Even with Bridget’s well-appreciated aid, the web of luminous bindings refused to be undone except in scant increments, stretched painfully taut in near success. If humiliation became a viable duelling strategy, there would be a no better witness than Astrea, whose skilful dodge belied the extent of her lack of amusement. There was ill-borne confidence in the concept of dousing a bound target when the threat of lightning loomed just above…

Any seasoned duellist — and to this, it was undeniable that every person upon the piste was well into their duelling career — could subconsciously feel the time slipping through their fingers, coalescing in the limited possibilities of conjured spells with each new exchange. Astrea was nothing but dead-weight as it was, but even a well-wasted round could set the stage for unpredictability.

A decent amount of misses this time around, in fact only 2 things actually happened this round. One is that Bridget got absolutely battered by a harsh blast of water coming from Alans wand. And Astrea managed to break out of those horrendous vines once more. Del couldn't help but feel a need to cheer her on because those things looked brutal.

Her vision doused in water wasn't the optimal way to go into the last few moments of this duel, and she wasn't thrilled about her clothes dripping and clinging to her skin, but there were more important things. Like battling the dread curling through her stomach--this duel was entirely too close for comfort--that sent her Ventus shooting off, far less controlled than she would have liked it to be.

Astrea was free, at least. That was a streak of unmistakably good news, that they could face the end as a solid pair, weave their magic into something to secure a victory to finish the year. Bridget was trying not to agonize over every mistake this duel, but that did not mean she was uninterested in winning this.

Bolstered by her teammate's inexhaustible aid and the final taste of strategical teasing from Lady Luck herself, Astrea managed to finally break free of her binds and return to casting condition. Such a feat could not be genuinely attributed to her unenviable physical strength, but with Bridget being so unglamorously drenched in the meantime, it ought to be obligatory (for the writer, maybe...) for at least some amount of personal celebration to be had. The duel was nearly at its conclusion, yet both teams seemed relatively fair in terms of condition, clearly not the dramatic beatdown that any bloodthirsty fan was anticipating. Instead, she believed with full conviction, the Vipers would only need to maintain their wits and level enough of a scant difference to secure victory.

Del watched as the cloud hovering over the Gryffindors got blown back over to the Slytherins, the way Alan had no doubt intended it when he had cast it in the first place. Meenauh put up a shield, although it ended up not needing to be used as the only spell cast towards her missed by a decent margin. And along with that, both of the slytherins got a decent amount of their health back, immediately looking better than they had 2 minutes prior.

It was a certain type of frustrating to string misses together like this so near to the end of a duel, but considering her target had become a shield ready to intercept spell, she supposed she couldn't complain. And it felt good to have Astrea back in the action, and the healing spell she showered over them was even better, smoothing over the sting of fast-paced water slamming into her. The returning cloud had a note of anxiety stapled to it, but again, it was unideal, not earth-shattering.

They were fine. They were almost done, they just had to maintain this. Bridget glanced at Astrea, sparing a little nod, communication passing in a look. When you were both quiet, you learned to work in nonverbal tandem, subtle cues and matching thought-patterns established in strategy and sparring sessions. They both knew what they had to do.

The duellists were biding their time. With so little on the clock and the possibility of a fickle end, Astrea focused the electrical buzz of raw magic back towards the Vipers in a balm of healing, reinvigorating the pair and removing most of the duel's accumulated damage with little more than a single incantation. Even the crackling migration of the transferred thundercloud could not shake her calm, so unwilling she was to give up her throne of impassivity in the face of an imminent finish.

Though her partner continued to add to the (likely slippery) growing pool of water upon their side of the piste, they were far from incapacitated. Keeping most of her attention upon their opponents for fear of inevitable unpredictability, Astrea caught Bridget's clever gaze with knowing acknowledgement, an impromptu plan tugging at their odds. They, both fluent in the art of silence and equally well-versed in wordlessly trusted strategical might, were to accomplish only the soundest culmination of all their months of training.
