When Chaos Comes Knocking
The first day of winter break is normally a wonderful one for children. Being able to sleep in late and enjoy the start of your freedom from homework, school, and responsibilities. The first day of winter break for Tristan, though, meant another in the stupid annual winter galas he had to go to. Tight suits, snobby boring adults, and stuffy ballrooms weren't exactly Tristan's go-to's for a fun day off. Alas, this was the social circle he was born into and his mother made sure he was present for all of these lame events.Date: 23 December 2022

Tristan tugged at the collar of his white button-down shirt, which felt like it was choking him right now. The winter events were always the worst since the heat in these manors never quite circulated properly so it was always blazing in the ballroom. A problem that could easily be solved if Tristan was allowed to remove his white suit jacket, but no, that would be unbecoming, as if he looked at all charming in his all-white get-up. There's a time and place for sticking to a theme, but Tristan felt like a living snowman.
Tristan's mind went to heading outside for some chill air but then a more mischievous way to cool down popped into his head. What if he found the circuit breaker of the manor and turned off the power, and by extension the heat? Even if the lights would go out in this scenario, it would definitely lighten up the party a bit. Plus it wasn't like he had anything better to do.
Waiting for the opportunity when his mother was too distracted talking to other party-goers, Tristan slipped through the main doors of the ballroom. The main entrance to the manor was expansive, as they tend to be, with a large staircase leading upstairs. He didn't have any personal beef with the hosts so going up there wouldn't be that fruitful. Tristan was more interested in the hallway heading to the West wing, clearly off-limits as indicated by the velvet rope blocking the entrance.
Not like that was stopping anyone physically, simply a social rule that guests aren't allowed there. Tristan wasn't one to take those rules seriously, though, so with a step over the velvet rope, he officially started his trouble-causing adventure.
Tristan took his leisurely time walking through the hall, opening each door he passed in hopes of finding a set of basement stairs or better yet a closet that simply contained the circuit breaker to the house. He wasn't in much of a rush, as long as he wasn't actively causing trouble, his mother tended to zone him out during these functions. Plus, it was quiet and in the hall, he could undo his bowtie and take off his suit jacket, which gave him some relief from the heat.
The hall got dimmer and dimmer as he moved away from the lit main entrance. Before long, he'd probably have to give up on his quest because it wouldn't be long before he hit a dead end or-
Before Tristan could finish his thought, something caught his foot and he fell flat on his face. He sat up, rubbing his forehead as he regained composure, "Ow, feck... stupid beat-up rug." Only when Tristan turned around, he realized it wasn't a bump in the velvet rug that lined the hallway floor that caused him to trip, but rather a boy sitting in the hall. Tristan cocked his head as he tried to process what or rather who was in front of him, "The hell?"
