"I’d love for you to join me!" The child replied earnestly. In all honesty, there was something oddly endearing about their new housemates' shyness, and Qrow was now rather hellbent on having the other Slytherin open up to them a bit more. It was a challenge, if anything, and they weren’t the type to back down from one of those. The opportunity for another interaction with the girl had the redhead becoming rather excited too.
"I hope so," Mahlioz agreed at Qrow's mention of more free time, her face morphing into a half smile.
The metamorphmagus found themselves wondering what other classes the other student would like to take when the time came to select their O.W.L. subjects. She seemed like the type to take ancient runes, or maybe divination?
At the mention of archery, Mahlioz grinned, and Qrow couldn’t help but allow themselves a small internal victorious "woop". "Wow, that's a lot!" she ended up saying, though it was a pretty obvious statement, and Qrow was well aware of it. They had grown up as an only child in rural England, and so they often found themselves trying a plethora of different and somewhat random hobbies. "I can't say I agree with all of them, but I definitely love music, art, and archery." Qrow had barely expected anyone else to enjoy archery; however, the fact that they had found someone else who enjoyed the sport so soon almost made the child jump in their seat. "I only started learning that last one recently, though, so I'm not great at it. Do you know if... is there somewhere we can practise on the grounds?"
The child was uncertain about that, but they would certainly have to ask; not as if they had actually brought their equipment with them, but still... They had started the activity a few years ago while on holiday somewhere; their dad, Hephaestus, found a poster about it and signed the family up for a few lessons. Qrow had fallen in love with the sport almost instantly and carried it on upon their return to England.
"I’m not sure," They replied, eyes narrowing in thought. "but I’ll certainly have to ask around. Hogwarts grounds are huge, so I can imagine that there would be…"
Dessert cleared away in mere seconds, and soon, while other students seemed to be barely awake, Qrow felt completely wired. Even as the prefects led the way out of the hall, the redhead was somewhat giddy with the lingering feelings from the day. They had made a friend!

Her thoughts were all over the place once again, but this time it was no longer spiralling about what a terrible person she might be, or why she wasn't in Ravenclaw. No, this time, it was just pure joy. She had almost never been able to call someone a friend - okay, yes, there was her sibling, and her cousins, and a few muggles from her old school, but it wasn't like this. This was different. She felt it - friend, all through her mind and her heart. Qrow was her friend. Maybe she wasn't theirs, but that didn't matter. They were hers. They were her friend. And they wanted her to come with them to the library the next day. Her heart soared.
When the girl mentioned she also did archery, Qrow almost jumped out of their seat. It seemed they were as enthusiastic about the sport as her. She had started learning during the summer holidays - it had been the first time. But it would definitely not be the last; that, she would make sure of. Though it seemed her new... friend (she felt like she would never get used to the word, be able to think it without grinning her head off) didn't know whether there was a place she could practice at on the grounds.
"Yeah, they are really big, aren't they?" she would have to explore them at some point. Exploring wasn't exactly her favorite thing to do, so she would probably put it off for a... very long while, but she was too curious not to do so. "I'll have to find somewhere at some point."
It wasn't long before the feast was over. Dessert was cleared off (Mahlioz had had enough for the next week, or maybe even two), and everyone started following the prefects off to the dormitories. Mahlioz still had not stopped smiling. Okay, maybe it was a small smile, but it was definitely a big feat, considering how depressed she had been an hour ago. Getting up and starting out of the Great Hall, she turned to Qrow. "So... I'll see you tomorrow?" she said, before realizing she had no idea how it would work. "Where - and when - works best for you?" she asked, though it probably wouldn't help much. She still didn't know the castle well at all. But they'd figure something out.
In the meantime, she had to get to sleep. She was exhausted from all the emotions of the day.

As everyone started following the prefects off to the dormitories, Qrow couldn’t help but notice how Mahlioz had not stopped smiling. It wasn’t a big smile, just something small and shy, but it was definitely a big feat, considering how sad she had seemed an hour ago. Getting up and starting out of the Great Hall, she turned to Qrow. "So... I'll see you tomorrow?" she said, pausing briefly in thought before adding, "Where and when work best for you?"
Honestly, Qrow had no idea how to get around the castle; hopefully they’d be given a map or something, but then again, directions had never been their strong suit, and they had yet to attempt any spells they had read about for wayfinding. They also doubted they could rely on any of their cousins that had been sorted into Slytherin house; the triplets were especially susceptible to providing any first-year with the wrong directions, simply so they could laugh when the poor kids got lost. Qrow highly doubted that simply because they were related would ease that; in fact, they were probably more likely to be a target for them because of it.
"Common room. 10.30am." The redhead finally settled on.
Yes, that felt like a good idea. That way, if they were to get lost, at least they would be lost together; not only that, but they wouldn’t have to ask their cousins for directions if they just wandered and hoped for the best. Surely two heads are better than one?
