Chaos had come to get even. You may have forgotten that the dualists had raised it to life and let it walk the piste, but it hadn't. It had already tasted badger, and it wanted to know what viper tasted like.

The signs were clear leading into the round. Two duelists were dangerously close to being forced to nap, a fact that both sides surely knew, and surely meant to capitalize on. Hufflepuff would waste no time and go strait for a knockout. The incantation for two flipendo making their way out of the pair. For once though, noise would not escape Hanako's mouth (at least not for casting). The viper would try to channel some of that namesake snake evasion and avoid whatever came for him. Opeila provide a little variety to the magical chorus with a Ventus. "The Badgers are going for a knockout! Will they get it?!" As the words came out of his mouth he immediately got ready for what may happen.

The fipendos would fly across the piste, set on Hanako. Dueling took a lot out of you - the near constant, frenzied movement - the focus - the pain. No one would blame the poor snake for what was about to befall them. Jake's flipendo would connect first. The viper would be pushed back by the force, only to find Autumn's spell waiting for him. A parting gift from the teen's "flirting" fling. In the moment of impact it was easy to miss Opeila's ventus be artfully dodged by Autumn.

"PAUSE! Hanako is down!" Medics would be waved onto the piste just as Hanako hit the wooden floor. Galton would check as he was carted off and then resume his position on the piste. Arm raised, he would shout "RESUME!" With that he would swipe his hand down.

As one-sided as it seemed right now, Galton had no doubt in Opeila's ability to put up a fight, at least. It was certainly going to be interesting.

Her own words from second ago turned out to be something like a dark prophecy, as Hanako was hit by two spells and dropped to the floor. It was enough of a distraction for her aim to be lacking, her spell missed Autumn. "Tone. Tone!" Dammit.
Watching her opponents to make sure she wouldn't be hit by anything they might cast at her, she would step closer to Hanako and nudge him with her show, hoping that this may bring him back to consciousness.

Instead Galton called for a pause so Hanako could be removed from the stage. Opeila found herself in a situation she had not been in in a long time. Faced by two opponents, on her own.

It turned out there WAS a way to make Hanako be quiet, but it wasn't exactly the one Jake had meant to do....well, not EXACTLY.

Sure, he wanted to hit Hanako because that was the point of the duel. And sure he wanted to make sure he hit his opponents before they hit him.

Still, Jake had to wince when both his and Autumn's spells hit Hanako, and just like that the boy hit the ground and didn't get back up.

"Sorry!" Jake couldn't help but call out, though Hanako wouldn't hear him. Sure he'd wanted him to stop his flirting, but he hadn't wanted to HURT him. Yeah, it meant they were winning, and he was happy he'd hit, but still, dueling could be brutal sometimes. He just wished it would stop before somebody got knocked out.

He looked at Autumn. It was now the two of them against Opeila. It felt strange to be on the STRONGER side of a two-on-one..last time it had been the opposite. He felt a small pang of guilt since he knew how it felt to be on the other side of it, having double spells whooshing your way. But he also knew that he couldn't stop fighting - because most people wouldn't hesitate to do the same to him (And if he hadn't known that George had sure rammed it into his head enough times). He was sure that if he hesitated it would just make him get targeted next. Everybody was here to fight...that meant he had to keep fighting too. He couldn't let himself feel guilty... (Well maybe just a little...maybe he'd have to check on Hanako when this was over). He steeled himself up and held his wand tighter.

Autumn was not a gleeful person. She just wasn't, and unlike her sister, she saw no fault with that. But this- watching Hanako Tones unconscious (and more importantly unspeaking) body be wheeled off the piste- made Autumn feel something she did not have words for. The closest she could get was glee, so maybe Autumn could be a gleeful person under the correct circumstances. And what beautiful circumstances they were!

Of course, they could absolutely still lose, and Autumn could absolutely be knocked out. But she wasn't familiar with being on the side with the advantage, and it was beautiful. The stop to Tone's incessant yapping was also appreciated.

She was almost proud of Jake and herself. A strange feeling, that was, and she decided quickly to ignore it as opposed to take a second of reflection. There was no time, when victory stood before them, just out of reach enough to mock her.

The new found silence left by Hanako's departure would allow all of the duelists some time to focus. Some time to think. Attention could be honed in on the duel, and not some playful mind game. For Hufflepuff this was great. Slytherin? Less so.

As annoying as Opeila may have found Hanako, his 'flirting' seemed to keep the badgers somewhat in check. This cast though, Jake would use the opening to make sure the audience knew just how beautiful a voice he had. The most articulate flipendo incantation you could hope for would be recited by the boy. "Ooooh - this will be interesting"

Autumn and Opeila were not to be forgotten of course. Opeila decided it was time for a little more fire. Not to let the badgers forget the general theme for this match. All the while Autumn went for the safe route - keeping herself conscious and standing.

Standing was something Opeila would not be in a moment. Jake's perfect flipendo would make sure of it. With the speed and intensity you'd expect from such magic, it would burst towards the lone viper. Solid aim would have the snake find herself momentarily airborne before crashing onto the piste floor. Hard. The last thing Opeila would see as the flipendo sent her soaring was her fire take hold of Autumn's clothes. The hit hadn't been as clean as one would hope, but Autumns efforts at healing herself would be somewhat thwarted.

"BIG HIT! Jake seems to have taken Opeila's breathe away - did he pick something up from Hanako?!" Galton couldn't help the tease, the situation was too perfect. Well, perfect for a joke. Not so perfect for Opeila. Galton sympathized with her, that feeling of a possible comeback slipping from your fingertips. But it was never too late!

The heck, Opeila was not going down without a fight, although she began to seriously doubt that she could still decide this duel for her house. Was this the end of her winning streak? It certainly seemed that way.

Lips pressed together, she fired another spell at Autumn, that maybe would have hit her better, if it wasn't for the Flipendo that knocked her over so strongly, she saw stars for a second. Oh no, this was not going well...

Wow !

Jake looked at his wand in disbelief as he knocked Opeila to the ground. He was so stunned that this time he didn't even apologize.

He was never exactly what you'd call a GREAT spell-caster. He was good at charms and stuff - but the aggressive spells not so much. Now he was knocking people down left and right. He was more powerful than he'd thought...!

Jake didn't know how it was happening, but maybe practice really DID pay off. Maybe doing so many knockback jinxes was making it start to become instinct. Or maybe being nervous somehow made him much better at pushing things away.

He didn't know, but he had never fought so well in his entire life. He was sort of proud. Of course it could all end in a second, but for now it felt like being in some kind of superhero movie. Like he had spider senses and he was just shooting spells with perfect accuracy. Could it be that he was actually gonna be...good at this? It seemed impossible to believe.

Autumn was pretty sure they were going to win this. It could be wishful thinking, but she really thought… wow. She really wasn't used to this. The possibility of victory was like fire in her heart, and her head, and on her skin.

Oh. No, yeah, her skin was very much actually on fire. Well. That was fun. She was lucky, she supposed, that she'd remembered to heal herself. She had become more and more familiar with her limits over the years, one duelling knock out after another.

She almost pitied Winters as Morris somehow spelled out a vicious Flipendo and sent her flying into the ground. It looked painful, and Autumn had been left without an ally in a duel enough times to be somewhat sympathetic. Still, it really wasn't that she disliked being on this end of matters. And she definitely wasn't complaining that this would possibly be the second ever duelling victory under her belt– and more importantly, her second ever victory against one Hanako Tone.

It didn’t take a genius duelist to predict what was about to happen. The badgers would aim to capitalize on the wounded viper.

Autumn would do the striking. While she wouldn’t channel the same savant-level casting Jake had last cast, she would produce a crisp Flipendo. Jake would surprise everyone. He would finally cast a spell that was not Flipendo! Galton had lost count of how many in a row he’d cast (or tried). It was probably pushing a record. But no more! He’d take over on the healing-front from for Autumn with his own Reparifors. ”Jake with the change up - finally!” Galton would exclaim. Variety was fun.

Opeila on the other hand, lacked a bit of variety. Variety in moves that was. She had only one this to do: pick herself up and get back in this. Oh, and try to avoid the flipendo as well. It was a solid plan.

What wasn’t solid, was her first step after being knocked down. It seemed the air hadn’t fully returned to her lungs, as when she pushed herself up, her knee gave out. The sudden drop was enough to throw off her balance and keep her right in the path of Autumn’s flipendo. A familiar sting would take hold of her, pushing her a bit further back on the piste.

Luckily the hit was lacking Jake’s brutality. Opeila was able to return to her feet, wand ready. ”Opeila’s up! This duels not over yet!”

Give me a damn break!
Her head still spinning, the young Slytherin fought to get back to her feet, only to immediately get hit with another Flipendo. This time she didn't fall, but the impact made her stumble. For a moment a thought crossed her mind, her eyes flickered to Galton and she already drew breath to shout out her giving up, when she thought of Dmitri. Oh, the sixth year would never make her forget it, for sure.
And- more importantly, how was she going to ruin Hanako's life after this if she was going to give up herself?
Hell, if she was going to lose, she would not do it without fighting to the last second.
Which... couldn't be that far away now, could it?
