It was almost the time when sun would go down nad give it's place to the one that's full of secrets, to the moon. Menia was sitting under the tree on the shore of the Great Lake. She brought some books, parchment, quill and ink to try to do some assignments, to try to focus on her studies. The sound of the water, the zephyr and overall, the sound of the nature gave unexplicable feeling to Menia's soul, to her mind and to her heart. She just closed her book after some minutes. It was not the time to do any assignment. It was the time that she had to enjoy the view in frotn of her, the sounds that reached to her ears, the scent that was so delicate and the atmosphere by which she was surrounded. Few minutes later it was already dawn. The sky had a very pretty color at that moment. Menia was amazed by the view: The dawn, the color of the sky and the lake, which was so peaceful. On her right side there was a brown cream bird on the tree, standing to the closest point of tree reachable to the ground. It was not just making noises, it was singing, and it was singing beautifully. Menia looked at the direction of the song and saw the little bird. It was a nightingale. That was all Menia needed at that moment. Nature, peace, beauty and happiness.

Meeting up with @Menia Eve Calin

He was becoming quite accustomed to his wizarding camera. He knew the basics of photography from his Aunt Maggie's boyfriend/fiance and had taken to lots of research from various books about the topic and asked lots of questions from Caretaker Greer who used to be a photographer herself.

He was headed to the Great Lake that morning in hopes to capture some shots of Herman, the giant squid that lived within its waters. Would he be lucky? Most likely not. Herman seemed to be so illusive that he was practically a myth to some students although Simon knew him to be quite real. Being scooped up into his tentacles during a broom race would do that to you.

He saw a girl up ahead and was going to ask if she had seen any sight of him but saw she was reading. Reading was often an activity that one wanted to focus on and required some thought for comprehension so he remained polite and approached the lake's edge quite quietly.

Almost to her, she closed the book and began to look around at her surroundings. It seemed she was appreciating the splendor that the Scottish Highlands held before them that evening and it made Simon smile. Sometimes others were so wrapped up in themselves that they didn't see what was around them and it seemed this girl was appreciate of the beauty of nature around her. Simon loved it as well and didn't get to appreciate it as much as he'd like - being a dhampir and avoiding harsh sun most of the time.

"I've heard nightingales have an astonishingly rich repertoire and are able to produce over 1000 different sounds," he spoke in a whisper, now at the girl's side.

While Menia was enjoying the nature someone came up to her and whispered "I've heard nightingales have an astonishingly rich repertoire and are able to produce over 1000 different sounds''. Menia heard the whisper from her left side, she turned towards the whisper and saw this dark haired, tall boy standing next to her. How many times Menia had seen this boy and how many times she tried to talk to him. And now he was standing next to her. From his words Menia understood that the boy had been watching her for a while, otherwise how he would know that Menia was so fascinated by the bird. Menia looked in his eyes, then tried to speak, but she was a little bit shy at first, so the first attempt of speaking to him was futile. Then she again turned her face towards the lake and tried to speak one more time. "Were you.. Were you watching me?''- she asked in a very low voice, not showing any emotion on her face, though she was quite happy inside and looking anywhere but to the boy.For Menia, it was much more easier to talk to someone without looking at them. Then after asking the question, Menia felt guilty, she realized that she sounded very cold and it seemed like as if she was blaming the boy for nothing. "I'm sorry, it's just... Sorry for the tone of my voice." - said Menia now looking at him.

"Well, sort of," he admitted hesitantly. He wasn't sure if she was upset by it and he certainly didn't want her to be. "I was coming to the lake to see if I could get a photo of Herman, the giant squid," and he showed his wizarding camera as if he needed some sort of proof. "You were reading so I was trying to be quiet so not to disturb you, and then I saw you become interested in something and was curious as to what it was. Birds are pretty amazing. Think about it....flying without a broom. I think if I could become an animagus, some sort of bird of flight would be something amazing."

Hopefully she wasn't bothered by him because he was talking quite a lot. "I'm Simon," he said as he tested the waters to see how she felt and flashed her a friendly smile. "Simon Kincaid, one of those super social Hufflepuffs of the school. Always been a pretty talkative person. My Aunt Maggie says I would go no more than fifteen seconds sometimes without talking when I was even three years old. She's gotten quite used to it now. Probably blocks me out half of the time, but I won't hold it against her. "

Menia once again looked at the boy while he was talking. Then he introduced himself. The Hufflepuff boy was quite talkative which Menia liked, though she is not one of those really talkative people. She prefers listening over talking. "I am Menia Calin, a first year Ravenclaw."- Menia introduced herself to the boy and gave him a friendly smile. "I am not much of a talkative person. I prefer listening to what others say not only about themselves, but about everything, rather than talking. That's why people sometimes think that either I am mean or shy. But to be honest I am neither of them." - Menia finsihed her speech and again turned her face towards the lake and continued appreciating the beauty that the nature gave to them, something that not everyone notices. The birds were flying so high above and Menia suddenly started thinking about what Simon said. Indeed, it is something amazing to fly without a broom. Then she spoke again "You know, I think that birds are the symbol of freedom. I mean, they can fly wherever they want to, they just can soar and enjoy the freedom naturally given to them."I would give so much to be a bird for just an hour or two. It's a pity, that wizards cannot choose their animagus form. But on the other hand, I think that the form of one's animagus, represents their personality."

Talking with @Menia Eve Calin

"Pleasure to meet you Menia Calin," he repeated the name. The first name was one he hadn't heard before but that wasn't uncommon here. Back in London his class had been full of boys named Jack, Oliver, Dylan, Harry, and so forth and the girls were Charlotte, Olivia, Emily, Lily, Isabelle. Very common names. However, since attending Hogwarts he had met some students with the most unusual and most beautiful names: AngelFyre, Menia, Axyen.

"Awhile back ago I had a conversation with another on what our spirit animals would be. She perfectly chose a wolf and I chose a dove. I think it was the right choice. If one were able, I could see me choosing that as my animagus. Think you'll ever plan on getting that ability? I'm a bit envious of it because it's pretty awesome; not one I'm able to achieve, I'm afraid."

The limitations sometimes placed upon him in the wizarding world were frustrating but he didn't dwell on them. Just knowing it existed and that he was able to be included in it in some way was fascinating enough. He loved this world of magic. It had brought him so much wonder as well as so many different new friends he wouldn't have met otherwise.

I actually am intending to become an animagus. I think about it very seriously. Though it is so soon, but in four years or more I may give it a try. In my opinion it is a high quality of a wizard. And also it is one of the best ways of showing the abilities of magic and how wonderful it is."- Menia stopped and there was a dreamy look on her face while she was looking above. Though her face was not expessing anything or it was expressing so many things at the t"ime, but anyone who would look at her would say that her mindand soul are high in the clouds. She was blinking very slowly and every time she blinked the direction into which her eyes were looking changed. What she was thinking about? What kind of a dream was soaring in her mind? These questions were hard enough, that Menia herself could not answer them.

"What about you? Would you like to become an animagus in a couple of years? And would it be okay for you if you became a whole different animal than a dove?"- asked Menia to the tall, dark haired boy next to him.

Simon found it quite awesome that she planned to become an animagus. It was a pretty big feat even for a wizard though but Menia was a Ravenclaw and if anyone could have the intellect and drive to do difficult things it was them. He applauded them for that and found that many of his close friends, including his best friend, were Ravenclaws.

The girl said how wonderful magic was and Simon noticed her focus wasn't really on the bird anymore, nor was it on him. She was looking up to the sky and he wondered what she was thinking about - the clouds? Looking for more birds? Thinking of an animagus form she might take on that held flight? It seemed rude to ask, so he wouldn't.

"Being an animagus sounds pretty cool and I'm envious of those that get it. I wouldn't care if I was a giraffe! How many people can say they can turn into an animal? Sadly, I shall never achieve such a means. That's not in the cards for me. My abilities are quite restricting as a dhampir."

Yes, for maybe perhaps the first time in his lifetime, Simon just came right out with it.

" Two of the main and most common mistakes made by humans are overestimating or underestimating themself. You are the kind of person that does the second one. I have heard that you are one of the excellent students in Hufflepuff. So what I am trying to say is that you should not underestimate yourself before even trying. Who knows? Probably you will become an animagus."
- Menia now was looking straight into his eyes without blinking her eyes. She was talking without taking breath.- " I can see that though you are a dhampir and your abilities are 'quite restricting', but you have the potential of achieving something serious, which is related to magic. They say that werewolves and dhampirs cannot have some abilities like Occlumency or Legilimency and cannot become Animagus, but I think they just haven yet seen a dhampir and a werewolf who has those abilities. Remember that with magic, everything is possible. I know someone who that she would not be able to have the ability of Legilimency as back in her years in the school, she was not a very good student. There were several spells she could hardly cast, but now she has the ability. So never give up. And try before you deny." - Menia finished her speech with these words and while saying them her eyes sparkled and and she giggled for no reason. And it was really weird for Menia herself that she actually was speaking non-stop and really long, as she would often give an answer or a question which was really short.

Liking a new perspective from @Menia Eve Calin

He sort of understood her point but it was quite a long-shot to think he could be the first dhampir to do something when it was pretty much shown that dhampirs couldn't achieve something. Even magic had limitations. Still, kinda a cool thought to think maybe he wasn't as limited.

At least he didn't have his heart set on such a thing anyway and it really wasn't in his plans as he got older. He liked how encouraging Menia was and it reminded him much of his fellow Hufflepuffs.

He looked over to Menia, trying to gather what she might be thinking of but she seemed to be one of those people that maybe perhaps you couldn't figure out what they were thinking about and that was okay. "So tell me, looking back on nearly an entire year of Hogwarts thus far, what would you rate it? Are we a 1 out of 10 school? A nine out of ten school?" He was curious. He figured Ravenclaws would probably rate it pretty highly but it wasn't certain.

It wasn't like you could easily decide your wizarding school anyway since it was all mostly done by location on where you lived, but still. Again, always good to get someone else's perspective.
