This is a detention thread between Aurelia Bezuidenhout and Emma Hill.

As stated in the new in character detention rules, you are not allowed to start threads until this one is “complete.” You are allowed to join rps, continue already started ones, and post in out of character threads.

While I would like to see you finish this thread completely, the requirements I’ll set are when you’re allowed to start new threads again:
1. Each post you make has to be 200+ words.
2. You must post at least 3 times, if not more.
3. Besides my initial post, you do not have to wait for Anton to reply. When it’s a natural place for you two to finish, I’ll step in again.
Anton was in the potion classroom well before the two girls would be there. He wasn’t pleased that the two of them were dueling in his classroom and trying to break school supplies. He had woken up early and gotten himself to his classroom to do his own brewing while he’d supervise the detention. By the time the girls arrived, he’d already be well into his potion’s brewing time, and would be able to engage with them momentarily before going back to his work.

Once the two girls would be there - and if they were late, an extra hour would be tacked on despite how late they were - he’d get up and walk towards a desk of picture books. There were pencils, colored pencils and pastels, with some empty sketchbooks. Along where the desks usually were, two cushions were set on the floor.

“You two seem to lack in teamwork, and so we’re going to test that today. Both of you will take the art supplies and a book, and then sit on one of the cushions, back to back. From there, you will decide who will go first. The person who goes first will describe their picture that they’ve chosen using only directions, shapes and adjectives. For example,” he picked up a book that was relatively basic, one about brooms he took from the library, “If you choose a Quidditch book, you cannot say broom, but can describe it.”

He placed the book down and then proceeded to study both girls for a long moment before he rose an eyebrow. “When the picture is complete, you will switch roles. I want a minimum of three from each of you, before you are to leave. If you need me, I’ll be working on a potion, but otherwise, you’re set to go about your detention without needing to bother me.”

He would, of course, answer any pressing questions, and then proceed to step back towards his brew. This was set near his normal desk, on the raised area of the classroom, and would obviously allow Aurelia and Emma to know he was watching them.

Aurelia had dragged her feet out of bed when the morning light barely shone through the windows. Getting up early during the weekends knowing that the others in her dormitory could sleep in was frustrating. For the first time in Hogwarts, she had detention, all for something she was not guilty for.

Emma attempted to destroy her potion with a spell and the Gryffindor had countered it. It was defence not offense. The not-so-smart Ravenclaw had even flicked her wand and casted Flipendo. The professor just had to appear at that moment. It was just her terribly bad luck. The twelve year old wasn’t even given a chance to explain. It was ridiculous.

The professor was already there, she was a few minutes early. In the middle of the room was two cushions, something you’d be able to find in divination class as well as art materials and picture books laying in piles around the pillow. Aurelia raised an eyebrow, it was exactly somethings that would be seen in preschool not detention.

The girl would wait for Emma to arrive. The professor then began explaining what they were supposed to do in the hour. Both the corners of Aurelia’s lips twisted into a scowl. Had the professor really expected it to be sunshine and rainbows after the session? He would get no such thing.

The cushion sank as Aurelia sat on it, back facing Emma. The Gryffindor picked up a picture book. This was fairly easy. She’d just have to describe and Emma had to draw. Aurelia’s gazed followed the Professor as he walked towards his desk. He was quite a distance away, so she could spit out anything at it was unlikely for him to hear.

You just had to drag me into this, Emma. By the way, your attempts at destroying the potion was not a success, I still have it. Anyways, let’s get this stupid game done with and I can get away from you as far as I possibly can. ” The girl hissed.

This is a man. Almost as ugly as you. No nose, no hair, has a snake as a pet.” she described. If Emma would get this wrong, Aurelia would laugh. As usual, she attempted to annoy the Ravenclaw. It didn’t matter what Emma would do for she wouldn’t dare to do much as they were right under a Professor’s nose.

Emma could understand a little bit why she had received detention but it wasn't exactly the most accurate. She was attempting to prevent a demented student from losing her memories, of course, she should have just let her brew the ludicrous potion. The spell should have hit her, well the potion vial, but it would have been nice to see her get hit also. She was only trying to be helpful, but even the word helpful had its own variations.

Of course, she was placed in detention with Aurelia. She would have been much happier to clean cauldrons or dust crystal vials by herself way past midnight, yet there she was sneaking out to go to detention instead of exploring Hogwarts. With a few creaks in the floorboard, she had slid out of her dormitory and proceeded to the classroom, no materials in her hands this time. Just her fiery eyes and sleepy brain.

Crossing her arms as she walked in, the Ravenclaw took a seat, without another to look at Aurelia. She was too tired to give her a glimpse or even look at her and nor did she want to. She wasn't a morning person, in fact, if it hadn't been so cloudless and early in the day, her eyes would have appeared to be narrowed continually. Still, she remained attentive to compose a snappy riposte.

This was absolutely pointless. Nothing good was going to come out from the exercise, in fact, this only made things worse for the two, how unexpected. "I bet you feel absolutely accomplished don't you, Aurelia." She said bluntly, her head turned slightly so that the Gryffindor could hear her properly. Emma's words didn't affect her, but it was nice to presume so.

As she described the person, she wanted to kick her in the back, but she remembered... they were sitting on the floor. The best she could do was jab her in the head with a pencil or marker, but the professor was watching and she didn't gamble her odds to do anything ridiculous. Outlining the figure in pencil first, she smiled slightly. It wasn't the expected figure, more like a student whom she'd recognize. Of course, she drew it in the corner, leaving the huge space to draw the real subject. If only Emma and Aurelia were facing each other.

The sketch was a young boy in Hogwarts robes with messy hair. At least, that's what all the art supplies were doing in the room. Why did a potions professor have art supplies to begin with? She wondered, shrugging against Aurelia's shoulders. Grabbing a yellow marker and a blue one, she began to fill in his robes followed by his eyes, that was good enough.

Shifting to the middle of the paper, she began to draw out a stick figure with two dots for eyes and a frown, with no nose of course. Oh and the wand inside of his hand, but just to be sure, she wrote out the name of the Dark Lord sprawled out on the paper 'Tom Marvolo Riddle' and picked up the piece of paper and slid it over her head.

"Alright, Aurelia. You and this person have a lot in common. You're both purebloods, and you're hiding something at Hogwarts. He's extremely stupid, and you might end up leaving Hogwarts just like him. He's got a long beard also." The brunette said, rebounding her words right back to her. If it wasn't hatred, it was a competition, and Emma was extremely competitive.

Aurelia rolled her pair of blue eyes at Emma’s comment. The rough scratching of pencil against paper could be heard. The girl was quick with sketching out the picture as she turned to take one of the many picture books. She had done it so swiftly that it made Aurelia wonder wether the girl had drew it right. They’d have a couple more minutes in store for them is she hadn’t.

It was her first detention, and his detention was ridiculous, sitting on cushions with art materials like kindergarten children. Aurelia was far from a child but Emma clearly had a mindset of one. In her year and a half in the Scottish castle, Aurelia had never seen a Ravenclaw who was stupid enough to pull out her wand and cast a defensive spell. The possibilities of a second year having an on-point accuracy was slim. Emma could have missed and hit her instead, though Aurelia was sure that it might have brought a smile on that girl’s face.

The way Emma had explained the picture was vague. Long beard... there was a fair amount of people with beards. Aurelia did not give a response to the insult, it would only extend their time in the damned potions classroom. Was it the half giant Hagrid? No it wasn’t, Hagrid didn’t leave, he was kicked out.

It felt like her head was scratched from the inside, tickling her brain like how it always did when she solved riddles. The twelve year old wasn’t very good at them in the first place. Aurelia gave up and settled with Hagrid. She briefly sketched a picture of a round heavy man with long frizzy hair and a beard.

The next book was on a magical creature that Aurelia had seen a few times. “Horse like creature. Related to death. It’s skinny, and eats meat. ” The girl described.

If this was detention, Emma sort of enjoyed it. Besides arising up on a Saturday morning and attending it along with Aurelia, it was quite entertaining to sit around and draw whatever popped into her head at the time. Because it was seven o'clock in the morning, there weren't many thoughts that formed. Perhaps this moment, it was a fun detention that she could enjoy. If detentions were going to be as pleasant as doodling illustrations on paper, getting into trouble suddenly seemed feeble. The following one wouldn't be as enjoyable, but any time away from Aurelia was time she spent well.

Hopefully, time was almost over and she could return to her bed and fall asleep once more if she could fall quiet that is. It was a Saturday, meaning there was nothing to do but to stick around in the common room and chatter alongside with the members of her house. She didn't mind talking with the others, but much preferably she'd rather be relaxing in her bed reading the Lord of the Rings.

Never in her life had she seen an insecure Gryffindor, but even the stereotypes of other houses had to be broken too, whether for good or bad. Not just Ravenclaw's nerdy clique. Trying to shake off the thought, she concentrated on the words of Aurelia (as hard as she could).

For the second time, Aurelia had gone easier on her. She didn't know if it was because she wanted to get out of detention as soon as she could, or just out of her plain heart; that wasn't likely. For the sake of getting out of detention, she began to name simpler terms, one that the Gryffindor's mind could process correctly. She began to doodle a small-scaled Thestral on the bottom of her paper, giving her room to draw the next. She had seen one a few, unfornuately, but she had to move on despite her grieving. Sure wish Aurelia could learn that...

"Alright," the brunette said dropping her pencil to begin her description. "She's also in Gryffindor... I guess. Gigantic bushy, uncontainable hair. She excels in practically everything, except in Defense Against the Dark Arts." She said, still facing the opposite way as her. "Can we get this over with," she said, hinting slightly with an annoyed tone.

Emma clearly was losing patience even though they were already doing it as fast as possible. Aurelia was bored sitting like kindergarten children. They’d already finished discribing three images. Shouldn’t they be allowed to leave or was the professor not noticing?

The next image Emma described was was simple but still not very specific. She had used present tense while Hermione Granger had already graduated from hogwarts and ‘was’ in Gryffindor. Regardless, Aurelia wasn’t to great in her grammar too. Hermione Granger was now the minister of magic. Aurelia wasn’t much of an artist but at least she tried drawing the hair as bushy as possible as well as an attempted lion on the Gryffindor crest.

I think were done.” Aurelia rolled her eyes as Emma yet again complained.

Professor, I think we’re done, it’s been four images. ” Aurelia lifted her paper to show the Professor her ‘art piece’. If she had to stay for a few minutes longer, Aurelia would too, get irritated like how Emma was now. She’d just hope it wouldn’t be for too long.

It was Emma’s fault that she had gotten detention. Yet Emma was the one more annoyed than her. If it wasn’t for Emma, Aurelia wouldn’t be in detention in the first place.

Emma was ready to leave. It was obviously clear. If this was detention, the only thing it had taught her was that she was a brilliant artist when she actually tried. Like any other student, she wanted to get back to her dormitory and continue sleeping only to wake up and work on her essay for Astronomy. Unfornuately, it wasn't going to write itself. Well, not with her current quill at least.

Alas, they had drawn two images individually, meaning it was time to leave the dungeons without another word to her. She already had it plotted out, except it was discreet to leave the section where she jinxed her out of her exit. Leaving detention was one thing, but earning a separate detention was twice as bad. Besides, the next detention wouldn't have been so pleasant. Why on earth didn't they do detentions like this at her primary school?

Finally, she stood without warning, though she didn't dare move her feet, nor did she feel like mustering the energy to do so. Instead, she looked at the professor. A tired, annoyed, and questioning face wrapped into one. She bent down to retrieve her paper, then showed it to the Potions Master. Both Voldemort and Thestral, which she had managed to put some detail into, doodled on to the page, waiting for the approval of the professor.

"Are we free to go?" The Ravenclaw asked, turning the Gryffindor's words into a question.

Anton was always aware of everything that went on in his classroom when he was there. It was no different now that he was babysitting two children who couldn't even remain civil. Despite what they thought, he could hear every word spoken, and from his cauldron, he couldn't help but roll his eyes. Then again, as they finished, and held up only four pieces of art, he couldn't help but roll his eyes.

What did they take him for?

"No, you may not leave yet," he replied. He stood up and stepped around his bubbling cauldron towards the two girls, "First of all, I do not enjoy your attitude towards me, or each other. Just because I was busy doesn't mean I didn't hear every word you two said to each other. Secondly, it's clear neither of you were listening to instructions," Anton's mood towards both the Gryffindor and Ravenclaw was thinning, and while his patience was being lost, his control was not.

"I asked for three pieces from each of you. Therefore, I expect to see six. I see four. You were both clearly horrid listeners, as I said you could only use shapes, adjectives and directions to explain your piece. I'll let that one slip, but only for this one time," he straightened himself up and looked down at the children.

He could make them suffer; if he really wanted to. He could come off as the mean professor, who would make children completely uncomfortable. He had other work to do that wasn't just babysitting. "One more each and then you're free to leave my classroom. I expect you to no longer fool around in my classroom, save your next detention will be much worse." It was a warning, but one that Anton wasn't going to back down from.
As stated in the first post, after (3) posts, you're allowed to make threads again. Once you both post once more, feel free to have your student leave. You do not have to wait for Anton to post again.

Without the permission to the leave the dungeons, Emma plummeted down into the cushion letting out a faintly annoyed sigh. He didn't expect her to behave on a Saturday morning, did he? Without the detention, she would have been using the time to study, or even better; just to merely sleep inside of the four-poster bed.

"Okay, Professor," the brunette forced out of her mouth. She didn't try to hide the feeble annoyance in her voice, and she most definitely didn't conceal the fatigue in her voice. "We'll draw one more picture, the right way." If she was being honest, she wasn't listening to the professor exactly though she didn't dare take her eyesight off as he spoke to both of them. Unlike the first time, his tone did happen to catch her attention and she didn't want to stay any longer to annoy him any longer. She couldn't imagine what upcoming classes with him would be like.

This time, the brunette decided she was going to go first and get the time over with, though she doubted she'd be able to sleep after the events that occurred in the classroom. Now that she thought about it, the task suddenly seemed a lot harder, but she merely grinned at the thought of it.

After a few seconds of thinking, she decided to go with the fourth thing that popped into her head. "It's a flexible, obtuse string filled with red, white, and blue lines. At the bottom of the string lies a yellow, two-dimensional circle." Finally, only a few minutes remained in the detention.
