaldson. He gave a nod with his head at the other Slytherin student who was sitting next to him and he left to sit next to someone else. Erik pulled back the other chair whilst still sitting in the exact same position as at the start of the conversation. Take a seat., he said whilst motioning to the chair.

Anastasia managed to stop herself from rolling her eyes or making her dislike for this boy noticeable in any way. If he thought her silly or arrogant or whatever, it was to his detriment. She had gotten all O's on everything, and she could think of several teachers who probably preferred her to this snotty Slytherin. Still, she preferred to have a clean sweep.
She looked her jaw when he remarked that he was the best. Still, her years among snobby adults had prepared her perfectly for this moment, because she just smiled mildly at the boy. "Yes, I suppose you're right in this case. Still, I'd rather work with the best student in class than other, and I'm sure you'd prefer the second best to the tenth best," Anastasia said sweetly and logically. It was always best if the person you hated didn't know you hated them until you struck and brought them down. And boy, wow this Slytherin go down...
She wasn't particularly fond of sitting as he said to since it was clearly a dominance move. Still, she had to let him think that he had the upper hand. She kept her mild smile and took a seat. She was exceptionally good at playing the silly, spoiled princess, and that seemed exactly the role that she ought to play now. Once she sat, she tossed her hair over her shoulder and looked at him. "I'm originally from London, the Pureblood line of Beckett," Anastasia told him. She had been told that blood purity was important her entire life before Hogwarts, but she'd started to doubt it recently. Still, it was clearly important to this boy, so she would act as though it was as important to her as her parents had always said it was.
