Snowball to the face

The sunlight splashed golden rays across the pure white snow, covering the ground like grass in a field. Patterns of frost spiralled like dancers across the bark of trees and icicles hung from the branches, reflecting specks of light in shimmering glints across the grounds. The sun was just peaking above the treeline and hardly a single footprint could be seen, testimony to the absence of humans or their destructive forces . . . save for one girl who was hidden behind a large oak, towering above a near-by path, hand loaded with snowballs and pearing round the trunk expectantly, waiting for someone to fire at.
Irina had been up and out of her dormitary as soon as the crisp smell of snow had reached her nose. This was saying something, as she was certainly not a morning person by nature. She had run from the Great Hall in huge excitement, dashing through the grounds (whilst making sure not to damage too much of the fresh snow) until she found the perfect ambush spot.
Irina closed her eyes, breathing in and smiling as the sharp, clean smell of winter stung her nose. She'd been up for around half-an-hour, carefully preparing a large pile of snowballs, ready to launch at the first unsuspecting student to walk by. In her haste to get outisde however, she had forgotten that today was a Saturday at around 7 in the morning, half way through the Christmas Holidays.
'Ugh,' she groaned, slapping her mittened hand to her forehead, 'No one's gonna be out for another few hours!'
She scowled, ready to let her snowball drop when she heard the crunch of footsteps approaching. Excitement rose once more as she peered around the tree-trunk and spotted her victim. She readied herself, counted to 3 and threw the snowball as hard as she could . . . hitting the girl slap bang in the centre of her face.

I don't have a train of thought. I have 7 trains on 4 tracks, all narrowly avoiding each other when the paths cross, all the passengers are screaming and there's that annoyingly calm female conductors voice in the background.

It was in fact a snowy day in Hogwarts, which was located in Scotland, and Hannah knew it snowed a lot when it was winter, since she lived in Glasgow, Scotland, and was very used to the snow. As a matter of fact, the girl was happy it was basically all white.
Hannah had spent most of the day so far in the common room, writing letters to her parents, reading, and she even did a bit of knitting, something that she learned from her Muggle studies, which her mother had taught her. She was making, mittens for herself and for her parents. She also played a bit with her kitten, who she had just adopted, Storm.
Then, it was all getting boring, so she headed to her bedroom and grabbed a warm skiing jacket meant for the snow, and white earmuffs, so she could head outside.
The girl walked around through the large castle, until she reached the Grounds. She was just trying to enjoy her walk, when suddenly, out of nowhere, a snowball came flying, and she could not dodge the attack, slapping her face, right in the middle. "Who did that?!?" she questioned, angry at the attacker.
Without thinking, she grabbed some snow, molded it into a ball (at least attempting to), and looked for the person who had thrown the snowball at her face, and she saw a figure of a person, hiding, behind a tree, and threw the snowball at her face. She didn't miss, but the snowball went instead of her face, the ball reached her shoulder Welp.. didn't reach their face but.. That's fine.. Hannah knew they would probably attack again, so she tried to hide.
May the snowball fight begin she thought. This was going to be fun.

It wasn’t uncommon for it to be snowing in Scotland where Hogwarts was located. But it was uncommon to find two people out in the snow having a snowball fight in the morning at 7AM. I watched from my hiding place behind a bush. It was a good thing I had brought a white jacket, it made it a hundred times easier to hide in the snow.
The first hit was by some girl who I couldn't see clearly from my spot but a Gryffindor from what I could tell. The other person was another girl, who I knew to be Hannah Blossom, one of my friends who I often went to the library with on Saturday nights.
Almost immediately I knew it would be fun to have a snowball fight together. And maybe a chance to make a new friend! Or enemy… I stifled a laugh.
PREPARE FOR ATTACK! I snatched up extra large pieces of snow and rolled it into a ball. One after the other I revealed myself by throwing the two snowballs extra fast at Hannah and the other girl.
‘SMACK,’ they hit their targets pretty well, except the one to Hannah went a bit too high and landed on her head. The other one which was to the other girl went SPLAT on her face.
This was going to be real fun! I started loading up more snowballs because I knew for sure that they would attack me and I would have to be prepared.

Irina recognised her victim. She was a Gryffindor like herself, though they had never actually spoken.
"Who did that?!?" Irina paused for a moment, hearing the girl's angry outburst. Unsure whether to continue or not, she stood awkwardly next to the tree, waiting for any further reaction . . . it was a mistake.
A moment later, a snowball hit her hard in the shoulder, causing her to tumble to the ground. Spluttering, she wiped the snow off of herself before standing up, a new snowball in hand.
"This is gonna be fun," she muttered, drawing back her arm to retaliate. She squinted her eye, aiming for the girl's head as she tried desperately to hide. Just as she was about to throw, a second snowball appeared out of nowhere and hit her hard in the face, causing her to fall to the ground again!
"What the . . . ?" Spitting out snow and ice, she peered through wet strands of hair at a third girl approaching, origionally not seen due to the white coat she was wearing.
Irina grinned cheekily and stood up once more, holding 2 snowballs. She threw one at the new girl but it just missed, flying over her shoulder. "Teaming up, are we?" She yelled across to the two girls, before realising the first girl was also wiping snow from her face.
She giggled, ducking behind the tree and shuffling a few metres to a nearby bush, changing direction to the girls. She then stood quickly and threw the snowball hard, hitting the newcomer's back as she gathered more snowballs. "SCORE!"
As she ducked once more behind the leaves, she shouted over it, "M'name's Irina! Who am I fighting, so I know who I just anhialated!"

The snowball fight continued, until another girl, Reyna Evergreen joined the two girls, she had hit Hannah on her head, and Hannah muttered "Not bad.. not bad" while she made another snowball. This one was for Reyna.
She threw the snowball right at her face "SCORE!" she said. Hannah laughed. The girl made more snowballs, ending up with three. Two she threw at the first girl's face (and she did not miss), the third ball was for Reyna, and she hit the ball on her ear.
Then the girl who started this, then talked. She said "M'name's Irina! Who am I fighting, so I know who I just anhialated!" Silence, no one spoke. Hannah decided to take this chance, she made a snowball, and tried to find this Irina. She found her hiding and spoke "The name's Hannah, Hannah Blossom" and she hit the girl right on her face. Hannah giggled, that probably wasn't fair, but oh well. She didn't care at all. She was the one who started this, after all. And this was a snow fight.
Then, she made more snowballs, hitting them at Reyna. One on her hip, the other on her shoulder, and the other on her face. Ouch! That must have hurt. she thought.

“Ouch!” I exclaimed as a snowball hit me in the face. This one was from the other girl, not Hannah. It hit me on the back.
“SCORE!” The girl shouted. I wondered what her name was.
Just then as I was preparing another snowball, one hit me in the face. “SCORE!” Hannah said. 3 more came at a steady pace. I sighed. Ugghh! Payback time!! I knew though that this pain was going to be worth it. I had 6 more snowballs ready to be thrown.
The first 3 were for the other girl. One hit her in the face, one on her head and one on her stomach. “SCORE!” I said laughing. The next 3 were for Hannah. One hit her in the face, the other totally missed and the other hit her on the head again. I cheered.
Just then the girl who’s name I didn’t know said, “M’name’s Irina! Who am I fighting so I know who I just annihilated!”
There was some silence but I didn’t respond because I was preparing more snowballs. I had a genius idea. I slipped behind a tree and prepared a sneak attack. It seemed like Hannah had the same idea as she gave herself away by sneak attacking Irina.
I grinned. Time to sneak attack them both! I was loaded with 2 snowballs that were decent size. I dropped the snowballs on both of their heads and they yelped in surprise. “And I’m Reyna, Reyna Evergreen. So nice to meet you two!” I said grinning.
And I scampered away laughing. I was definitely going to pay for that. Oh well. It was totally worth it.

Shouts of "SCORE!" echoed across the white grounds, breaking the serene silence that, up until this point, had been wrapping the world in it's quiet embrace.
Irina was pummeled by snowballs from all directions: Two hit her in the face from the first girl that had joined and only a few seconds later, 3 more came from the second girl! Face, head, stomach, Irina fell backwards again, unable to hide the large smile spreading across her face. 'Maybe I should have saved my "Score," until later,' she thought ruefully, ducking behind the tree to make more snowballs. Whilst she was making them, she heard the happy laughing and shouting coming from both girls, accompanied by the muffled thwumps of snowballs hitting something.
After she announced herself, it was clear that it had been a mistake. She had peered out from behind her tree, only to be met once more by a snowball to the face from the girl called Hannah and another one dropped on her head from the girl called Reyna. She yelped in shock, snow dripping into her coat and dripping down her back. "Agh! Cold, cold, cold, cold, cold!" She shouted, jumping up and down as the icy water caused her spine to arch.
Once the feeling had subsided, she snuck over to Hannah with her hands in the air and muttered one word - "Payback?" she inquired, gesturing to Reyna who was now scampering away.
Without waiting for an answer, she scooped up more snow and hurled it at Reyna's back, hitting her square on and causing her to tumble to the floor. She laughed, triumphantly, running over to attack again.

Before Hannah could pick up more snowballs, Reyna had hit her. One hit the girl on the face, the other missed and the other hit her on the head.
She observed as the first girl, Irina, as she said was her name, was hit by Reyna, then the girl scooped up more snowballs and hit them on Reyna. Hannah giggled. This was fun! She couldn't believe this was her first snowball fight.
Back at home, her parents didn't allow her to participate in any "fights", of any type. Including snowball fights, she could build snowman, and play in the snow, but no snow fights. None! This was a rule that she thought was quite unnecessary. Snowball fights were okay. They were fun! Sure, no fights but snowball fights?
The girl made more snowballs. She had made eight. Four for Irina and four for Reyna. Hannah was hidden behind a bush, she threw the snowballs at Irina's face. Two went right in her face, one hit her ear and the other missed.
Next was Reyna, she hit three snowballs in her face, and the other she had missed. I'm really liking this! she thought.
"Score!" she cried as soon as she was done throwing the snowballs at the girls' faces. The girl grinned, she was happy, and thinking of what to do next. She made more snowballs, behind the bush was her "base", so she put the snowballs behind the bush. These were for protection. Hannah stayed behind the bush.

As I scampered away a snowball hit me in the face. This one was from Irina. Then 3 more hit me in the face from Hannah. I groaned. I had fallen to the ground with so many snowballs hitting me. I really needed a base.
Luckily I knew where Hannah’s base was so I would make a base not too far. I found a tree close to theirs but not too close. Snowballs were still flying around.
Shouts of SCORE, echoes across the grounds as I created some more snowballs. 3 for each person and 4 as protection.
The first 3 were for Hannah who had hit me in the face 3 times. Mine were straight on and hit her in the face 3 times. “SCORE!” I yelled. Oops, I think I gave away my base. I laughed. It didn’t really matter anyway.
The next 3 were for Irina. The first two totally missed but the last one came out of nowhere and hit her square on the face. I laughed.
This was soooo funn!!! I was really enjoying this. I never had any siblings and my friend didn't like the cold. My parents were always too busy so I never got the chance to have a snowball fight. This was my first time and I was really having fun!
Except for when you get hit in the face.
I gathered up some more snowballs so I could prepare for the rounds more that were coming at me.

Time flew by almost as quickly as the snowballs. The pristine snow had now been destroyed beyong recognition, replaced by a battlefield of laughter and squeals following the thwack of snowballs. Splodges of snow still remained stuck to the surrounding tree-trunks and small snow walls and piles of snowballs had gradually emerged.
Irina was soaked to the skin, shivering . . . and was struggling to remember a time she had had more fun. She stood quickly from behind her tree base and threw a snowball as hard as she could at Reyna. It was a direct hit but she was immeditately pummeled by 3 more. She wiped the snow from her face with her sodden sleeve (it didn't make much of a difference) before ducking down again.
Looking around herself she found that most of the ground had been scraped completely clean of snow, leaving only flattened grass. 'I reckon we're gonna run out of snow before long . . . or catch hypothermia.'
But she didn't want to go inside yet! Judging by the height of the sun, it had only been an hour. 'What else can we do in the snow.'
A fun idea buzzed into her head and she waved her hands in front of the tree, yelling, "OI!! Do you two wanna quit the snowballs and build a snowman with me?"
