Although they had been at Hogwarts for little more than a month, Ava was quick to figure out what classes she was and wasn’t good at. Without work, there was only one class Ava was good at. Transfiguration. She didn’t know why, but the spells just came to her easier.

Today, she was excited for class. She was always excited for class when it was transfiguration. She usually traveled alone to class, and today wasn’t an exception. Call her an introvert, she just wasn’t good at socializing. Truth was, she loved people. Hanging out with them, liking them…hating them. She liked it all.

Ava walked into class and took her seat. She usually sat with whoever ended up at her table, and today it happened to be another Slytherin. She couldn’t recall the name of this Slytherin, but it was somewhere in the back of her brain. Somewhere.

On her desk, she let all her supplies sit on a heap. She had a book she was currently reading for fun, the second book in The Keeper of The Lost Cities series. She also had a few rolls of parchment, three quills, an ink well and her wand.

She was wearing her Slytherin robes, as was required, and had tied her hair up into a messy bun, tying it with a green bow. Her hair wasn’t that long, but it was long enough to make her hair look nice in braids, buns or pony tails.

───── Transfiguration fell on the easier side of classes they taught at Hogwarts for Lilliana. The first year found the theoretic components of the class confusing, she was convinced the professor added that part in as a chance to sneak in some muggle sciences into Transfiguration. But, other than theory, Lilliana found the class easy enough to manage.

Lilliana briskly entered the class, taking an empty seat. Sorting her supplies neatly on her desk, she watched out of the corner of her eye as a girl took the seat next to her. Catching her eye, was a book. Keeper of the Lost Cities, that was the name. Oh! Lilliana remembered meeting a third year, Bailey, who had lended her the first book of the muggle series. She hadn’t read much, but was already hooked! “Is that Keeper of the Lost Cities?” Lilliana blurted. Oops. What if they didn’t respond? Or just ignored her?

Taking a second look at the person sitting next to her, Lilliana found their face vaguely recognisable. From their robes, she could tell they were Slytherin too, she remembered seeing them around the common room a bit, but hadn’t talked to them yet. “Uh, I’m Lilliana,” She quickly added. Well, there’s definitely no going back now.

Once Ava had sat next to the girl, she stared straight ahead at where the teacher would be. Would be, later. Ava was somewhat early to class today.

She could feel the weight of the other girl’s eyes on her. Ava kept her eyes straight ahead, but turned when she heard the girl begin to speak. “Is that Keeper of the Lost Cities?” Honestly, the words made her jump a little, after the quiet of the table, and she blushed after a slight cringe. Looking over to the other girl, she smiled at the words. "Yeah, it is! Have you read it?" Well that was a silly question, she chided herself. Of course the other girl had read it, if she knew the title at all. Ava blushed harder at her stupidity, and a wave of red rippled her hair, stopping at the tips. Not that Ava could see it, with her hair tucked up in a bun.

The other girl studied her for a moment, probably trying to figure out who Ava was, before introducing herself. “Uh, I’m Lilliana,” Ava smiled. "It’s nice to meet you, Lilliana." Ava held out a hand for Lilliana to shake. "I’m Ava Winchect." She introduced herself, although she wasn’t quite sure why she had used her last name as well. She was the farthest thing from pureblood you could get, and her last name meant nothing here. Again, she blushed, and again a wave of red rippled through her hair, stopping at the tips. A good 3 inches of hair was red now, and it remained the same color as her blush.

─────The silence hung in the air, fragile, waiting to be broken. Lilliana was the first to crack, earning a slight jump from the other first year, making her wince too. She began to neat out her supplies until she felt the girl's gaze settle on her. Shifting around to face her, the tension bearing upon her shoulders lessened slightly at the beam on their face. Lilliana nodded after they spoke, “I have! Er… well, I’m halfway through the first book, but it’s great so far!” She spoke, her tone bright and bouncy. It was good, definitely, for a muggle book.

Lilliana watched, as a coat of blush covered the other girl’s face, followed by a similar hue suddenly taking form on her hair! The blond girl’s eyes enlarged at the sight, “Wait,” she said, her eyes flickering over the other girl, “Aren’t you a…” she remembered skimming over something similar in the Library once, the name of the ability in the back of her head, “metamorphagus! I think it’s called that, right?” A fresh smile surfaced on the pale girl’s face with satisfaction. “That’s so cool!” Lilliana breathed, more to herself than to them.

The silence resumed, other than the sound of students shuffling in to take their seats in the background. Lilliana was more focused on studying the girl's face, trying to identify this person. They had a touch of familiarity, having seen them around the castle often, but the name was still trying to click. Lilliana told the other girl her name, at last, ending the suspense. The brunette next to her introduced herself as Ava Winchect, Lilliana tried to remember any pure-blooded families of the last name Winchect, but memory failed her. She shrugged it off, All Slytherins are Pure-Bloods, anyways. A smile formed on the corners of her mouth, "Nice to meet you too," She gave a nod to Ava.
