Parseltongue Heritage

Tristan Theramin steps into the menagerie and quietly steps into view of the owners. He smiles and gently says, “Hello. How are you? My name is Tristan, I was hoping to receive a snake as a pet. I am a Parseltongue adept and I can prove it, if you wish.” He did not enjoy revealing much about his skills as keeping one’s hand close is a very important advantage. However, gaining a pet snake was a far greater advantage than his parseltongue ability staying a secret. A snake could spy on others, poison others, scare others, be used in dueling, and be a faithful companion to himself. He knew many people would rather keep their adeptness at the language of snakes a quiet affair because of the connotations of darkness and evilness, but Tristan was of the opinion that the tendency of people to treat it differently than other mundane abilities such as juggling, or writing, had a slight influence in Parseltongue’s reputation. If it was treated normally, Tristan believed people would become desensitized to it, and thus less people would consider it evidence for darkness in one’s soul. Yes, parseltongue was an ability Lord Voldermort had but that does not mean every generation of parseltongue adept wizards and witches were destined for great evil and the desire to be a dark lord or lady. When given the permission to pick a snake as a pet, Tristan began to search for the snake that was the best for him. He finds it in the Emerald Gazer, forty-five centimetres long, dark green with yellow spots ,outlined in white. It is indeed a beautiful creature, a majestic one if Tristan must admit. He gazes upon the creature with abject adoration, unable to take his eyes off of the snake, almost captured and hypnotised by its presence. He knows that this is the one he must get. He speaks to it carefully, “You are a noble creature. I would like the honor of having you as my own.” The snake turns his head and stares into his soul, permanently imprinting on Tristan. He faces the shop owner directly and speaks to him genuinely, “This snake is a beautiful creature, I would like to take him home, sir.” Tristan has never himself own a pet but he is excited and confident in his ability to guide and care for one. He has spoken to snakes before, after all, and has been aware of his ability to speak Parseltongue for a very long time. Furthermore, unlike other pet owners, Tristan would of course be able to fully understand the muttering of his creature and take care of its needs without guessing.
