2023, Stage 3 Gryffindor vs Ravenclaw: Match 9

Callie was convinced that this had to be the ultimate sign that she was cursed. Either that or she had done something so foul in a past life that it continued to haunt her to this very day. Regardless the general experience of this duel sucked and generally felt like she wasn't even wearing her glasses the entire time. Not that the blindfolds made much difference to things, really. Callie was finding it hard to see in the first place. When the blindfold wrapped around her head Callie opted to start deciding to have fun with this whole situation instead. So she started to hum various songs by ABBA, starting off with dancing queen.

Galton finally made some headway with Mr. Wand. His blindfolds would soar across the piste and wrap themselves neatly upon the two Ravenclaw faces. Every success must be celebrated, even the smaller ones. The fact that the blindfold wasn't wrapped over his own face was a win in and of itself. But a success was all the more reason for Galton to keep up his efforts - both his conversing with Mr. Wand, and his dueling efforts. They went hand and hand really.

Pericles focused intently on clearing yet another cloud. The cast was clean, dwindling the haze bit by bit until... a blindfold burst from the fog, snapping snugly around his eyes. The Ravenclaw went from blinded by magic to blinded by cloth. His lips twisted into a grimace, a sharp breath inhaled in an attempt to steady himself. Pericles held his wand tight in preparation.

Jake was a bit relieved when he saw that the Gryffindors WEREN'T planning an all-out assault. He was sure that the Ravenclaws not being able to see was going to be the moment the Gryffindors were waiting for. It turned out...not exactly. Galton used the opportunity to...make more fog? Jake wondered how the Ravenclaws would feel when their blindfolds came off and they found themselves back in the foggy landscape they'd started themselves in.

But Elsa on the other hand saw her chance. While the Ravenclaws took the blindfolds off of their head, a fire spell would go right for Callie and by the time she got her blindfold off she would see her robes light! Just a small flame at first, but it would singe, the heat felt for sure. The Ravenclaws were back in the fight, but slowly the Gryffindors were chipping away at them. Had the Ravenclaws managed to make a hit yet? Jake had never seen a duel won this way - not by an all-out assault but by small cuts, controlling the weather. He never would have guessed it...Galton and Elsa must have been master strategists.

But there was still time to go...and that meant things could turn around. If nothing else happened, he'd have to award the duel to the Gryffindors because they were the only ones to deal damage, but it was small damage....and the Ravenclaws could still rally. This was anybody's game.

There was a little variation to the usual ‘cover everything in fog’ strategy they’d been going for. This time Galton would only cover the birds in fog. Innovation at its finest. This whole duel was a change of pace from his usual style, a sort of test run. Not capitalizing on blindfolded opponents felt a bit funny, but it was all part of the plan (because there totally was a plan).

Galton would make sure to continue his talk with Mr. Wand, celebrating their efforts and Nicky’s fiery success. Even with the comfort of fog on the piste, you could never get too comfortable with Mr. Wand.

FIRE! WHY WAS IT ALWAYS FIRE? Last time Callie checked she wasn’t a candle although within duels? Totally different story. Fire seemed to be a personal favourite of the duellists, Callie included so she couldn’t be too mad about the entire ordeal. She herself had set many…many opponents aflame. However that did not mean she was at the very lightly slightly annoyed at the development.
