Like a Bullet to the Brain SOLO Completed

Another morning in the Owlery. I didn't go up here too often, but I was expecting a letter, so when I was expecting a letter, well, I go up to the Owlery. This one was supposed to be from my Mum, who I hadn't gotten a letter from in months. If she's sending a letter now, then it must be pretty urgent, especially if I haven't written her first.

I went up to the West Tower and waited for the letter I was expecting, then I got it and quickly opened it up. One quick read through the whole letter and I could already tell that it wasn't good news, not at all.

Dear Aurora,

It hurts me a lot to tell you this, but I'm afraid it's very urgent and you need to know before you come from school. Your dad and I are getting a divorce, I'm afraid. There's been a lot going on at home, and a lot of pressure, and it's been putting a lot of strain on our marriage. Both of us are getting upset over the littlest things, and it's just not working out well for either of us. So, once you get back home, you and your brother will stay with me, though you might be able to visit your father, since he's moving back to Wales with your grandparents, and we will too, since it would be better to live closer to your paternal grandparents, since we'll stay with them for a while during the transition.. On top of that, you'll most likely be taking my maiden name as a result of this.

The hell?! How could something like this happen?! Why was this happening? I understood why, yes, but I still didn't understand. Mum and Dad loved each other, I didn't see how anything could impact that so much that they chose to get a divorce! I read through the letter again and again, but the message remained the same.

I wondered if my brother knew about this. If he did, then I was sure he'd be just as confused and upset as I was. I ripped the letter in half and crumbled it up into a ball, then threw it at the wall. Sigh. If only there was something, anything I could do. But, the descision was final. there wasn't a thing I could do about it.
