General The Hufflepuff Table 2018-2019

Asha listened thoughtfully as everyone spoke. She could almost see a pattern within people in Hufflepuff, like how they were mostly open around their kind, ready to get close to people they were beginning to care about. Although she didn't know what a niffler was, Asha figured that it might be just as cool as a dragon or phoenix. She made a note to look them up later, in the library perhaps. Turning to David, Asha said, "I actually think that everyone was put into their House for a good reason; who knows, maybe we'll end up making a big difference somehow, somewhere, just by being the loyal and hardworking Hufflepuffs we are."

Miko mentioned his dad, or one of them, perhaps, working with dragons. This made Asha consider what wizards actually do after the finish with school. Maybe they cared for magical creatures, like Miko's dad, owned a shop in Diagon Alley, became professors like the one's at Hogwarts, or even something more amazing. Asha knew she had a long way to go before she should think about what she wanted to do, but the thought of having a magical occupation rather than work in an office or something was very interesting to think about.

Facing the girl who said she liked nifflers, Asha said, "While it's great to have friends, you have to be cautious of who you're around, Evelyn. You're a really nice girl, but not everyone means well. I think that you said that you're a muggle-born, and some people around here don't particularly like them." She paused to take a bite of food. "Actually, I consider myself a muggle-born. I'm adopted, and my parents are muggles, and my grandpa is a squib─someone who's a wizard but can't use magic─but he thinks my birth parents were actually wizards, no one's sure."

The boy close by her named Miko cast a light spell, lumos, and Asha gave him a questioning look. "Isn't it light enough already? We're in the Great Hall, not the Forbidden Forest," she joked.

David was surprised when yet another new voice entered the fray, this one of a boy that introduced himself as Miko. The conversation was growing and David hadn't felt this crowded in a long while. What had started as a 1 on 1 conversation had become a thriving group.

After Miko introduced himself, David realized he hadn't caught the new girl's name. Had she introduced herself? She seemed to speak openly with Evie, so maybe those two already knew each other? It could be that this other girl was just open with everyone. Hogwarts was home to all sorts of people.

Should he ask her to introduce herself? Excuse me, but what is your name? No. That would probably come off as super rude, like shewas some kind of intruder on a private conversation. The conversation clearly wasn't too private and he had only just met Evie. David's best bet was to wait for it to come up naturally.

At the mention of nifflers, David recalled when he had perused his book over magical creatures before, but nifflers were an animal he was less familiar with. From what he could remember, they were black, platypus, mole things that acted like crows. David personally couldnt't see the appeal but to each their own.

"I'm just hoping I can make it through this year unscathed. I know I have to work really hard to catch up to everyone else since I don't know much about magic," he said. Hufflepuffs were hard workers, so that's what he was going to do. Strangely enough, he felt a twinge of guilt as he finished speaking. It was as if he had lied to them somehow. Everything he had said was accurate, right?

Once again, the subject of being muggle-born had come up. Some people liked to bully people that didn't come from magical parents and called them demeaning names and said they were lesser. It didn't make much sense. If a muggle-born witch or wizard married another muggle-born wotch or wizard and they had a kid, then that kid would be pureblood, right? Some kids seemed really proud of their pureblood status, but it dodn't really seem all that rare or special. David figured that maybe he didn't have all the details, but he couldn't imagine a situation where bullying a kid over their parents was sensible or right.

Miko's statements about what his fathers did set David's mind off on a tangent. Running a dragon daycare? Quidditch seeker? He knew Quidditch was a sport but had never read up on the rules or seen it in action.

"What kinds of jobs are there for witches and wizards to do?" It was a question he hadnt gocen much consideration. Clearly they could be professors, quidditch players, and explorers, but there had to be way more than that. "Are there, like, magical accountants or something? Or maybe a magical police officer?" A magical accountant seemed like the perfect mundane job for him.

Ellara approached the Hufflepuff table for the first time, a nervous smile on her face, as she walked over to join the already-large crowd of students. She didn't want to be rude and interrupt their conversations, but at the same time, it'd be kind of nice to learn the names of the kids that she'd be spending the next few years of her life with. Being alone would be dreadfully boring, and from what she'd discovered from her limited reading of the textbooks, they were naturally sociable people! She definitely fell under that category.

Brushing a strand of hair behind her ear, she lingered to the side for a moment, before finally settling down at an empty seat that was nearest where the others were talking about different conversation. She immediately felt herself relax. This was it! She really was a witch, and she belonged in a house with other witches and wizards! Soon enough, she'd be attending classes, learning spells, playing that crazy Quidditch game, and joining just about every single club she could finally join if she found the time to join it!

She overheard the boy's final question, something to do with magical jobs, and figured that was a perfectly good conversation starter. "Sorry if I'm interrupting, but do you mind if I join you guys?" She still looked a bit frazzled after finishing her Sorting Ceremony. "I'm sorry to say I don't know a lot about magical jobs, but I'm pretty sure one of the History of Magic books mentioned there are certain jobs like police called Aurors - I think that name's right - in the Ministry of Magic? No idea about accounting, though!"

She worried that she was probably interrupting a conversation in a point that she shouldn't be interrupting, but the harm was already done now! "I'm Ellara, by the way, and I totally just rudely interrupted your conversation..." She bit her lip, a sorry expression on her face, as she turned to see if the boy was annoyed with her or not.

REID fixed his cardigan as he stepped into the Great Hall, brushing some of the grass that stained his uniform. He was trying to avoid being questioned by a Professor about how haphazard his uniform was and if it was the result of him being pushed around. It was, in fact, a result of him simply roughhousing with the others in the grounds and his slacks suffered the price. All he wanted was some food before he decided to go back to the dormitory to clean up, at least he didn't smell bad.

ALL that became of it was a lingering scent of the earth and grass, but someone could easily think ill of it. He made little notice of himself, his feet didn't take him anywhere specific since he was just looking for a space to squeeze himself between. Making sure he wasn't barging in, he slipped himself into an empty spot and caught as much as he could of the conversation. Reid wasn't ready to jump in yet, but he was curious about what the rest were talking about.

IT seemed to be about jobs, something he learned at the end of his first year and more so near the start of this year. Did some of these new faces have relatives in the Ministry? He would be surely curious of that. Though what burned in his mind was mainly the buzz of the Quidditch World Cup, he only got so much of the news from issues of the Daily Prophet. It was a game he came to love just as much as he loved football, so this year was a big deal for him.

IT happened only every four years from what he was briefly told, so he wouldn't be able to tune into another World Cup until his sixth year. Perhaps he'd find someone on the table to talk to about it, for now, he brushed the tangent off since it had nothing to do with what was being discussed. Reid picked up some food from in front of him, tuning in vaguely as he preoccupied himself with eating. Talking could come later, for now, he was starving and the cuts of meat made him hungry and the talk of jobs only made it worse.

✣ The First Meal ✣

The young girl shuffles over to the Hufflepuff Table, the corners of her lips lifting up in a coy smile. She thought of barging in to make conversation, but it didn't exactly seem like a good idea; not when everyone else was already engaged in their own conversations. Besides, Dinara felt confident that she could meet an appropriate group of friends after she had settled in; being a Muggleborn wasn't easy. She had yet to acclimatise to all the new and unfamiliar things that were made possible by magic, and Dinara figured she had to first know her environment before she could start getting to know the people.

Her small frame made it easy for her to squeeze into a small space at the table. She found herself seated next to a rather tall (then again, everyone appeared tall to Dinara) boy with messy brown hair. It gave Dinara some small comfort to know that even in the wizarding world, there were people like her; kindred spirits who couldn't be bothered to fix their hair. The difference lay with their eye colour -- Whilst Dinara's eyes were a warm shade of brown, the boy's was of a piercing green colour.

He appeared to be chowing down on the various platters that were laid out in front of them. Attempting to follow suit, Dinara reached out her small arms as she tried to help herself to a large serving of treacle pudding. Sure, desserts were never meant to be eaten first, but rules were also made to be broken; especially when there wasn't anyone watching her. However, Dinara's small frame seemed to be more of a hindrance than a help in this situation, as she sheepishly sat back down after unsuccessfully trying to reach for the dessert plate that was positioned on the other end of the long table.

In an attempt to escape the rather awkward situation, Dinara tried to draw attention away from her failed attempt at grabbing some food by turning to speak to the brown-haired boy beside her. "Hey! This is alot of food ain't it? I don't think I've seen sucha feast in my life!' Her voice rang out clearly; her chipper tone cutting through all the other low murmurs of the Great Hall. Dinara bobbed enthusiastically as she spoke, her liveliness evident from her excitable gestures and her animated facial expressions.

Interacting with @Dinara Lucey and whoever else.

REID was rather preoccupied with eating his food, unconsciously making way for anyone who might have sat beside him if need be. It wasn't a terribly cramped table, but neither did it have the best elbow room. He ate on though, trying not to bother his housemates from their talks and their meals. His hands became a messy canvas of meat pieces, yet managed to still eat with his mouth closed. Table manners didn't fully escape him and he was sure his mum would tell him off for being indecent, yet he lacked poise.

HE was a little hunched, almost reclused in comparison to the others around him. From the corner of his eye, he could tell that someone was out to snag a piece off of the dessert platter. Though his eyes were constantly locking onto one of the candles across the hall, interested in the shortness of it. The devil was in the details and Reid took notice, the ambiance was like no other. There was never a day where he found himself bored with looking around the hall, the smallest grooves in the wall or the way the trusses seemed against the light.

THE Hufflepuff wasn't an architecture buff, but he was young boy whose eyes wandered as much as his thoughts. But once again, his attention would snap to the hand that seemed to be reaching for the plate, eventually, it caused him to reach over once the hand disappeared. Just as he was about to grab it to help, the girl's lively voice cut him off midway and he pulled his hand back. For someone her size, she had the voice of a titan and he was sure that the whole hall could hear it.

REGARDLESS of how loud she was, he didn't seem to notice or care one bit. Although, she didn't seem like someone he met last year, perhaps a new student? Nevertheless, Reid mirrored her jovial tone and instantly replied, "Isn't it? You should see the end of the year, Christmas even." He had pocketed the food to one side of his mouth, causing his closed lip smile to be a little skewed.

ONCE he was free to talk, he remembered that she had been reaching unsuccessfully for the plate and took the courtesy in grabbing it for her. His cleaner hand wrapped around the cold edge and gave it a slight tug. "Here, thought I saw your hand coming for it a few seconds ago." Reid sounded slightly amused, but he meant it as a small jest. It was pulled closer to her so that she could choose what she might want. With her seemingly open invitation to talk, he found himself playing on that as he ripped a slice of bread in two. "I'm uh - I'm Reid by the way."

The Great Hall was softly illuminated by the gentle glow of the floating candles. Dinara suddenly realised how impractical her oversized robes were after scuffing her sleeve on various food items -- there was probably a mini feast on her sleeve right there and then!

She cast a curious glance at the boy beside her. For someone his size, he sure could eat! Dinara made sure to keep her posture straight and she puffed out her chest; she couldn't make it known that she was intimidated by the crowd, if even slightly.
"Isn't it? You should see the end of the year, Christmas even."
Her eyes lit up, her eyes crinkling up into a smiley, crescent shape. She flashed a bright smiled at the youth, throwing her hands up in excitement. Dinara was glad to have met someone who finally seemed open to conversation; the other students that she's met were courteous, at most. She let out a peal of laughter, delighted to think of the festivities that lie ahead. December is indeed her favourite month, with the cold weather and all the holiday goodies that come with.

"It gets BETTER? I'm SO excited! How can that even be possible?"

Dinara let out another giggle of excitement. The girl was a blur of movement, she could never just sit still and live with it. She bounced around in her seat, still eyeing the dessert platter rather wistfully. Sure, Dinara could have lived with having meats and potatoes, but how many more opportunities could she get to eat and live however she wanted without her mother nagging at her? Besides, the platter glittered with pastries and confectionaries of a beautiful blend of colours...
"Here, thought I saw your hand coming for it a few seconds ago."
The boy's voice cut through Dinara's thoughts, and she let out a small squeal of joy as she rapidly spooned large servings of treacle pudding onto her plate. His voice carried a pleasant, if not slightly teasing lilt. In return, Dinara wrinkled her nose back at him. "Thanks a lot. Being this small can come with it's disadvantages at times, y'know?" Her eyes squinted in mock exasperation, but that expression quickly broke after she broke out in laughter once again. Dinara never could keep a straight face very well.

His self-introduction seemed to stem from a place of friendliness, and Dinara was more than happy to return this. "Nice to meet ya Reid! I'm Dinara. Dinara Lucey. You can call me anything you want!" She stuck her hand out enthusiastically, completely oblivious of the fact that most people probably wouldn't want to shake the hand of someone who'd just made a large mess after devouring half the dessert plate.

@Dinara Lucey and Co.
THE plate seemed to go as barren as a wasteland once it reached the young girl, so she did want the desserts. It made him wish for some too, but he would wait till the next plates came. But all together, Dinara caught him off guard with her bubbly personality, she reminded him of Rosie Parker but with more energy to boot. None of that was bad, he found Hufflepuffs good company and the brown-haired girl was no exception to this.

SO far, she seemed to be the loudest of the bunch and it made him happy to hear that there were a lot more of the jovial 'Puffs than the sullen ones. He himself often fell on the latter category, but that was simply because of the events the last year. Plus the plethora of students he had met at Hogwarts so far didn't always seem so open to chat like the girl seemed to be, that was nice on its own. He had been picking at his food like a vulture and also acquired quite a gruesome scene on his fingers.

BUT nevertheless, he didn't hesitate to give her extended offer a firm handshake. Reid barely realized that he had contributed to the mess on her hands and stifled his laughter. "Dinara Lucey. Dinara, that's a really cool name. Kovacs is my surname, Reid Kovacs." he beamed, breaking the greeting. Without care, Reid wiped his hands on his robes, leaving small stray streaks of debris along his black wear. The young boy then amusingly pointed at her hand, "Best to wash up those hands after this though, everything tends to stick to you afterwards."

HE would know, he ended up having scarf yarn stuck to his sugar-coated digits last year. It felt terribly uncomfortable and almost made another student feel the same when he shook their hand. Reid went back to pulling his food apart and even decided to take a bite into it. "Are you new by the way? I mean, are you new to Hogwarts. I can't say I have the best memory, but I thought I would recognize a voice when I hear one."

HE tended to commit the louder and more outspoken people to memory because they made an impression, so she would have been easy. Reid was always curious about the new students, what did they think? Did they like the magical school? Did they adjust to it quicker than he did himself?

The youngin scoffed down the last of the dessert platter. Perhaps someone who was more insightful or more considerate would've been more modest in helping themselves to the desserts like that, but Dinara didn't stop to think so deeply into things. Not that the girl was particularly ill-mannered or anything, she just didn't think as much as someone who was more mature would; after all, she had plenty of time to live as a kid before she had to grow up.

She was delighted to have her outstretched hand met with a firm handshake, blissfully ignorant of how disgusting the mixture on her hands had gotten -- what with the mess of caramel and powdered sugar from her own gluttony along with the oil and gravy from Reid's.

"Dinara Lucey. Dinara, that's a really cool name. Kovacs is my surname, Reid Kovacs."
At this, Dinara nodded enthusiastically. A new, cool friend! What great fun! Now, she may not know the boy very well yet (or at all, really, considering they just met) but in Dinara's books, anyone who's willing to help her and doesn't offend her terribly is a good cookie. A great cookie, in fact. The girl hardly realised that he had seemingly stopped himself from laughing -- picking up on these small, subtle cues weren't exactly Dinara's strong suit, especially not in a crowded hall of people with platters of delicacies laid out in front of her. "Reid! That's a really, really cool name! Can I call you Reeko? That sounds preeetty cute." She tilted her head thoughtfully, her eyes gleaming with pride. Who else would've thought of such a great nickname?

"Best to wash up those hands after this though, everything tends to stick to you afterwards."

Upon hearing the boy's words, Dinara instinctively looked down at her hands. Well, at least what's left of her hands. She wrinkled her nose, looking around for someplace to wipe her hands. Realising that the only available fabric was her robe, she reluctantly followed suit and wiped her hands on a less visible portion of her robes, hoping that it didn't leave too obvious of a mark on her robes.
"Are you new by the way? I mean, are you new to Hogwarts. I can't say I have the best memory, but I thought I would recognize a voice when I hear one."
Her head tilted and she sat up energetically, nodding furiously. The head of curls that had been sitting rather tamely at her shoulders suddenly sprung up in a blur of motion. Dinara's smiled widened even further -- something that didn't seem possible at all.

"Heck yeah I am! I'm so excited to be here! Have you been here long? All this is so new to me, I haven't even seen magic before this! I can't wait to learn some new spells and do some cool stuff myself.'

Dinara exhaled rather dreamily, her eyes glazing over as she fantasised about all the magical things she could do in future. Perhaps she could even show her parents what she's learned!

Sitting at the grand table in that grand hall was a dream come true. There were people in different robes. Some colored some had hats. I took a quick peek to see who was at the hufflepuff table. A girl with shaggy hair was there. A boy about her age looked nice. All the people their looked so prepared. I took a peek at the older kids. Wow they looked wise. I sure hoped to be one of the some day.
