2023, Stage 2 Ravenclaw vs Hufflepuff: Match 8

"Oh?" Dee gave her partner a slightly bemused look. Was that... teasing? Eun-ji had always seemed too... uptight for banter, but if that had changed, she certainly wasn't going to complain. She grinned. "I take it all back, please be my friend and cook for me."

The smile only widened as the next exchange of spells unfolded. Dee dodged the blindfold that came her way easily, and Eun-ji, admirably, even managed to evade two spells while still landing a hit of her own. The girl had certainly improved in the year since they'd last been partnered. Dealla had delayed her own attack for a moment as to take better aim, and got to watch twin bursts of lightning shoot down from the cloud above, hitting the Hufflepuffs. She smirked, feeling vindicated; clearly, her choice to get rid of the stormcloud as fast as possible after it had struck her earlier had been the right one. Dee could still taste copper in her mouth from her own bolt. She preferred being struck by inspiration to being struck by lightning.

After that assault, Lindsey already looked rather battered, and Dee took the opportunity to double down on their advantage by sending another burst of pressurised water at the Hufflepuff. This one, finally, found its mark. "Good," she muttered, talking half to her wand, half to herself. "Took us long enough, eh?"

The next few minutes were just terrible. One, Lindsey yet again missed Eun-ji. Two, both Ravenclaws’ took advantage and had their spells solidly landed on her. Three, the lightning struck right on her head. This was certainly the worst experience she had ever had in duels, and Lindsey groaned in distress. The pain, tickle and wetness combined together was a strange feeling, something she had never, never experienced before, and Lindsey tried to balance herself and stand still. She gripped her wand as hard as she could, trying to gain a little assurance and confidence from it - okay, okay, it wasn’t over yet - at least she was still standing, wasn’t it? And that meant a chance to take. Lindsey Springhall would never hesitate if there was only but one little opportunity.

Contrary to Eun-ji’s hidden worries, the match only seemed to be going better and better for her team. Once again, she quickly dodged the two spells thrown her way. She was definitely focused and quick on her feet today. Besides, her own wind jinx messed with Lindsey’s concentration so the Flipendo wasn’t too hard to avoid. Although to be fair, Lindsey has been struggling for some time now due to ongoing spell effects so it was only natural she struggled to hit her target. Eun-ji wasn’t about to complain though. She made it happen precisely because it would make her life so much easier.

Now if Dee succeeds this time…Oh. Her train of thought was swiftly interrupted by two loud crackling noises when both badgers got hit by a lightning. Ouch. She was really glad the clouds were no longer on their side. It looked painful. Eun-ji glanced at her teammate, who was currently casting her own spell. Thankfully, this time it hit. Nice! She smiled subtly. Eun-ji was by no means enjoying the mess that was Lindsey Springhall right now but it did signify the Ravenclaw was so much closer to the victory now. There was no way she wouldn’t be happy about that.

Well this wasn't... great. Dori had never been struck with the lightning that they oh so loved to use, and to say it wasn't great was a vast understatement. For it to strike them and their duelling partner was even worse. Not only that but their spells seemed to be missing their targets consistently. Ravenclaws were just- not people to mess with. Especially Dee.

It was in the fires of adversity that greatness is born. The heat of battle, the pressure of time ticking away slowly, the clash of wills between those who aspire to victory. The critical test: hold fast and push through, or give in. The test was too much Dorion. Perhaps it was the nerves, or the stress, or simply indecison; but once again Dorion took no action, leaving her partner to fend for herself.

Already, the eagles had smelled blood in the water, and closed in on their prey like sharks. Lindsey, in defiance, and perhaps sensing what was to come chose to do something a bit different, and cast a Animosus at her partner, trying to bolster Dorion's seeming faltering courage in the face of this adversity

Eun-ji started with a well-struck wind jinx at the weakened badger, even as Dealla came through with a hurried cast of Pressurised Water. It should not have worked -- the wand movement was slightly off, and the angle was all wrong for a clear shot at either of the badgers. And yet, somehow it had worked. Not only had Dealla managed to successfully cast the spell, but she had made it split precisely to be able to JUST catch both the badgers Dorion staggered out of the way by the skin of their teeth, but Lindsey was overwhelmed and collapsed.

Now it was just Dorion facing off against both the Eagles. Would the Badgers be blazing back to victory, or will the convocation of crafty Eagles claim their victory?

Spectator Thread, Day 1

Another attempt at splitting her spells - successful, of course - but once again, the fault seemed to lie with her aim. The water she'd conjured clipped Lindsey, yet shot past Dorion, probably dousing a few members of the audience rather than the Hufflepuff she'd aimed at.

Dee shook her head and rolled her wrist. At least the repeated hits had finally been enough to take Lindsey out of the duel, leaving Eun-ji and Dee to face only Dorion, and Dee relaxed a little. Even if everything seemed to be going wrong for her today, they were still winning; and at this point, what could go wrong?

Lindsey was already looking terrible during the previous round so it was not too surprising when she finally hit the ground. Eun-ji did her best not to wince. She was happy for her team success but knocking someone out was always a tad uncomfortable to watch. Despite her untimely end, the Hufflepuff did a good job and even managed to boost her teammate as she was going down so she should still be proud of herself. It was always hardest for the person that had a target on their back from the very beginning. Eun-ji would know.

Surprisingly, the opponent still standing seemed to be struggling much more than Lindsey. This was the second time they froze and did nothing. Was Dorion not feeling well today? Eun-ji wondered how they felt about Flash’s sudden disappearance. It should have affected them at least as much as it did her, right? Or perhaps she was just projecting. Even the most experienced got nervous sometimes. Either way, if the things remained the same, The Ravenclaw team probably wouldn’t have too much trouble winning this one. Still, Eun-ji was not someone to get too comfortable or underestimate her opponent. She was doing well thus far but things could still go wrong. Duelling was highly unpredictable sport so she made sure to stay focused.

it was something Dori never got used to, watching a teammate fall. It always felt like their fault, like they hadn’t done enough to keep them up and in this case it felt like it. Overconfidence from just one win left them careless, and now they stared down the barrel at two incredibly skilled duellists. Their grip tightened on their wand, hoping that there was a universe where they could win.

Lightning vs Hufflepuff

With Lindsey gone, Dorion had to face it all alone. The last resort — Bravery Charm — provided some boost of confidence for Dorion and Meenauh watched nice spell splitting of a greatly conjured Flipendo. It was more difficult to aim, but the Bravery Charm should've helped.

It didn't.

The First Flipendo went right above Dealla's head, and she had to quickly duck. Eun-ji just jumped to the side and let the Flipendo pass.

In a swift motion of wands, the Ravenclaw girls synchronically proceeded with their assault. Eun-ji sent some decent wind towards Dorion. Something to cool off the recently injected Bravery. Dealla flicked the wand to cast her most hated spell, and succeeded in conjuring the black piece of cloth right around Dorion's head, tightly covering the eyes.

It wasn't pretty, but it was duelling. Everything can't be pretty.

Spectator Thread, Day 1

A grin spread on Dee's face that matched the glint in her eyes as she nimbly ducked beneath Dorion's spell, then countered with a blindfold that perfectly found its mark. Perhaps she was finally finding her stride in this duel, it had taken long enough. At the same time, Eun-ji managed to hit the Hufflepuff with another well-placed Ventus. She seemed to really like this spell, huh? But Dee wouldn't complain, it was working great. Did she feel bad for Dorion? Maybe a little. It was never fun to face two opponents on your own, and this duel really wasn't going well for them. But it was also what duellists signed up for, and Dee would never let pity slow her down.
