Mark speaking | Mark's thoughts

"Oh, cool." Mark says.

Honestly, Mark was surprised when Seven said that there mother was in Mark's house. He thought that it was a coincidence that his mother was in Seven's house and there mother was in his house.

"Oh cool. Aren't Ravenclaws also smart?" Mark asks

Mark than saw Seven looking at the bird. He to decided to also look at the bird. He noticed that it looked pretty normal, but noticed that Seven was looking at it.

"Wait, are they comparing themselves to a bird?" Mark thought.

He didnt want to ask Seven, since he thinks that it'll be weird to ask them if they are comparing themselves to a bird or not. But, he did want to tell them about what its like being in Hufflepuff.

"Since you told me what its like being in Ravenclaw, it'll only be fair if I tell you what its like in Hufflepuff. So, we are loyal, not all of us are extroverts. Some of us are both or introverts. Pretty much all that matters in Hufflepuff, is if your loyal, helpful, and I think nice. But I don't know. Anyways, everything is yellow in my common room. I don't like that part." Mark says

─────"Yeah, most Ravenclaws are smart. But that doesn't mean you have to be really intelligent to get sorted into Ravenclaw. Common misconception."

The bird Seven had been watching flew away off into the distance as Mark explained all about Hufflepuff. He ended with a comment regarding the house colors - specifically yellow. Seven didn't particularly care for that color either. It was often too bright. Orange was similar, but better. It could be bright, yes, but it could also be a soft, peach color. But, they weren't going to list the pros and cons of each color of the rainbow. That would take forever. Instead, they focused their attention back on Mark.

"If you could change the Hufflepuff house colors, what would you change them to?" Seven asked curiously.

They honestly thought the Ravenclaw colors were fairly good. There were so many shades of blue. Green, the Slytherin color, wasn't too bad either. Now, all this thought brought up a few questions for Seven. Why did Gryffindor get gold as a color, Slytherin with silver, Ravenclaw with bronze, and Hufflepuff with black? It was almost as if that was a ranking of sorts. Who, exactly, had ranked the houses, Seven had no idea. Probably some old witch or wizard.

Mark speaks | Mark's thoughts

"Oh cool. So I could've been sorted into Ravenclaw. But its OK I'm a Hufflepuff now and I can't change anything about it." Mark says.

Mark than noticed the bird that both he and Seven were looking at had flew away. Mark didnt really mind though. He than began thinking about why the Hufflepuff colors were yellow and black. He didnt mind the black. But he wanted the yellow to be a different color. He than heard Seven ask the question he was already thinking about the answer.

"I wonder they read my mind. I hope they didnt. But, I should definitely answer they question." Mark thought.

"I was already thinking of the answer to this question before you even asked it. Probably a nice gold or orange. I just don't like yellow and I don't know why its the color of Hufflepuff. Black is fine, but not yellow. Actually, maybe purple will be better for Hufflepuff." Mark says answering the question.

Now Mark began thinking about the house colors. He than realized that the houses were ranked from Gryffindor-Hufflepuff, like best-worst. But, Mark knew that every house was good in their own way and that no one should've ranked the houses.

─────Seven shrugged. "I think Hufflepuff seems like a good house. Most people there are supposedly kind and helpful. Being a first year, that seems great. Is it like that for you?"

As Mark continued to talk, they didn't do much but glance around the area. That bird was definitely gone, but Seven knew there were other creatures roaming around the Hogwarts grounds. But when Mark mentioned that purple would be a good choice for one of the Hufflepuff colors, well, that sparked Seven's interest. Purple was a great color, but somehow they couldn't see it mixed in with the black and the badger that represented Hufflepuff. Perhaps it was because for each house, there were two colors that contrasted quite a bit. Purple was very similar to black, though if it was a pale lavender, it would be more different.

"Yeah, if I could change the Hufflepuff house colors, I would choose orange. I'd keep the black, just change the yellow to an orange. Something darker." Seven hastily added, "Not that yellow isn't a good color. It looks great with black. I just think at least an orange-y tinge would be better."

They didn't want to complain too much about another house.

Mark speaks | Mark's thoughts

"It is sometimes. But sometimes we Hufflepuff's can get bullied by Slytherin's. I haven't though. But my brother almost did. But, it is nice, since we are helpful, like you said. But, now that I'm here, I don't think the bullying happened. I also think that my brother was lying. Also, I'm pretty sure it happened in Harry Potter's time, but now it doesn't happen." Mark says, not really knowing what he was saying.

Mark now wondered how Seven would respond to what he just said. He didn't want them to think that he was just saying nonsense, which he thought he was saying. But, he wanted them to think something else. When he heard them reply to what he had said about the Hufflepuff color's, Mark nodded his head. He definitely liked the black. But, he also liked the orange and black for the new colors of Hufflepuff, so he said,
"I agree. Orange and black would go great together. Now that I think about it, purple wouldn't really go, unless it's a light purple."

Mark than ran out of questions to ask Seven. He hoped that they might have a question to ask Mark until he thought of one, but if not, he'll just have to think of one to ask them, and hopefully, it'll be a good question.

─────"I wish everyone could just get along," Seven sighed. "I mean, I suppose most people would like that, but there are still rivalries and stuff. Not a lot of people are trying hard to make that a reality versus a small possiblity."

Oof. Why had they said such obvious and weird things? And they were only making it worse the more they talked.

"Orange and black look nice together and they contrast... Purple is a great color, but most things look better if they can sort of pop out. If that makes sense."

Seven willed themself to stop talking. By now, Mark was probably thinking about how obnoxious and annoying this new person he'd met was.

Attempting to ignore their negative thoughts and doubts, Seven asked him a question. "Did you grow up around magic or are you more used to the whole 'Muggle' thing?"

They had always thought it would be cool to live side by side with magic, but before Hogwarts, they had only really been associated with Muggles. They had gone to a Muggle school and had Muggle friends. They had Muggle teachers and the owners of shops they visited were Muggles. Pretty clear pattern, right? There had only been one witch / wizard in their early life...

Mark speaks | Mark's thoughts

"I agree. But, it's something that we couldn't stop, since it wasn't during our time here. But, hopefully, nothing bad will happen during our time here at Hogwarts." Mark says agreeing with Seven.

Mark liked what Seven had said. He wondered if they had thought that they had said something weird, but Mark didn't want to tell them that it wasn't weird, since he didn't want to make anything worse. So, he decided to think in his head, but nothing rude about Seven.

"Yep! That makes perfect sense! Also, I agree with you again. Apparently, I'm not good at making colors that could fit with another color. But, it's ok. That isn't really what matters, right?" Mark says agreeing again.

Mark really liked talking to Seven. He felt that he could learn a lot from them. And he knew that they weren't being annoying or obnoxious, but probably thought that he was thinking that they were. Mark still hasn't thought of a question to ask Seven yet. When he thought of one, he was going to ask, but apparently, Seven decided to ask it first. Mark than said,
"Woah, I was about to ask this question. I grew up in the wizarding world. I have never been to the muggle world at all. What about you?"

─────"Yeah. I think more and more schools are getting less and less tolerant of bullying, but it could still happen."

Mark told them he wasn't great at color schemes and stuff, but that didn't matter too much. Unless he wanted to be a fashion designer or something. Seven didn't bring this up because they felt it might be a strange thing to say.

They couldn't imagine not interacting with Muggles. "My life was confusing regarding magic and non-magical people. Nearly everyone I knew was a Muggle. But, I was aware of magic and Hogwarts and all that. My dad is a Muggle, but my mum is a witch. I had to grow up with Muggles because magic folk wouldn't accept my dad into the wizarding world." Who says 'magic folk'? "So I went to a Muggle school for the first ten or eleven years of my life."

Seven was glad to have met Mark. He seemed like a good friend - if they could call him that. The two had just met and they couldn't be sure. They did hope Mark thought Seven would be a good friend. After going to Hogwarts, they had pretty much lost all their friends. They were a bit lonely. Just a little.

"True. Mahoutokoro doesn't really have bullying anymore." Mark says agreeing with Seven

Mark decided to not tell Seven anymore about Mahoutokoro. He wasn't sure if he should tell Seven about him going to Mahoutokoro and that he was going to go there, but his parents decided that he'll go to Hogwarts with his older brother James. But, if Seven did ask, than he will tell them. But, only if they ask him.

When Seven shared their history with Mark, he than realized that Seven was mostly with muggles even though they are a half-blood. Mark felt bad for them, since the wizarding world didn't accept Seven's father, which Mark thought was wrong. But, he decided to not say anything about that. But, he said,
"Oh, I see. I bet magic can be confusing to you like how muggles are confusing to me. I guess it's about how we are raised. We view things differently from others, but we can also learn things from new people that we meet. Like we are today."

Mark than smiled at Seven. He knew he had probably said a pretty wise thing, but what he had said was definitely true. His parents told him that, so he decided to tell it to anyone else he feels like sharing it to. Mark now knows that he had met an amazing friend that he can tell a lot to. He was happy to meet Seven.

─────"Mahoutokoro? What's that?"

The name or word or whatever sounded familiar. Given the context, Seven guessed it was a school, but they didn't know much about it. Their mother had probably mentioned it before, though. Maybe it was a school for witches and wizards like Hogwarts was?

They nodded along with Mark's words. "I didn't know much about magic until I was eleven. That was when I got my letter from Hogwarts. Then I asked my mum a ton of questions about it. The houses, the spells, the potions. I was gathering information so I'd be prepared. That's probably why I'm in Ravenclaw."

Seven couldn't help but feel a slight sense of apprehension creeping in when it came to Mark's possible reaction to their intense fascination with the art of magic. Although Seven had thoroughly enjoyed their experience and found it to be nothing less than thrilling, Mark's deep-rooted ties to the magical realm might pose a challenge in terms of his being able to understand and appreciate the extent of Seven's passion for the topic.

They sighed. That thought alone had been proof that they were in Ravenclaw. Who else would think like that? Or maybe Seven was uniquely weird.
