Clash of Ideologies

In the span of a few short weeks, Lucas had gone from having stepped foot in the library on only a handful of occasions to becoming somewhat of a regular, having grown tired of the normal class material for Defence Against the Dark Arts, he'd began to make use of the extensive library to read ahead.

It was the early morning on Sunday when Lucas had made his most recent excursion down into the library, having gone straight there after having eaten his breakfast. Despite having become somewhat of a regular, a single look at Lucas would tell anyone that the library was not really his natural habitat. When others were reading, and taking notes, Lucas spent a lot of his time looking longingly over at the restricted section, or simply rocking back and forth on his chair, looking at something other than his books. He wasn't delusional enough to think he'd be able to use any of the spells in that section, but even reading about them would be infinitely more useful than anything else he'd find in the libary.

After spending more time than he'd care to admit simply staring over at the restricted section, he eventually turned back to his work with a loud sigh, grabbing the top book from his pile, which went over a lot of the spells they would eventually learn in second year. The rest of the books were on really any subject imaginable that was even vaguely related to DADA, some on vampires, some on werewolves, others on stories of dark wizards and witches.

Ashley had been searching in the library for far too long; it was about to get dark, and the students were supposed to gather at the Great Hall for dinner within the next few hours. He occasionally wished that dinner was served in their dormitories because he found socializing to be very tedious.

His fascination with knowledge intensified daily, and he seemed to be a consummate brainiac.
For the young man, the library was a great place to be, especially given his ulterior objectives. He kept searching for a particular book that would provide what he required. Many Hogwarts students departed the area to get ready for dinner and catch up with their roommates as the fairly enchanting space reverberated with his footsteps. There weren't many people remaining in the library. The place was silent, yet the sound of pages turning was audible along with his footsteps.

He murmured to himself, "Where is it, I have been looking for millennia." as his curiosity progressively waned.

The hunt seemed to go on forever like some kind of a loop of years. Just as he was preparing to give up, he noticed a young Griffyndor boy sitting alone and looking at something intriguing. The cover obviously looked familiar, but the other lad appeared to be engrossed in the imagination that the book had given him. He asked himself, "So Griffyndors has bookworms too, huh?"

Ashley moved gradually in the direction of the other young man who seemed to feasted on knowledge. Ashley had trouble striking up discussions with everyone he encountered. Whichever way you want to put it, the interaction was either awkward or dreadful. As a result, when he first arrived, he was unsure of how to strike up a discussion with the other individual.
"Can I please see that?"

He failed to extend a greeting, which will undoubtedly make the encounter unpleasant.
He wasn't impolite; rather, he was rarely chatty unless he had something to say or was being talked to.

Despite Ashley's assessment of Lucas seeming to be a bookworm, and from a far glance perhaps it seemed that way, Lucas wasn't doing much in the way of reading at this very moment, more simply staring at the page. He was instead distracted by his own imagination, various stories of him carrying out various heroics being the subject of said imagination.

Ashley actually had somewhat caught Lucas' attention, as he watched the other boy walking confusedly around the library. It was defiantly a sight that he related to, but he was a bit surprised to see a Ravenclaw lost in the library, he had always sort of assumed the library to be their natural habitat. Then again, not all the Ravenclaws he had met had possessed the great wit and intelligence that his parents had claimed they would possess.

While he felt some sympathy for the boy, he didn't care enough to offer to help, and instead turned back to the book, closing it with a sigh, staring down at the cover. It was a fun book, no doubt, but he had already read it and had simply wished to go over it. That was when he heard. voice over his shoulder requesting the book.

"Nice to meet you to." He muttered, probably just about loud enough for Ashley to hear him. As he glanced over his shoulder, realising it was the boy who had been walking around seemingly aimlessly, and put two and two together. He was probably looking for the book that Lucas had just spent the past five minutes simply starting at.

"I suppose so." He nodded, before adding on. "Are you a first year too? You look around my age."

"Nice to meet you to." The other boy said something. "Oh, I'm sorry. Greetings to you as well." Ashley responded with a low-tone. He was undoubtedly worn out from the search that had occurred. The library is a truly enormous space, with countless shelves and items to find. It was exhausting to hunt and come up empty-handed. Accio spell would help at this time.

He stopped for a while, unsure of whether he should actually take the book or politely request the other boy hand it to him. He didn't want to appear to be bullying the other boy by taking the book without his consent because he wasn't a bully and neither did he have characteristics that were near to those of a bully.

The other boy finally said when "I suppose so.". Ashley let out a sigh of relief. Taking the book, he began rummaging through it like a mouse searching for cheese in garbage sites. He leaned down close to study every feature on the pages, his eyes squinting as he did so. He squinted because he didn't have his reading glasses with him at the time.

Because the other boy jolted him out of his reverie and made him slow down, he eventually did. "Are you a first year too? You look around my age.".
"I believe I am around your age, yes. and I am a first-year student, yes. My name is Ashley Montez... and you are?" Out of curiosity, he asked a query. "I also take it from the style of your attire that you are in Griffyndor", he said.

"Don't worry about it." He grinned as the other boy apologised, shifting a few of the books across the table to create some room for the other boy incase he wanted to sit down.

Lucas watched on as Ashley began to shift through the pages, watching on in amusement as he began to squint. Despite them both wanting the same book, their approach while reading it didn't seem to be further apart. "Reckon you should wear some glasses if you're struggling at that distance." He sat bluntly, before nodding at the other chair around the table. "Should probably sit down too, you look a bit strange standing and reading" He paused, before quickly adding on. "No offence meant by that or anything, just pointing it out." while Lucas' words generally were blunt, his tone often gave away that he was rarely serious in saying them.

"If you're first year, then we're the same age. Lucas Chapman." He reached his hand out to the other boy. "Yeah, I'm a Gryfffindor." He nodded, a proud grin on his face.

"Didn't expect another first year to be asking for that book though, I think that's second year stuff." In fact, most of the books stacked up besides Lucas seemed to also be second year.

The boy let out a "hm" as the other boy was settling him down. Ashley sat down and put a graceful smile on his face as he watched the other lad be considerate to remove the books from the table.

"Yep, distance is my enemy, mate!" Ashley kept turning the pages of the book he was holding. Sincerely, he felt weary of simply browsing. "No offence meant by that or anything, just pointing it out."
He finally arrived on a page containing a list of mystical beast creatures and said, "Non taken!" in a very serious manner. Do you have any knowledge of Doxies? The boy inquired out of curiosity; he knew very little about them and wanted to know where he could particularly find them. He could be able to create havoc by releasing them in the school or by using it to play a practical joke on someone. (Jokes)

He raised an eyebrow and turned to look at the other boy. Lucas, nice to meet you."Didn't expect another first year to be asking for that book though, I think that's second year stuff.". I am a Raven full of curiosity, so simple is not in my vocabulary, Ashley said, grinning. He become very sarcastic, although he was still making jokes throughout. He was merely seeking information, as he frequently does. Information that would be vital and probably help him know something for the future. I mean, as a Raven, that is key after all.
