Akina came back from the library, holding two ancient looking books in her hand. She looked around absentmindedly at the other people, chatting loudly. No spots were left, except for one all the way on the edge of the Gryffindor Table, which was right behind the Hufflepuff one.

Silently, she ate, thinking about what had happened today. It was simply just a normal day, full of many visits to the library. She had a few friends, if you considered them friends, but they were either in a different house or sitting at a different table. She swallowed the steak slowly, wanting to get back to the library. Would anyone notice if I just...left? she thought, glancing around at the talkative people around her.

Akina let her mind and thoughts wander for a bit. She found herself thinking about the magnificent architecture of the room. Looking up at the high ceiling, she saw the ceiling dotted with stars. The more you looked at it, the more it looked real, but every student knew that it was a fake ceiling that resembled the outside sky. Whoever had built this place probably must been a wise astronomer, Akina thought. On the walls, there were many painting who were either eating or also warmly interacting with the students. It was going to be a quiet and lonely dinner, and it was fine that way.

After a long and tiring day of finishing an endless amount of homework, Josephine strolled down the stairs and into the Great Hall to have dinner. But honestly, she’s not even one bit in the mood. She’d rather just have a peaceful walk around the school or chat with some of her friends (not that she has much though).

As she walked into the Great Hall, she looked around, searching for an empty seat by the Ravenclaw table to sit down and have dinner. However, she can’t spot any empty seat by her house’s table at the moment, but she did indeed notice an empty seat at one end of the Gryffindor table. Is it appropriate for me to go and sit at another house’s table? Josephine though hesitantly. Eventually, she still decided to give it a try, or else she doesn’t have any idea how long she’s going to have to wait until someone in Ravenclaw leaves his or her seat.

Slowly, she walked over to the edge of the Gryffindor table, and spotted a girl who’s having dinner alone. She seems sort of lonely. Josephine thought, but she can’t be sure. “Excuse me, may I sit here?”

A polite, “Excuse me, may I sit here?” interrupted Akina's drifting thoughts. She looked up to see a girl standing above her. Judging from her robes, she was a Ravenclaw. Again, Akina's heart heaved with jealousy. Akina belonged in Ravenclaw. Like, belonged, belonged. But where did she end? In bold, daring Gryffindor. Akina was nowhere near bold and daring. She liked to call herself intelligent.

Sit here? Here? This is a Gryffindor Table, Akina thought angrily. No. Stop being so mean just because you're jealous. Akina remembered that another Gryffindor who went by the name Rhys, had a friend from another house sit at the Gryffindor Table. "Yeah. It's fine," Akina said, trying to not show the lingering coldness from her voice.

Akina felt very uncomfortable. There was a girl. Sitting next to her. Who was in a different house. Even worse, the one she desired to be in. What should I do? Akina thought overdramatically. Kick her out? No...just make friends with her or something... "Uh-hi. My name is Akina Briarwood. I uh- think I've seen you before," Akina said, sounding like an automatic robot. It sounded dumb even in her head. Akina examined her for a bit. The girl looked so, so proud to be in Ravenclaw. Akina's felt a flicker of jealousy in her stomach again.

Josephine was quite relieved to hear that the other girl allowed her to sit at the Gryffindor table, yet she also sensed a slight coldness in her tone. Maybe I was just mistaken, why would she dislike me when we don’t even know each other at all? She tried to reassure herself that she was just overthinking, but she still can’t shake the thought off. “Thanks!” She said, and sat down, somewhat worrisome.

None of them spoke for a while, and Josephine noticed that the other girl had a conflicted expression on her face, as if wondering what to do next. Should I speak first to break this silence? She wondered. However, she’s still not sure whether the other girl has any problems with she sitting here at their table. Maybe it’s still best for me to just leave and wait for another seat at the Ravenclaw table…

Fortunately, after a while, the other girl finally spoke and introduced herself. Akina Briarwood? Josephine can’t say that she has any impression of such a name, especially since Akina wasn’t even in the same house as her, so it makes sense for her to not pay much attention to a random Gryffindor’s name. “Oh, hi! My name’s Josephine Acosta. I believe that you are also a first year?” Actually, she doesn’t really have any proof that Akina is a first year like her, but judging from her behavior and appearance, she’s relatively sure that she is correct.

Akina stayed quiet for most of the time. She didn't want the room to get any louder than it already was. If the girl asked any questions, she would just either nod or shake her head. She looked around, her jealousy floating back, and she tried to fight the urge to yell at the girl. She's just another person. Like you, Akina thought, hoping to calm her nerves. But jealous or not, she could feel her toes tingling beneath her white socks. That usually happened when she was annoyed or upset.

She focused her mind on the steak in front of here. The food rations here were decent, but nothing could compare to the meals she had back at home. Akina sighed and rested her head on her palm, thinking of memories from her childhood. Akina rubbed her temples unappreciatvely, wanting to block out all the noise coming from the room. It was too loud here. Way too loud. She wondered if students were allowed to excuse themselves and escape go to the library during dinner.

Akina wondered if the girl also liked books. She also wondered so many other things that she desired to ask, but it would be really awkward to ask such a simple question. Luckily, the girl said something first. “Oh, hi! My name’s Josephine Acosta. I believe that you are also a first year?”Josephine asked. Akina nodded.
