The student who had just entered, a first-year Slytherin she vaguely recognised but had no real acquaintance with - yet - stood out in the ballroom like a living witch amongst hundreds of ghosts.
The huge room had been decorated very... well, Halloween-y, Ember thought. Little witches swooped around below the ceiling and two of them had already touched her, with a frighteningly hard tap on the head which had surprised the young witch. Food was designed to look like ghosts, blood, eyeballs, severed body parts... there was a great amount of white spider webs, coloured red by the "blood" apparently leaking out of the wall...
and then there was this guy. In a fluffy, colourful Eeyore onesie. Ember suddenly felt a desperate urge to laugh out loud. Not a mocking laugh, as you might have expected, a laugh at this idea, something that was way less stereotypical then hers. [See my post above.] She sidled over towards the other student, slightly smiling. "Hi", she said, the satin mask sticking uncomfortably to her face. "I really like your hoodie. What's your name? I'm Ember, Ember Jones..." Her voice trailed off. She always talked too much. Way too much. And she could have talked on forever now, but... what if he wouldn't like it? Like most people she met? What if he just gave her a pointed look and walked away? She bit her lip, then, remembering the Slytherin guy was still standing there, smiled nervously.

Don't you dare mess with me!

Unlike the previous Oktoberfest event she attended, Tina wore a Belle costume as she arrived at the ball. She didn't care if people thought the movie that her dress referred to was childish. She admired Belle for staying true to her values despite the greater opposition of the crowd. One day, she hoped to be able to do the same. For now, she was going to pretend to be like Belle.

Scanning the crowd, her eyes caught sight of Elijah. She smiled as she thought about how resourceful he was to wear the same costume he had before. She made a mental note to re-wear her next year's Halloween costume. As she continued to watch him, she wondered if she should approach him. She wasn't planning on starting a long conversation, but she felt she should honor the costume by doing something Belle would do. Belle was friendly, even though she was still isolated.

With long strides, Tina makes it over to Elijah only to find another person talking to him. She didn't want to intrude, so she stood a few inches away and observed the decorated walls. It's perfection only seemed to indicate the hard work put into the making of the party.

Nico looked up at the girl when she asked if this was her first party. It was. It was abit scary and her shark onesie was her armor. 'Yes.. It is, haha.' Rubbing her hand over her wrist she took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down.

With a chuckle she tried to hide the fact that she was indeed very... very nervous. Her cheeks flushed red when the girl complimented her outfit. Covering her mouth she looked back at the girl. 'T-Thank you. It's my favorite onesie.' She said with a shy but genuine smile. It felt nice to hear someone compliment her hard work. Or something she's proud of. Definitley since it's a shark. She loved sharks and somewhere... aspired to be one, someday.

The girl introduced herself by giving her name: Serena. What a lovely name. It had a nice ring to it. Wait... did that mean... Serena might want to be friends with her? Nico smiled warmly and put down her shark hood, brushing her hair out of her face abit. 'My name is.. Nico. Nice to meet you, Serena.' She wasn't sure if this would work out... Maybe she saw it wrong and Serena didn't really like her. Nico didn't flinch and held her head up, hoping for the best.

You're gonna need a bigger boat

Alexx had never been one for parties, so it was just a coincidence that she happened to appear at this one. Making an appearance was something that was rare for her, as she was typically found in the common room, reading or just contemplating. She usually only attended events with prior knowledge that someone she knew would be there. But in this particular case, however, she had gotten up and made the executive decision to remove herself from her typical surroundings and get adventurous. This spark inside her was new, no doubt. Was she just to disregard this feeling, or was she to take full advantage of it? What a hard decision to make on such a whim.

And ah, yes. Parties. Alexx had done her makeup for this particular party, dressing as a scarecrow. They were a hub, a sort of hotspot for all the commotion that the school could conjure. When you see one another every day, you are bound to get sick of being together. Alexx could not say that she was, in fact, sick of any faces in particular, but she had grown bored of the same vanilla flavor that she tasted every day. Her life, to say the least, was uneventful. This may have been the cause of the sudden feeling. She felt trapped in an endless loop. Her schedule didn't change, her friends didn't change, nothing changed. The only thing that seemed to move was her money, as she did accumulate a good amount of that over time. And while the change in money was the most spectacular feeling in the world, what she wanted more than anything was an event. It did not satisfy her need for adventure and experiences.

Her eyes scanned the room for a victim, someone to get caught in her trap of innocent mayhem. It was harmless; no one would get hurt. She did have to keep her appearances clean, after all. It would only be fun, she could claim. This was a mixing pot of students, and those involved would see the events that Alexx brought. It was just a matter of finding someone who she could share the same mindset with, obviously. And there weren't many people she did know. It felt as though only first years came to these events anymore; though she did note a few second years. Why was this? Why did they suddenly stop making appearances at such events? Did they find it lame? Alexx never could answer these questions. There were plenty of reasons as to why she did not. But nevertheless, it did not stop her from wondering what it was with the other students that caused them to distance themselves from events. But she wasn't complaining, more people here meant more to scout out. It was simple, which gave her the upper hand, she decided.

Serena smiled a little and nodded. It was sweet, the girl was still innocent enough to think that Hogwarts was a safe and happy place. Serena knew better... She wished she did not but time and time again, she was being proved right. This school was not safe as she once believed it was. But she did not want to scare the first year. Hopefully, this time nothing would go wrong... "What house are you in?" She asked, wondering if this was a fellow Hufflepuff. It was harder to identify students without their school uniforms.

"Are you happy to be here?" Serena asked her suddenly, wondering if she was actually excited about school. The second year had previously loved being here, she had been so happy here. However, since everything had happened... she was not so sure anymore. She was trying to enjoy it here but she was not sure she actually liked it. But her friends were here and here, she could learn how to protect those friends better. Serena missed the days were she was happy to be in Hogwarts... Perhaps through this girl, she would remember those days.

The Indian girl pondered for a moment. She did not have an onesie in her wardrobe but she wondered if her mother would let her get one. They looked awfully comfortable and rather cute. "I wish I had one..." The Hufflepuff girl said as she took a bite out of her cupcake. She was forced to wear fancy dresses when she was back home as her mother was constantly taking her around the place to go to some boring party or family gathering. They had so many relatives that she had to meet over the summer holidays. It felt like every day was dinner out or lunch at someone's house. It was tiresome. She was incredibly lazy and enjoyed just spending the whole day in bed, if she could. "Do you have many of them?" Serena asked her, wondering if she had a lot as she said 'favourite', not 'only'.

The girl put down her hood to expose her beautiful red hair. Serena could not help but smile a little as she watched the girl brushing hair out of her face that was slightly red too. It was rather adorable. "Nice to meet you too!" Serena replied politely as she finished off the cupcake, "Have you tried any of the  other food here? The cupcakes are really nice." She compliment as she brushed her hands a little, crumpling up the cupcake case in her hand to chuck later. She hid her hands behind her cloak again so that they were hidden.

Rosie was very late, as usual.

She wasn't sure how she always so late to important events, but she managed. She was never late to classes, or to meetings with her friends. But balls? Prefect meetings? Literally anything important? Always late. Literally always. But she had a valid reason this time! And it was because of her costume.

It was way too big for her.

Rosie had decided she wanted to be Pikachu for Halloween. What had caused her to come to this conclusion, one might ask? Nobody knew. She didn't know. She just decided that it would be a great idea. That was, until she actually got the costume. It was a size too big. She had to hike up the pants so that they wouldn't go past her feet, her hood covered practically her entire face, and the sleeves were huge and baggy. She looked like a fool.

She decided to put on a belt over her costume and just live with the rest of it. Rosie made her way to the ballroom, rolling up her sleeves a bit. Her curly hair poked out the sides of her hood, and it was unbearably hot under the yellow sleeves. But she'd deal with it. It was for the look. Besides, she looked cute! Onesies made anyone look cute, and it was just a fact.

Everyone was basically wearing a onesie, very few people had wanted an actual costume it seemed. And Rosie couldn't blame them, cause neither did she. She was walking into the ballroom in something she'd wear to bed. She pulled down her hood to look at who was there. There were quite the few unfamiliar faces, but she did recognize a few people. Alexx, who she had seen at Clary's funeral. Serena, her slowly fading crush who was still beautiful as always, and Elijah, a sweet boy Rosie had met just that year.

She saw Elijah talking to someone new. She didn't really wanna introduce herself, again. So Rosie just walked past him and smiled at him when she did, so she ended up going up to Alexx. She tapped her shoulder and smiled. "Hey! I really like your costume." Rosie said cheerfully. "I'm Rosie, I kinda saw you at the funeral over the summer. So you're kinda familiar, but not entirely. Anyway. Hi!" She waved her floppy sleeve, grinning.

Ellara dressed as a witch. Ironic, right? She'd thought the outfit choice suitable when she'd first heard preparations for the ball were being made. She'd seen an opportunity and she'd taken it, though she hoped she didn't offend anyone from some of the higher-up wizarding families. The young first year was clad in a simple black dress, with lace sleeves reaching down to the cuffs of her wrists. She wore a navy cloak over the dress and even carried around a small jack-o-lantern "purse" with herself. The concept wasn't perfect, really, but it worked for such short notice!

The masquerade - were they calling it that? It seemed fitting with all of the costumes- already seemed to be in full swing, as she made her way into the ballroom. The First Year Hufflepuff was notorious for getting lost at the worst of times! She made her way into the area, pausing for a moment to gaze up in awe at the magical decor. That was one good thing she had to admit about Hogwarts... they always knew how to set the mood. While the lighting was ambient, she decided there was a perfect amount of gore for the night of Halloween, though the lingering ghosts did freak her out just a tad bit.

Scanning the room for familiar faces, Ellara was in awe of some of the more elaborate costumes she spotted. Granted, most of the students present were wearing onesies... but there were a few creative ones in there! She spotted a girl in what looked like a goddess costume, and another that appeared to be Nike. Maybe she'd missed out on the Greek theme memo?

Though plenty of the faces in the crowd were present, she didn't really feel close enough to approach anyone in conversation, with the exception of the Head of the Theater Club, who was off at one of the tables eating a cupcake! Ellara walked over to join her, grabbing a pumpkin pasty on the way, before settling down. "Hey, Sonya! Loose any slippers yet?"
she teased.

Assuming @Elijah Huang won't react anymore... I'm still in the same position though, interaction with you is still possible.
Ember suddenly had the notion of another person looking at her while she was waiting for Elijah to answer. She spinned round just in time to see a red-haired girl turn away to admire the decorated walls. She immediately recognised the young student from various meetings - in the Ravenclaw welcoming tour, during a certain Transfiguration lesson... Tina was her name, she recalled, Tina... Addengtom? Something like it. She was better with faces than with names.
Ember had quite liked her, one of the reasons why she approached now.
"Hi, Tina" she said with a warm smile. "How's it going? Are you enjoying the ball?"
As she turned around, Ember couldn't help but feel a little self-conscious. A Belle masquerade. A costume from a film. Of course. She mentally face-palmed. Why hadn't she thought of that? She would have arrived as some really cool character, maybe from an eighties film, or even as one of her favourite celebrities. She could actually have dressed up as Joan Jett. Or she could have missed that chance, being under the impression that Hallowe'en was supposed to be spooky. Nevertheless, she quickly reminded herself, she had really elaborated on her Dark witch costume. Please look at my first post in this thread if you want more details!
She pushed away the anxious feeling and smiled at Tina again - a sight that must have been looking rather queer, regarding the costume she was wearing.

Tina looked to her left and right, unsure if Ember was talking to her. She noticed her around Hogwarts a lot lately and even met her a few times, but she didn't think she would remember her name. Tina knew her own looks were memorable, but her name was common and overused. She felt it could be compared to a speck of sand in the desert's floor.  She answers, "I think that's me?"

She felt like running away after saying that. What kind of person is unsure of their own name? She was so unprepared for a conversation with an unexpected person that she couldn't speak properly. Why did she even come to the party? Quickly changing the subject, she says, "You're Ember Jones, right? Your last name reminds me of Indiana Jones."

After she made her comment, she realized she may be a pureblood or wizard born who might not understand her reference. Every time she spoke she was digging herself into a deeper hole. Deciding to just answer her other questions normally, she says, "I'm good. The ball is doing well."

She meant the ball was good and I'm doing well. Hoping that Ember wouldn't notice her mix up her words, she looked at her outfit, admiring the details of of her Dark Witch attire. It was ironic to dress up as a witch when you are a witch, but she loved it anyway.

Tina's eyes were flickering from left to right, she seemed unsure of something. Ember tried to give her an assuring smile, but her own thoughts clouded with worries. What if she was thinking about how to best escape from her? She could sometimes be a little over-enthusiastic, but she didn't think she had done it again this time. Luckily, Tina stayed instead of fleeing towards the other side of the room. "I think that's me", she said in a small voice. Ember smiled. Probably she was just shy. No need to worry.
When Tina said her last name reminded her of Indiana Jones, Ember laughed heartily. "I'm a bit like him, I suppose!", she grinned. "Curious and everything..."
I think Indiana Jones is some kind of explorer, right? Correct me if I'm wrong
Then, she listened as her fellow Ravenclaw spoke up again. "I'm good. The ball is doing well." Ember noted the small mix-up, but decided not to say anything. Luckily today wasn't that kind of day, but she could also be extremely shy and knew how embarassing it felt.
Tina seemed to like her costume, she realized, an intense wave of gratitude washing through her as she did so. "Cool! I'm also fine.", she said, desperate to keep up the conversation. "Um... I really like your costume. Of course, electricity and stuff doesn't work here..." She could have slapped herself; everyone knew that! She felt like a total idiot. "Well, but at home I watched the film about a dozen times. What's your favourite scene?", she finished, her eyes wide with nervosity.
