Akina kept a bright smile on her face. "Hello. How are you?" Mahlioz asked Akina kindly. "I'm good, thanks," Akina responded as she took another book from the shelves. Mahlioz seemed to be thinking about something, and she didn't want to interrupt her thoughts. Akina had many moments of her own, collective silence.

"So...what class do you have first today?" Mahlioz asked Akina. Akina was grateful that Mahlioz was making an attempt at conversation. "I have Potions first. It's not bad, to be honest, but I would prefer a different class to start my day." Mahlioz started asking a whole bunch of questions, so Akina took her time to listen and think about each one. The first question was what her favorite class was. Akina bit her lip and thought. It would be either Charms or Defense Against the Dark Arts. After all, it was fun to do some wandwork after having a wand for the first time. She reluctantly decided on Charms. "Charms is my favorite. It's fun." Akina answered the next question, so things wouldn't be awkward, which was who her favorite teacher was. "Hmm...I think Professor Blumenthal. She has a super cool sense of style!"

Akina found her memories flying back to yesterday, where there was a boy with glasses reading in the library when Mahlioz and Akina were talking. She thought he probably was having trouble adjusting, just like the way she did when she first came to Hogwarts. He could use a friend, Akina thought. Hmm...he looks like a bookwormish type. Maybe he'll be back soon.

Mahlioz adjusted herself in her armchair to look at Akina as they spoke. The girl had Potions first, which she apparently didn't like too much, unlike the Slytherin, who loved the class. Sure, sometimes it was hard to understand, and sometimes it was easy to mess up, but it was really interesting nonetheless. "That's understandable. I like Potions, but first thing in the day? No thanks." She grinned, and then listened as the Gryffindor answered her questions.

"Oh yeah, Charms is definitely fun. So many cool spells to learn," she agreed brightly. "And so many random ones too! Charms you would have never expected existed." Despite having grown up around her mom, a witch, and her spells, it still surprised Mahlioz how diverse the wizarding world was, and all the different uses magic could be used for. At the mention of Professor Blumenthal, Mahlioz smiled. "She is pretty awesome - but I'd have to say the librarian. Professor Sáez? I know he doesn't teach anything, but he's really nice and, well, he's a librarian." That was reason enough to Mahlioz. The thought of the library, and books, gave her inspiration for her next question. "I'm guessing you're like me and you love reading too, if you spend so much time reading here. What do you like to read?"

The other first year seemed lost in her thoughts. Mahlioz wondered what she was thinking of. Usually, she wouldn't ask what someone was thinking, but today... "Penny for your thoughts?" She hoped she wasn't bombarding poor Akina with all these questions. She was just feeling especially curious today. It probably explained why she was talking so much. Honestly, it was probably a miracle.

Akina also settled herself comfortably in the chair, putting her book on her lap politely. "That's understandable. I like potions, but first thing in the morning? No thanks!" Mahlioz said. Akina nodded. "Same, too much to do, and so many ingredients to keep track of! And plus, I would prefer a simple class to calm myself down a bit, like History maybe."

"Oh yeah, Charms is definitely fun. So many cool spells to learn. And so many random ones too! Charms you would have never expected existed." Mahlioz responded. Akina smiled and one spell, the simple "Wingardium LeviOoSA" flew through her mind, and Akina laughed a bit. She regained control of herself and stared up at Mahlioz.

As for the favorite teacher, Mahlioz voiced that she had taken a liking to the librarin. "The librarian?" Akina echoed, and twisted around in her seat to look at the focused librarian. "Oh, about the librarian. I haven't actually spoken to him at all, despite my many time of being here." She hoped Mahlioz wouldn't seem herself as weird for not speaking to most of the teachers yet.

Akina listened again as Mahlioz asked another question. "Uhhh," Akina stammered. She pondered this for a while. Questions were hard when it came to books and reading. Favorite author? Can't decide. Favorite series? Can't decide either. So she went with her heart's answer. "I like all books," she said. "But except for romance novels. It's kind of popular here in Hogwarts but, no." Akina shook her head quickly.

"I'm fine. I'm just thinking. You know? Just thoughts- I mean- thinking," Akina rambled, and forced her mouth to close. "Did you get enough sleep last night?" Akina joked, hoping to change the subject. She had noticed that Mahlioz had had a definite increase of words since the last time they talked.

Akina seemed to dislike potions heavily (especially the ingredients part, and that Mahlioz could definitely understand. How in the world had someone decided they'd put crushed bones or snake venom into a potion they would end up drinking? Early wizards were weird - well, and modern ones too), although she pointed out that she would have liked History first period. That surprised the Slytherin. "History? Really?" she paused. "I feel like I would just end up falling asleep again. Like, it's an interesting class, but... when I've just woken up?" She knew she'd be snoring in two minutes.
At the mention of unexpeced charms, the young Gryffindor sitting in front of Mahlioz smiled to herself before laughing lightly. The Scottish-French girl didn't know what she was laughing at, but she couldn't help smiling back. It was rare to meet someone who so openly didn't care about what people thought of her, laughing to herself. Mahlioz wondered what was going through her mind. It had to be interesting.

Having gathered herself, Akina then stated that she had not spoken to the Librarian since she'd gotten here. That took Mahlioz by surprise (goodness, this girl just kept surprising her at every turn). "I thought you would have, because you like the library so much. But I guess it makes sense - we're here for the books, not the people. I do recommend talking to him, though. He's very nice." Of course, it wasn't an obligation. Mahlioz, too, tried staying away from people most of the time. Books were, after all, a lot better than humans.

At Mahlioz's next question, her new acquaintance seemed bewildered. The young Slytherin could practically see the gears grinding in the other's head as she tried to decide on what to say. She ended up choosing all books - a decision Mahlioz could definitely agree with - apart from romance. Mahlioz's eyebrows shot up. "Wait, really? You don't like romance either?" She was probably the first person the young girl had ever met that agreed with her on that point. It wasn't that Mahlioz hated all romance - it was just that she found it boring, and that the books could definitely do without it.
Some of her favorite books (quite unfortunately) had romance in them. In fact, it was the best-selling genre in the world. Mahlioz couldn't understand why. Maybe it was because she'd never fallen in love, but she thought that idea was overrated. Some people never fell in love, and they did just fine, whatever society said. "I'm so glad you agree. The genre is so overrated - I much prefer fantasy, or historical fiction, or anything else, really. There are so many books that would have been better without the romance." She grinned, glad the two were on the same page.

Mahlioz laughed when Akina stumbled over her words, rambling a little about thoughts and thinking. Trying to change the subject, she asked the Slytherin whether she'd gotten enough sleep last night. "Er... I guess so? I don't know. I think so. I read for a while, but I feel fine this morning. Why?" It was quite a random question, but Mahlioz loved random questions. She grinned.

"Yes, history. I don't know, it's just simple. Though I kind of admit it is kind of boring. Just a bit," Akina answered. "I haven't actually fallen asleep once in a class yet. Have you?" She thought for a little. A lot that she learned in History of Magic she had already read in books, but it still was fun to just learn some more.

When Akina mentioned that she had never spoken to the librarian before, she noticed that Mahlioz's eyes widened for a second. She sighed. "Yeah, I just can't feel the courage to just walk up to him and say, 'Hey, how are you?' That's just weird. You know what I mean?" Akina shuffled her feet, hoping that Mahlioz didn't find her as boring or unconfident. She was, it was just that she didn't feel like talking to people or meeting them. She'd rather just sit down and read a book.

Akina listened attentively as Mahlioz spoke. "Oh, yes romance! Ugh, it's so boring, right? Any book. Just give me any book! NOT ROMANCE," Akina said, then realized that she had raised her voice. "I'm so glad you agree. The genre is so overrated - I much prefer fantasy, or historical fiction, or anything else, really. There are so many books that would have been better without the romance," Mahlioz agreed.

"I don't know, you just seem to be quite talkative today," Akina said, then winced. It must have sounded like a mean comment.

Mahlioz laughed as Akina ended up admitting that yes, History was just a bit boring sometimes. "Oh god no, I could never," she answered to the question about falling asleep in class. "It would be so disrespectful, the teacher has probably spent a long time preparing the class and falling asleep basically tells them that you don't care about that." Sure, sometimes they didn't do a great job at it - especially one teacher at her old muggle school - but most of the time, they were trying.

"Yes, I definitely get what you mean," she responded when they spoke about the librarian. "Especially at the beginning of the year, I was exactly like you. I don't usually like people." She hoped that didn't come off as mean. But it seemed Akina was the same way. Well, at least they could bond over introvertedness.
The way the other first year got so annoyed when talking about romance books made Mahlioz grin. She even raised her voice - which got some heads turning, because they were in a library - but that was fine. She was passionnate about this, apparently. And Mahlioz could understand perfectly well. "My favorite book series, Aru Shah by Roshani Chokshi... it has romance in it too. And it really made me sad because it ruined everyone's relationship with the main character, just because she had a crush on her friend. It is such a stupid genre."

Mahlioz couldn't help but burst out laughing when Akina told her she was talkative. She wasn't wrong. "Well, it's not often I meet someone who seems to be exactly like me - the books, the introvertedness, the hating romance... I can't help but like talking to you." She grinned. "Besides, you're talking a lot too, compared to yesterday." That brought her mind back to the book she'd borrowed. "By the way, Jinxes for the Jinxed is turning out to be very good. I don't usually read non-fiction, but this one was interesting."

Akina laughed at the thought of being caught sleeping in class. Of course, if she had fallen asleep, her parents would be jumping down her throat if they found out. But, Akina always took the boring time in class to take notes. It wouldn't hurt to take some, right? "It would be so disrespectful, the teacher has probably spent a long time preparing the class and falling asleep basically tells them that you don't care about that," Mahlioz said. "True," Akina agreed, nodding.

Akina shuffled her feet, thinking about the librarian. "Should I go talk to him now?" Akina asked Mahlioz, glancing at the librarian's desk. "Hey, wait. It says unavailable! Isn't that weird?" Akina sighed in relief under her breath. One less person to talk to, one less thing to worry about.

Luckily, Mahlioz didn't seem to notice, because she said "My favorite book series, Aru Shah by Roshani Chokshi... it has romance in it too. And it really made me sad because it ruined everyone's relationship with the main character, just because she had a crush on her friend. It is such a stupid genre." Akina nodded yet again. It felt nice to talk to someone who had the same personality and hobbies as her.

Mahlioz talked more for a bit until she said "By the way, Jinxes for the Jinxed is turning out to be very good. I don't usually read non-fiction, but this one was interesting." Akina nodded for what seemed like the hundredth time. "I tend to avoid non-fiction, but I read them every so often. I usually fly to the fantasy section when I come here."

Akina seemed to be hesitant at the idea of going to talk to the librarian, shuffling her feet and seeming relieved when she realized he was unavailable. "Hey, don't feel pressured to. It's just an idea - there are many times where I don't feel like talking to people either. Only go if you want to." She glanced at the "unavailable" sign at the librarian's desk. "And if he's available, obviously." She smiled. But honestly, she understood. People were hard to talk to, and one less human interaction was one more smile in her book.

The Gryffindor really seemed to have the same interests as Mahlioz. She stated that she tended to avoid non-fiction, but loved fantasy, which somehow made Mahlioz's smile even wider. "How is it possible that we agree on so many things?! Fantasy is by far my favorite genre. Dragons, fairies, magic... you name it, it's awesome." Although she wasn't sure what was considered fantasy to most wizards. Dragons, fairies and magic were all real things. Maybe fantasy was more like realistic fiction in Hogwarts. The thought made her laugh.
"I also sometimes like a sci-fi book from time to time. They're less good, but sometimes you come across a really good one. Have you read Divergent? Or The Hunger Games?" Okay, so it was true that she had read neither of those series. But they were on her list. She'd get to them soon... once she finished the two thousand other books she wanted to read first.

Glancing at her watch, Mahlioz realized that classes would be starting soon. She stood up with yet another smile. It was peculiar, but this conversation had made a great start to her day. Yes, she was still an introvert, so the talking and interacting with people part had drained her, but... she was happy. Really happy to have met someone that was so like her. "I should get going, Herbology isn't nearby. But thanks for meeting up with me! This was great." She grinned, gathering her things and getting ready to leave.

Akina smiled appreciatively as Mahlioz reassured her that she shouldn't feel forced to talk to people. Mahlioz was really, really sweet and friendly. Not to mention she was also kind of outgoing. Akina glanced at the sign on the desk that read "unavailable." Well, that made things easier, of course. But Akina knew that eventually she would have to talk to him in order to check out books and stuff like that.

Mahlioz voiced how Akina and her had so much in common. Akina agreed with this (again), and it was awesome to have a lot in common with someone. "I know, right?" she said. "I've read the Hunger Games, but I'll keep an eye out for Divergent. Akina thought for a bit and took a deep breath. She was about to ask a question that she had really wanted to ask since yesterday. Akina bit her lip, about to regret her decision.

She opened her mouth and asked, "Were you...okay with being sorted into your house?" Akina was trying to see if this was something else they had in common. Akina had really wanted to be in Ravenclaw, but ended up in Gryffindor. How was she even a Gryffindor? She wasn't even close to brave or bold or daring or cool or outgoing and stuff.

Akina noticed Mahlioz glanced at her watch. Akina glanced at her own, and her eyebrows raised in shock. Class was about to start, and Defense Against the Dark Arts was quite a walk from the library. "I should get going, Herbology isn't nearby. But thanks for meeting up with me! This was great," Mahlioz said, a bright grin on her face. Akina smiled back. "Okay, yeah! Defense Against the Dark Arts isn't that close either. Nice meeting you!"

The two girls kept talking casually as time ticked on. Mahlioz was honestly thankful to have met Akina. It was nice to know someone so similar to her. It seemed the Gryffindor was just as glad as Mahlioz, that is until it seemed something was bothering her. The girl paused, frowning slightly, took a deep breath, and then voiced what she'd been thinking. She asked if Mahlioz had been okay with being sorted into Slytherin.

At the question, Mahlioz's eyebrows skyrocketed. She wasn't sure what to say exactly... how had Akina known? Stumbling over her words, she struggled to get an answer out. "I- uh- th- I- jus- I mean- not- I-" She paused to take a breath herself. "Not really? It's not something I usually talk about, but... I never wanted to be in Slytherin, they say it's the house of the evil and I always thought I'd be in Ravenclaw because my whole wizarding family was. But..." She thought about everything that had happened over the past few months. "Now, I don't think that way anymore. It was really bad at the beginning, but now I've made really good friends and I feel better about who I am. I don't think I'm evil just because I'm in Slytherin. Your house doesn't define you, only you define you." She tilted her head slightly, curious. "Why do you ask?"

Mahlioz got up and gathered her things, walking slowly towards the doors of the library, just because she didn't want to leave too fast. Akina was interesting, and any more time she could spend talking to the fellow first year, she would take advantage of. "You too!" she said smilingly in response to the Gryffindor's statement that it was nice meeting her. And then they both left the library, ready to get to their classes.
