Katelyn was planning on returning back to her common room, but she somehow felt a bit overwhelmed today by all the things going on around her. Therefore, instead of heading back with the other Ravenclaws, she decided to take a walk around the castle to pacify her mood.

As she strolled down corridors and corridors, she marveled at the complicated structure of the Hogwarts castle. How did anyone even think of such an architecture? She thought to herself. While she walked down another relatively unfamiliar path, she suddenly heard some noises not far away. She immediately retreated into the dark, drew out her wand, and peered carefully ahead. She saw a vague figure a few meters in front of her, most likely another student wandering around the school for fun.

She hesitated about what she should do next. She could just walk away, but her curiosity of what the other student is doing made her want to stay and look. Then she heard a boy’s voice: “Woah! This is so cool!” So he is exploring the castle grounds. A Gryffindor, I presume? “What did you find that made you so surprised?” Katelyn walked out of the shadows and asked, hoping that she didn’t startle the excited boy.

"Simple, I found a new secret passageway, which I thought didn't exist, but now I know that it does. Did you follow the noise here too?" Katelyn has indeed heard some noise a few minutes ago, but she has thought that it was made by this boy instead of someone or something else. What could possibly be hidden inside this passageway that the boy was just talking about? She curiosity grew as their conversation went on.

“So there’s something in there? I’ve hear some noise just now, but I’m not sure what made it.” Only now did she notice that this boy is in fact a Hufflepuff, instead of a Gryffindor as she had previously thought. She was told that Hufflepuffs usually likes to stay in the common room and chat with their housemates. So it seems that there are always false stereotypes, aren’t there? But at least the Ravenclaw stereotype of loving to read seems to match her quite well.

Mark Myers? This name sounds sort of familiar. Maybe I’ve heard of his name in classes before? Katelyn can’t think of any other way that she could possibly hear of someone from a different house’s name. “My name is Katelyn Gonzales, but you can call me Kate for short if you’d like. Are you also a second year student?” She has no idea why she told Mark her nickname as soon as they first met. The only person that actually calls her by Kate is her parents, at least before now. Maybe there’s something special about Mark that makes me trust him? Katelyn wondered.

Based on what Mark has told Katelyn, there is something inside a secret passageway that creates noise from time to time. It might be a creature that’s inside, like a cat, a mouse or something like that. She guessed, though instinct tells her that it will most likely be something much more interesting and unique inside.

The idea of entering the passageway to find out the truth sounds intriguing to Katelyn, though she’s also clearly aware of the potential danger. She usually has a tendency of looking on the bad side of things, so instead of thinking about the fun they might have by exploring, she focuses more on the risks. “Sure, I’d love to check it out. But perhaps we should draw out our wands, you know, just in case there’s any danger hidden inside.” She suggested. Fortunately, the two of them going in together will be a lot safer than entering alone, as there will be someone to give you a hand when necessary.

Just as Katelyn has guessed, Mark is also a second year, or else she wouldn’t have heard of his name somewhere. “So you’ve been here for a year as well. What do you like most about Hogwarts? My favorite place is definitely the library, what about you?”
