Perhaps it was the ball that had Beatrice settling down in an unused classroom one fine evening after classes to do this. There wasn’t anything untoward about it, but the girl really didn’t need Ravenclaws potions know-it-all to come for her. The ball hadn’t gone as planned, with Hunter or herself. She’d actually trusted him that night. And nothing had happened. For once. No potion mishap, no spellwork. Well, at each other that was. The maze was another story. But it didn’t matter now. The year was almost up, and if reports from home were anything to go by, Bea needed to be ready. The letters were becoming fewer and shorter after Easter, with Ma only mentioning Da and Ella. Nothing about Aunt Maude, although Bea could distinctly remember her nasty conversation with Beas Ma after the funeral.

It wouldn’t do well to dwell on it. Bea would focus on it when Summer came. But for now she would prepare. Setting up the cauldron on the floor in the middle of the room, she heaved her bag full of ingredients up onto the wooden table closest. The room was full of tables and chairs, set up for a class that would be happening another day. Bea rolled up her sleeves, leaving the things she came with to move the unneeded furniture to the far reaches of the room. She needed space to work in.

For once this term, she was glad to be back at Hogwarts. Bea tried and failed to imagine how her mother would react if she saw Bea trying to do a potion. Something had changed after Nan had died. Her mother had tucked all of Nans things away in boxes before barring Beatrice and Ella into their grandmothers bedroom, citing something about a will. Their mother had made sure to seal the room with magic after Ella had tried for the third time to enter the room. Beatrice had been more crafty, instead going to the study to grab her Nans potions books.

Opening one such book now, she started. Notes littered the margins, and Bea felt white hot relief pool in her stomach. Potions wasn’t her worst subject but it definitely wasn’t her favourite. Something to do with her interactions with Ravenclaws’ potions prodigy.

Into the cauldron went the honey, a low flame set at the bottom of the tin apparatus just like Bea had been shown in class. Then the peppermint leaves. Whilst it simmered, Bea finely diced up the shrivelfig. Better to be prepared, her Nan had always said. Since she still had time, she gathered the scarab beetles needed and crushed them into a fine paste. Now that all her ingredients were ready, there was only waiting to do.

It felt weird, doing a potion outside of class. No other students moaning or shrieking that things had gone wrong. No quills quickly stretching against parchment to get notes done before class finished. It was peaceful. Was this why Hunter liked doing it so much? The thought to ask him came and Bea dismissed it quickly. Just because they’d gone to the Ball together did not mean they were friends. Ew no. He was an annoying, self-righteous boy. Bea would not be friends with him.

Looking at her watch, the first fifteen minutes was up. She added in the measure of shrivelfig, stirring it clockwise until it all dissolved. She made sure it was before continuing. Next she chucked in the fluxweed, stirring it three times the other way. Glancing at her book, she grabbed her beetle paste as directed and put that in. Checking to make sure she’d put everything in, she left the potion to simmer for the required time. In the meantime, she gathered everything else so she could put them away. Picking the unused ingredients, she folded them back up into a cloth bag (she was sure Hunter would have something to say mixing ingredients up if he ever found out) and placed them into her satchel. She then cleaned the knife and mortar and pestle with a “Scourgify.” Once she was satisfied they were cleaned, she carefully placed them in her bag. She cringed as she did so, knowing the weight would be heavy on her shoulders to go back up the Ravenclaw Tower. All well. She couldn’t leave her things down here for just anyone to knick.

Checking the time again, she counted down the last remaining minute of simmering. Once the full time had passed, she waved her wand with the required spell, and turned off the heat. Grabbing her empty vials she spooned the potion carefully inside, stoppered them and placed them in her pocket. It would be just her luck they would get crushed against the mortar in her bag. Cleaning her cauldron, she tucked her wand away, picked up the round tin piece and headed to her Common Room. Hopefully dinner would be soon. She was starving now.

Amadea found that brewing potions was a surprisingly calming practice. While there was the constant dull fear in the back of her mind all of the time about messing up a step and creating some horrible never-seen-before potion that would combust, she equated the process to cooking, which she had always enjoyed at home. It was a time for her to be alone with her thoughts while creating something new; Amadea thrived on following instructions so this process did not seem too daunting to her.

Today, Amadea was tackling the Invisibility Potion. She and her friends had used Invisibility Cloaks before, but they never worked perfectly and it required carrying around the fabric that could easily be misplaced, considering that it was, as the name implied, invisible. Therefore, she was determined to figure out an easier way to make herself disappear. Invisibility Potion seemed to be the perfect solution. She tucked her hair behind her ear and looked down at the recipe in front of her. She had begun boiling the chicken about 3 hours ago, so it was time to continue onto the rest of the potion. She grabbed the sponge sitting next to the cauldron and slowly began soaking up the water surrounding the chicken. The instructions had said to conserve the chicken water, so she had grabbed a separate bowl to squeeze the water into as she did not have a multitude of sponges. After continuing the process a few times, the cauldron was dry, with only the boiled chicken inside. Perfect, she thought. Glancing back at the directions to remind herself of what to do next, she quickly scooped the chicken remains out of the cauldron, placing them on the table next to her.

Next, she grabbed a sharp knife, checking that it was clean before slicing the cherries into coarse pieces. Once she had sliced all 6 of them, they went into the cauldron. As Amadea read the next line of instructions, she understood why she had to save the chicken water, even if it seemed a little gross to her. She grabbed the bowl with the water and poured it back into the cauldron, leaving the cherries swimming in the chicken-infested water. She took a spoon and inserted it into the cauldron, making sure that she was stirring in the correct direction: clockwise. "One...two...three," Amadea counted out loud as she moved the spoon, making sure she kept precise count of the number of stirs. She then returned the mixture to heat, waiting for it to reach a simmer and turn a beautiful purple color.

Making this potion was reminding Amadea of why she only cooked and brewed potions on occasion; she felt like she was constantly behind, with new instructions being shoved at her left and right. In reality, she could prepare ingredients before starting a recipe, but she was concerned that doing any preparation would somehow ruin the ingredients and mess up the recipe. So, she was instead subjected to the stress of having to perfectly time her preparation of ingredients with when they were to enter the cauldron. Maybe I'll have to make some sort of anti-stress potion next, Amadea thought to herself ruefully. Perhaps that would make her brewing sessions 100% peaceful and relaxing, without the increasing stress she was feeling. In the amount of time she had spent reflecting on the brewing experience, the potion had turned the correct shade of purple, so Amadea reached over and grabbed a mortar and pestle so she could grind the spider legs into a powder. Once she had done this, she carefully took 2 measures of the powder and poured them into the cauldron. Then, she stirred the mixture once in a clockwise direction. "One!" she counted confidently.

Amadea was nearing the home stretch now. She used the measuring device now to add 3 measures of beetle eyes to the mixture, which subsequently began bubbling. This was a good sign. She carefully added a drop of tincture of demiguise and then clocked the time so she could allow the mixture to simmer for exactly 12 minutes. During the waiting period, she was able to begin some of the cleanup process. Amadea was tired; she had been making this potion for over 4 hours at this point, and she was ready to be finished. She knew she couldn't slack off now, though. Completing every step to perfection was essential in creating a good potion. Once the 12 minutes were completed, the potion had become a silvery color as detailed in the instructions. Amadea smiled to herself as she completed the final step: waving her wand over the cauldron to finish the process. She let out a sigh of relief. She had done it; this would definitely be a memorable day for her.

Potion | Muffling Draught - Steps to creating reference [x]
Ingredients required | 4 Drops of Lethe River Water, 2 Bat Spleens, 2 Eel Eyes, 3 Leeches

Roleplay (200 words min) | (WC: 484)
Clark would find himself in a room he didn't want to spend all his time in necessarily, but solely for the purpose of causing some form of mischief. He recalled a potion he learned about in class. The muffling draught. He knew that he would only need to expose the potion to air and anyone who caught whiff of it would experience the sensation of not being able to use their voice, but their mouth instead. Might be a great way to stab someone in the back- maybe even get an advantage in duelling. If they can't speak, then they can't verbally cast a spell. This was perfect. Clark could find himself doing just that.

So he needed to make the potion before the plans would be set in stone. Approaching his cauldron, he had the ingredients in hand. Lethe River Water, Bat spleens, eel eyes, and leeches. As disgusting as they were, he knew they were necessary.

He picked up the Lethe River Water, grabbed an eyedropper of a sort- whatever those little plastic droppers are called, and squeezed in enough liquid to serve as 4 drops, any extras would be put back in the container it was in. Four drops of Lethe River Water was dropped into the cauldron.

Grabbing a knife, he began to finely dice bat spleens, sparing all but 2. Two bat spleens would be suffering the torment of the blade. Once they were finely diced, he inputted them into the cauldron.

Next up, he stirred the cauldron, stirring in a clockwise motion. He did this twice.

He then turned up the heat, and decided to take a short little rest, as his arms were beginning to hurt from the stirring that he only did twice. Ten minutes passed, and he got back up. He reduced the heat, and grabbed two eel eyes and dropped them into the cauldron. Stirring the opposite direction, he did twice.

Utilizing a mortar and pestle, he found himself putting three leeches into the mortar and using the pestle to smash the nasty little creatures. They became sticky paste in a way.

Now using a spoon, he scooped up the sticky paste of the crushed leeches, and dumped them in the cauldron. He did this three times.

Stirring anti-clockwise, he did so five times.

He turned up the heat just a little bit, allowing the cauldron to heat up a little bit. Again, he took a break for a period of time, 15 minutes. He probably should've left it for longer, but he was lacking patience.

Clark got up, withdrew his wand, and then excitedly waved it over the potion.

It was done. He could stab his enemies in the back, get his revenge- sabotage a duel- and do it all so no one knows what happens. He would just need to spike something edible- like a scone- to use this without people knowing.

Raizel had never tried brewing potions outside of class even though she had great interest in it. She had no reason to at first but after her experiences in Hogwarts, perhaps carrying one or two potions could help her in certain situations, especially from people who are getting on her nerves. Maybe potions could help her in dealing with these… difficult people that she often meets at random. Not to mention, it might even save her if faced with a difficult situation but really, she's mostly brewing this one for those that are difficult to handle or those who just won't shut up and leave her alone.

The potion in the list to be brewed is the Muffling Draught. From what she learned in class, this one can cause whoever inhaled the fumes unable to speak, the perfect potion and exactly what she needs. While she does hope to never use it on something trivial as people who just don't know how to keep quiet and leave her alone, she's pretty much willing to do so for some peace and quiet.

Raizel made her way to the potion classroom as this is the only place that she knows where she could brew potions and she can't be bothered to set up a place to brew somewhere else. Now, time to get started and get things over with. She set up the cauldron, picking up a bottle filled with Lethe River water, adding 4 drops of it into the cauldron. Grabbing a knife, she started dicing up 2 bat spleens into fine pieces before adding them and then stirring the mixture 2 times, clockwise.

She then turned the stove on, setting it on high heat after checking out her potion notes, letting it brew for 10 minutes. While waiting, the Gryffindor looked at the door to the classroom, wondering if other students had also thought of brewing potions for their personal uses before going back into reading the process of brewing a Muffling Draught. Once 10 minutes of brewing was done, she lowered down the heat to let the mixture simmer before adding in 2 eyes of eel. She stirred it 2 times once more but this time, in an anti-clockwise direction before proceeding to grind the 3 leeches using a mortar and pestle, turning them into a sticky paste. She added 3 spoonfuls of it into the mixture then back to stirring she goes, doing it 5 times this time in an anti-clockwise direction.

She let the mixture brew on medium heat, wondering how long she should let it sit as it could be done in 15 minutes. She shrugged and just let it sit for 20 minutes before pulling out her wand, giving it a wave over the cauldron for the finishing touches and then transferring the contents into phials.

Potion | Babbling Beverage
Ingredients required | Poppy, Valerian, Aconite Blossom, Unicorn Hair, Dittany
Roleplay (200 words min) | It was a bright morning and he'd woken up early for once. Maybe it was because of his insomnia, or perhaps it was due to the letter he'd gotten from his parents a few days ago. They'd sent him a package with a number of ingredients inside and told him they wanted him to have all the things he needed to practice his potion making skills. Kim had let out a sigh as he stored the packages at the back of his closet in his room that he shared with one Alec Mason. The boy he called Ali. He'd put it off for a few days but now it was time for him to practice.

He knew his parents would contact him soon and ask if he'd used the ingredients yet and want to know what he'd made. Unfortunately, his mother had a tendency to know when he tried to lie to her. That was why he never did it. Kim also wasn't the kind of person who liked to lie in the first place and tried to almost never do so. He'd never been someone to break his word once given but also never tended to give his word, which helped him out a lot in the end. Might as well do it now. Kim picked up his enchanted satchel and started to place items into it that he would be using soon.

It was a good time to do it anyway, as it was the start of the new school year. He didn't have much homework or club meetings. The white haired teen placed his collapsible cauldron into the satchel and then searched for the other items he'd need for the first potion he was going to brew. He'd decided on making the Babbling Beverage this time. If he had time left over he'd do another one. But for now he'd focus on just this one. This one was an ingestion and contact type of potion. It required five different types of ingredients but at least this potion didn't need a different cauldron.

1 Dried Poppy Head, 2 Valerian Sprigs, 3 Aconite Blossoms, 1 Unicorn Hair, and 1 Sprig of Dittany. Those were the ingredients for this particular potion. Kim placed each of the ingredients inside his satchel and quickly looked up the brewing instructions inside his Potions book. Mortar and pestle. Check. Cauldron. Check. Stirrer. Check. Protective Gloves. Check. Wand. Check. Kim's wand was stuck through his waistband at the moment for easy access. Putting the strap over his shoulder, the teen headed out of his room and out into the hallway. Kim made his way down the flight of stairs.

He continued to descend down flights of stairs until he eventually reached the basement. Kim was relieved to see that he was the only one in the room at the moment, which meant blissful peace for him. Relaxing a bit more, Kim set his satchel down and took out the cauldron, setting it down into its place. Removing the ingredients and necessary equipment, he placed the former on a nearby table and the latter on a different table. It was best to separate the two, just in case of accidents. Taking out his Potions book, he laid it out on the ingredients table, propping it open just a little bit.

Glancing at it, Kim placed 1 dried poppy head into the mortar and ground it up into a powder with the pestle. Adding the powdered content into the cauldron, Kim took 2 valerian sprigs and added them too. He picked up his stirrer and stirred the mixture 3 times, counter-clockwise. Glancing at the book again, Kim went over to his satchel and removed a pair of protective gloves. Putting them onto his hands, he added 3 aconite blossoms into the cauldron. Placing the gloves down, he withdrew his wand and waved it over the contents. He could see the mixture try to come together.

But it failed to do so completely. However, that was to be expected as according to the Potions book, it stated that it would take around 30 minutes to brew. Kim went back over to the table he'd put his satchel down on, which was next to the ingredients table and the equipment table. Removing his sketchbook from the satchel, Kim started to sketch the room to pass the time. 30 minutes later, the white haired teen not only had a lovely sketch done of the Potions room but his potion was about done too. He made his way over to the cauldron and all of the contents inside it.

It looked nice. Now for the remaining steps! Kim added 1 unicorn hair to the cauldron to neutralize the poison in the cauldron's contents. He stirred the mixture 3 times clockwise. Then, he looked back at the book again to double check on the last few steps. Returning his attention to the brew, Kim added 1 sprig of dittany to the cauldron and stirred the mixture 5 times, counter-clockwise. At last, he waved his wand over the brew to complete the potion and stood back to see the results. It looked beautiful to him and he knew he'd done it correctly as it was a lovely red. Oh, what a relief.

Kim waited for the brew to cool off a little and then poured it into 3 vials. Once he'd completed the potion and it was safely stored into the 3 vials, he placed them into his satchel for safekeeping and checked the time. He needed to go do the rest of his homework before lunchtime. So he'd come back later after lunch and do another potion. If all went well, he'd be able to do all of them today and be able to tell his parents about it soon. The last thing he wanted was to get a Howler, asking him why they hadn't heard what potions he'd brewed with the ingredients they'd sent him earlier.

Potion | Burn Healing Paste
Ingredients required | Murtlap Tentacles, Seaweed, Honey, Flobberworm Mucus, Dittany
Roleplay (200 words min) | It was the following day after Kim had brewed the Babbling Beverage potion. He hadn't had time to do any other potions yesterday and had only just gotten back to the basement this afternoon. But at least his parents hadn't sent a letter or worse a Howler to him. Which meant he still had some time. Plus, he could hold them off a bit if he told them about the Babbling Beverage he'd cooked up the other day. Today, Kim was going to make some Burn Healing Paste, something that seemed as if it would be very useful to many students at Hogwarts.

Especially duelists, as one of the most popular spells to be cast during duels were fire related. Gia's own favorite spell was Incendio Duo and this Burn Healing Paste would come in handy if someone got hit by her attack. A sigh escaped his lips as he thought about clubs and homework. There wasn't just those two things to worry about either, he also had dueling to think about too. Sometimes Kim wondered what he'd be doing if he didn't take on so much responsibility. He wouldn't be a Sato then.... But was that really so bad? What if he wasn't a Sato and just a normal pureblood wizard???

He tried to ignore his thoughts and focused on the potion he wanted to make. Taking out the ingredients and equipment, Kim set them both down on two different tables. Just as he'd done before. Puffie wasn't with him because he didn't want an accident to happen and have him suffer for it. Not being with him made Kim feel weird though, it was a strange feeling and he tried not to think about it. When he was done brewing, he'd go back and cuddle Puffie until he felt better. This one was a contact potion as it was a solution that was applied to your body where the burns were.

3 murtlap tentacles, 4 spoonfuls of crushed seaweed, 1 jar of honey, 2 measures of flobberworm mucus, and 1 sprig of dittany. Those were the ingredients to make Burn Healing Paste. Kim set the cauldron into place and added 3 murtlap tentacles to it. Picking up the knife, he made his way over to an empty table and started to chop the seaweed into small pieces as the instructions stated. Picking up the pieces, he added them to the mortar and used the pestle to crush them into a paste. Once he had enough for one spoonful, he added it into the cauldron, keeping up a careful count.

Kim repeated this step until he'd added a total of 4 spoonfuls into the cauldron. Then, he used a stirrer to stir the mixture 3 times clockwise. He set it to high heat and waved his wand over the contents. Kim checked his Potions book and then headed back to his seat to pick up a book. Keepers of the Lost Cities was a book that Bailey had started up a club for and Kim hadn't read it yet. This was a great time to try and get caught up there. After all, he did have 25-40 minutes until he needed to do the next step. Time passed by really fast as he read and soon it was time to finish.

Glancing at the Potions book, Kim turned the heat off completely and looked into the cauldron. He added 1 jar of honey to the mixture and stirred 2 times, clockwise. Turning the heat on again, he set it on low heat and let the potion sit for 10 seconds. Looking back at the Potions book again, Kim made his way back to the cauldron and added 2 measures of flobberworm mucus to the mixture. Using the heat, while occasionally stirring clockwise, Kim repeated this step until the potion reached a thick paste-like consistency. Once this step was accomplished, he turned off the heat....

And added a single sprig of dittany. When the dittany dissipated into the mixture, he waved his wand over the potion, which had now become a lovely paste. Done! Kim picked up 4 airtight jars he'd brought with him and stored the paste into each jar for later use. He'd originally intended on doing a few more potions but Kim felt kind of beat now and decided to go take a nap before his club meeting later on that afternoon. Stifling a yawn, Kim packed his things up and headed up to the dorm. He needed to store these jars in a safe location, along with the Babbling Beverage potions.

Potion | Dogbreath Potion
Ingredients required | 3 Fluid Ounces of Fire Whiskey, 3 Bat Spleens, 1 Fire Seed, 1 Valerian Root
Additional note | This potion does not require a fire.
Roleplay (200 words min) | The day after he'd brewed the Burn Healing Paste, Kim returned to the basement of the castle. It was time to do his third potion. Tomorrow would be the last one he'd do and then he'd be set and could write to his parents letting them know what he'd done. He didn't want to have a face-to-face through the fireplace because they would be able to see his expressions too. Writing a letter was safer for him. Currently, he'd already made some Babbling Beverage and Burn Healing Paste, the latter being useful and the former not as useful for the teen.

But it was fun to make at any rate and he was sure eventually he'd find a use for it. Or he'd just donate it to the hospital wing, who could probably find something to do with the potion. Today's potion he'd be brewing was something he'd most likely use and he fully intended on keeping it with him. It was the Dogbreath Potion that he would be making today, which had a lovely effect when ingested by the drinker. Maybe he'd make more of it later on. But for now, having a variety of potions on him was better than just a stockpile of one. A sigh escaped his lips as he stifled a yawn.

The white haired teen went through the same setup as he'd done the previous two days. Dogbreath Potion called for 3 fluid ounces of fire whiskey, 3 bat spleens, 1 fire seed, and 1 valerian root. It was one of the few potions that did not require a fire, which was rather nice. It probably had to do with the fact that the ingredients were fire-related. Kim added 10 fluid ounces of water to the cold cauldron. Then, he moved over to chop up 3 bat spleens and added them to the cauldron when they were done. Picking up the stirrer, Kim stirred once, clockwise. He looked at the open Potions book.

Ah, it was time for the fire seed. These were delightful things. Kim had always loved how they looked and how they provided their own source of fire... He picked up the pair of protective gloves he'd brought with him and using the gloves was able to transport the fire seed safely to the cauldron and added it to the mixture. Kim waited for 5 minutes, while the fire seed brought the contents of the cauldron to a boil. This was the reason why no extra fire was needed to brew this particular potion... Glancing over at the Potions book, the boy stirred the contents once, clockwise.

He poured 3 fluid ounces of the fire whiskey into a ladle and slowly incorporated it into the mixture. The ladle was important to use because it would help protect the brewer from accidental splashes. Kim stirred slowly, clockwise, until the surface of the potion began to burn with a blue flame. There we go! He quickly removed the ladle and waved his wand over the cauldron. It was almost done now. Glancing back over at the Potions book, he read a few lines and then returned to the cauldron again. Kim waited for 120 seconds for the mixture to burn a bit longer in the cauldron.

In the meantime, Kim chopped up the valerian root into fine cubes and once the time had been reached, added the diced root to the mixture inside the cauldron. He stirred the contents 2 times, anti-clockwise. The potion had stopped burning at this point, which was a good sign, as if it hadn't, that would have meant he'd done something wrong in one of the earlier steps. Kim waved his wand over the cauldron to complete the potion and then looked down into it to see if it was the right color. Yes, it was! The potion was now a beautiful shade of purple, the exact color of a Dogbreath.

Perfect. Kim bottled it into 2 vials and stored it inside his satchel for safekeeping and gathered his things together, placing them back into their respective areas. Glancing around his 'station', the white haired teen raised his wand and pointed it at the area. "Scourgify!" He exclaimed and the area he'd been working at instantly became clean again. Kim didn't like leaving messes around and if he saw some, he tended to always go over and clean them up, even if he wasn't the one responsible. As for the cauldron, he always cleaned it inside his dorm room, after brewing potions.

Why didn't he do it directly after he was done with it? Kim wasn't entirely sure, he just felt better if he cleaned it inside his room. That is, unless he was making multiple potions at a time. Then, he cleaned it directly after each use. After all, it was important to always have a clean cauldron before brewing any kind of potion inside it. Even the slightest difference could end up making a potion go bad, especially if there were vestiges of other potions inside the cauldron while you were trying to brew up a different potion. They had learned that in Potions class before, during their first year.....

Potion | Muffling Draught
Ingredients required | Lethe River Water, Bat Spleens, Eel Eyes, Leeches
Roleplay (200 words min) | Today was the last day of brewing potions! Kim was relieved that it had finally come to an end at long last and he didn't have to worry anymore. It wasn't because he didn't like brewing potions, it was more along the lines of he didn't want to get bothered by his parents. Once he finished today, he'd write a letter to them and include pictures of the items he'd brewed too. Today's potion was going to be a very popular one. Muffling Draught was something lots of wizarding folk liked to use. So it would definitely come in handy at some point in time later.

Once again, Kim set up his station the way he'd done the previous three days and when he was ready, he looked at the open Potions book for a few seconds. Putting the cauldron down in its place, Kim gathered all the ingredients together. This one called for 4 drops of Lethe River water, 2 bat spleens, 2 eel eyes, and 3 leeches. He added the 4 drops of Lethe River water to the cauldron. First step was done. Moving over, Kim finely diced 2 bat spleens and then added them to the cauldron as well. He picked up the stirrer and stirred 2 times, clockwise. Next, he looked back over at the book.

Ah, time to let things brew. Kim set the cauldron's mixture on high heat and then left it to brew for 10 minutes. During that time, he started to read more of the Keepers of the Lost Cities book. He needed to get further in the book or he would get left behind at the club. The white haired teen reduced the heat to a low simmer when time was done and added 2 eel eyes to the concoction in the cauldron. He stirred 2 times, anti-clockwise and then went over to one of the tables. There, Kim added 3 leeches to the mortar and used the pestle to grind them into a sticky paste. Ewww, sticky...

He added 3 spoonfuls of the paste into the cauldron and stirred 5 times, anti-clockwise. Glancing back over at the book, Kim set the cauldron on medium heat and left it to brew for 15-45 minutes. During that time he read more of the book for the club. Once the time had been reached, he looked down at the mixture and nodded a little. Taking out his wand, Kim waved it over the cauldron to complete the potion and waited for a few seconds. Once the potion had settled and finally became ready to use, the white haired teen carefully and gingerly poured the concoction into a set of 2 vials.

Placing it into his satchel, he gathered up the ingredients and equipment and stored them too. Cleaning up the area with the Cleaning Charm, Kim headed back to his dorm to clean his cauldron and store the potion he'd just made. Once he was back, he'd start to write a letter to his parents and take a picture of the potions he'd brewed, so they wouldn't try and send him a Howler or try to contact him about it. And then he would be free again to go about his business without having the stress of his family looming over him. A sigh escaped the boy as he walked up out of the basement...

This was decidedly not how Avery had planned to spend her Saturday afternoon. The first year rolls her shoulders with a slight wince as she waits for the cauldron before her to heat, the flames flickering beneath providing a comfortable warmth. It'd been a particularly brutal week of practice this past week. The suspiciously bludger-shaped bruises stood as a testament of their own. While a trip to the nurse would have likely worked just as well, the Hufflepuff could readily admit she could do with some more practice when it came to cobbling together potions of her own. The art of potion-making was fascinating in its own right regardless, even if she'd not quite managed to get the hang of the patience side of the practice just yet.

Humming softly under her breath as she gathers the 3 Murtlap Tentacles set to the side, she quickly adds them when 10 minutes finally passes. They're quickly followed by an entire jar of honey. Avery retrieves the nearby ladle to stir the honey covered tentacles 5 times clockwise. She does her best to try and not think about how gross the current contents of the cauldron kind of are. Leaving the ladle resting against the edge of the cauldron, she shifts the cauldron off the flame with the help of some protective pads. A small bowl of already measured Bubotuber Pus is retrieved, the 2 fluid ounces immediately added to the growing concoction. The ladle is retrieved once more and the contents are stirred with another 3 rotations, counter-clockwise this time.

Avery pauses a moment to consult the open book beside her, finger trailing down the text to find what she's looking for. Nodding to herself, the cauldron is returned to the fire. She retrieves her wand from her robes and gives it a quick wave in the direction of the brewing potion before tucking it away once more. The heat is lowered and the time is noted. Hands on her hips, she steps back with a sigh. Now for the worst part of the process. Waiting.

Never one to deal well with idle time, Avery instead turns her attention to getting the rest of the ingredients prepared. 6 seashells are gathered and tossed into a mortar before she spends the time dutifully crushing them with the accompanying pestle. Once the last of the chunks are crushed into a fine powder, the shells are set aside. The Flobberworm Mucus is retrieved and 2 measures are added to a small bowl to sit beside the shells. The grimace at the texture of the mucus is hard to hide. Checking the time, Avery sighs and rests her elbows atop the table to stare absently at the cauldron.

It's a wonder that she managed to stay awake, but when the full 60 minutes are finally up she's already chomping at the bit to continue. The seashell powder is added first, 3 pinches carefully measured and sprinkled around. The Flobberworm Mucus is added immediately after. Avery retreives the ladle with a nervous air of anticipation and begins slow, off and on clockwise stirs of the potion. She'd screwed up enough potions before to build a healthy anxiety about the home stretch.

Once the consistency is as close to what's described as thick and paste-like as she could imagine, Avery pulls her wand out once more and gives another mid-air wave at the cauldron. The rest of her supplies are set aside and the heat is turned off. She retrieves and sets aside a small jar as the paste continues to cool. Some nervous foot tapping and hand hovering later, the first year finally deems the potion cool enough. The concoction is ladled into the nearby jar and dutifully sealed off. Avery examines the contents with a bright smile. That wasn't so bad at all. Mostly.

With the schoolyear ending, Opeila had made a decision. One she had been pondering over for weeks, one that kept her up at night. Although unsettling, it felt good to have made it and she did not intend to turn back. All that remained now was to prepare. Duelling training forced her to practice her spells regularly, what she didn't have, was potions. Opeila had never managed to warm up to the subject, but she was no longer the little first year who saw poison in every water jug.

It was time to shake off her discomfort and do what had to be done.
Opeila had made sure to gather ingredients, purchased some in Hogsmeade, sent a few orders to Diagon Alley- she even stole some honey from the Hogwarts breakfast table- to get ready. There were a few potions she wanted to brew and too little time to do it in potions class.

One she managed to squeeze into classtime was the Antidote to Common Poisons- considering the amount of time she had been cursed, no one would find her choice of potion weird, right?

The young Slytherin found herself a quiet corner in the classroom and laid out her supplies and ingredients. Checking the instructions from her book again, she rolled up her sleeve and dropped the bezoar into the mortar before beginning to crush it with her pestle. It was a somewhat satisfying task and Opeila made sure to do it thoroughly.

Softly murmuring the instructions written in her book out loud, she placed 4 measures of it, along with 2 measures of the prepared standard ingredient in her cauldron. One eye on her watch, Opeila turned up the heating to medium for five seconds, then waved her wand over it. With another glance at her watch, Opeila began to tidy up, once again reading over the instructions. This was a first year potion, so it wasn't supposed to be much of a challenge to her but sometimes... she just lacked the confidence to try it by herself.

And oh, how she loved absolutely clear instructions such as "30-40 minutes". Opeila decided to finish the potion after 35. With her left hand she added a pinch of unicorn horn and immediately stirred two times clockwise with her right. Two mistletoe berries followed and Opeila stirred anti-clockwise, two times again.

With a deep breath, Opeila waved her wand over the potion. The colour looked fine, so... maybe this was actually going to turn out alright.
