Divided by House, United by Friendship PV Madison Bennett Finished

As Madison walked into the Great Hall on her first day, she'd never seen so much food in her life! As she sat down on the right side of the Hufflepuff table, (If you look at it from the end nearest the doors and not the end closest to the stage area where the teachers sit) she was greeted by an array of foods but immediately went for the freshly baked cinnamon and vanilla buns as well as a glass of orange juice and some fruit. She talked a little bit with some of the other people on her table, though they were soon interrupted by the sound of Owl wings and screeches. Madison stood up and held out her arm to receive her family owl Avery Hawksworth, after a famous English Quidditch player, who gave her a letter from her dad and mum plus one from her little sister Reagan. Madison smiled and placed the letters into her cloak pocket since she wanted to read them later. As she turned around to let Avery go, she spotted the boy who'd been in the boat with her, Simon Tilia, and smiled as Avery flew off her arm after she had given him a treat to say thank you. She finished her juice and put a few of the cinnamon and vanilla buns into her pocket for later as Simon came over and said hello.

"Good morning, Madison", said Simon and smiled: "So. You got sorted into Hufflepuff, after all."


"Good morning to you too Simon and yes I did" she says, a slight blush painting her cheeks. "I see you got sorted into Ravenclaw though, what did you think of the common room when you first saw it?" she asked.

Madison stood in front of the benches whilst talking to Simon and smiled as she was very happy to see him after their chat and first meeting yesterday. She had her half of her hair up in a ponytail and then the rest of it down, with a yellow ribbon tied around at the top of her ponytail. She also had her top button undone but she pushed her tie up to make it look like her top button was done up so she didn't get into trouble. She pulled the left sleeve of her cloak down in order to cover her scar

"We start classes today, are you excited?" Madison asks Simon as they stood at the end between the Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw tables since that was where she'd been sitting for breakfast.

Simon took note of the pink shade that spread across her cheeks and hoped he did not embarrass her in front of her new friends. He looked at the Hufflepuffs and smiled politely in the realization that some of the younger-looking ones were probably going to be in his class along with Madison.

"I see you got sorted into Ravenclaw though. What did you think of the common room when you first saw it?", Madison asked.

"I liked it! It's very blue, believe it or not", he smiled jokingly. "We have three-tiered bunkbeds in our dormitory and I got the top shelf, so I was very pleased with that. And we have to solve a riddle each time we enter. The common room, I mean... Not the dormitory. Otherwise it would be really annoying if you had to get up for a bathroom break! How was Hufflepuff?"

Simon was pleased to see that their friendship seemed to remain. Not that it was the easiest thing to decode the intentions and language of girls, but from what he could tell, she did not reject his visit to her table. In a worst case scenario, she would not even have turned around to speak with him, so when she got up, he took that as a confirmation that his company was not unwanted. It appeared indeed as if their friendship had survived the Sorting Ceremony, despite Madison being sorted into Hufflepuff and he in Ravenclaw.

"We start classes today, are you excited?", asked Madison.

"Oh yes, I'm very excited. I'm mostly curious to see what the classes and teachers are gonna be like. As you recall, I went to a Muggle school before and my dad graduated many, many years ago, so I have no idea what to expect, really", he smiled nervously. "I believe we have Charms class first on our schedule. Do you want to go together? Unless you're going with your friends, of course!", he quickly added and gave her a wide smile to show that either option would be completely fine.

Madison giggled and smiled at Simon as they moved slightly away from the table as to not be heard by all the first years.

"I liked it! It's very blue, believe it or not", he smiled jokingly. "We have three-tiered bunk beds in our dormitory and I got the top shelf, so I was very pleased with that. And we have to solve a riddle each time we enter. The common room, I mean... Not the dormitory. Otherwise it would be really annoying if you had to get up for a bathroom break! How was Hufflepuff?"

Madison smiled again and giggled "I can actually believe that it's very blue, it suits you, the colour I mean" she says with a smile. "The Hufflepuff common room is very cosy, loads of plants and cushions everywhere, even a massive fire place!! We don't have bunk beds, but i have a white four poster bed and I decorated it with plants, photos from home, blankets and pillows so it's nice and calming. My dad wasn't joking though when he said that it feels like a burrow, it's pretty cool though, nice and welcoming which made the first night not as scary" she said politely.

"Also, if you're wondering, I didn't reject you coming over because we're friends, just because we're in different houses it doesn't mean we can't be friends and besides, I haven't really made many other friends yet, so you're the main friend I have right now" she said quietly with a smile as to not let the other Hufflepuffs hear her.

"Oh yes, I'm very excited. I'm mostly curious to see what the classes and teachers are gonna be like. Madison giggled "I'm excited too and yes, I do remember you telling me that but don't worry, according to my dad, classes here at Hogwarts, though different to those at a muggle school, do have similar qualities and timings to them" she says with a smile. "No, i'd love to walk to class with you Simon" she says before adding quietly "just relax Simon, i know most boys find the language and intentions of us girls impossible to understand but trust me when I say, I'm not like most girls" she says as they walk to Charms together. "don't forget it was mainly my dad who raised me not my mum, i may be a girl but I don't always act like it" she says with a giggle, blushing after she realises that she may have just said something really stupid and now she may sound like an idiot for what she just said.

"I mean, I act like a girl obviously, it's just when it comes to things like getting dirty during Quidditch or going exploring into new places, I don't get scared too easily by many things" she said with a smile, taking a breath to let Simon talk and so she doesn't overtake the entire conversation they have on the way to their first class.

He reacted when Madison said the word "scary". He had never thought of Hogwarts as a scary place. Was she afraid of being alone, away from her parents? Or perhaps she was scared of the darkness or of ghosts? There were quite a lot of them floating about the castle. Though Hufflepuff's house ghost, the Fat Friar, looked quite friendly – not like the Bloody Baroon or that ghost with a loose head. After all, Madison seemed like a person who could be a little jittery.

"... Just because we're in different houses it doesn't mean we can't be friends and besides, I haven't really made many other friends yet, so you're the main friend I have right now", said Madison quietly, maybe so her fellow Hufflepuffs would not hear her.

"I'm happy to hear that", said Simon, also with a lowered voice, smiling.

Simon felt honored but at the same time he could not help but to feel a little bad for Madison. From the moment he was sorted into Ravenclaw, while Madison already being sorted into Hufflepuff, he felt as if he got sorted into the wrong house. Now that he came to think about it, maybe it was the other way around?

"... Just relax Simon, I know most boys find the language and intentions of us girls impossible to understand but trust me when I say, I'm not like most girls. Don't forget it was mainly my dad who raised me, not my mum. I may be a girl but I don't always act like it."

"No, I know", he said and was about to continue before Madison ellaborated:

"I mean, I act like a girl obviously, it's just when it comes to things like getting dirty during Quidditch or going exploring into new places. I don't get scared too easily by many things."

"Yeah, I mean, I know you are a girl, like you say. You're not boyish. And you're not girlish either, but..." He laughed nervously, unsure where he was getting at. "You're an interesting person, Madison. I guess that's what I'm trying to say." He hoped he had not offended her or said something stupid. "By the way, your colors suit you!" He looked at her school uniform. She was indeed pretty with the yellow details and the yellow ribbon in her hair.

Madison may have looked girly, but she gave another impression as they walked towards Charms class and chatting. So why would she think the first night was going to be scary? But when he came to think about it, his friend Zach was so scared of heights that he had declined the top shelf in the bunkbed for that reason. Maybe Madison was just scared of heights.

Madison smiled and blushed at his compliment and took a deep breath in and out before she and Simon continued talking. "Thank you, also, I know I said scary in terms of describing the first night, but don't worry about it, I guess the word just sort of came out at the wrong time, I don't get scared by much, but there are a few things I am scared of, though maybe talking about it right before Charms isn't the most well timed thing" she said with a giggle. As Madison and Simon stood outside the classroom, other students who Madison knew, saw her, smiled politely and then walked to the opposite side to where Madison was with Simon. Madison took a deep breath in and out again before smiling and turning around to face Simon, bringing up a new topic, Flying!! "I really hope we have Flying class today, in the letter dad wrote to me he said today's conditions are perfect for Flying and he sent a message to the Professor to let them know that I'll be in the class so they know I can help out during classes in terms of people who may not know as much about Flying as I do" she says with a giggle, rubbing the scar on her left hand since it was kind of sore and almost giving a slight burning sensation, though not something she wasn't used to. She just smiled and waited with Simon to be let into Charms class.

"... but there are a few things I am scared of, though maybe talking about it right before Charms isn't the most well timed thing."

"I see. Well, maybe not", Simon said and chuckled.

He felt slightly embarrassed; it was almost as if Madison could read his mind, as if she knew that he was still thinking about that. This was the second time that morning that she had done so. Was she a Legilimens? He had read that some witches and wizards could read other people's minds. But wouldn't she have told him about it if that was the case? On the other hand, that was perhaps not the first thing you would say when meeting new people because that would likely scare them off. Maybe she just had an extraordinary ability to read people and draw conclusions. Until further notice, maybe he did best in being mindful of his thoughts near Madison. After all, he was not ready to spill all his secrets to his new friend just yet.

"I really hope we have Flying class today, in the letter dad wrote to me, he said today's conditions are perfect for Flying and he sent a message to the Professor to let them know that I'll be in the class so they know I can help out during classes in terms of people who may not know as much about Flying as I do", said Madison and scratched her hand.

"Wow. You must be very good then!", said Simon, relieved that the subject was changed. "I don't remember seeing Flying class on the schedule today, but I'm looking forward to see you fly." That was not a lie. He was fascinated by broom flying and he would love to see Madison's skills, but he was still nervous about whether he was any good at it or not. After all, he had been growing so much recently so he was still unused to his new changing body.

"I see. Well, maybe not", Simon said and chuckled.

Madison looked at him and smiled as she felt her cheeks turn pink again, looking at Simon and his changing facial expressions "did I just make you embarrassed or nervous? I didn't mean to, I just seem to be very good at reading people, my mum taught me how to because she is very smart, so I got very good at learning how to read people and read their body language because of her" she said with a giggle.

"Wow. You must be very good then!", said Simon, relieved that the subject was changed. "I don't remember seeing Flying class on the schedule today, but I'm looking forward to see you fly."

"Dang that sucks, but if you'd like, I could give you a lesson myself and then you'd get to see me fly and I could teach you some of the basics of Flying if you'd like" she says with a cute smile. Madison loved being able to show people what she could do, when she flew it was her time to shine and not be stuck in her brothers shadow. She shifted her body weight to the other side and leaned against the wall as they waited.

If there was anything Madison was self conscious about, it was her scar. It was one that, when it healed, looked like the the constellation Aquila, and so she gave it wings on either side to make it look a little nicer. She knew at some point she'd have to tell Simon the reason why she got that scar, but at the moment, she could tell that both of them were still getting over a slight awkward stage, maybe the both of them need to sit down somewhere and just get to know each other, something she was interested in doing, and hoping that Simon would be too.

"It's okay", said Simon, reassuring.

That explained it. But maybe part of the truth lied in the fact that it was not only she who was good at reading people – perhaps he was easy to read. What other facial queues had he given her while they were talking? Girls were scary sometimes... He came to the conclusion that he needed to be mindful of his facial expressions, not just with Madison, but with people in general. After all, this was not primary school anymore. He had already begun experiencing how old friendships became more complex as he and his friends matured (with girls becoming more observant being one of these complexities).

"Dang that sucks, but if you'd like, I could give you a lesson myself and then you'd get to see me fly and I could teach you some of the basics of Flying if you'd like."

"Sure! That sounds like fun!", said Simon with a smile.

Actually, the thought of flying alone with Madison was less scary than flying with Madison in front of their class. If he made a mistake they could always have a laugh about it together. But making a mistake in front of the class and being laughed at in front of Madison only felt humiliating.

"Yeah, I was wondering", said Simon, as he realized that unless he planned something for the evening, he would be completely alone after school. "Would you like to hang out after classes today? Like, go somewhere and explore?"[/quote]

"It's okay", said Simon, reassuring.

Madison smiled and looked at him after tucking some hair behind her ear. "You don't have to hide your expressions around me Simon, honestly, the fact that I am good at reading people is what has scared away friends before and I don't want that to be the reason why we're not friends because I like talking to you, a lot actually" she says, blushing yet again.

"Sure! That sounds like fun!", said Simon with a smile.

"Great, how about some time this week? I'm pretty sure we have no class before Flying tomorrow so we could meet early and I could teach you some basics before class" she says with a giggle, "and don't worry, if you fall off or something happens, like the broom doesn't come to you straight away, don't worry about it, I can teach you some ways to not only keep your balance but to also connect with your broom, it's more important than people think" she says with a smile.

"Yeah, I was wondering", said Simon, as he realized that unless he planned something for the evening, he would be completely alone after school. "Would you like to hang out after classes today? Like, go somewhere and explore?"

Madison smiled and nodded "are you kidding, i'd love to, I have a few secret places my dad told me about that he found when he was here, maybe we'll find somewhere like that together" Madison said with a smile and slight blush in her cheeks. She took one of the cinnamon and vanilla buns out of her pocket and warmed it up using her hands before splitting it in half and giving Simon one half as she eats the other.

"Take it, I took a few from the breakfast table this morning so don't worry about it. Plus, I saw that you were quite enjoying those when I walked into the Great Hall this morning too" she said with a smile as she eats her half of the bun. She was thinking about where Simon would want to explore and whether or not she would have to tell him about her scar sooner than she'd thought...
