Finished Cruelty Does Not Equal Kindness Detention

Attire: Usual weekend kit: Slytherin pride, kilt, no shoes, wolf fang necklace, feathers in his braid.

THAMP! THAMP! THAMP! THAMP!

Colin's bare feet patted softly on the flagstones and hard wood of the castle's floors as they led him up from the courtyard, where he returned from his morning run, and all the way up the many flaights of stairs and corridors until, at last, he found the classroom that Clair has designated for the detention of two birbs and one snek. She's sent an owl explaining everything, but honestly, Colin only skimmed its contents! The parchment smelled faintly of Clair.

Colin yipped as he rounded the corridor heading towards the classroom! It was 8:50. If he knew Clair at all, he knew his beloved Ravenclaw would have arrived early to set everything up! As he jogged along the corridor, he wondered what she would have them do! Well, she was a Ravenclaw, so it would probably involve writing in some way. Maybe lines? No. Not creative enough. Maybe a poster like last year? That was really creative, and Colin enjoyed that detention immensely! Maybe --- wait. No. Colin laughed merrily! He had it! He was certain she'd have them write Essays. Colin well knew what a Clair Fernandez Lecture was like, and it seemed to Colin she might just do that.

"Huh!" he said under his breath as he neared the door; "That's just like homework! I ought to be able to bang out an essay real quick! Even the two Ravenclowns ought to be able to do that quick enough! Maybe afterwards, me and Clair can go out on the grounds? Yeah --- that would be brilliant!"

BANG!!

Colin heaved the door open at top speed and skidded to a halt in the center of the stone floored classroom. "Blimey, Clair! I think this is the same classroom Salwis had me and Quinn doing our detentions in last year! That one was fun! I stall have it in me dorm!" He let out a puff of breath as he walked up along the very broad center aisle. He smiled at Clair, practically vibrating with happiness as he saw her sitting at the desk up at the front of the room.

Colin stopped. His brows furrowed slightly. Clair was sitting at one desk. And there were two desks pushed side by side in the middle of the room. Colin looked around. All the other desks were stacked against the walls. Colin looked back up at Clair. He was used to her blank stares. Or rather --- Colin knew well that when Clair was giving someone (often himself!) a blank stare, her mind was awhirl with plans, putting together killer arguments that he could never hope to defend against, or putting the finishing touches on the two or three word rebuttal that would utter dash his puerile reasoning into tiny bits!

Colin sighed. He loved Clair! Still, the whole two desk thing seemed pretty sketch to the Slytherin. For a brief moment, he wondered if he would be let off! Maybe once the two shrieking birdbrains got here, she'd dismiss him! There were only two desks after all, right? But no, that was unlikely to happen. He smirked in resignation as the two Ravenclaw girls entered the classroom. Clair surely had a plan, and if that plan invovled three kids and two desks, then she would have had it all worked out already!

"Wands here, please," she said. Colin's eyebrows flew up! That he wasn't expecting! He would be defenseless! He was just glad that neither of his inmates knew how ticklish he was. That could be problematic. He found it so very hard to put his hawthorn wood and unicorn hair down on the desk. Every time he lowered his hand, it wouldn't open! He'd almost rather poke his right eye out! "Take it," he mouthed to the Prefect. He'd put it in her hands. Colin winced as the wood at last softly clacked against the desk top.

And then Clair explained the task! Colin's eyes lit up at the sound of an Essay! Essays were fun! He smiled. Detention with Clair wouldn't be all that bad after all! And then she said they had to write two letters each. Apologies. "WHAT!?" Colin spluttered. "Genuine apologies!? How--!?" Oh, man! He had to offer an actual genuine apology!? What for? Honestly, Clair was really brilliant, but he did not understand the point of this exercise! Then she went on and on about doing a good job, blah blah, have to redo them, blah blah. Aw, crap. This detention was becoming a lot less fun!

And then Clair banged the last nail into the coffin. "A---A buddy shirt!? What's that!?" he asked under his breath. He thought at first it must be some muggle thing. As she explained it, though, he realised that it was no different than when Ma used a sticking charm on him and one of his younger brothers when they were fighting. "Crud," he muttered. That was torture being glued to either Angus or Argus! And they were always sticky boys! Not proper water, dirt or mud, either! But always something --- icky. No matter which one it was, they'd always be whining and trying to get away!

But no, he'd be paired with Yellow Hair in the shirt thing. He began to unbutton his own shirt and slipped it off, preparing don the Shirt of Shame! "Wotcha lass!" he said to Yellow Hair as they wrestled into the huge tee shirt. "I'm ti---!" He almost said ticklish! Thank God he caught himself! "I mean! Just watch it!" If the Ravenclown ever found out, she'd make it absolute torture the whole time!

And then he had to be tied up to Cassie Miss Banshee Jiang! He gave her a really dirty look. Ever since the day in the library, he really disliked her. Colin tried to shift his right shoulder inside the Shirt of Shame, but no matter what he did his arm kept bumping up against Miss Golden Tongue's arm! Worse was the left side! Colin jabbed Cassie in the ribs. "Don't be daft, lass! If you tie it on our wrists, neither of can write. Anyway, it's not my fault you're both right handed!" He tried to wiggle his left arm so the bandana would slide up higher. "Let's tie it as high as possible! And don't touch me!" He made a face at Cassie. At least Cassie couldn't tickle him, what with her arm tied to his!

Why Houses Are Equal

Why all houses are equal? Here is why:
First of all, we are all living creatures, and we all deserve respect. Even a pet or an owl we treat them with respect, so why do we mistreat people from other houses, when we are all just humans who's been sorted into different groups by a hat?
Secondly, we are all one school, after all. Hogwarts' founders were (once) United together. They of course would hate to see their beloved school torn apart just because we're in different groups and different personalities.
Thirdly, every one from different houses is good in their own way. When Griffindors are bold, Slytherins tend to save their own neck in certain times but they are ambitious, designated to do everything. While Ravenclaw are smart, Hufflepuffs are loyal, and whether smart or not, they will always care for their friends.
All people from different houses are the same, thus all houses are equal.

I am very sorry for insulting your house. All houses are equal, and I shouldn't have reacted so violently to your words. Slytherin isn't that bad, it is the same as Ravenclaw. We are all very good for our own house. I'm deeply sorry.

UUUUGGGGHHHH!!!!

"Quit wiggling!" Colin said as the three finally got seated at the desk. It was bad enough being stuffed into a shirt with Yellow Hair, but to be tied up with Banshee Jiang was the limit! Colin squirmed in the buddy shirt, but no matter where he tried to position himself, Elizabeth's arm always seemed to be in the way! Honestly! How did Clair expect any of them to get anything done tied up like this!? He kicked Elizabeth under the desk to try and get her to keep as far away as possible!

EEEUUUGGGHHH!!!

But Colin's left side was far worse! "Detention with my date!?" Colin spat. How could she refer to the love of his heart with the mere word 'date'!? "It was really fine until you two showed up!" Cassie just had to make everything so much more difficult! "Anyway," he said in a low voice; "Twasn't my fault! Not entirely. It was mostly you, Banshee Jiang, screeching the whole time! Ach! Will you stop jerking yer arm around! I can't write properly."

Honestly! Right handed people were the worst! They had no idea how hard it was to write with quill and ink! If only he could use his wand for a sticky charm! He could light his wand okay without touching it, and had been practicing a couple other simple spells, but that wasn't much use now! Colin's parchment kept slipping on the desk and it rotated to an odd angle every time Jiang decided to move her arm! And then Colin began to feel woozy, all cramped up between these two --- girls! He gave both Yellow Hair and Banshee Jiang a kick to get them to spread out a little!

Colin tried to write --- this was not going well at all! Mostly his parchment looked like a map of some crazy world with rivers and roads going every which way! Banshee Jiang kept pulling his left arm! Yellow Hair kept chafing his side! This was quickly becoming the single worst detention ever! The only thing remotely cool about it was that Clair was sitting right in front of him! Unlike in class, where she might be next to him or perhaps with a different study partner, here she was clearly visible!

Colin couldn't take it any more! He wiggled and squirmed until he got his right arm free of the blasted buddy shirt! He huffed, saying under his breath: "This shirt does not make us buddies, Yellow Hair!" Jiang kept yanking on his left arm. He gave her a jab in the ribs. "Stop dragging me arm all over your side of the desk! And you keep touching me!"

Finally at least partially free of the dreaded buddy shirt of shame, Colin got his parchment to behave and he was able to bang out an essay:

On House Equality

All the Houses of Hogwarts are equal because of our school's history. Founded as they were by Salazar Slytherin, Rowena Ravenclaw, Helga Hufflepuff, and Godric Gryffindork. drat. They each have their own values and traditions and pride in the accomplishments of their members.

Some of these values are virtuous, like Wisdom and Loyalty; and some are really quite vitious, like ambition. But all students can learn from each of the Houses equally and respect their values too. Maybe every student can learn to be a little bit from each House's values. There is nothing wrong with a Slytherin who likes to study or jumps into a fight to help someone else!

It's cool if that expression is a pin or a session of taunting each other or cheers during racing or quidditch. Colin smirked as he read over his masterpiece. Jiang and Yellow were still writing. Oof! Colin realised he still had to write two whole apology letters! He rolled his eyes. He let out a sigh and squirmed between the two girls. Better get this torture over with!

Colin tried to lean back but couldn't because he was still bundled up with Miss Sunshine and tied to Miss Banshee. He settled for turning slightly sideways, dangling his bare right arm over the backrest of the bench, letting his left arm move in synchrony with Jiang's final pen strokes and sticking his long bare legs out in front of him. He felt like a big dog in a wee crate! Fortunately, from this position, he had a clear line of sight to Clair!

He knew that she being a good Prefect and all, but that didn't stop him from smiling and winking at her once! Even in detention, his dearest Ravenclaw was always foremost in his mind. He stuck out his tongue a bit and crossed his eyes. Maybe he could get her to crack even the slightest of smiles whilst on official duty! He sighed at the sight of her long dark hair and sky blue eyes. It was certainly worth a try!

Why all houses are equal
All houses are equal because of the following reasons.
1. Long ago, the four best wizards and witches, friends of each other opens Hogwarts together. Namely, they are Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw and Salazar Slytherin. They are all great and none of them seems to be the best. they value different values, so they started the four houses and accepts students of different traits. That is to say, students from different houses have different traits, which are all equally important. Namely, they are Bravery for Gryffindor, kindness and justice for Hufflepuff, wit for Ravenclaw, cunning and ambitious for Slytherin. When dealing with problems, they are equally important.

2. We are all a member of Hogwarts. No matter which house we are in, we are all a proud student of Hogwarts, we study together, we live together in the same castle.
We are all equal.

"Obviously!" Colin rolled his eyes. Elizabeth had asked him if he really thought she enjoyed being in detention. "It was you Ravenclowns that started this," he whispered. "That was supposed to be a discussion until the screech owl here decided to let the whole library know!" Colin let out a small sigh. He would never admit it to Elizabeth, but he too couldn't wait to get out of this horribly confining shirt and back into his own!

To make matters worse, Jiang decided to squawk to Clair. Colin rolled his eyes again. Honestly, the girl had no idea when to keep her mouth shut! He gave her foot a kick. She gave him an evil smile in return. “Look, it’s bad enough to have you tied to me arm, and me leg! Ye’re worse than a boat anchor! But shut yer cake hole and write faster!”

Fortunately he and Elizabeth finished at about the same time. Clair read Elizabeth’s essay first, and then his own because he finished second. He wondered what she’d written. Probably drivel designed to get Clair to side with her. He did catch a couple words, though, as Clair took their parchments. He saw words like respect and unity and something about the school being torn apart. Hmm. Colin wondered. Perhaps if Yellow Hair weren’t such an insufferable child, she might actually be an interesting girl!

He wasn’t able to pursue that line of thought any longer because Jiang was still torturing him with her scribbling. He squirmed around again, to get a better look at her essay. “Aw, crud! Ye’re not even finished writing yet, Jiangle-berry?” For a girl who could talk a thousand words a minute, she was certainly taking her bloody sweet time to write a simple essay!

Colin found it odd, as he scanned over her lines, that she’d put Gryffindork first. “Honestly. Even if you don’t put the best house first, at least put yer own house at the top of your list!” There was nothing to it but to continue suffering along with Yellow Hair in the shirt of shame until Jiangles got done writing.

Clair was watching them. Dispassionate. She really was a good Prefect, Colin thought. Salwis had brought in this huge plate of pancakes and syrup and ate them right in front of him and Quinn last year. He never admitted it to anyone, least of all Sam, but the smell of those pancakes, and the butter and syrup, oh how that got to him! It really did make him hungry! But Clair just watched them calmly. She seemed to take no notice of their bickering. If only they weren’t all tied up like this! He wondered. Would she like to talk afterwards? Maybe have lunch together later?

I am to apologize in this letter. After all, I started the whole lot by wearing the badge. Sorry if it really causes uncomfort to you. I also needs to apologize for saying some bad words about Slytherin. Now I have truly understood that all houses are equal.
I also do wish that Slytherin and Ravenclaw can one day, become friends, perhaps we can help each other and learn from each other.
