Mellani smiled at the compliment, slightly blushing. She really wasn't used to being complimented. Sometimes, she too wondered how the potion would smell for her, but she knew she couldn't just barge in on Professor Regan and ask for it, so she decided to wait for when the time came. She didn't much care about it anyways. She just thought that it might help her know herself a bit better.

She smiled as Linda gave her to go ahead to open the gift and opened it eagerly. Inside was a letter and a knitted vase with flowers. Mellani immediately beamed, her dimple clearly visible at that moment. "This is beautiful! You're amazing at knitting, thanks so much! I wish I could repay you somehow.", Mellani said, looking at the knitted vase. She really wished she was as good as Linda at knitting and was as thoughtful as Linda to give someone such a beautiful gift.

Mellani then went on to read the letter. Mellani slowly blushed a deep shade of red as she read the letter. No one had complimented her ever so much before. Mellani had quickly forgotten about the detention on the previous day, something that she hadn't thought was possible. Linda was just so, so, so sweet! Mellani quickly tore a plain page out of her sketchbook and took out a pen (yes, a pen, not a quill), and started writing. She found it easier to write what she felt rather than speak it.

Dear Linda,
You're positively one of the sweetest people I've ever met and I'd love to be besties, even though it might take a long time. You made me feel better on a day when I was feeling down without even talking about the reason why I wasn't in a great mood. Thanks for everything that you do!

It wasn't much, but it was something. Mellani smiled while giving the letter to Linda, hoping that she would like the letter. Mellani hoped she hadn't messed anything up.

Mellani looked at Linda when she asked if she should make more gifts. The question puzzled her. She wasn't used to people asking her if she wanted more gifts, and she wasn't sure how to reply to Linda's question. Mellani knew that she herself wouldn't be able to make gifts for Linda, due to not knowing what to do, and she knew that if Linda kept giving her gifts and she didn't give one back, she would seem like a selfish and rude person, even though she had no intention of that. She wondered if she should ask Linda not to make gift, but then, she would sound ungrateful and rude.

Finally, she decided to go with a neutral reply. Not a yes, but not exactly a no either. "I mean... It's up to you.", she replied.

Mellani looked at Linda as she read the letter and smiled. Linda seemed to like it a lot, and Mellani was glad she did. "Of course!", Mellani replied, beaming. She knew that she wouldn't open up to Linda much. Not now, anyways, but she was glad that Linda was ready to accept her as she was, even if it was as a muggle-born girl who was quiet almost all the time. She continued to smile as she thought of how different Linda was from all her other friends.
