The sun was almost set, at the point under the horizon that made the entire night sky a burning orange. Minimal clouds reflected the light into dazzling sunrays upon the drying ground. Fall has certainly fallen upon the Grounds of Hogwarts, and with it the excitement of Halloween.

The children had already been led from the Great Hall to the campsite, located just a short walk into the Forbidden Forest. Escorted by Adelaide Ayers herself, the children who signed up for tonight's adventure seemed eager, though a few turned to worry as the group entered the dakr forest.

Once could still squint their eyes and see the burning lights of Hogwarts castle behind them. But the greater light was coming from a massive bonfire that had been built in a hole in the ground. It was an interesting concept, the forest tip was only a foot or so above ground level, as the rest of the 10 foot bonfire has been placed in a hole to burn. This, although sacrificing a bit of warmth, would allow the children to sit in a large circle around the fire and still be able to see the face of the one across from them, instead of a raging inferno.

This was in the center of the campsite, where the group now stood. Around them in the large clearing of forest they occupied, were numerous jet black tents that had been erected before the students arrival. Each could contain up to four children, and they would get to pick their froups much later on.

For now, Adelaide took a spot by the fire, sitting crossed legged in her black skinny jeans and tucked in orange blouse. She attempted to fit the theme in her clothing, and hoped the students would enjoy it.

The students were, at this alevent, allowed to wear street clothes, if they so wished, rather than their school robes. Some would come in jeans, others in robes, and perhaps some would skip a step and coming directly in their pajamas. Either way, Halloween costumes were, unfortunately barred at this event, just in case there end up some confusion of enemy in the dark forest.

However that was surely unlikely. Adelaide had warded and protected the area hours before, and she would be checking the wards throughout the night. She did not want any unwelcome Intruders tonight. Any danger that came the children's way would surely be intended. Adelaide chuckled at the thought.

"Accio, Marshmallow!" Adelaide exclaimed, ND instantly a sugary fluff ball zoomed into her hand from a nearby, but just out of reacher, wooden table, where marshmallows, crackers, chocolates and assorted drinks were displayed.

"Come sit by the fire kids! Enjoy some refreshments, and maybe practice your accio charm with the snacks set up over there!"

She pointed her wand at her marshmallow and then let go of it, it floated there in the air and she moved her wand towards the fire, the marshmallow moved with it, until it was enveloped by fire, waiting for Adelaide to take it out before it burned.

"We will be spending the night out here as you all know. Let's start out with setting the scene, eh? The Forbidden Forest is full of scary creatures, does anyone have any scary stories to share?"
If you have a scary story, go ahead and share it! If someone else tells a story before you, that's fine! Go ahead and tell yours as well!

Gathering outside with the other students, Devina headed to the campsite. Soon it would be dark and surely there would be other creatures. The thought made Devina even more excited to participate in the event. What person wouldn't want to spend the night in a creepy, dark forest? Obviously some, but Devina was not one of them. The thrill of a good fright was quite fun, Some creatures in the Forbidden Forest were surely dangerous, but Devina did not worry about this; if anything happened, they were in the presence of skilled professors. Yet, there was also a small side to Devina that was still, partially, worried.

The air was cool, and would probably get cooler as night approached. Devina took note of this beforehand while choosing an outfit to wear. A simple, comfy outfit would do for tonight. An olive green sweater, blue jeans, and brown, ankle high boots. Nothing fancy, which Devina would have preferred. But she was okay with dressing down for the night.

The leaves crunched under her feet as she walked over to the bonfire and took a seat. She held out her hands to warm them up, occasionally rubbing them and blowing into them. She watched as the bonfire's flames danced around, imagining they were having a party of their own. "How pretty," Devina thought. Amid her thoughts, the professor who had led the event, told them they could practice using the spell Accio on marshmallows. A change to use a spell! Awesome! Looking at the table with ingredients for S'mores, Devina took out her wand from its holster and pointed it one marshmallow. "Accio, Marshmallow!" The marshmallow zipped through the air are pelted Devina in the cheek, and landed in her lap.

Shocked, she looked down at the marshmallow while rubbing her cheek, an annoyed look on her face. "Well, at least it came to me on the first try." She tried to float the marshmallow over the flame as the professor had done, but she failed. Instead, she found a long enough stick on the floor, peeled off its bark, burn the tip slightly, and put the marshmallow on it. She wasn't always fancy. The marshmallow roasted until it was burnt and crispy, dripping everywhere. Devina added it between two graham crackers, along with chocolate, and bit down into it. The sweet taste filled her mouth.

The time for storytelling had come and Devina volunteered to go first.
"This is the story of the man known as...The Headless Horseman!" she threw her hands up and made an embarrassing grimace, but it made her giggle. "In America lies a small town of the name, Sleepy Hollow. The Headless Horseman is said to roam the cemetery there, along with other ghosts and goblins. He's the ghost of a Hessian trooper who lost his head in battle. To...a cannonball! He comes from his grave by the church and rides hither and yon whenever her feels like it. Searching, searching." She paused and looked at her audience. "What is he searching for? His missing head of course!" Slowly she sang:
Galloping, galloping over the land
Might soldier, sword in hand
Demon spirit from the dead.
Searching, searching for his head!

Galloping, galloping through the dell!
Those who speak won't live to tell!
Chop, chop their heads will roll, the Headless horseman takes his toll!"
She continued the story in a faster pace, on the edge of her seat. An old man nade Farmer Brouwer met the Headless Horseman one night and had to get up behind him. And the galloped, galloped, galloped over hill and swamp. Until, they reached a covered bridge, where the Horseman suddenly turned into a... SKELETON! And her threw Farmer Brouwer into the brook and sprang away over the treetops with a clap of thunder! Simultaneously, she clapped her hands and stomped her feet with each 'boom'. BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!...BOOM!

She ended her tale, bursting out in laughter. It was one of her favorite spooky stories, and she was glad to have been able to share it. Now all that there was left to do was, enjoy the night, and, of course, find a group to share a tent with. That shouldn't be too hard.

Elena had at first been wary of the sleepover, but eventually had warmed to the idea, so she had signed up and was now being led to the site of the sleepover, "I thought we weren't meant to go here she muttered to nobody in particular."

She had dressed in warm clothes and was whistling as she walked along.

When the time came to tell horror stories Elena tried to think of a good one. She remembered an interesting one she heard once, it wasn't quite horror but she had always thought it was scary.

"Everybody sitting comfortably? Good, here we go.

Once upon a time there were two children who had a monster in their closet. I can see you snickering in the back there, I promise this is better than you think.

So one night, the children snuck out of the house and into the forest, where they found a series of notes left for them. A guide to finding the “Broken Doors” where the monster lived. I seem to remember one of them:

Certain lines can’t be uncrossed,
Certain maps will get you lost,
Once you’ve passed the border then you’ll have to play the game.
Roll the dice but count the cards.
Break the glass but keep the shards,
The world is out of order, It’s been broken since you came,

The broken doors are hidden in the blood and in the bone,
My darling child, be careful now, and don’t go out alone.

When the children eventually found the Broken Doors they read the last note:

Break the mirror, it tells lies,
Learn to live in your disguise,
Everything is changing now, it’s too late to go back,
Caterpillar child of mine,
This was always life’s design,
Here at last you’ll find the things you can’t afford to lack,
The broken doors are ready, you are very nearly home,
My darling child, be careful now, and don’t go out alone.

As the children stepped through the broken doors they realized why there was always a warning at the end. As they turned into monsters themselves.

Well? Did you like the story?"

I'm weak my love.

Hjørdis instantly knew she was going to sign up as a chaperone when she heard the words 'Forbidden Forest Sleepover'. There honestly was not a single word in that title that made her feel comfortable. Each and every single thing was a matter of worry when it came to these children. Not all children were troublemakers, oh no. But there were a few and that was enough. She had not even been here for a whole month and she was already hearing various incidents that made her facepalm. Children at Uagadou suddenly seemed to well behaved in comparison.

Children in Hogwarts seemed to have an aptitude for setting fires, especially near wood and flammable materials. There would be none of that nonsense today, she would make sure of it. Hjørdis still could not believe how foolish children could be. But alas, it was something that would only be learnt through experience it seemed.

The Slytherin gave a single nod in the form of a greeting towards the Professor of Ancient Runes, who had insisted she referred to her on a first name basis and to any other colleagues present. Following the group, Hjørdis silently walked into the forest. She was dressed for the occasion, wrapping up a little warmer than she usually did in a thick black coat. It would get cold later. Her scarf, which bore some skulls for the Halloween occasion, would also come in handy. She had a pair of gloves in her pocket along with her wand but prevented putting them on right now.

Hjørdis cast a glance at the refreshments but decided to leave them for now. For now, she stood near a tree, listening to the children that told stories. She stayed silent, opting not to tell them a story at this time. The truth was, she did not know any horror stories that were appropriate for such young children. She could tell them about things that she had experienced in her former line of work. There were real-life stories that were truly terrifying. However, she did not want to scare them and her former line of work had a sworn secrecy that prevented her from talking about it. When real life experiences were more horrific than horror movies, you started to get immune to fear.

She did note that it was two Slytherins who jumped in and piped up first with their stories. She could not help but smirk a little, approving of their behaviour. There was definitely a sense of favouritism when it came to her own house, she would not deny that and it always made her proud when they stuck into events or put themselves out there. Slytherins were, after all, destined to be great. Despite that, Hjørdis knew that today was a good opportunity to talk to some students from other houses - find out what their strengths truly are.

[font=bodoni monotype] Aurelia had signed up for the sleepover just because she had nothing much to do. Aurelia had two options, stay in The old Scottish castle of Hogwarts where she had explored almost every corner already or venture into the cold forbidden forest where she had never been too. Of course, now that she was following the group down the grounds, she had picked the latter.

Aurelia was quite upset when heard that her parents and even other family members were enjoying themselves in the real Oktoberfest in Germany without her just because she still had school. Aurelia threw a fit through the owls, with all her words written in capital letter and even went out of her way to get a tub of red ink. She could ‘hear’ her Mother sternly telling her to calm down once she had enough. Aurelia reluctantly obliged to their request to stay in school. She couldn’t do anything about it either, because wherelse would she go? Not that she hadn’t a small bag of floo powder to travel to Germany by herself, she just didn’t want to disappoint her parents by getting in trouble.

Aurelia had worn a thick knitted cardigan as usual and a white sweatshirt under, she also paired them with a warm comfortable pair of pants. It was comafortable and warm enough to sleep through a cold night as after all, this was a sleepover. There was also no harm being a tad bit stylish for a walk in the forbidden forest. It was one of the warmest ( and more fashionable ) peices for clothing she could find. She just hoped they wouldn’t get too dirty being around too much nature, mud, dirt, twigs, leaves.

The girl sat a distance away from the fire where it was still fairly warm. After the experience in the Lock-In event during her first year where she unfortunately had gotten hurt, the brunette became more cautious with anything to do with fire. Not to even mention Incendio spells. She just watched other students’s Marshmallows float above the flickering orange flames. She didn’t bother getting one herself as she wasn’t much of a sweet tooth.

Aurelia wasn’t interested with the stories they shared around, it didn’t spook her the slightest. She had been reading works of the Grimm Brothers since she was as a young child in the original German version of course. Instead, she titled her head up to the sky to the perfectly round illuminating moon. It was beautiful. Her friends should be there soon, if they even bothered to step out of the castle.

Emma loved being outdoors. The scenery, the animals, even the earthy smell you smelled when you took the first step outside. She relished it all. For the fun of it, and mostly because she had never camped with anyone besides her family, she signed up. Dismissing the whole 'Forbidden Forest' part, though interested, she sat near the fire.

She didn't prefer to use magic for the simplest things. She was pretty old-fashioned when it came to using her wand, so she was sure to pick up a few marshmallows before she sat down to watch the storytellers began their attempt to frighten other students. With a stick in her right hand and a marshmallow already latched in her other, she punctured the marshmallow with a stick like her mother taught her. It wasn't exactly hard unless you miscalculated and ended up poking your hand with the stick. Hovering the marshmallow over the fire, she spun the stick inside of her hands, looking at the marshmallows that magically flew above the hearth of the fire.

Clicking the leather boots gave her something to do while the fire engulfed the marshmallow in its flames. Wearing a dark green jacket and a brown-ish scarf around her neck, it was needless to say she wasn't aware of the weather outside of Hogwarts. Still, the heat of the fire made the chilliness go away completely.

It was fun being outside, after curfew, with all the other students. Usually, after supper she went to her dormitory and waited until the weight of her eyes began unbearable to keep open, there was nothing else to look at besides the ceiling.

As the storytellers told their stories, she stared into the walls of Hogwarts. She felt bad for the people missing out on the chance to practice and learn a new spell, plus the marshmallows. That was always a positive to coming. Alas, some people just weren't the same person as they were the moment they stepped foot into Hogwarts. Some had been too late to join, and then some just didn't want to at all. She didn't know, but she couldn't possibly think of a reason no one would want to come and 'explore' the dark shadows that lurked inside of the Forbidden Forest.

Finally, withdrawing her toasted marshmallow out of the burning flame, she began to put her flames out using the strength of her breath. Her eyes wandering to the people she knew sitting around the fire; there was the Professor of Ancient Runes, the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, and... the Gryffindor herself, Aurelia. How fortunate of her. She walked over while she caught Aurelia star-gazing at the starless sky. After all, the sun was still beginning to set. What on earth was she looking at? That Gryffindor was strange...

[font=bodoni monotype] It’s was uncommon that could be vaguely seen even though the sun was still setting, sometimes, the sky was just odd. Aurelia sighed, it had been minutes looking at the sky and the bonfire and her friends still hadn’t arrived yet. They were probably lazy or didn’t like the cold too.

Another girl had finished her, most likely, made up ghost story and asked everyone for their opinion. If Aurelia didn’t have so much manners, she would have walked straight up told the girl it was ridiculous for children to be turned into monsters. Aurelia didn’t fancy the use of poetry or riddles either. She felt as if they always messed with her head. Of course, she didn’t, she kept the thoughts to herself and just watched. Her parents told her not to risk getting one someone’s bad side before knowing who the person, more specifically, the person’s parents were. You’d never know who’s parents might be business people, from the ministry of magic or rich purebloods.

The twelve year old looked around again hoping for a chance to catch a familiar face of a friend some where around. However, the only familiar face was Emma, the sight of the Ravenclaw made the both corner of her lips downturn very slightly. The girl had a marshmallow skewered on a stick in a hand. She seemed that she was in the middle of approaching her. What did Emma want now?

Company. Perhaps, there was a very slim chance that Emma just wanted some company for her friends weren’t around as well. There was nothing too bad Emma could do as the professors were all around to jump in if they saw fit. The girl sighed, she needed someone to talk to too, her friends obviously weren’t present. Maybe, just this once, she and Emma could be on good terms, then continue their rivalry as if nothing had happen somewhere later on. Aurelia would at least try, if Emma showed no intention of being neutral, Aurelia would do the same.

The stories these first years are telling are a bit ridiculous, don’t you think? They aren’t even scary to be honest.” She said, gesturing for Emma to sit down. She really wished her attempts wouldn’t be in vain else she’d regret later on.

Pfft... these stories aren’t scary at all. Poetry is the least thrilling thing in the world. Amanda sat near the edge of the fire, listening to the ridiculous stories that people were telling. She snickered to herself. Now it’s time to give these people a real scare.

Amanda stood up and dramatically stepped closer to the others. “Good evening, everybody. While I must commend you two first years on your storytelling skills, the stories themselves honestly weren’t very frightening. It’s time to give you people some real entertainment.” Amanda grinned wickedly as her eyes glinted in the firelight. “Alright guys, listen up. My story may be short, but it’s definitely a good one.”

“A man is staying in a hotel for the weekend. On his way to his room, he notices a closed door with no number on it. When he asks about it, he is told that no one is allowed in that room. Curious, he stops to peer in the keyhole on the next night, and sees a normal hotel room, with a very pale woman lying on the bed. He goes on his way. But the next night, he’s just too curious and looks through the keyhole again: this time, all he can see is red. Just red. He goes to ask the woman at the front desk about the room again, and she finally tells him the truth: a woman was murdered in that room years ago. An albino woman, with white skin... and red eyes.”

Amanda paused for effect and looked around, smirking. “Well, I hope you enjoyed. If you want any more stories, feel free to just ask. I’ll be here.” As she went to go sit down, she spotted her friend, Emma Hill, sitting with a Gryffindor girl. Amanda waved and joined them. “Hey there. Did you like my story?” She turned to the other girl. “Hello, I’m Amanda. Who are you?”

“Oh, I may be on the side of the angels, but don't think for one second that I am one of them.”

Tonight was the night: the sleepover. While staying at Hogwarts is almost like a year-long sleepover, this one was going to be filled with fright. Bloom was both excited and scared as to what might be in store for this sleepover. She packed a bag that had her wand, pajamas, sweater, toothbrush and paste, brush, blanket, sleeping bag and pillow. She was wearing her uniform and slippers to the grounds of Hogwarts. Where is it going to be? she asked herself, wondering if it was going to be in the courtyard or near the lake.

When she found out it was going to be in the Forbidden Forest Bloom's heart jumped. If she knew that it was going to be in the forest she would have probably declined the sign up. Her name was on a list though and she did not want to see like a baby for skipping out because of where the event was located. I'm twelve years old now! I can do this... she thought, trying to cheer herself up.

Bloom followed Professor Adelaide as well as other students into the forest. Stepping on the crunchy leaves as they take their short walk into the never-ending scenery. The further they walked into the forest, the thicker the trees had become. Bloom loved adventures, but when it came to the forest, she was not a fan. There was just something about it that never made her feel comfortable. Perhaps with the amount of professors that were around, she would feel a little safer.

She entered what seemed to be the campgrounds where there was a fire in the middle. Bloom dropped her bag in an open area and went straight for the light-- anything but being in the dark. Bloom sat down on the ground and grabbed a marshmallow and stuffed it into her mouth. She was still working on her spells and she wasn't the best at them. Then again, she never really practiced. Maybe now is the time..., she thought and she grabbed her wand and pointed it towards the marshmallow. Bloom chewed and swallowed the marshmallow in her mouth and cleared her throat: "Accio marshmallow," she said, but nothing happened. Shrugging, she grabbed another one nearby and stuffed it into her mouth.

Bloom felt comfortable until two Slytherins decided to start with scary stories and were they scary! Bloom found herself grabbing a couple more marshmallows than she wanted. It was as though the fluffiness of the marshmallow brought her comfort with every slimy bite. The minute one the second Slytherin was finished, a Gryffindor blurted out how terrible the stories were.

Although Bloom didn't tell the stories, she was a bit offended. She was definitely scared of the stories, but even so, it was rude. "Looks like you've lost your manners. It's probably back at the castle," she said, her eyebrows raised to the girl. She couldn't stand overly ambitious people who put others down.

[font=bodoni monotype] Aurelia had to admit, the next story, told by a Ravenclaw who she had meet briefly during the start of the year, was sure to make some students terrified. Murder. The Ravenclaw then started in their direction, she seemed to recognise Emma. It was probably due to them being in the same house. The girl’s accent was different, it was American, to Aurelia, it was odd how they pronounced some words and their spelling.

Aurelia, it definitely was thrilling. How did you even come up with such a story?” Aurelia asked with a genuine smile on her face.

A corner of Aurelia’s upper lip lifted almost unnoticeably in disgust as she noticed a far to familiar girl approaching them. The ex-Girlfriend to the dangerous Ben Eckenrode. Now Aurelia was a Gryffindor among three Ravenclaws. Just her bad luck. Where were all the Huffles and Gryffs?

A raised an eyebrow at Bloom as she rudely asked where her manners was. Who did the girl think she was? The girl must as well be talking about herself since she was approaching someone she barely knew without any pleasantries. Perhaps she was simply feeling moody from her period or something, Aurelia could understand that as she had a few experiences. Even then, it still bothered the brunette how the girl appeared to be wanting a challenge.

Apologies, I think you might have confused me with someone else.” She replied her voice cold, signaling for Bloom not to persevere further. She would do well with throwing a stinging rebut but she hoped to have at least a good time tonight and the last thing she wanted now was to stir up conflict. Hence, She would give this Bloom a chance to back off.

If things got worse and Bloom decided to stir up trouble, Aurelia prayed that at least one of the other two Ravenclaws would back her up. She really hoped not to have a good night ruined. In the worse case scenario, the Ravenclaws would all defend Bloom, as she was from her house, Aurelia would then be dead meat.
