Cat Fight in the Transfiguration Courtyard!
"No person would waste a
cinnamon bun for nothing."
cinnamon bun for nothing."
Simon had brought a cinnamon bun with him from the breakfast that morning. During his first break, he sat down in the Transfiguration Courtyard beside the Armillary Sphere and picked it up from his school bag. He was only inches from taking a bite when he heard a loud cry and turned around.
Two cats were tumbling in the grass before the smaller cat escaped the claws of the other and ran across the courtyard. The larger cat was not far behind and chased the smaller one up the trunk of a tree. Pieces of bark loosened underneath their sharp claws before they disappeared up into the green foliage. For a moment there was complete silence. Then he hard an eerie growling from the foliage and a helpless meowing.
Simon put his cinnamon bun back in his bag and rushed to the bottom of the tree. He could indeed see the two cats, laying far up on each side of the trunk, giving each other the ultimate death stare. But the smaller cat seemed hurt – it was blinking irregularly and when Simon got used to the shadows in the foliage he could see that it was bleeding. Blood was dripping from its left eye. One drop landed on his robe.
Oh no, poor thing, he thought to himself. Simon drew his wand, but was unsure what to do. He did not master any spells yet. All he could accomplish was making little sparks eject from the tip. Who was the owner of these cats? Or more importantly; who was the owner of the hurt cat?
"Hey!", he yelled to get the attention of the larger cat. It gave him a foul look. "Leave it alone! Get out of there!"
Simon looked in his school bag for something to throw and found his cinnamon bun. He did not hesitate; he took the bun in his hand and gave it his best. The bun went up the foliage but missed the cat with less than an inch. What was he supposed to do?
Then he heard footsteps behind him.

Cat Fight in the Transfiguration Courtyard!
Willow was still astonished by all the changes around her, her head would spin around in all directions as she walked around the magnificent castle; the place she would live in most of her time for however much years. She would get used to it at some point, but today was surely not the day for that. She still got lost every once in a while, in the countless hallways, but she would wander around trying to remember where each place is located.
She suddenly found herself in the Courtyard and was met up with a weird scenery: A tall boy with brown hair throwing what looked like a cinnamon bun at the tree as he looked up into its branches. It was quite amusing and made her wondered what would make him want to throw the bun at the tree. Quite a waste, the cinnamon buns were one of her favorite treats from breakfast.
She decided to approach the interesting situation as her curiously got the best of her, honestly who wouldn't...
She slowly walks closer to the boy and when she was next to him, the height difference noticeable; she came only some inches above his shoulders. She ignored that and looked at the spot he was looking at, her height really didn't help, she frowned slightly before saying:
"Um...Well... What's wrong?" She wasn't certain what to say but that should do.

Cat Fight in the Transfiguration Courtyard!
It was that Hufflepuff girl from his class, Willow. The girl who had said out loud: "Oh, that's me!" when she was called up to the Sorting Hat and caused the first relieving giggle among the nervous group of first years awaiting their turn to be sorted. Apparently, she was embarrassed about it, but Simon had found it quite amusing.
"Um...Well... What's wrong?", asked Willow.
"There are two cats up there", Simon explained. "They were fighting. One of them seem to be hurt pretty bad. See?" He pointed to the smaller cat. "It's bleeding from its eye. I tried to scare the other cat down by throwing a... Never mind what I was throwing." Simon blinked rapidly a couple of times. "But it won't go away. It's a shame they haven't let us learn any practical spells for a situation like this just yet."
Simon realized it sounded as if he was blaming the school for his own shortcomings, which he certainly was not. He quite enjoyed reading about theory, but now, if never, it would have been convenient to know a few handy spells to be creative with.
He felt so childish and helpless in that moment. The first time he had put on his school uniform it was almost as if he grew an inch out of mere pride, but now, a week later, still not having learned any spells, it was almost as if he shrunk by the second for facing his own limitations.

She thought to herself trying to remember if she was accurate...
"One seemed to be hurt pretty bad. See?" He pointed at a spot on the tree. She looked up to where he mentioned to. Honestly, she couldn't see, but she wasn't going to cut him off because of her height problems.
"It's bleeding from his eye." Willow gasped; her eyes widened a little as her imagination conveyed her an image that led shivers down her spine. This was a lot more serious than she thought.
"I tried to scare the other cat down by throwing a... Never mind what I was throwing." She couldn't help but chuckle a bit. That's why he threw the cinnamon bun He continued as to say how much it would have been easier if we had known some spell that could help. And well he was right.
The situation really concerned her even though she wasn't really a cat person but that doesn't matter; one cat was Hurt...Badly... She couldn't help the urge of doing something anything to help.
Then it hit her 'What if he was tricking her, pranking her...No that would be dumb ...' She hesitated 'Nah, no person would waste a cinnamon bun for nothing' She relaxed as she was able to convince herself he was sincere.
She then smiled at him "Well then, I guess we're going to have to do this the -as you people call it- muggle way" She said and approached the tree looking at it's branches carefully.
She looked up a determined look on her face and muttered in an audible volume,
"Let's do this!" as she placed her hand firmly on a close branch.

"Well then, I guess we're going to have to do this the – as you people call it – muggle way", said Willow.
This was one of the reason why he adored the Hufflepuffs, many of them being so determined and resourceful, acting quickly when the moment required it. She did not waste her breath and he had no intentions of doing that either. It was settled then – they had a cat to save!
"My thoughts exactly", he said, dropped his school bag and took his black robe off. Another helpless cry was heard from the hurt cat followed by low pitched growl from its rival. "Don't worry", he said to the little cat. "We're coming there to get you."
He realized this was going to be tricky, with both of the cats so far up in the tree. He undid the top button on his shirt and loosened his blue tie a bit. Willow was already making herself ready to climb but would have to jump and then throw her leg up in order to get up on the lowest branch.
"Here, let me help you get up on that branch. Then you can help me and pull me in", he said and offered her to step on his hands a lift.

Cat Fight in the Transfiguration Courtyard!
Readying herself to climb the tree, Willow smiled at the Ravenclaw as he agreed on having to save the cat even though it might be dangerous. Who knew how high they had to climb? Well surely not her, but from when Simon had pointed it was ... pretty High.
Then, a cry was heard from somewhere between the tree's branches. Willow flinched a little as she felt her heart ache as if it was being strangled; she couldn't bear hearing the wails of pain. It was probably the "Victim cat", 'Unless...' she couldn't help but wonder if the tables had turned and the hurt cat was taking its revenge.
"Don't worry, we're coming there to get you." Simon said. 'Oh well nope, probably the same already hurt cat then' she thought a little disappointed but a little relieved that they won't have to cut off a wild mini cat duel. Simon took off his dress robe, getting ready and comfortable to climb. She decided she should to, as she removed hers and threw it aside. She really hoped this skirt wouldn't make it uncomfortable for her to climb.
"Yeah, just got to hold on for a bit." She added frowning as she looked for a way to get on the first branch.
"Here, let me help you get up on that branch. Then you can help me and pull me up" She looked at the boy who had already placed his hands together in a way she could step on it as he could push her upwards. She gave him a stiff nod and a confident smile.
"Teamwork makes the dream work, right?"
She stepped on his hands heaving herself upwards, hoping she wouldn't be too heavy for the boy, and set her arms on the branch trying to totally pull herself onto it.
When she finally did, she turned around looking now down at Simon slightly smiling an eyebrow raised,
"Need a Hand?" She said offering him hers.

"Teamwork makes the dream work, right?", said Willow.
"We're about to figure that out." It may have sounded more pessimistic than he had intended. He was quite sure that the hurt cat was in capable hands with the help of someone like Willow. He had seen her in class. "Okay, I'm ready."
She stepped on his hands, the heel of her muddy black leather shoe digging into the palm of his hand, and gave her a lift. Willow must have been quite strong; with little effort she quickly managed to wrap her legs around the branch and pull herself up. Simon was still unused to his rapidly growing body and realized he needed momentum in order to be able to swing his legs up onto the branch.
"Need a hand?", said Willow and for a moment she looked almost like a superheroine. He realized that he was not used to looking up on people at his age (they were usually shorter and looking up on him). However, it was not the height difference but her self-confidence that made his own confidence falter as he met her steady gaze.
"Yeah, just pull me up as soon as I get my ankles around the branch", Simon instructed her before preparing his move. With a jump he got a hold of the branch before swinging his legs around it and got pulled up in the shadows of the lush foliage.
He brushed the dirt off his hands while his legs dangled from the branch. Simon had not been climbing trees for over a year at least, and realized he had to struggle to find the balance.
"Thanks", said Simon and smiled for a moment. "You've clearily done this before, haven't you?"

Willow does as instructed and pulls Simon up onto the branch.
"Thanks", he said struggling a bit to find his balance. She flashed him a smile before he continued, "You've clearly done this before, haven't you?"
"Oh well yeah. I'd usually climb the trees to read or write, it's not easy with the pestering of my brothers..." She said feeling the need to explain as she thought it might sound weird if she climbed trees for no reason. Or not. 'Whatever' she slightly shook her head as if shooing her thoughts away.
Willow then proceeded to slowly steady herself up the branch, so she was standing on it. Carefully placed her hand on the trunk making sure she was stable. she looked up at the second branch that could rise them higher and closer to the cats.
'Well this one's not going to be easy' She grabbed the top of the branch that was right above their heads 'really tricky' She frowned slightly and bit her lips. It was just like a pull up. The only problem was the "Bar" wasn't really easy to totally grasp to; her hands were like barely grasping half the branch. If she wasn't able to make it, she was- 'Let's not think of that' She cut of her own overflowing thoughts, trying to stay positive and not think of all the bad consequences that this could result in.
Took a deep breath and let her feet hover of the previous branch...

"Oh well yeah. I'd usually climb the trees to read or write, it's not easy with the pestering of my brothers...", said Willow.
That was exactly what Simon used to do in the lime trees in the grounds around his home back in Edinburgh. After all, he was named after those trees, with Tilia coming from the latin word for lime tree. He clearly had inherited his great great grandfathers love for them.
"I get what you mean. I use to read in the trees now and then, myself. Although I did not have anyone pestering me", said Simon and thought of his self-occupied squib sister.
'Brothers'. Simon wondered how many brothers she had. A sudden image of Willow sitting in a tree with her nose in a book with a line of brothers running around the tree in a circle, like bear cubs, popped into his head. He silently chuckled to himself before Willow stood up on the branch.
"Well this one's not going to be easy", she said.
He looked up and analyzed the dangerous way up, realizing they were most likely going to damage their school uniforms, and with Willow only having a skirt on her lower body she was probably going to get some scratch marks and bruises on her legs, so he offered her to take the easier path, which meant going for the hurt cat:
"What if you go for the little one? And I can try and hold off that bigger cat", Simon said. The large cat starred back at him with devilish eyes and he swallowed.

"I get what you mean. I used to read in the trees now and then, myself. Although I did not have anyone pestering me" Willow smiled and chuckled as he said that. 'Well, that's something we have in common then I guess. Minus the pestering brothers...'
She looked up, a worried expression on her face, as a cat peeked down at them with a sour look on its face. She guessed it to be "The Predator cat", she frowned, glaring daggers at it. Simon then said "What if you go for the little one? And I can try and hold off that bigger cat."
Willow looked at him, the worrisome look back on her face. He wasn't looking at her but at the evil cat. She didn't know what to say or do, a knot formed in her stomach; she didn't want him to get hurt.
She held her breath for a second as chills ran down her back. She then looked quite uncertain and asked the Ravenclaw, "Are you sure you can handle it? Do you have any experience with cats?" It's not like She had any, again she was not a cat person, but she didn't want the boy she had just met to risk putting himself in danger getting the savage cat.
She looked up at the tree branches and added, "You know what? Let's worry about that when we're up there, but for now I guess we can worry about being able to get Up in the first place." She grabbed the branch above her, swallowed, before using it as like she was getting out of the public pool. She sat on it and quickly held onto the trunk for support as she looked down at the branch where Simon was still.
"Come on" She smiled as she motioned her head upwards to where the cats were. "No time to waste, we have a cat to save"
