set back, the first day of second year, just after the sorting ceremony
Alexx had hardly even made it through the night and it was already hectic. Meeting new professors, seeing her old friends, preparing for new classes with new professors teaching them. It was all so very new to her, and she really was just figuring it out. There really was no easy way to understand how to cope with change. It was less the case that Alexx was unaware as to how to deal with change, but more so that she wasn't used to it. Her life had always stayed the same, and then she was shoved into the busy halls of Hogwarts, and everything stirred. She didn't mind it, though. It was an easy rhythm that kept her upbeat and on her toes. Who was she to say that this wasn't fun? She wouldn't deny the truth if asked. She did indeed enjoy the change. It was frequent and flowed smoothly. It kept things real.

Her summer had been uneventful to say the very least. She left the summer camp towards the end as it just wasn't her scene, and she did a few other things on the side before having to return to school. But she was ready to be back, given that all of her friends were here and whatnot. She was sat at the Slytherin table, but she was just about to turn in for the night and go up to the common room. She was tired, and a soft yawn made it past her lips once or twice. By this time of the night, she was able to physically feel her eyelids grow dark and heavy. Her arms were ready for a good stretch, and her body was even more ready to be snuggled up under the soft covers of her bed. Running a hand through her hair, she allowed herself to yawn once more, expressing just how tired she was. The first day always wore her out.

The conversation she was having was uneventful, and she wasn't quite interested in what anyone else was saying. It was filled with the mindless chatter of who did what over the summer, nothing that she was concerned with. Her summer was an event, yes, but not one that she felt the need to show off as if it were a prize. There was no need. If you were there, you saw it. If you weren't, then you didn't. Those who were there knew, and that was that. No one else needed to be involved, which is why she shared the same feeling about other people's lives. She didn't feel the need to pry into what they did with their holiday if she weren't there. What, was she to be jealous of Disneyland or Japan or Jamaican cruises?

So she politely excused herself, the way that she was taught to do so when she was younger, and stepped away from her seat. Turning on her heel to face the exist, she did one last scan in case she missed anyone that she knew. Her eyes could not meet the gaze of anyone; most others were busy with their friends or had already retired. Being a second year now, she had more leeway when it came to disappearing early on the first day back, she had realized. She shrugged, deciding that no one here was worth her while, and anyone she was hoping to speak to would see her in class or walking about the corridors.

But then she caught the eyes of a blonde girl clad in Ravenclaw attire standing not too far from the Slytherin table. It was not someone Alexx could immediately recognize; Alexx was not familiar with many people as odd as that was. Though she tried to be, it was difficult some days. But this particular girl looked as though she may have been searching for someone. Alexx walked towards her, trying to decide if she should offer help or mind her business. She hesitated either way, unsure as to which it were that would be the best decision in this scenario. So she paused, waiting instead. It was a hit or miss, but it meant a social interaction with a stranger. Alexx hadn't seen her about, and if she had she didn't remember it, but she could tell she was no older and no younger than herself, just based on pure intuition. It was a gut feeling, more or less. So in conclusion, Alexx offered a friendly smile her way, considering that was the best she could offer for someone who may have been lost.

And she did realize that Alexx didn't know her life or what she was looking for; she may just best hanging about looking suspicious and Alexx was just feeling nice that day. But in any case, she felt better being friendly. It wasn't every day that she did so, what with her parents being so underground and all that. Being able to just smile at someone felt nice. It was sort of like a reassurance to herself that she wasn't a shitty person or something like that. Mentally, she shrugged, a half-frown forming softly on her face. It was whatever; she was reading too much into it. She decided that she was just tired and overthinking little details. It had been a long trip, after all.
