Skimming the Shelves
Ezekiel appreciated Sonya’s kind words to him. He understood how hard it would be to have never met your mother. Ezekiel couldn’t bear the thought. He missed his mother every day, but never sharing those memories with her? Never reading the stories he now held in his arms? Never learning about magic with her? Those are things only his mother could do, and Ezekiel couldn’t imagine losing that.
Suddenly, Sonya pulled Ezekiel into a hug. He froze at first, then slowly responded by putting his arms around her as well. He missed hugs. Soon, he felt a little awkward, so he pulled away. ”Thanks for not being wierded out by this,” he said, a smile tugging at his mouth. ”I’m glad that there’s someone out there who can relate. Not that that’s good thing! I mean, um, I wouldn’t want your mum to die at all! I wish she wouldn’t have so that you could see her, but I was just sayin' it’s good to have somebody to talk to.” He smiled nervously. What was he supposed to do? He hadn’t talked about this to anybody else in a long time.
”So.... um.... where ya from?” He laughed. "Kinda hard to change the subject from that stuff, huh?" He struggled to smile, as anxiety began crawling back up again, only this time it was stronger. Still, he began pushing it back down.

Sonya awkwardly released from the hug and listened to Ezekiel talk and nodded and smiled. It was true, although it never happening would be preferred, having someone to talk to about these things was nice. She couldn't help but let out a small giggle as the boy was quite awkward trying to change subjects. She quickly responded in an attempt to lessen the awkwardness.
"It is, I usually try to skim over it," she smiled, "I live in Waterford, Ireland. It's pretty small and a lot of it is quite old, but still nice. My house is small, it's just me and my father, and it's cozy. There are also a lot of really good restaurant nearby. We travel lots too, so that's always fun. We usually go to New York, where my aunt from my mother's side and her children live, at least twice a year." She grinned as she talked about home.
Waterford was a really nice place and it was familiar to her, so that comforted her, and she brought up New York because it was just like a second home to her. She had some of the best memories there and thinking of those always brought a smile to her face. "How about you?" she asked, wanting to know more about Ezekiel.

"Ireland? Me too! Although, I live pretty far from ya. Kilkee's where my home is, me and me dad." Ezekiel smiled. His Irish accent always became heavy (heavier, at least) when he talked about home. He liked this girl, and enjoyed talking to her about their similarities. The only friends he had were muggles, so he was alone at Hogwarts. Hopefully, this conversation meant friendship.
He continued on: "Actually, I used to live in Ennis. Once me mum died, though, Dad and I wanted to move to the shore, so we went to Kilkee. It's smaller than Ennis, but that's what makes it special. Everyone knows each other, and the beach is always a pleasure."
He remembered the beach of Kilkee, how his father only moved there to bring his son back into the light from the shuddering darkness that was loss. He enjoyed the waves, the sand. Sometimes, he could catch a sailboat headed to or from the docks. His father would take him fishing off the cliffs on some weekends, and he could still remember his excited leaps whenever he caught "a biggie". "The beach was the best part about it," he said, quietly. And as he spoke, he could here the faint sound of waves crashing on a shore far away.

Sonya could hear Ezekiel's Irish accent come out stronger as he excitedly spoke about his home. The strong accent reminded her of home and she smiled. "There's a few nice beaches near Waterford too," she smiled, "My uncles, they live in Bunmahon, have a boat and it's always fun to go out on that in the summer. I've always liked to collect shells on the beach as well." She had a good collection of pretty shells at home, with good memories attached to them. She loved going out to Bunmahon to stay with her uncles in the summer, there was usually pretty decent weather and as stated before, the beach was great.
Sonya was enjoying the conversation with Ezekiel, and hoped that they were friends. It would be kind of weird to not be friends after learning all the similarities between them. He was extremely nice and it was nice to have someone with shared experience. In her mind she decided that they were friends and just hoped he felt the same way.
She glanced around the library and saw that they were getting a few odd looks, it must look slightly odd, with them just standing and talking in the library. She glanced at the clock. It would actually be a good time to go to the rehearsal room, one of her favorite places in Hogwarts. "Would you mind if we continued our chat elsewhere?" she asked, hoping wouldn't mind coming along with her, as she was enjoying their conversation.

Ezekiel smiled as the young girl before him spoke of family at home. As she spoke of going out on a boat that a family member owned, he wished he could have had the experience of seeing the water up close. Ezekiel's father could never afford a boat, let alone tickets to get on one. He often daydreamed of being out on the ocean, watching fish up close and looking out on the horizon. It would have been nice. Maybe one day, Ezekiel thought.
Ezekiel snapped out of his daydreaming when Sonya proposed to go somewhere else. He looked around and noticed people were looking at them chatting in the shelves. Some people seemed a bit irritated, and some even showed it clearly. Anxiety shot straight up his back and gave a slight shiver up his spine. The library wasn't the best place to have a conversation.
"Yeah, I think moving would be good." Ezekiel held up the book he had. "I'll check this out first, then we can go somewhere else." Ezekiel began walking towards the librarian's desk, Sonya following close behind him. Once he reached the desk, he checked his book, then turned to face Sonya.
"Alright, you lead the way."
