It's Just A Duel

Bea gritted her teeth as that damn spell came her way and hit her. The flash of light was blinding but the effect instant. Her legs went sweeping away from her control, and she went about the piste in a elegant sweep of one-sided waltz. She wanted to scream her frustration, berate Avery for his stupid spell, but she held her tongue. It wouldn't do any good to her for him to see her so frustrated. It would only fuel his ego even more.
It seemed her missing her spell already had. Which made Bea clench her jaw even more. Insufferable first year. Had Bea been like that? Surely not. She'd been a quiet thing, sitting reading her books and eating her sweets. Not picking fights with upperclassmen to show her worth. Because she already knew it and didn't need some duel to prove it. No matter how good it felt when you defeated an opponent.
Turning her head to glare at him while she completed her third sweep in the steps, Bea stuck her tongue out at him. "Don't worry Leveret. This is only a complication. I believe this will all end how I want it to. Because if nature is right, Eagles eat little Snakes like you. I'll destroy you."

Duration:[d3: 3] = 2 RoundsDate | Feb 5th, 2023Both sides seemed tired, though from where Monica was sitting, Avery carried the worst of it, yet neither were backing down, duelling to the fullness of their strength! It was rather impressive to watch.
Though Bea was yet again struck with dancing feet, turning the piste into her own private dance club, she was able to aim well and true, catching the Slytherin boy on fire, with a very strong Inciendo duo! He was hurt, badly, but seemed like he was still in this thing, though a flamed, he shot back his own Flipendo, Knocking Bea back hard, her feet still bopping around upon impact. Monica winced, it looked like it hurt a lot. Avery was clearly showing he was a force to be wrecked with, though he was on fire, and very exhausted, he had just as much power as he did at the start of this thing.
With the duel nearly at a close, though it seemed that the winner was chosen, Monica held her breath, after all, nothing was over until it truly was, and if anything was shown through this match, it was that both Beatrice and Avery were capable duellist, able to make the best out of a worst situation. And this duel would surely be one for the history books, even though it was unofficial, their spirits in this match was real, and tension built in the chamber would be enough to keep a million people on the edge of their seats.Information

┏ ┓----- Once again, Langstreth had found a way to flawlessly execute a spell amidst the humps and bumps of her dancing legs.
Avery glowered in an almost quizzical manner, how on Merlin’s good earth did she manage to pull off a move like that? He had seen it done similarly, by Alan Vanes in their one on one practice, but this was the second time and almost as impressive, or perhaps more. He was a sixth year, and not dancing, and she was a second year; dancing! It was infuriating, like a flame burned inside his chest; flushing his face red with anger; until of course she struck him squarely with her powerful Incendio Duo which actually sent the boy backwards a step or two; falling to one knee in a less than graceful moment of weakness. His body kowtowed to the sheer arcane prowess and accuracy of his upperclasswoman, and he had on his hands what he had come for; a meaningful, worthwhile fight that would stay with him for some time.
A primal roar escaped him as he burned.
The olive green sweater was perforated and the hole that was left was marred with the remnant of flame; singed and blackened like coal that fuelled the embers. His sunday shirt had caught too, now bearing his naked skin to the world; though it was assailed by frenzied flame. His reaction wasn’t to flap and wail, his yell grew into a growl as he focused on turning that pain into fuel; if he had not learned the skillful move Beatrice had made, he would indeed have learned about himself. - It was an unsettling sight indeed, a young boy, on fire, with a temper to rival it.
He powered through any pain and forced himself upward, thrusting out his wand at his opponent with death-dealing intent; arcane magics were summoned by his expertly enacted wand movement and a most callous cry: “Flipendo!” He gave with all his might, a spell that would most certainly be felt in the rafters.

It's Just A Duel
The end was nigh. Bea could feel it. Whether it was her sixth sense kicking in, intuition or just experience from previous duel one, one duel, Bea knew the finale was coming up. She just had to make it through this round.
Taking a deep breath, for she would be calm, not some crazed lunatic that Avery ir Monica had seen her as. She counted the timing for the waltz steps. One, two, three. One, two, three. On the second three she let power from her wand fly, landing a powerful Incendio duo at Avery. She watched as the flames ripped through his jumper, landing on the skin beneath. She breathed an internal sigh of relief. Just as a witty comeback was on her tongue for her opponent, he launched his own spell.
The knockback jinx was powerful, Avery clearly not ready to give up. The yell accompanying it was just as powerful. Bea faltered, her eyes going wide as Avery's response. It was a sight for sure. Blackened and burnt, flames leaping across him as he roared his physical and mental pain. The spell made her take a few steps back, but thankfully she didn't going flying. A look of contemplation crossed her faced. This was seriously it. Now or never.

23 < 29 (MISS)Date | Feb 5th, 2023To call this duel a nail bitter was an under-statment, Monica couldn't believe how well both parties were fighting. Such skill, and control, focus. Avery wasted no time, just barely mustering enough strength to put himself out, good thing too, it might not have been good had he tried to throw another spell at Bea while still set on fire.
As the flames calmed, Monica could see Bea's eyes, though the dancing continued, she was able to throw a well casted Flipendo. Was this it? Would the match be set here?
The dancing slowed as the words flew out of her mouth, her want lighting up and the spell darted across the piste, directed at Avery, but this boy, though was exhausted, still had more fight in him! And in an amazing turn, he was able to get out of harms way of the spell, though just by an inch or so, non the less still impressive! Monica nearly leaped from her seat, "What a play!" She couldn't help but say. Against all odds, Avery was still standing, perhaps he would see it to the end of the rounds? Time was ticking faster down, it really wasn't long now to go.Information

This wasn't fair! She'd missed her spell. By inches!! She was pissed. It could have been the end of this, especially as Avery seemed battered, bruised and burnt. His yell though, it was terrifying. Her concentration was Through her dancing footsteps she could see that he'd cast a successful extinguo on himself. The smoke was still coming off his seared clothes, the remains hanging like a limp charcoal blanket. There was surely no repairing that thing. It would have to be trashed. The boy himself wasn't faring much better, but Bea knew he'd be able to get medical attention after this. In all honesty, she'd elect herself to drag the boy to the Hospital Wing. She'd get Monica to help her. At least with a prefect, it wouldn't look at suspicious. All that was needed to be done, was win this duel.
Bea raised her wand, ready for another offensive against the Slytherin and she relished the outcome of this next round. Hopefully she would be able to say she'd won. She raised her brow at Avery, a smirk gracing her lips. "You alright there Leveret? Need to me to take you to the Hospital Wing? I can arrange it if you want?"

┏ ┓----- This was turning out to be a nail biter.
As her arcane dart bolted for him, an ephemeral clarity struck him and he began to move without thought or devised cunning. Avery was sure that this was about survival, a fight or flight moment that he would certainly not repel. Dark eyes were on her as he heard the call of her incantation, and they followed the glowing blue bolt that grew from her wand-tip. Peril was in pursuit of him, and she was its architect.
She was the cause of great ambivalence, and he knew now that although this was first thought to be a practice; it was now to be perceived as a humbling on both accounts that would fuel them both for a time to come. Though now, in this moment, when he could sense that his moment was coming; he jolted sidewards and the blast of her knockback jinx sailed past his face and struck a wall in the distance.
Even Monica remarked on the deftness that he had performed that dodge with. It came to him then, like a flame in the dark. His mind had mapped a way out of this, and it would take significant skill to pull off.
”Oh I thought we were over the childish jeering.” He jabbed back, the irony of his statement wasn’t lost on him.
It was all to play for, blood was in the water and neither would back down; butting both heads and wands. – He had a rocky relationship with his wand, and so he tightened his grip as though willing it to submit to him and carry out his most calculated and malevolent magic yet; for it was needed if he were to take the reputation he so sought.

9 < 30 (MISS)Date | Feb 5th, 2023Monica sat, ready to call the duel at any moment. Avery looked pretty tired, and worn down, but still seemed good enough to fight, but barely. Plus the duel was coming very close to the end anyways.
As the duellist squared off against each other, Monica was so sure things would end here. And yet, like the entirety of this duel thus far, nothing happened as planned. Bea seemed first to strike, with great power, and pose behind her cast. Uttering the Knockback Jinks so well, Monica nearly pre-called the whole game, but the Ravenclaw maybe was too confident, or maybe something got in her eye, because her spell went way off course, no where near the Slytherin boy. Taking the clear chance, Avery seemed ready to hit Bea yet again with a dancing feet spell, at this point if it ain't broke, why fix it? But Bea, being still more agile at the present moment, managed to get herself out of harms way, but just by a hair.
Not really the best round for either casters, but they didn't have long to go now. The last round was upon them, though Monica wasn't sure how this duel would end, she was more than thrilled to see it take place!Information

It was like Avery didn't want this to end. Why couldn't he stay still long enough for Bea to hit him. She was sure her spell was going to hit. Right up until the last second, she was so sure, but then, "ACHOO!" A sudden sneeze, coming out of nowhere made her flick her wrist in the completely wrong direction. She watched with utter embarrassment as her spell flung itself off-course. Red hot heat filled her cheeks and she knew her face would be as red as a tomato. Just the ammo Leveret needed.
She was only thankful in this moment that because she was watching so intently that she could see Avery poised to strike. The second his spell left his wand, she dodged, twisting her body in some incomprehensible way so the spell didn't hit her. She whipped her head around to stare accusingly at Avery. "Tarantallegra? Really? Want me to do ballet for you Leveret?" The dancing feet spell had to be one of her more detested spells, more for the fact that Bea didn't like dancing in front of others. No amount of peer pressure would make her feet move. So being forced to in front of an opponent because of magic. Detestable.

┏ ┓----- He too had recognised that Bea’s incoming spell was surely going to hurt.
Avery was worn, this wasn’t his first duel but it was definitely the closest and most intense of the bunch. Beatrice had recognised the intensity of it too, and she yearned, boy he could tell she yearned to see him ground down, trodden by her experience, she deeply desired to prove something; though he didn’t know if it was to herself or him. Probably the latter; she’d heard his interest in duelling, and then she offered herself for practice to test his worth. There was something in that, he couldn’t quite figure it out but he could see it in her eye, here and now.
Then, of course, the sneeze came. Fortunately, though rather annoyingly, her aim was skewed because of it. Of course he’d have liked to have thought that it was due to his skill in dodging that he avoided such a concussive blast, or that she had miscast it altogether; a sneeze was a neat excuse, a coverup. He’d fired his own spell back at her, another dancing jinx just to make it that much more difficult to hit him and she quipped at it, another coverup; draw the focus away from her pathetic sneeze. He had to credit her, she was smarter than she looked…
“Well, I very much doubt you had lessons. - I am just educating you with some, class.” He gave, laboured. Avery looked battered, the flames had ruined his sweater and shirt, a sheen of sweat sat below some unkempt hair and atop flushed cheeks. Tightening his grip in his wand he planned again, raising it in preparation for the next, and final round. How might this end? He knew how he wanted it to go, though he also knew they were running out of time; to infuriate, embarrass or to exceed expectations, those were his options and even now he looked unsure, in the penultimate moments of their battle.
