She'll take that wink as a yes. Now that's something to look forward to, another practice session with the merciless fourth year, Dealla Prince. Just thinking about it is making her feel pumped up although people will definitely see that as stupid for a dueling newbie like her. Not like she cares what they think and besides, it's not like it's them that's getting hurt in the process.

Time to get her head back in the game. Like Dealla though, she was expecting for this duel to be chaotic considering how it was set up. The lack of retaliation from one of the team had her curious and maybe a bit confused but at the same time, it is telling her that they might be up to something. There is more to dueling than just attacking after all and that's strategy. While it may seem like she wasn't doing anything this time, she was observing while also ready for anything that might come her way and luckily, nothing did. She might not seem like it, but the girl does know how to take things slow and observe. This is a great opportunity for learning more about dueling and strategies.

The badgers went for the same tactic like earlier, shooting their magic at Avery. What did he even do to them to garner such attention? and of course, the Slytherin boy will try to get into people's nerves which is probably working by now. She winced upon seeing her own partner's spell missed though but that was an impressive Flipendo although Donald's was a lot more impressive this round. "That's unfortunate." The banters continue, Raizel finding them rather amusing, kind of shows how close they are, or how fired up they are in terms of mental battle. "Is this how dueling works?" She wondered as most people here are duelists and if getting into people's heads is part of the strategy that they use in official duels.

One moment, Dealla was musing about whether her duels had also looked like this when she'd been a second year - they hadn't, right? - then thankfully for her ego, her attention was called back to reality before she could recall the painful truth of these first duels. Even if that distraction was provided by the two attending Slytherins planning a pumpkin attack on her, which, if successful, would probably not be great for her ego, either.

"Ah, yes, poor me," she drawled in response to Bea's words. Neither of the two Slytherins had so far given any indication that she'd need to be worried if they started chucking things at her. And honestly, skinny as they looked, they might have a hard time throwing pumpkins further than their own feet, anyway. "Go on, Bea, defend my honour."

Whether in response to vile pumpkin threats or for some other unseen prompt, things did finally get a little more exciting. Ming had maybe had enough of simply standing around and waiting for the spells to come, and adopted a more proactive stance. Namely, setting the younger of the two badgers on fire. He was quite successful at it, too, and Dee reevaluated whether she'd need to be concerned about flying pumpkins... nah. Still no muscles to speak of.

Meanwhile, every other duellist on the stage turned their wands on Ming, and Dee blinked. Had this... been planned? It seemed eerily coordinated. Or were they just grabbing the opportunity as it came?

Either way, Ming proved that even while casting, he was quite nimble. He dodged a sneezing hex from Clark as well as more fire by Bea, before finally getting hit by Donald's spell. He'd feel the odd sensation of his clothes tugging upward - gently at first, then with enough force that it lifted him off his feet, leaving him dangling in his robes a meter above ground like an especially awkward hammock. Well. He'd have a hard time dodging up there, that was for sure.

In the meantime, Avery and Raizel had again elected to do... effectively nothing. Dealla frowned at the younger Slytherin as a new thought came to her. Drat. Maybe she should have asked this before the duel. "Hey, you," she called over to him, waving her hand at him vaguely. "You do know some duelling spells, right?"

"One can never consent to creep when one feels an impulse to soar."

Clark was out of his dusky daze, knowing that if he had withdrawn his wand from the previous moment, he figured he was already an intimidating loser. A loser that basically resided with no true friends, because no one would dare to go near him. He felt like he was obviously isolated, discarded like a box of used tissues.

Regardless, that wouldn't be his prime focus right now. As much as he hated- and when Clark says hated, he means LOATHED. He would instead turn his direct attention towards the Slytherin next to the boy with the letter. "Stelus!" He recanted. Perhaps he should avoid spells in general. It was pretty obvious he was a pretty crappy duellist.

Not that he ever was a duellist, but the idea of him ever being a potential duellist was risky and would've been bloody dreadful. But then, he felt like he was set on fire, and cried out in pain. "Ow! I'm melting! I'm melting! Whoever casted that, you're going down, if I don't die anyways right now."

Clark felt himself groan out in frustration but he couldn't do anything about it. He was hopping around on one foot in an attempt to lose the flame that were on his body. He would've looked like a clown, humiliating himself.

A change in tactic would be necessary. It would be unexpected, maybe, for them to switch to the other Slytherin. Donald had felt no real anger towards the other like his partner seemed to, but teamwork made the dream work. He had targeted with his partner until now, but this time decided to switch it up. Pulling someone into the air would make it hard for the pair of snakes to continue to dodge about. If he got a hit, Donald for sure could prevent it and make him easier pickings. That would certainly be funny.

"Wingardium Leviosa!"
He shouted, swishing his wand gracefully and carefully, focused hard on Fang. It was a success! Donald grinned wide with pride as the robes pulled the boy upwards, making him a floating target. Nothing came at Donald this round either, meaning it was just him and his target for now.

During the action, the Hufflepuff boy did notice his small partner get hit by a jet of green, and there was a fire. Noises came to indicate the hit, and his partner seemed annoyed. Well, the floating boy had managed to get a spell off before he became a floating wizard. It was at least some action from them finally.

"It's okay, he's floating now!"

Compared to the previous one, this round is a lot more eventful with all the spells flying. An impressive casting from the older Slytherin, a strong fire making spell and completely different from what they had been taught in their year. "Woah!" Spells are always fascinating, especially the ones that she doesn't know. Well, Clark on the other hand, won't find that impressive for he was just set on fire because of that spell. The other spells that were casted headed for Ming and while it was cool seeing him dodge despite how he was focusing on casting his own spell, she can't help but feel slightly disappointed that Bea's spell missed again.

That made her chuckle sheepishly. Maybe luck wasn't on their side at the moment and for sure, the same goes to her. She had been hit by a lot of bad luck recently, especially when it was time to cast spells when it mattered, always missing. Her eyes then fell on Donald, the levitation spell that he casted had just successfully hit the older Slytherin boy who had been avoiding spells since round one. Now that's awesome. Meanwhile, Avery didn't do anything but not like she can talk because she did the same. For sure though, the boy is observing, like what she is doing right now, watching their opponents to plan for their next move.

Raizel looked over to Bea, smiling at her. "I'm sure the 4th one will hit next time." She tried to give her some encouragement, showing her a fist pump. It was certainly unlucky that the third time missed. Third time's a charm, they say, but this time doesn't seem to be the case.

A quizzical look filled his features, what was this about some kind of plot to overthrow the moderator? Surely his opponents weren’t as dull as they looked; no, as they acted. Their strategy, or lack thereof, was certainly nothing to be envious of, until of course they waltzed right into that which Ming and Avery had implemented.

“And now, a staccato!” He gave as Ming launched the offensive with devastating result. Clark was aflame and squawking, and Avery; relishing. Though this round seemed a wasted one on his behalf, as no spells came his way. Ming deftly avoided two of the three spells sent his way and managed to weave through the counter with great skill; only to get struck by the ginger’s levitation charm.

At that point, Dealla waved at him like some kind of serviceman; as though she was worthy of his attention. – She had a sense of humour, to be sure, but it only solidified his theory that this was indeed some kind of stitch up.

“Make haste, not speed, they say.” He said, shrugging her off. It was true enough that he was analytical and observant; always looking for a weakness to exploit. He seemed undecided, not eager to take her advice; to wait and see perhaps. Though his posture looked prepared to dodge again, his eyes burned with a vengeful fire, trained on Clark. Had he slipped up then? Avery almost predicted her next words though they would ring true; there was neither speed nor haste in his actions, however optimal his actions had been. Would it serve them? Time would tell, but the wailing and tempting sight that was the meagre Clark Baird was sure to entice more than his solitary attention.

It was a feeling of grim satisfaction to be back in the limelight as the biggest threat in this duel, and Hui-Ming could do little but weave around the incoming incendio from Beatrice. Clark shot a sneezing hex at him -- an inspired choice, if a little bit unorthodox. Just as the Chinese boy fired a spell back towards Clark, though, he was caught (rather literally) by a spell from Mr. Fish: Another unorthodox spell choice from the older badger, but an effective one, limiting his own tactical maneuverability.

While Hui-Ming exchanged spells, his partner seemed to be struggling with a different kind of conundrum altogether. And wasn't that just dandy?

"Mr. Leveret." Hui-Ming called to his teammate, his voice sharp. He could not speak of their strategy, would not, even, now that they were firmly in the midst of combat. Hui-Ming raised an imperious eyebrow at his partner, before tilting his head just so towards their moderator.

Questions left unvoiced, but asked all the same. It would not do to embarrass his partner in public, but perhaps it would be kinder to redirect the flow of the young Slytherin. Allowing Leverett to languish in the mire of his own mind; analyzing word games, and evaluating bluffs was a luxury. One that was beyond their means.

"Perhaps we now require the introduction of some.... discordant little notes to this... unanticipated harmony."

The words came slow, each word chosen with intention. Perhaps it would be enough to I've the boy some direction.

Bea rolled her eyes at Dee, a mischievous smile forming on her lips. "Oh I will Dee! I can't let my grandprefect be insulted like that!" Hui-Ming on the other hand might be. It wasn't just her this round going for him, it seemed every other duellist except for Rai and Avery went for me. Clark and her were unlucky, their spells missing. Bea huffed out an aggravated breathe at that. Only Donald was lucky, and Bea's eyes went wide as Ming was raised into the air by his clothes. What an awkward looking banana hammock! Even though Bea had learnt the spell last year, she'd never really seen in action until now. Especially not in duelling.

The awestruck experience was apparently not just from her. She heard Rai make an exclamation as her fire shot off towards Hui-Ming and missed. She turned towards the other girl, a slight grin on her face. "Better than you expected, huh? Would've been even better if I could actually hit something!" She rolled her eyes, a light exasperation lighting her face. The competitiveness was seeping through her pores, but she wouldn't aim that towards Rai. She wanted the girl to actually like her. Hearing the Slytherins, she rolled her eyes. She didn't understand them and honestly they could be speaking parseltongue for all she cared. Which was little. They wouldn't reveal their secrets anyway.

The Puffs seemed better. She smiled at them as Donald vanquished Hui-Ming into the air. "Nice one!"

The younger Slytherin gave some reply to her question that Dee chose to interpret as probably, we'll see, and she shrugged, bouncing up and down on her feet. It wasn't her problem if he'd chosen to join a duel without knowing any helpful spells, she supposed.

With Clark on fire and Hui Ming floating a few feet above ground, she anticipated the duel would get more interesting. It did... a little.

The Slytherins had decided it was time to go on offense, finally, but with very varying success. While Hui Ming had managed to land the first hit of the duel in the previous round, this time, things didn't quite go his way. The fire spell sputtered at the tip of his wand but refused to go anywhere, something between the incantation and wand movement had gone terribly wrong. Really, from the looks of it, Dee wouldn't have been surprised if it had backfired on him, but apparently he'd attained a level of control that prevented this. In all fairness, casting while floating couldn't be that easy. Avery, on the other hand, cast a beautiful, efficient knockback jinx, and instead of pressing the advantage on the Hufflepuffs, aimed it at Beatrice instead. The Ravenclaw, perhaps not expecting this, couldn't dodge in time.

On the Hufflepuff side of things, things slowed down a little. Clark was on fire - literally, not metaphorically, and decided it was perhaps better to wait for the heat to die down before taking more offensive actions. Donald had Hui Ming flailing in the air, but with his partner incapacitated, was chose to end the spell early and attack himself. Ming should have been an easy target, too, in the moment between floating and falling, how would he manage to move? And yet he did, twisting out of the spell's path in a way Dee didn't have the words to describe. Your call, Ming, it's a nat 20 while floating, go wild.

Last, the alliance between eagles and lions was the only team that had yet to land a spell... and sadly, it seemed that it would stay that way. While Bea produced an extraordinarily powerful fire spell and Raizel followed it up with a solid knockback jinx, they had chosen to zero in on Clark rather than take advantage of Hui Ming's seemingly precarious situation. It didn't prove any more fruitful. Though both spells were decently aimed, Clark managed to evade both easily, first dodging Bea's spell, then avoiding Raizel's with impressive alacrity. Another nat 20 on Evasion - do with it what you want, Clark. Do a backflip if you like.

Dee raised her eyebrows. At least Avery knew a spell, and apparently also how to aim. This made two points for Slytherin, half of one for Hufflepuff since they had hit but failed to follow up, and, sadly, zero for Bea and Raizel. She clicked her tongue. Perhaps she'd recommend introducing more duelling practices to Samantha and Alan.

"One can never consent to creep when one feels an impulse to soar."

A sob on Clark's part, his brain feeling like he had failed beyond recognition. Was he truly hated amongst all? Who the hell would hate him? He was innocent. Just as innocent as a lamb.

"Listen here redhead. Just go kick some Slytherin ass, I'm sure Avery will just admire you more and more. Isn't that right... you sniveling mudblood?" Clark said, addressing both Donald and Avery.

And so it turned out that the ones who were the bloody idiots were the ones that were blue and red. His instinct would reverbate through his mind. He had something to watch out for- while melting.

All hell had rained down on him, and he wished that every single person in this room would suffer a fate worst than death. Clark's hatred.

But he was melting. Throwing his hands all over himself, he slapped himself silly, just to try and extinguish the bloody flame that resided on him. "YOU IDIOTS. TARGET THEM. NOT ME. I WI-" Clark cut off, feeling something instinctive inside him coming to life.

The same spell that Ming casted on Clark was said by Beatrice, the idiot she was. He screamed as the spell was casted at him and quickly ducked, when at the same time, another cruel classmate decided it would be wise to cast the knockback jinx on him. His instinct kicked in again, and instead of being the one to be knocked back, he found himself jumping out of his ducking position, and rolling towards Donald.

If anyone were to get hurt in his partnership, Clark didn't want it be him.
