If I am right, you are wrong when you say I am wrong pv Amaris

Well, well, Cassie is back at the library again. This is definitely her favourite place to do her homework. She is now back at the library, doing Herbology, one of her favourite subjects of all.
The library is not crowded as usual, instead, it's easy to find an empty seat. She sits down, and puts the things she need on the desk-- the Herbology textbook, her notes, her quill, her ink and some parchment.
She spreads the parchment on the desk, takes out her quill and dips it in ink. She takes a deep breath and starts to write. The questions are not very difficult, and she is confident that she will do well in this Herbology homework as usual-- she always gets an O.
After a while, Cassie starts to hum her favourite song quietly. Just then, she meets a question labeled need extra research. It's true, for she can't find the answer either in her textbook or in her notes. So, she stands up and walks to the shelves to find a Herbology book.
She walks to the Herbology section, and starts to choose. She opens a book, no, it's not the one she wants.
She sees someone walking to her desk, and sits down, but she just continues choosing.

wrong, wrong, wrong.

funny, that was the sound that large clock near amaris' home made. three wrongs meant three o'clock in the morning. at night, after 8pm, the clock would stop ringing, and begin once more at 8am. this meant amaris had never heard the sound of 'wrong, wrong, wrong'. thankfully, no one had ever said those words to her either. amaris was a perfectionist at heart; she could never be wrong, or at least could never be so wrong that one had to repeat the word thrice.

unfortunately, what was most embarrassing was to point out another's fault when actually you are wrong, not the other person. not only does this prove that you are, in fact, not as good as the other person, but it also punches back one's pride and dignity. thankfully, amaris had never experienced this before. well, before today. this suddenly reminded her of something: the instance with elspeth and lucia fox. elspeth had pointed out that lucia was wrong, when she was correct. lucia had almost disagreed to become amaris' friend because of lucia's grudge with elspeth, but amaris encouraged elspeth to apologise.

of course, this instance won't end with 'happily ever after'. amaris knight and cassie jiang were destined to become foes, no matter how hard they tried.

amaris' day was quite normal. it consisted of, surprise surprise, lot's of homework. herbology had never been amaris' forte, but she decided to tackle it first none the less. the herbology professor was a blonde and seemingly quite young witch, nancy mcloughlin. of course, being her student, amaris was acquainted with the professor, but they had never been particularly close. amaris was an average herbology student, meaning professor mcloughlin never had any reason to specially praise or help her.

she vaguely remembered having class with a girl by the name of cassie jiang, who sometimes wore her hair dyed blue, or sometimes a light brown that was almost blonde. she was a stereotypical ravencalw, amaris supposed. and really now, she saw the difference between cassie and herself, and how she was not actually a ravenclaw. no, she was a gryffindor, inside and out. it became obvious when there was someone amaris could compare herself to.

amaris did not know this cassie very well, only that she was excellent in herbology and always received an o, compared to amaris' e. but amaris did not respect her; instead, she was utterly annoyed by the girl. she was a teachers' pet and seemingly quite spoilt. she always believed herself to be correct, carrying herself with the utmost confidence and moreover, arrogance. cassie was probably nice, but only if you agree that she was correct. of course, this was all amaris' own opinion, which she kept to herself -- for now, but not for long.

as amaris strode into the library, hoping to return a book she borrowed for herbology homework. as she reached the herbology section, she noticed a girl searching for a book at the same spot. 'might this be what you're looking for? i had to borrow it for herbology homework. hopefully it did not inconvenience you?' amaris asked politely. her uncle had taught her to keep her head up in such a situation: after all, she wasn't wrong to borrow a book. yet her parents had taught her to not just be polite no matter what, but also to be meek. get others to underestimate you. only then can you get under them. that was what father always said, but amaris found that to be too treacherous to her liking. instead, she was like her mother, genuinely polite.

yet what she did not notice at first was the girl's identity. as amaris stepped closer to the ravenclaw, she realised that the girl was in fact, cassie jiang herself. amaris glanced at cassie disgustedly, before thrusting the book into her hands. 'take it. i mean oh, do you not want it? maybe you're so smart you don't even need to do research right?’ she remarked sarcastically. this was probably unfair, seeing as cassie hadn't done anything to annoy amaris today -- yet.

realising that cassie was a top student in herbology, amaris quickly glanced at her homework, hoping to copy down an answer to a question she was unsure about. her eyes gleamed as she realised the answer. it was so simple, yet she didn't think of it. amaris cursed herself inwardly for not thinking of the answer. just as she was about to praise cassie, the gryffindor stopped herself. yeah, amaris, keep your head up. you don't like her, and you don't have to, why not sabotage her? stab at her pride and arrogance for once. she needs to learn some humility.

amaris took a deep breath to calm herself. she wasn't cunning! she wasn't a slytherin at all! how could she do this to another student? maybe amaris did respect cassie's scores. maybe she was just jealous. lashing out on someone because they're better than you was a horrible thing, and amaris just wasn't prepared to become a horrible person.

don't worry, amaris. just teach the girl a lesson. you'll be fine.

her brain was in chaos, fighting a civil war.

'that answer is incorrect,' amaris snickered, pointing to a question, without even stopping to consider her actions and their consequences.

Cassie looks at the girl next to her. She is a Gryffindor first year, she is sure, though she doesn't know what her name is. As she is borrowing a book, this girl with black hair comes to her and says some words. These words do let Cassie feel uncomfortable. Really, uncomfortable. She knows that many people are not getting along well with her. Actually, to be honest, who will like a girl always raising her hand so high and always having better grades than her. 'Oh, you think I don't need a book to help?' she says, sounding cold and elegant. 'Well, I know I can still get good grades with just my notes. However, a book can always help me do better, I bet you are clear with this aren't you?'

She is a bit angry, why is she saying this to Cassie just because she has good grades? Well, true, that girl's grade is never going to be better than hers. Just then, the girl points out a mistake in Cassie's homework. She is shocked. How can I be wrong? If I am really wrong, how embarrassed I will be! She quickly looks the question over again. Well, luckily, Cassie is correct. I am going to teach this girl a lesson, she thinks. 'Oh, you say I am incorrect? Well, I don't think so. I bet the answer is obvious after listening to the lesson isn't it? The appearance of this herb is taught on the class isn't it? Did you listen carefully?'

TW: The F-word and the D-word are both used in this RP frequently. While the former has been censored to just the initial and the last letter, the latter has not.

What had she done? What was she doing? Her mind was a spiraling mess, in and out and in and out. This was such a sour move. It was a mistake. It was terrible. It was wrong. Amaris was a Christian, though perhaps nonpractising, yet how could she act so sinful? Not only that, Amaris was a Gryffindor. She was supposed to be noble and glorious; not to stoop to Slytherin's level. But, oh f**k the trouble had already begun. She could really do nothing more. Her body was fighting- fighting against her brain. It was as if- during the years with Harold- she had been changed. A different person. A different mind. A different body.

F**k. 'Of course I know that,' Amaris began. Her brain wanted to tell Cassie how sorry she was, but her body, her damn mouth, just wasn't listening. Her body told herself to continue. Just roast this f**king girl. Don't worry about the consequences. Damn. 'Of course I'm clear with that,' she restated. 'And, you know what? That's all you damned Ravenclaws are useful for: studying. Let me tell you, Cassie Jiang, I had wanted to be a Ravenclaw- a long, long time ago. But things have changed, and now I've realised something important: you lot are useless. You bury your heads in books all day, but what does this give you?: nothing but a clogged up brain. Are you really any use? In a fight? In a duel?'

It had went against all her beliefs to talk like that. But this was one of the rare occurrences where she didn't care. Her fight with Lucious had been fairly civil in the beginning, with clever taunts at the most before all hell broke loose, before Amaris threw that damn pastry at Lucian. God, her life was horrible. An evil grin spread across Amaris' face and it felt like something she just could not control. Damnit. Her body started to feel hot, as if a fever was hitting her. What had happened? What was going on? Why did she so suddenly and so... sharply, change? 'We could always try,' she remarked dryly.

She (or whatever Amaris had become) felt pity for Cassie after hearing the Ravenclaw's retaliation. A laugh that could not have been described as anything than north of cruel escaped her normally pristine and clean mouth. 'You think I said you were wrong because you actually were wrong? Do you honestly think I care that much about you? Little girl,' she said flatly and allowed herself to pause before continuing, 'You see? This is what the Ravenclaw's teach you. You say you're such a smart house, but really your book-smarts are no use. You can't even see that everything I say is for sarcastic effect. You might know your vocabulary, but you don't know anything practical, do you? Of course I listened, but Ravenclaw isn't making you smarter, it is making you even more stupid. Look at Mrs. Granger. She's the Minister of Magic and the Hat chose Gryffindor over Ravenclaw. That's because she was street-smart, not just book-smart.'

That was pretty long, to be frank. 'Go learn some useful stuff.'

Cassie looks at the girl, yes, she is just looking, not staring. She can tell that this Gryffindor girl has understood her mistake. After all, Cassie is right and she is wrong. She waits, waits to see what the girl will say.

To her surprise, instead of admitting her mistake, the stupid Gryffindor girl starts to say something else, say something bad about Cassie's house, Ravenclaw. This, for Cassie, is intolerable, unforgivable. 'Oh, yes,' she says, sounding casual, 'we study for a long time every day. Yes, for better grades. We don't want to be like someone, someone who only knows how to duel but fails her OWLs, NEWTs. Who says Charms and DADA is everything? I don't want to perform badly in my exams and be useless, like someone.' She gives an evil smile. 'If your grades are like rubbish, you will only be even more of a rubbish if you know how to duel.' she says, giving yet another evil smile.

'Alright, miss Amaris Knight. Well, I do remember you from the sorting ceremony. If you realized you were the one answering the question wrong, why don't you admit it? Doesn't Gryffindor teach you how to be brave? And, do you need someone to teach you the definition of useful, miss Knight? And, I warn you, I can fight, I only didn't yell or fight because Ravencla teaches us to be kind to everyone, and think wisely before we move. But I warn you, miss Amaris Knight,' she says, harshly, staring at her, 'do not try to say anything bad of my house, Ravenclaw again.' she says word by word.

Amaris just stood there like an idiot.

She didn't know what was going on; she just didn't understand that primal part of her that wanted to fight Cassie Jiang. Cassie was an upperclassman, achieving grades much higher than Amaris. Why must she be jealous? Why must she unleash her anger and hate on herself onto this helpless girl? Those were good questions, but Amaris had no good answers. What would Elspeth think if she saw Amaris like this- like a monster? What would she do? Those were good questions too, and this time Amaris had answers.

She felt a body brush by her hurriedly. Forgetting what she was saying to Cassie, Amaris glanced back and said, 'Watch y-'. She didn't finish the sentence though, as she realised the girl looking back at her was Elspeth. The Ravenclaw's gaze flickered over the scene. After she determined the cause of the commotion she nodded at Amaris for her to check her pocket. Amaris did as she was told and produced a note. With an encouraging nod from Elspeth, she began reading it to herself.

Mari,

I've seen everything. Meet me in the Small Hall and we can talk about what just happened.

Ellie.

Amaris' gaze flickered to Cassie. She knew that she had to change her behaviour in front of her cousin. Elspeth was one of Amaris' best friends, yet as the days went by, she felt that her other friends at Hogwarts were more like family than Elspeth. What should she do? Amaris did not want to admit that panic tinted her heart. From the side of her eye, she saw Elspeth slip away, starting to mingle with some other Ravenclaws. She was giving Amaris space to be herself, and she appreciated that.

'Ms. Jiang,' She said finally, her voice a tad bit more shaky than she would have preferred. One part of her still thought Cassie's replies were pathetic, yet the other part just told the previous one to shut up. If you asked Amaris though, she was certainly not agreeing with the latter. It was obvious, this was a pointless fight. She was fighting with an idiot, even though she was an acclaimed Ravenclaw. This could go on forever with no useful arguments made. 'Don't you dare cross me. But at the same time, don't you dare waste my precious time.'

She could apologise. She would have apologised.

'Go back to your studying, and I'll learn some useful stuff.' Amaris stepped hurriedly out of the dusty Hogwarts library, and did not look back.

Cassie stands in the library, alone, as that Gryffindor girl rushes away. From her eyes and emotions, Cassie can tell that she wants to apologize for her rude behaviours. But she didn't actually, by just saying two other sentences, in a calmer voice. Cassie has calmed down as well, and she is thinking about why this all happens and is it, with slightest possibility, able to turn these two foes to friends? Who knows?

Cassie walks away, and returns to her homework. She realizes she cannot focus on her homework any longer, even if it is the easiest one. She doesn't know why, well, she hasn't truly proved her correctness yet. But might there be another reason? Who knows? Maybe only time will tell.

She decides to go for a walk or chat with her friends before getting back to her homework. She needs some refresh. So she collects her books and quills. And walks out of the library slowly. She looks around, other students are back to their study, not seemed to be disturbed by there quarreling.

She walks out, the sun shines on her, making her a bit warm. She knows the victory of this quarrel, but why, she doesn't have that happy feeling?
Cassie leaves the thread. Thread finished and locked.
