As usual, Eun-ji walked into the practice room precisely on time. Coming straight from the library, she was carrying a couple of books and parchments. Seeing their current and former captain caught up in some heated discussion, the witch elected to direct her steps towards a bench and organize her stuff first. This has been quite common occurrence between the two as of late. She didn’t know what happened but at some point, the girls seemed to become somewhat hostile towards each other. However, it was not her place to ask why. Eun-ji didn’t like meddling in other people’s business. As long as it didn’t affect her, she couldn’t be bothered. There was plenty on her plate as it was.

Unfortunately, it turned out today might just be the day when it would indeed affect her. The raven haired girl was just grabbing her wand when she heard Sam’s strange suggestion. Why would they all gang up on one person? That was not something that was usually done and she even said it was to practice Dee’s dodging skills. This was especially odd since Dee was already pretty good at it. Wouldn’t it make more sense to use someone, who was not so they could improve? Not that it would make the situation any better. In fact, it would be even more dangerous but at least it would make sense. Besides, Eun-ji was quite perceptive and could clearly hear the challenge in their voices. Frowning, she paused in her actions. Eun-ji generally respected her captains but this just felt wrong. There was no way it would end well.

As if the single target practice wasn’t enough, Dee decided to pocket her wand. Even if this was a practice to see how well she could dodge, having a wand in her hand felt like a security blanket, she should have. “I think I’ll join practicing a bit later if that’s okay. I really need to finish one assignment. I should be done soon.” By join later, Eun-ji of course meant ‘when you are done messing around and possibly endangering each other.’ This was the best she could do. She was not about to outright protest. It was not her responsibility to keep order here. That was the captains’ job.

To her relief, it appeared Callie was also subtly unwilling to follow the strange instructions. She did not disagree either but she did suggest Sam should join her to mimic the actual duels. It was a decent try but it was hard to tell whether she'd succeed. Callie might have not been eager about the proposition but Sam could be very stubborn and some of the other duellists lived for the thrill. She didn’t doubt there would be someone, who had no issues with their captain’s suggestion. Especially since Dee herself was obviously quite willing to go along with it. Reckless... It took a huge effort for Eun-ji not to shake her head. Well in any case, there was not much she could do. For now, she decided to simply observe from afar.

Almost all of the duelists had already joined them in the dueling club. However, Callie ran in late, something Samantha had learned to expect from the older student. During her time on the team, she noticed Callie had a habit of showing up late. Being quite punctual herself, the brunette wasn't too much of a fan of it but when the older girl came in late today, she just smiled at her. In the end, better late was better than not showing up at all.

Dealla wasn't stupid and Samantha knew that. That the ex-captain agreed to play along in her little game, showed that she was overconfident or that she was actually going to be fine. The third year really hoped it wasn't the latter, as that would be super embarrassing for her. With a smile, she concealed the nerves that Dee's confident reaction had caused.

In her little plan, Samantha hadn't really considered the reactions of her teammates. So when Callie questioned her idea, she looked at the girl in surprise, too stunned to speak. "Uhm," she watched as Callie spun her wand. "We do fight two opponents indeed," she said slowly, trying to buy herself time to think. If she didn't join, she would seem weak. But if she did join and got hit more often than Dealla, she would never hear the end of it. "But you know, I am the captain and I need to be able to give you guys tips on how to aim better!" she explained, quite happy with her little excuse.

However, when Dealla pocketed her wand and confidently asked who was first, the young girl changed her mind. Dee would see through her excuse. Besides, she was sure she would be able to do better than the older girl. "Actually, I will join Dealla," she announced as she too pocketed her wand and followed the other. Eun-ji didn't seem to like the special target training that was happening and excused herself with the excuse of an assignment.

"Hit me with your best shot," she told the others. "Fire away," the muggle-born smiled, wondering if any of the other students knew the song she was referring to.
Feel free to have your character cast any dueling spells they want at Sam. You can roll for your character's accuracy and then I can roll for Samantha's eva ^^ Let the chaos begin

Pericles had always been something of a phantom, quiet and withdrawn, lurking on the sidelines. He had a go at the model student life as a prefect and duel captain, sleuthing his way into the schemes around school. But Peri reverted back to hermitage before he could fly too close to the sun. A bad run-in with his boggart in the third year, and one too many near-death experiences, led the odd heir to resume a quieter attendance. He minded his business, kept to himself, taking up the role of a quiet observer. Less speaking meant more listening. That being said, the change in interactions between Dealla and Samantha wasn't lost on him.

Pericles was immensely fond of the Ravenclaw Duel Team. Even when he withdrew from all other extracurriculars, including the beloved headliner, his dedication to the team remained the only constant. Practice was one of the few times he mingled with a larger group these days. He had been especially silent over the past couple weeks, though for those who caught the smell of mandrake leaf on his breath, they'd glean the reason why: he had begun the initial process of an animagi transformation. Leaf under his tongue, he was extremely mindful in all things, be it eating, drinking, talking, even casting. He'd loath to start over again. The herby taste was getting old.

"Any volunteers?" Pericles blinked back to the present as Sam spoke. He looked lost until she added, "Maybe Dealla. You always say you are such a good duelist, this is the perfect moment for you to prove it! Or are you too scared?" The boy frowned in Dee's direction, unsurprised at her answer. "Sure. It's been a while since I got in some decent dodging practice. Who's first?" Like Eun-Ji, he was reluctant to join in, though Callie managed to make things much more interesting with a suggestion: “Wait, on her own? But we fight two opponents at once in duels? You should join her Sam, it’ll be fun!”

"Uhm," Eyes were on Sam. She could tell she'd put herself in the spotlight of her Team, that a chance at picking on Dee had backfired badly, forcing her to prove she could be just as bold. "We do fight two opponents indeed, but you know, I am the captain and I need to be able to give you guys tips on how to aim better!" Pericles arched his eyebrows. Some dubious side-eyes were passed, then the captain rose to the challenge after all, announcing "Actually, I will join Dealla." Doubt turned to respect. He smiled, tentatively satisfied, and drew his wand from his belt. "What are the rules?" He spoke quietly, but clear, mindful not to dislodge the mandrake leaf. There had to be guidelines when casting at others, right? He would wait to hear them before casting his first spell, aimed at the one who suggested the exercise in the first place.

"Ah! So you aren't a coward after all, Sam!" Callie joked with a wide grin. "Besides, you need practice just as much as the rest of us! Lets do it." This entire situation was odd and generally reeked, although Callie wasn't going to pass up a good opportunity to get some practice in. At the very least she had spared Dealla enduring all of this on her own. Something was certainly going on but it wasn't exactly Callie's place to say anything.

For her gently abusing Thomas and Elias was simply part of daily life but this felt different. It felt like there was some sort of malice behind it. But at the end of the day was Callie bold enough to call out something like this outright? Not in the slightest! She was just here to duel! Those two could exist at each others throats if they wanted. As long as they didn't interfere with Callie's snacks she didn't especially care all that much.

Unfortunately Callie did not have the same manners that Pericles did. She did not at all ask for the pesky rules and regulations and instead launched directly into her very first spell. Specifically aimed at the very person who had suggested this entire ordeal as her own attempt at a special form of payback. As she worked Callie rocked gently back and forth on her feet. Throughout all of her duels she could hardly stay still. Practice wasn't any different.

"Me? A coward? Never!" she replied fake offended. "Rules?" Quite honestly, Samantha didn't have any idea. When it was just Dee being targeted, she didn't really care for it, but now she was a target as well, the rules were a lot more important. "Just make sure we don't get knocked out?" she suggested. "Also, when we say we want to stop, we stop," she added. The brunette hoped the answers were to Pericles' satisfaction because she couldn't think of anything else. "I think that's it?"

Callie seemed really excited about this exercise and was the first to cast a spell. Unlike Sam's expectations the spell was aimed at her, it seemed like her plan was backfiring. Luckily for her, the captain saw the incoming spell and was able to dodge it with ease. Not having to cast her own spell made it a lot easier to avoid getting hit. "Callie?!" she yelled out in surprise. "Why did you have to do that?" The girl acted like she hadn't just volunteered to be a target.

Apparently, she was the favorite target of the team as Peri also aimed for her. Seriously, what had she done to deserve this? It was impossible to dodge the spell of the older student and the flipendo hit her right in the stomach. "Jeez," she looked over at Pericles. "You could have also picked another spell! I would rather be blindfolded," she rolled her eyes.

Once the challenge had been issued there had been no backing out, not really. Anyone who knew Dee could have predicted it; Pericles certainly had, and probably most other members of the Ravenclaw duelling team as well. No one told her it was a bad idea, even if the thought was written on more than one face; it would have been pointless, anyway.

But Dee couldn't deny that her heart swelled at least three sizes when the team's - her team's, even if she wasn't their captain anymore - immediate reaction wasn't to simply go along with was clearly meant to be a setup to humiliate her. (Whether it would have been successful remained to be determined.) Instead, Callie issued the counter-challenge that Dee was too proud to even consider; forcing Sam's hand as certainly as Sam had forced Dee's.

An eyebrow rose on Dee's face, then the corners of her mouth followed, as Samantha stumbled her way through a half-hearted attempt at refusing, before giving in to her own pride and joining Dealla at the centre. "Careful, Sam," she called to the freshly made captain. "I don't remember you being too quick on your feet. Sure you want to do this?"

The words were empty, neither of them was likely to back down. And even with the additional target, Dee was fully expecting spells to come her way as well... Except they didn't. Peri, thoughtful as ever, questioned the rules, and the extent of Sam's preparation (or lack thereof) showed in her hastily issued set of requests. Well. They would do. But when the spells came flying, none of the initial attacks were aimed at Dee.

Feeling partially surprised but mostly entertained, Dee watched Samantha dodge Callie's singing jinx (a shame, that was), just to get perfectly sniped by Pericles' Flipendo. Surprised laughter bubbled up her throat, and she winked at her former co-captain. "Nice aim, Peri," she commented. "Have you been practising over summer?" The next words were meant for Sam more than anyone else, and they were accompanied by a smile that was dripping condescension. "Perhaps you should go easy on our little captain. She's so new, you'll scare her off."
