2023, Stage 3 Slytherin vs Gryffindor: Match 11

With Fulgari dreadfully identified, Astrea had little hesitation in pulling up a shield charm in some attempt to curb the disastrously claustrophobic effects. However unusual those lashing cords were in the duelling sphere, they were quickly absorbed with a dissipating shimmer, for an experienced duellist's reflexes rivalled little else in the name of magical retaliation. Even lingering smoke and the second descending crack of lightning in mere seconds could not sway the Gryffindor team from restoring a portion of their morale—a respectable, if not wholly unconventional, strategical adaptation. As for Astrea, the viper's resolve could not be readily challenged in a way that mattered, not until the playing field became more easily discernable.

Poor Astrea ended up tangled up once again from this horrendous Fulgari. Meenauh was a force to be reckoned with that was for sure. Alans spell made Meenauh immediately look better than she did two seconds prior although she was now *literally on fire* so that wasn't ideal. But nobody got hit by lightning so... bonus? I suppose?

Every time Fulgari was successfully applied, she checkmarked it in her mind. Useful spells had to be useful, and she needed confirmation. The concentration to aim and hit it well resulted in lack of evasion as the spell from the opposing side hit her just nice, setting her ablaze. Something she was totally not a fan of. Something to get rid of immediately. At least the Impedimenta was off the table, for which she thankfully nodded to Alan.

Alan nodded back at Meenauh. "That would have been nasty, but we will turn this around again," he said confidently, a grin on his face. He would then turn back to their opponents. There had to be something they could do in order to get through with this quickly, right? Focus, Alan, focus. They got this.

Astrea was bound again. That wasn't good. That was, in fact, what they'd been trying to avoid, and it wasn't a losing sentence but it certainly wasn't good new either. Astrea was the harder hitter between the two of them, at the very least because she projected her spells to a level Bridget wasn't capable of.

What was worse, Bridget was not performing well. She was trying not to get in her head about it, because that only tended to make it worse, but she was missing more than she was hitting. They weren't going to win this if she couldn't shoulder her own half of this.

A test of strategical wits, or perhaps sheer karmic retribution for their efforts. Indeed, those were some of the only possibilities to entail Astrea's temporary incapacitation. The Gryffindor team was undoubtedly persistent, even with green flame and the remnants of smoke polluting the air.

One would believe that a second experience would ease the trepidation of unfamiliarity, but it must have been either enemy desperation or her mind that twisted the entangling cords tighter than they appeared before. The phantom countdown, uncheckable in their intensive focus, seemed entirely more damning in its restriction -- a determinative bind that Astrea had no intention of neglecting.

That was uneventful, well, mostly. Alan healed up Meenauh just as the flames licked at her robes, the Slytherins mostly focused on getting Astrea back to casting glory, ignoring the Gryffindors and their threats as Astrea managed to dodge a blast of water coming towards her, despite her current bound predicament. The duel was a good 3 quarters of the way through now, Delilah was excited to see how it would go down.

She expected some decent extinguishing, but healing was something even better. She bowed to Alan as she started her spell. Which failed to reach the bound target. A pity. The flames were really a distracting factor, which was thankfully starting to fade away. As the duel was slowly fading away as well. They needed to come up with something decent. It was the battle of wits more than anything else at that very moment.

Alan gave a determined smile when he raised his wand once more. It wasn't going great, but it was going well enough in his opinion. He was confident that Meenauh and he could turn it around once more and for things to be in their favor again. They just had to keep going.

They were back to this unfortunately familiar pattern. Astrea struggled against biting magic restraints, Bridget loosened them, it swallowed more time than either of them wanted it to. No one wanted to spend the majority of their duel just trying to return to fighting form.

Still, it could be worse. A dreary motto, but Meenauh's attempt to douse Astrea splashed down at their feet rather than their faces. Alan's healing might not bode well in the long run, but it was better than the immediate threat of some other spell. And Astrea was quite impressive dodging under these conditions, Bridget would have to praise her for that, but still, she itched for the moment both of them could counter in unison. She wanted to put up a good fight against Meenauh, that didn't really entail showing off a competency at the General Counter Spell of all things.
