David quietly slipped into the Great Hall, hurrying over to sit near the end of the Hufflepuff table closest to the entrance. Today was a bit unusual for him. He'd made it to breakfast early today. He tended to stay up well into the evening reading his school textbooks by the lamlight in his dormitory.

Next to him he placed his rucksack that contained all of his textbooks for his first set of classes that day. For now, he was hoping to take his time. Because he usually woke up later in the morning, he rarely had time to really sit and enjoy his breakfast because always needed to rush to class.

He eagerly took several strips of bacon, a couple of eggs cooked over well and a couple of slices of toast, setting them on his plate. They looked absolutely delicious. The bacon was thicker than what he'd usually seen before he came to Hogwarts, and it emitted and savory sweer maple aroma that made his mouth water. The eggs were cooked exactly right: Not too soft and not burnt. They also had a sparse amount of black seasoning on top. The toast was also toasted exactly right, colored golden brown and David wasted no time applying some butter to each alice while the nread was still warm.

David began to eat, starting first on his eggs and delighting in the light spice the seasonings added to the food. As always, the food was perfect and didn't leave David wanting for more. Nonody aas sitting near him and that was by choice. He didn't feel comfortable butting into the space of one of the existing groups lining the Hufflepuff table, and since he usually ate breakfast alone anyways, he felt more comfortable sitting a reasonable distance away from everyone else.

Miko was sitting a little ways away to David but one of the only ones near him. "Ello! I see you're a bit hungry." he said, chuckling. The boy couldn't judge though, he was starving as well. No matter if he was rushing or not the other still seemed hungry. Taking a good look at the food on the table he pondered on what he would eat. Normally, he'd just stuff his face with whatever was on the table but today he wanted to pick and choose a bit more carefully.

Then, the young Hufflepuff realized why the other boy's mouth was watering. The bacon looked absolutely delicious! Of course Miko was familiar with house elves cooking, his step-father usually took home dinners that the house elves cooked, always using this as justification, "We mustn't waste what those hard workers have made for the company!". It didn't sound wrong just showed how kind the man was compared to his husband which was more rugged than himself.

He grabbed about 4 pieces of the bacon and looked around again while putting the bacon on his plate. Finally, he grabbed a 2 pieces of toast, a cinnamon roll, and 3 eggs. Miko knew it seemed like a lot of food but he knew he could get through it relatively quickly. Quickly he gulped down all his bacon and his toast and eyeballed David's food. "Yer food looks mighty good, mate. Ya sure yer gonna finish all of that?" the boy rushed David, eagerly.

Upon hearing the new voice aimed at him, David jumped slightly, nearly dropping his fork into his eggs. He looked up to see the energetic boy he had interacted with at the Hufflepuff table before. For some reason, the name of the boy seemed to be escaping him. He began to panic slightly. Forgetting someone's name, if he had learned it before, was rude. Should he ask again? No, it was better to just hope it wouldn't come up until he remembered.

He readjusted the grip on his fork. "I didn't think it was that much, and I have some time before I need to get to class this morning, so I thought I could take my time this morning," He cut himself another bite of the eggs and continued eating, taking a moment to pour himself a glass of orange juice from a nearby pitcher and taking a drink to wash it down, eyeing the food the othe rboy put on his plate.

It wasn't too different from what David had selected, but instead of eggs he had picked a cinnamon roll. David couldn't say he was too fond of sweets in the morning. He had always felt they were more of a dessert or snack type of food. He took a sample of the bacon, savoring the hint of maplewood thew bacon had been smoked with. That was about the limit of sweetness he could take, but it was still delicious. He couldn't really judge the other boy if he wanted to eat something sweet in the morning. It was probably a good pick-me-up to kickstart the day.

"I think I can manage. Like I said, I have a some more time this morning," David said, responding to the boy's query. It looked like the boy had actually picked out more to eat than David, though. "It looks like you have some time yourself, if you picked out that much."

" Well, yeah I s'pose I do!" Miko replied to David. None of his classes really started until 15 minutes after breakfast ended completely so he clearly had time. " When I try out for Seeker of the Hufflepuff Quidditch Team that won't be the case though." he laughed. Of course he was going to try out for any quidditch position but Seeker is the one he really wants to be since one of his dads was one professionally.

"What about you? Do you have any plans for the future while here?" the boy asked, eagerly. Maybe David would also try out for a Quidditch position, then they could play as a team! If the other wouldn't though they could still talk to each other about the games or whatever he would be doing at the time. David seemed like someone who would become a prefect quite quickly rather than Miko who would probably be focusing on the flying sport instead of becoming a prefect. Nothing is wrong with being a prefect just that's not the direction Miko would head for, he'd want to be a really good Hufflepuff Quidditch Seeker maybe even well known!

Fame doesn't matter for him but the fun would be enough of a reward instead of being popular among his peers.

There it was again. That Quidditch sport terminology had surfaced. David still knew pretty much nothing about the sport. He knew it took place on flying broomsticks and that it played like a cross between American Football and English Football. That was about it. He'd heard about Seekers, Quaffles, Blugeons, and Snitches, but after guessing one of those terms might be the name of the ball they used, he had no clue what kind of positions the rest were. It honestly didn't help that he wasn't really knowledgeable about the rules of any normal sports either.

So when the boy that sat with him began talking about wanting to be a Seeker for the Hufflepuff Quidditch team, David could only really nod, taking an opportunity to dig into his food so that he wouldn't have to respond immediately and embarrass himself by displaying his own ignorance.

When the other boy asked what David was planning to do with his time at the school, David had to ponder the question for a moment. Quidditch was very unlikely for his future, but there weren't a lot of options outside of that. There had been a few clubs that had formed around school for theatre, literature, and other more mundane subjects, but David didnt't see much appeal from them.

A prominent example that burst forth in his mind was some talk about an anti-bullying club. There had been some drama the year before involving some now second-years. What the drama consisted of wasn't clear, but apparently some nasty magic had been involved. David briefly considered asking Milo about it, but discarded the notion quickly. It would be better to work up the courage to ask a second year that was actually around than a fellow first year that would have, at best, secondhand information.

I'm not really sure what I want to do yet." David confessed. It was a question he had been going over a lot since he had arrived. "We're still pretty early on in classes, so I think I might just wait and see if there are any classes I'm doing really well at before I start seriously looking into what I can do with what we're learning. But after school, I might just-"

He was about to say he'd just do the kind of work his mother did. But, he actually didn't know what Alison Moore worked as for a profession. She had mentioned she was involved with a Magical Business, but she hadn't elaborated beyond that, maybe thinking the technicals would go over David's uninitiated mind.

"Yeah, I actually just don't know what I'll do yet, David huuridly changed the subject. "So if you're going for the Quidditch team, are you really good at Flying? David recalled his first attempt and shuddered.

"Well, the Flying Professor says so. I also have good vision so I think I'd be pretty good." Miko quickly informed the other boy. David seemed kind of clueless on the topic of Quidditch so he thought he should help him out. " You don't seem like you know a lot about Quidditch, would you like me to tell you about it?" Miko asked. Quidditch was one of the only things he knew loads about so if David wanted to be taught about it, Miko was his guy.

Obviously if the other boy didn't want to be taught at the moment that was fine too. He said he hadn't known what to do at school other than classes which Miko thought was also good to be thinking about since grades are important in school. Honestly if he, himself was going to pick a class he was most excited about taking was the advanced Defence Against the Dark Arts classes also know as DADA. The class just seemed so interesting and cool and besides that Ollivander guy said his wand was the best with defensive powers si maybe he would be great at th is class woth his particular wand.

David almost jumped in his seat when Miko suddenly brought Quidditch back onto the subject. Had he really been that obvious? He had tried to let the subject pass silently. It could be that Miko was just extremely passionate about the sport. It was in-line with his goals, after all.

Pondering for a moment, David decided it might be best to humor Miko on letting him explain the sport. Without any concrete goals himself and without any meaningful magical background, he wasn't sure how else to keep the conversation going other than continuing down this path, even if learning a sport wasn't his biggest priority, it'd probably still be good to know considering the World Cup competition for the sport was the talk of the school.

"Sure," David began. "I guess I really don't know much of anything about Quidditch, so i'd appreciate some pointers." He recalled the scattered details he had heard about how Quidditch was played. "So what does the person who is the Snitch do? Is it their job to look at how the enemy team is playing so that they can organize the team?" That was the closest approximation he could think of to what somebody who played the Snitch role might do in a flying soccer sport. "What about the Bludgeons, I heard that they generally need to be in tip-top shape, so do they play, like, the offense?"

He picked a piece of his toast, butter now melted and applied a light spread of grape jam before sinking his teeth into it. Hopefully that was enough questions to get the ball or... the Quaffle rolling.

Miko was extremely confused at what David was saying. The role of the Snitch? Haha! He probably meant Seeker. " Oh!" he laughs, "A Snitch is a ball that the seeker tries to get. It's got wings and is the smallest ball out of the others, if you catch the Snitch you earn 150 points and the game ends." he quickly spat out. "And no, they aren't the boss the Quidditch Team Captain is of course!" Miko couldn't help but chuckle at the other's mistake.

"Bludgeons are another ball and are handled by the two Beaters which smack the balls toward the other team. The Bludgeons' purpose is to prevent the other team from either catching the Snitch or making a goal. I guess they play more of defense really. " he gave David more and more information on this amazing sport. "The other positions are Keepers and Chasers. The Keepers protect the goals which each are worth different points against the Quaffle which the Chasers are trying to make in the goals." Miko added.

The young boy looked at David and exhaled after the short explanation of Quidditch. He was waiting for anymore questions from the other boy to answer.

David felt the color rise to his cheeks. Saying his guesses were well of the mark would have been an understatement. But one detail caught his interest: Wings. That was new.

His assumption was that there was really not much different from soccer other than the players flying. However, now there was multiple balls in play and at least one had wings and was apparently flying around on their own.

"So, do the other balls fly around too? Like the... Bludgeon, was it? David asked. He was processing the player positions that were explained to him. A keeper, a seeker, two beaters, and the three chasers he was already aware of. Taking out the Snitch, which was actually not a player, that would leave seven players on each team, unless, "Are there any other positions on the team? What about fouls? If your flinging balls at the other team, then is there any fouls in the game? It seems like it might be kinda shaky."

The Bludgeon issue seemed pretty suspect to David. The other boy said it was a defensive thing, but flinging projectiles at the enemy team seemed pretty offensive in nature. David similarly wasn't exactly sure about how promising the game sounded if it was loose on its rules about knocking players off their brooms and sending them hurtling to the ground. Then again, they probably had enchantments to make the field softer or something. The image of a player bouncing off of the flat green of the Quidditch Pitch as if it were a trampoline flashed briegly in David's mind.

David seemed a bit embarrassed that his guesses were incorrect. Although he was starting to understand it a bit better, the other boy kept asking questions! "To put it simply, all but the Snitch just float, they must be controlled by the players. The Only other position on the team is Captain which is normally a keeper but it may vary. As for fouls, yes there are fouls for example if you tamper with a players' broom that's a foul or if you put your hands on another player." he informed David. Quidditch was not very difficult to play once you get the hang of flying, at least for Miko.

The young Hufflepuff was fixing his tie while imagining him as a Seeker, the hard work and the fearlessness you had to do and have! It just seemed so thrilling and perfect for Miko, especially since his eye sight and speed is most valuable assets. He could see his team cheering for him as he caught the Snitch and saved the game, that felt amazing. To finally be given credit for his actions, the rather important ones at least. For Miko, Quidditch was the best sport in the world.
