Oh, that familiar feeling; waking up with an ache in your bones, feeling stiff, your ribs sore and head hurting like crazy. Alma had been here before - she was back in the Hospital Wing. The impact of the bludger - and the ground, for that matter - hurt just as much as it did the first time, but this time she was used to it.

She got up and stretched her arms above her head, wincing as the sharp pain in her ribs came back. She didnโ€™t miss that. Straightening out her bangs, she looked around the dreary room, filled with injured Quidditch players. Well, at least she could ask someone if they won the game.

She wondered who would her visitors be this time. Possibly George again, but Alma just had to make sure she wasnโ€™t a teary mess this time. She had to get an owl to Finn to see if he might come up and see her. She looked at the bed next to her, seeing that unfortunately Avery wasnโ€™t laying beside her. She might have been in another bed, but Almaโ€™s vision was too funny from just waking up to see anything right now. She plopped back down on her bed and rubbed her eyes.

Someone she really wanted to see was her own captain, Howard. Her and Howard had developed a bond like Alma had never had before. Being an only child, she never had a sort of โ€œbuilt-in-best-friendโ€ that she heard kids with siblings talk about. But with Howard, she really felt like she had a โ€˜Big Brotherโ€™ who could look after her. He helped her with Quidditch, understood her struggles being a half-blood in the wizarding world, and would always be there to listen when she needed someone to talk to. He was someone she could look up to when things got tough. He was like a superhero to her.

Speak of the devil, she heard footsteps approaching and lazily picked up her head, blinking her eyes to make them focus on whoever was coming in. A couple moments and the haziness disappeared, and she saw Howard in the Hospital Wing. She shot up, (probably a bad idea considering her headache came back immediately), and held open her arms for a hug. She suddenly got dรฉjร  vu to when George came to visit, but she shook it off.

It had taken all of Howard's concentration during the match not to worry for Alma as she was yet again blasted off her broom with a bludger. Part of him almost flew right at Damion when he sent the blow her way while the other half almost rushed to the ground to check on her. However, that was just the way of Quidditch, but still the feeling sort of surprised him. He had made connections with many people here at Hogwarts. Howard had fallen in love, made good friends, even a best friend that he knew he would be bonded with for life. Yet there was something completely different about how he felt towards Alma. There was this overwhelming urge to look after her. Whether it was a bludger to the ribs or even just a concern with her school work, he felt like it was almost a duty to help see her through it all. Not that he babied her, in fact she was about to get an ear full as soon as he made the climb to the Hospital Wing, but this bond was like no other he had before. Perhaps with them both being only children it was safe to say this was the closest thing he had to a sibling.

After a quick celebration with his remaining teammates, one that was sure to continue late into the night back in the common room, he made his way sick ward. A half sinister grin crossed his face as he contemplated pulling a prank on Alma. "Way to blow it sis! We've lost it all now!", but no, the mental image of her bursting into tears was too strong to go through with it. Howard would be sure to scold her for not paying close enough attention on the pitch. "Head on a swivel!" The stern advice rolled through his mind as he prepared to see her, but the moment he opened the door to the Hospital Wing and caught her eyes was the moment that all washed away. His heart did a little pitter patter as she booted upright and spread her arms for a hug. The lessons could wait as he rushed to console his newfound sister.

"Hey kiddo! How ya feelin'?" Howard wrapped his long arms around her in a gentle, but hopefully reassuring squeeze before tussling her hair and taking a seat beside her bed. As much as he wished she was not in pain he could not stop the huge smile that spread across his face. "Guess what?" Has she heard yet? The nurse better get her healed quick because Hufflepuff was about to throw the rager of the year! "We've won! Oh man you should have seen it! And not only did we best Ravenclaw, but we've won the cup! The whole damn year belongs to Hufflepuff!" Howard bounced in his seat as the high just kept going. All their hard work, all the practicing, all the time spent had finally paid off!
