Sketch with a Good Friend Closed

After an exhausting class, Ava needed to wind back and relax. She had come from a particularly challenging charms class, and she had not succeeded in casting the target spell. On the contrary, it had gone terribly wrong and instead of locking the lock they had been given, she had turned it purple and it had started making strange noises. It seemed that even with Charlie’s help, or previous help, she had fallen behind on her school work. Usually she had been an okay student, but her grades were not doing well anymore. Despite her best efforts to study in her free time, it seemed that these kind of things needed more experience. Ava was not pleased with these downhill grades. She had liked being in the average grade range, and more than that she wished that she could be in the high grade range. She knew that if this continued, it was possible that she could be held back. She still had to pass her end of the year exams.

She tried to ignore the sinking thought that she would fail her exams, but she couldn’t think of anything else. She sunk onto a bench in the corridors and pulled out a notebook filled with sketches depicting her darkest fears. The cover of the journal may have been pink and sparkly, but the insides were otherwise. She had received this notebook as a gift for christmas from her stepmum, and it had stayed hidden in her trunk until she returned to Hogwarts. The first pages contained drawing of herself as a werewolf, and it could be assumed that these were done sometime before the events that got her shipped off to Azkaban. Ignoring the filled pages in the front of the notebook, she flipped to somewhere in the middle and grabbed a quill and inkwell from her school bag. Students continued to meander by, deep in conversations with friends that she tuned out. She twirled the quill in her hand for a moment before starting to draw a downward view of herself taking the test. The little of her face that you could see in the drawing was panicked, and it could be assumed that picture-Ava didn’t know what she was doing.

Ava was so immersed in the drawing that she didn’t even notice Oliver’s arrival. “Heya V, whatcha drawing there?” She jumped slightly before she realized who was next to her. “Oh. Hi, Oli!” She studied her drawing before answering. “It’s me. Failing our end of the year exams.” She gazed into his eyes for a second before glancing away. Luckily enough for her, he carried the conversation onto another topic. “Wanna have a drawing contest? Lets see, what should we draw? How about an ocean!” He suggested. Her eyes lit up. “Let’s do it! I’m not that great at art, but I’ll try!” She flipped her notebook onto a fresh page near the back. She began to draw, an view of a mermaid peeking out of the water, which she decided was close enough to the theme of ocean. Even though she now knew didn’t exist as they did in stories. Didn’t mean she couldn’t draw them. It was a quick ink sketch, only took about 15 minutes, but she was proud of it. “Alright, on the count of 3, we show each other our drawings, 3, 2, 1!” Ava turned her notebook over so Oliver could see what she had drawn. She loved his drawing, but there was a clear winner in this competition. She could see the amazement in his expression, and a blush warmed her cheeks. “It’s clear who won this challenge! Beautiful drawing V!” Even though he was smiling, she still commented quickly. “I think you’re just saying that.” She leaned over so her shoulder brushed his in a playful shove. He flipped the page and she followed his lead, moving on to the back of the page she had just drawn on. “Hmm, what now? What do you want to draw V?” She shrugged nonchalantly, although she already had an idea of what she wanted to do. “How about we draw each other?”

-----Phantom watched the two from the shadows. She had grown quite fond of Oliver recently. He had the looks and she had been watched him since day one of classes. She watched as they giggled and smiled at each other, she couldn't help but feel a twinge of jealousy like it should be her instead of that girl. That's when she heard “How about we draw each other?” That was her que and also she couldn't take watching them have alone time together.

"Hello, I couldn't help but over hear that you guys were drawing oceans" she said stepping out of the shadow mysteriously. She was now standing in the light mostly but her face was still shadowed. "Well I don't really draw landscapes I draw magical creatures and Mermaids live in the ocean so...." she said as she stepped fully out of the shadows revealing her face. She waltzed over to the pair and plopped in between the two kinda making room for herself. She rummaged in her bag for her sketch book, pulling it out and flipping to the page with a mermaid on it. "See isn't she lovely?" she said holding the book up so Oliver could see.

It was definitely clear who had won the contest. “I think your just saying that.” V said after giving a playful shove. Oliver smiled. It wasn’t true. He did like her drawing a lot! A lot better than his, it was a bit- well plain. He would try again this round! V suggested we drew each other, and Oliver loved the idea! “That’s a great i-“ Oliver started, but he was interrupted. “I couldn’t help but over hear you guys were drawing oceans.” a voice from the shadows said, before she stepped out. It took a while to recognize her since Oliver couldn’t really see her face, then after a while he recognized her as one of his classmates, from transfiguration or charms, he couldn’t remember. She had black hair that was partially dyed green. That was quite rude, he thought to himself. He was going to say something when she spoke again. She stater how she drew magical creatures. Oliver was confused, why was she saying this? Then she squeezed her way between me and Ava, right then, Oliver realized her true motive wasn’t to show off her art work, it was to interrupt them. After a while, she dug in her bag before pulling out a sketchbook. Flipping to the page with a mermaid on it, she held, / shoved it to Olivers face to see. “It’s erm- great. -?” Oliver said before glancing at V. He didn’t like where this was going. “Erm- sorry, me and my friend where having a contest, could you maybe move aside?” He said hopefully, however half of him knew that she wasn’t going to stop here. She was probably going to ask to join it! He started thinking if maybe they could just ignore her, and continue with the contest. He glanced at V, he didn’t know what to do.

Ava loved hanging out with Oliver. It made her happy. It put her in a good spot. A large contrast from her boring class, she would take it. Drawing things that weren’t her feelings was a large contrast. Not a bad one, though. Maybe she would draw something like this again. It was pretty nice.

Oliver was just about to agree to her idea when another girl cut in. "Hello, I couldn't help but over hear that you guys were drawing oceans" She came out from the shadows, leaving Ava wondering just how long she had been watching. It could have been the entire time, it may have been mere seconds. Oddly enough, the girl kept her face in the shadows, giving her a mysterious aura. "Were drawing oceans." She said quietly. "Well I don't really draw landscapes I draw magical creatures and Mermaids live in the ocean so...." Ava nodded, as that was the same conclusion as she had reached. The girl stepped fully out of the shadows and Ava noted her partially dyed hair. She couldn’t help but wonder what color it was before it underwent the color changing. She smirked as she realized Oli and herself could do it without dye. Or at least temporarily. She considered doing it for a moment, but decided it would be rude and may be seen as making fun of the other girl.

She wasn’t planning on doing it, but when the girl sat down right in between Oli and her, she was sorely tempted to do so. Unfortunately, she wouldn’t seem very kind by doing so, which was essentially her new goal. The girl rummaged in her bag until she pulled out a sketch book, and continued to flip to a page containing a drawing of a mermaid. "See isn't she lovely?" The girl asked, shoving it in Oli’s face. “It’s erm- great. -?” Oliver responded, and glanced at Ava, causing a blush it warm her cheeks. Ava said a mumbled quickly after. "sure." Truthfully, it did look good, but Ava didn’t appreciate the girl butting into their alone time. “Erm- sorry, me and my friend where having a contest, could you maybe move aside?” Ava nodded her head. He glanced at her nervously, and she decided to add on. "What’s your name anyway?"
