2023, Stage 2 Ravenclaw vs Hufflepuff: Match 8

Dorion may have been armed with a bravery charm now but even so…they were still at great disadvantage. Eun-ji knew what it felt like standing two against one. She was in the very same position during her last duel. Compared to her however, the Hufflepuff was at least capable of hitting two targets at once. A skill the Ravenclaw had yet to master. Unfortunately, both her and her teammate remained vigilant despite the things going entirely in their favour. This meant the flipendo hurled their way was avoided by both Ravenclaws without much trouble. The same couldn’t be said about their opponent…

It seemed that the bravery charm did nothing to help and Dorion ended up being hit by both hers and Dee’s spell. They weren’t in a horrible state per se but they were now blindfolded. Fighting two people at once in a complete darkness was going to be difficult to say the least. Eun-ji did feel sorry for them but at the same time, she was proud of herself. This was 180-degree turn compared to her last match. It was good to see that she was able to get back up and redeem herself right away. This time, Eun-ji wasn’t planning on letting her team down.

Ugh, whether it be luck or skill neither were working in their favor currently. Their spell spread had failed, again, and soon Dori found themselves unable to see. It almost helped, blocking out the visual noise of the duel and the spectators. Sadly, Dori had no idea where their opponents were so it wasn't a help that was super duper helpful.

Lightning opened the series of unfortunate events and struck into the blindfolded Dorion without a second of hesitation.

Dealla sent a very strong stream of water and hit. Wet Dorion, water in the eyes, it was pure luck (should've sounded funny but there's no luck in what was happening) that the lightning struck before the water got all over the place and not after.

Eun-ji shot a sharp Flipendo and knocked it hard into Dorion's chest. A thing to remember. But Dorion could never know who was responsible for what.

In a weak attempt to remove the blindfold, the blindfold was lifted off. One could imagine the face expression of Dorion.

Spectator Thread, Day 1

Dori wished that they could say this was the most pain that they had ever been in. Between the ball mosp attack, the Hufflepuff Common Room Explosion, their teenage existence, and the duels over the years this was simply another blow. The lightning first that coursed through their body, water next (thank goodness), and the knockback jinx that, for a moment, left Dori feeling breathless. They were dwindling in this duel. With their blindfold being weakly taken off and blinking to adjust to the light once more they couldn't help but glance over to where Lindsey once stood. Would it finally happen where both Hufflepuffs fall? Dori, all things considered in their losing streak, had never been completely KO'ed during a duel. But for once it seemed like it was coming close to a possibility.

That's it...this was no doubt Eun-ji's best duel yet. Her spells kept hitting their intended target while her opponents tended to miss quite a few of them. Time seemed to fly faster than usual and it was now clear that the Ravenclaw team was going for the win. Dorion would probably still do their best but the situation was pretty much hopeless at this point. Just this round, they were hit the total of three times and it looked really painful. Eun-ji did not envy their situation in the slightest but that was duelling for you. Some matches tended to be extremely difficult. There was simply no way around it and all duellists knew that. You couldn't do this sport if you couldn't handle the pain.

There was nothing challenging about hitting a blindfolded opponent. While there were, of course, auditory indicators that an attack was coming, they would have to guess at the direction and timing of the attacks, and especially if there was more than one, that difficulty increased exponentially. (Dee would know.)

Hence, both her and Eun-ji's spells hitting their marks was expected. What wasn't, however, was that the cloud above Dorion's head once again decided to join in. Dee shielded her eyes against the flash, then blinked, squinting across the field to see the other two attacks landing in quick succession. That... must've hurt. She'd never seen lighting strike so many times in one duel. Was a higher frequency of strikes indicative of the potency of the cast, or was it a plain matter of luck? Either way, Dori must have really summoned the fury of the heavens with that spell.

The uneventfulness of the duel, that close to the end by the timer, did not settle well with Meenauh. It was either the overall tiredness, or the calm before the storm.

Speaking of the storm, Dorion got the blindfold off, and started to deal with the storm around. Being hit with lightning wasn't pleasant, so off you go, Cloud. With a swift motion, it was sent to the Ravenclaw side. A few lightnings flashed, but no one was harmed. Another split of the wind went Eun-ji's way, but a swift motion allowed her to avoid the spell.

Dealla was going through her spell inventory it seemed and varied the spells, this time the wind. But apparently more concentration was required — the spell went off towards her ally, who, thankfully, was evasive enough to jump away. But it cost concentration, and Eun-ji herself missed the Flipendo towards Dorion. Meenauh shook her head in disbelief, but yeah, everything could happen as the end of the duel was approaching.

Perhaps they were getting too comfortable. The Ravenclaw team was obviously looking forward to snatching their win and forgot that things tended to go horribly wrong the moment you got too cocky. This round was definitely a proof of said rule.

Eun-ji was not only targeted by their opponent but Dealla failed her spell so badly that it hurled towards her as well. Thankfully, she managed to doge both gusts of winds however, it was not without cost. Jumping around like that did nothing for her aim and the flipendo missed its target. At last, this round Dorion could take a breather. Even the ominous clouds were now on the Ravenclaw’s side of the piste. Well…we just have to do better next round.

It was possible that Dee had relied a little too much on the remnants of Eun-ji's wind jinx still swirling about Dori and inhibiting their ability to evade.

She picked the wind jinx herself this time, the effect from Eun-ji's previous one was likely not gonna last much longer. Yet she might as well have picked Flipendo or failed the spell altogether for all the good it did when she once again missed. Grumbling, she shook her wrist, trying to loosen the tension. Where was her focus today? Her sharply honed accuracy? This was a disgrace.

There was finally a moment of calm and respite within the storm of a duel. A misfire towards Eun-ji gave Dori a break from dodging, though they still had to duck from Eun-ji's spell. While their spell missed in turn, there was a sigh of relief that came from the depths of their chest since they didn't have to worry about the literal storm cloud above their head.
