Butterbeer Tasting
The first time she’d heard mention of Hogwarts’ Oktoberfest festivities, Lara had immediately dismissed the idea of attending. She had good reasons not to go: she had few friends to consider going with, she had too much homework to catch up on, she was anxious about the possibility of running into one of her siblings, she was in no mood to pretend to be happy in front of so many people. Simply put, she had no reason to go, and too many reasons to stay. The Mixing Tent // Open to Interactions
But somehow, she’d managed to finish all of her homwork. She’d even studied until she knew the material well enough to recite it back in her sleep. Certainly, this was a first for her student career. She was usually lucky to finish her assignments at her desk the last few minutes before the class started, and usualy for History, she couldn’t even manage that. She liked to learn, but she was by no means a perfect student, or even an ideal one.
But that morning, she was filled with a sudden motivation to do something today. She pulled on a cozy-looking knit sweater, a pair of black skinny jeans, and worn-out brown combat boots. She tried to comb through her dark curls with her fingers, but only managed to make them wilder and frizzier than usual. In the end, she just huffed and shoved her whole mass of hair into a messy bun at the back of her head.
Then, before she could lose her motivation, she began the walk to the festival grounds, following a group of other students making their way down. Fall leaves crunched under her boots; she went out of her way to step on them. The cool air chilled her cheeks, turning them pink.
When she reached the grounds, she slipped into the first tent she saw, sparing a glance at the sign posted by the entrance: The Mixing Tent. Inside, she was met by slightly warmer air, which was better than nothing, she supposed. She could see the new Head of Slytherin hanging around the tent, as well as the new History of Magic professor. Lara had yet to speak to either, but she’d seen them both around the school, and she figured she probably should introduce herself eventually - before she ended up in some sort of trouble, and they would only know her as a troublemaker.
Lara watched a couple other students mix their drinks, wanting to get an idea as to what exactly she was supposed to do before attempting to mix a drink herself. She’d only ever had the original Butterbeer; never any of the fancy flavours. Really, she wasn’t even supposed to have Butterbeer at all. Her father said that the sugar was too much for her to handle, and rarely allowed her more than a couple sips of his own drink or her sister’s. But her father wasn’t here to stop her now. She’d have as much as she pleased, thank you very much.
With that freedom coursing through her veins, she selected the ingredients she wanted to mix into her drink, paying little attention as to what they actually were and more attention to how nice they looked or smelled. When she was satisfied with her choices, she moved to the nearest free cauldron and dumped the ingredients into the mixture, using her left hand to stir simultaneously. Once she was satisfied at it was all thoroughly combined, she poured herself a cup and moved to the side of the tent to try it, watching the other students and professors curiously.
Ingredients:
One handful of chocolate
One spoonful of cinnamon
One spoonful of rose oil
One spoonful of anise

Butterbeer Tasting
Interacting with Professor Jensen (briefly), Amadea Campbell, and Bloom Silverton
The two older girls were nice, to say the least- Amadea and Bloom, both pretty names fit for pretty girls with pretty personalities. They both exuded the same sense of childish innocence that you would normally find in a five-year-old, and somehow, Elijah found himself feeling like Holden Caulfield, a catcher in the rye, even if he was younger than both of them.
The Sarsaparilla seemed to be a popular choice, but Elijah would find himself drawn to a different flavor. Tossing his empty cup of Nutmeg, he would turn back to Professor Jensen, who had given him his first cup, and asked, "Could I have a cup of Sweet and Spicy butterbeer, please? Hot, as well." The name intrigued him- how could something be both sweet and spicy at the same time? As he received his cup, he heard an exclamation of disgust from Bloom.
Turning around quickly, he watched as she proclaimed the nastiness of Black Licorice, nearly begging them to not drink it. He could only imagine how awful it tasted- he, himself, had never cared for the black candy, and having it infused into a drink sounded ridiculous. Amadea, clever and quick-witted, held out her own cup of Sarsaparilla. Her logic was sound- the overly sweet flavors might be able to counteract the bitterness of the licorice. In some odd way, he felt kind of like a potioneer, or a doctor, trying to cure someone's side effects.
"Bloom, are you alright?" he asked, stepping forward with a look of concern etched into his face. "Goodness, you must've really not liked licorice. Do you need a glass of water?" A comforting touch on her arm, quickly withdrawn afterward would suffice, and he would take a small step back to let Amadea's automatic superiority take over. He truly felt bad for the Ravenclaw, and thanked her mentally for taking one for the team. That was a bullet he certainly wanted to dodge.
Remembering his own drink in his hands, he slowly raised it to his lips, wary of the flavor that was about to hit him. The spice so harshly reminded him of his grandmother's cooking, bringing tears of nostalgia, not pain, to the corners of his eyes. "Wow," he choked out, coughing into his elbow to clear his throat. "That's..." How could he explain the memories attached to the flavor, the sweet and the spice that contrasted yet blended so smoothly together?
"It's really good," he managed to say, blinking any emotion away from his face. "Although rather spicy. I'd say to proceed with caution- but indeed, it's quite a unique blend of flavors. I highly recommend it." That response seemed adequate enough- or, so he hoped.
Sometimes, you just have to play the role of a fool to fool the fool who thinks they're fooling you.

As he was speaking to the History of Magic professor, another professor came over to intervene, one he didn't recognize as a teacher of any class he'd taken yet. "There's a tent outside, with the potions professor. He can whip up a cure for her." Arthur turned to look where she had indicated, spotting the smaller tent sitting between the other larger two. Inside, the potions professor was sitting beside a large gold cauldron. "Tell him she used too much Alihotsy," she said. He turned back to the teacher and nodded gratefully.
"Thanks, professor!" he said, running back over to his friend. He saw Lara entering the Tasting Tent behind him and wanted to talk to her, but had his hands a little bit full at the moment.. Hopefully he would get a chance to meet up with her later. He put a hand on Aurelia's shoulder gently, to get her attention. "Hey..." he said, softly. "They said that you can get an antidote over there," he told her, pointing over to the Portion Master's tent. "Are you okay to walk? Or do you want me to get it for you?" The effects of his own concoction appeared to be wearing off already, the sudden concern putting a damper on the excited, overly energetic feeling he'd experienced earlier.
It seemed like a lot of people had over done it on their drinks, he thought, looking around. At least Aurelia wasn't throwing up like some of the students...

Downing her concoction, Adelaide was pretty confident. She thought she went a pretty safe route to start out with. All ingredients were a similiar taste and should only act to sweeten the base.
She smiled at her success. It turned out pretty fantastic, if she was honest. She sweetness truly held together the way she thought, and the mashmallows actually foamed the way she imagined. She gave herself some credit, she did enjoy the hobby of cooking and was decently skilled in it.
She grinned at Aoi. Japan, unfortunately, was not in Adelaide's life tour, at least yet. And so she was unfamiliar with the language as well. It was unfortunate, besides Professor Cazarez, no other fauclty member spoke one of the languages she did. And her and Cazarez almost never conversed that way.
Well perhaps one day Aoi could give her a quick lesson. As for now she saw the tent was rapidly being filled with excited students, ready to brew their own concoction. She wished them luck and gave a quick wave to Aoi as she exited the mixing tent.
She was ready to head back up to her office and get a few things done before her next class. But before she could she made sure to stop by Professor Nagals little set up. Nagal had pitched his idea quite late in the process and so Adelaide, at that time, haf already moved onto other things. So it was Nora and Aoi who talked with Nagal, Adelaide herself had only briefly met the man when he was hired, like every other new staff member.
She walked over to his setup, and was immediately impressed by his shiny golden cauldron. Adelaide wasn't really skilled in potions as her life simply led her a different way, though, like cooking, she could see it to be a fun hobby. She wondered if the golden material of the cauldron affected the brewing process.
She greeted him quickly, "Hello Professor. Great idea for this tent! Some children do get carried away." She chuckled to herself.
"Have you had many patrons yet? How are you enjoying Oktoberfest? I know it's only just begun..." She trailed off, she was rather proud of the event and hoped it went well with her colleagues.

Butterbeer Tasting
Mia was... Mia had been right. Indeed, the butterbeer wasn't vegan, and the precautions they had taken months ago in the kitchens were in good faith. Disappointed, Ami bit her lip, but brightened up as Professor Jensen offered an alternative solution. It daunted her to approach the Potion Professor, who seemed to be a surly, gruff fellow, but Scott would insist upon going to him anyway.Interactions: Scott Alexander, Anton Nagal
Location: Nagal's Mini-Tent
He had seemed quite alarmed and personally offended when she had admitted to him that she'd never had butterbeer before. Even Mia had seemed surprised, and both Alexander cousins had insisted that she try the apparently iconic wizarding drink. So iconic, apparently, it was the equivalent of a year-round pumpkin spice latte.
"Thanks for your help, Professor," she said, before grabbing Scott's wrist to drag him with her to the Potions Professor. If she was going to face him, he was going to come with her. As they stepped outside of the Tasting Tent and back into the normal sunlight, she spotted the tent that Professor Jensen had spoken of, and marched over with Scott in tow.
"Professor Nagal!" she called out in greeting, waving a careless hand. "Professor Jensen sent us." That, of course, would ensure his attention, as they all knew Professor Jensen might've been the scariest and most intimidating professor currently in attendance at the school. "I'm Ami, and this is Scott. She sent me because I'm a vegan, and she said that you could mix up a vegan butterbeer...?"

Her blonde hair flung as she turned her head to meet the glance of her ginger friend, smiling at him as he greeted her with enthusiasm. Her skin that was so closely linked with white, glass china, that blinded the eye with its paleness, briefly went red at her being addressed. Nervous as she was, her emotions got the better of her once again. She could have died of embarrassment then and there at the thought of how anxious she could appear some days.
"Bonjour," She began, smiling, her color resettling. "ah- I am good, I suppose." She started, taking another sip of her drink. "It is a bit chilly, but I have found that I do not mind as much as I thought I would." A soft laugh made it past her lips, and she brushed some of her soft hair away from her eyes. in truth, she had not anticipated the October weather (she was generally unprepared for most things), but it wasn't all that bad. A little chill had never hurt anyone.
She nodded her head fondly. "I'm having the chocolate one," She started, nodding down to her cup. "It is quite the interesting flavor, I have noted that, but in any case, it is nice. I almost found myself pondering the Nutmeg one, but I am a chocolate lover." She explained diligently, smiling. She allowed herself to readjust her hair once more, seeing as though it was still messed up from the wind. Her hands stung with the icy cold, the pads of her fingers glowing a bright red. She was cold as stone, but she was not ready to admit such. It was not in her nature to retreat. She has run the streets of New York, so she decided that it was a possibility that she survived through colder.
Taking another gentle sip, she now regretted not getting a hot beverage, but she was content. Her mind was keen on surviving this, no matter how cold she got. "How are you?" She finally asked, kicking herself for how rude she was. First, she met him in a Hospital bed, which was not the most ideal way to make someone's acquaintance, and then she didn't even have the courtesy to properly greet him! What kind of friend was Alexx, anyway? But she let it pass, as she reminded herself that she was new to the whole "friendship" ordeal, which was no doubt Quinn's fault in this case, as he was ever so friendly! She really needed to stop befriending those who were clad in those yellow and gray colors; those badgers were traps, always willing to befriend you, always making conversation. It was a nightmare if you ever wished yourself to be the lone wolf, but a blessing indeed when you didn't need to be the lone wolf, which she suspected every Hufflepuff thought so.
But these thoughts were not to be confused with Alexx disliking anyone. No, she was a people person as much as she was a people pleaser. Never would she turn away from a new face, even less so would she deny one that was familiar. Alexx craved that sort of companionship in her life, which she always knew she was lacking. Quinn seemed to know so too, or otherwise, he might not have stuck around. She was grateful, considering he was such a nice friend. "Doing well, I hope?" She spoke again, her smile never once fading from her rosy red cheeks. She could feel her nose start to burn again, much to her dismay. It was not a pleasant feeling, the cold, and while stating externally that she was a friend to it, internally she was regretting her lie; Alexx was no longer fond of this weather.

[FONT="Century Gothic"]Smiling Quinn always enjoyed that simple, yet effective way of conveying one's own emotions. There was something about it that triggered a sense of satisfaction inside Quinn. It was as though when someone smile, like genuinely smiled at him. He himself felt that he accomplished something significant.
The redhead who was often seen as just a curious, but observant goofball felt that by causing someone to genuinely smile. He in turn was able to bring a little bit of happiness to their laugh, or lift their spirits, or perhaps just be that one person that gave them a bit of kindness on an otherwise brutal day.
Now Quinn hadn't known Alexx very long, and the circumstances of their meeting was strange after all. To Quinn however the boy with a curiosity that could never be sated, it didn't matter. Once he had his eyes set on making you his friend, that was it. Because eventually he would succeed.
All of these thoughts flowed through his head as he listened to her, and took long sips of his cold caramel flavored butterbeer. You see Quinn loved the cold, sometimes he wondered if he secretly craved it. This was the boy who once ran in the middle of winter to see the snow in nothing but his shorts and short sleeve sleep wear. Granted he caught a brutally bad cold, and was severely scolded for being so reckless...again. To him the effort was still heavily worth it however.
"Chocolate? We'll have to try that next we will. We got this caramel flavored butterbeer and it's..." He paused taking another sip nearly emptying his small cup of the magnificiently smooth stuff. ...So smooth and so sweet. We can see why most might not like this? But for me this is absolute heaven!" The boy was so easily excited, but showing clear enthusiasm for something he obviously took great joy in.
Quinn grinned hearing her last question. "Oh ya know me Alexx I'm always keeping things...Frosty." A satisfied and pleased grin came across his face. He looked absolutely giddy nearly unable to hold back his own laugh at the terrible pun he made at his friends expense. The boy was truly curious to see how Alexx would react to it. He really hoped he made her laugh with that, the blue color of his eyes seeming to shine brighter with a certain purpose and light in em.

Butterbeer Tasting
The taste of the Black Licorice was leaving a rotten taste on her tongue. She could not help but the taste it over and over again the more she smacked her lips together. She was beyond annoyed that she "took one for the team" but it was her decision.Interactions: Elijah Haung & Amadea Campbell

Elijah asked if she wanted some water and she nodded her head. Perhaps that was a lot better than wasting her drink number on a regular butterbeer. They only had twelve and she was on number three. She did not want to waste it on the regular flavor, especially when black licorice was still stuck in her taste buds. "Thank you," she said to the Slytherin. Bloom was truly enjoying the company of the Slytherin.
While waiting for the water, Amadea had offered her butterbeer. The flavor was Sarsaparilla. It was what she had tasted before. "Genius idea," she said, grabbing her half-filled cup and tasting the epic sweetness that was swishing in her mouth. It was less sweet than before, but perhaps it was the black licorice that was playing with the flavor. Even so, it truly took out the bitterness.
"Thank you, Amadea! Here, let me get you a drink," she said, wanting to return the thank you with a drink. The Hufflepuff did give her half a cup of her twelve. She might as well return the offer. "Which one do you want?" she asked with a smile, her pink lips slightly chapped from the cold weather and butterbeer tastes.
Although she had a number of drinks left, Bloom was a bit interested in what the other tent would be like. Now that she met a couple people, she wondered if they would come with her or if she would go alone. Asking never hurt. "Do you guys want to try the mixing tent?" she asked both Elijah and Amadea. Maybe they would be willing to, who knows.

Butterbeer Tasting
There wasn’t much for Anton to do while he waited. For the most part, the tasting tent seemed relatively calm, and that alone was amazing. From a standpoint that he had - which included fifteen years of teaching experience and more than that as a professional (okay, also semi-professional if he was talking about his Hogwarts classes) Alchemist… mixing ingredients half-heartedly was never a good idea. He was thoroughly amused at the fact that many children weren’t already suffering weird side effects. He pondered this as he leaned back a little. His bright, blue eyes danced along the students. At least everyone was having fun. That was all that mattered, right?interactions: Adelaide Ayers, Ami Procoppio, Scott Alexander
His thoughts were interrupted at first as the other, semi-senior professor (senior in this case relating to her tenure at Hogwarts), came up and spoke. A smile danced idly across his face as she complimented his idea. It wasn’t like he put too much thought into it. As the potion master, he knew the consequences of overambitious students with such open ended abilities: handfuls of spices? For one little cup of butterbeer? That was just outlandish. “I’m glad you approve of my idea. I felt it was really only natural to have someone who can help students who have gone a touch overboard. Eleven and twelve year olds don’t know the limits of many mixtures,” he said simply. It was true. Very rarely did he tutor students as young as first and second years in his years of teaching, but he knew how slightly older students were. Children got overly excited. They didn’t listen to instructions. It wouldn’t surprise him if things turned… chaotic quickly.
Before he could answer any of Professor Ayer’s questions, though, a set of students trampled up. He didn’t mind that they interrupted the adult conversation, and he rose an eyebrow. Of course Ms. Jensen would send students his way with such requests. He allowed himself a moment before he pushed himself from his seat and tucked it away before pulling out a solid brass cauldron. With a quick flick of the wand, the fire started underneath it, and another wave sent items from hidden containers underneath the shelvings towards him. “I will start the ingredients for you, but the rest you can do yourselves,” he told the students, “I will get this started, and you’ll be required to stir it. If you want to do the mixing tent, all you have to do is mix in your ingredients and when you’re ready, either I or Professor Ayers will add hot water for you. Do be careful,” he warned.
Into the brass cauldron went coconut milk, sugar, salt and some vanilla, all the basis for a vegan butterscotch syrup. It’d substitute the butter and would allow the taste of a butterbeer concoction similar to the original. He gave a wave of his wand to get it stirring, set a wooden spoon to the side and waved the students over. Once he was sure they were set, he returned to Professor Ayers. “Those two are my first patrons. Seems the students are either dealing with their crazy effects, or I’m far too scary for people to interact with. Either is fine with me. How has your Oktoberfest been thus far?” he quipped, an eyebrow raising towards his coworker.
