Mark speaking | Mark's thoughts

One afternoon, Mark was bored, so he decided to go out to the grounds. He didn't want to be in the library or his common room doing homework, so he decided to take a walk and get some fresh air and forget about all his homework. He only had one more assignment to do than he'll be all done.

Mark really wants to make some new friends with not only people in his house, or having the same blood status as him. He wanted to make friends with people in other houses and that have other blood status's.

Once Mark got to the ground's, he decided to take a walk around and figure out where he could sit. When he found a nice tree, he decided to walk over to it. He than tried to climb the tree. He was able to climb it, so he sat down on the first branch he came too.

He decided to look around and see if he could make friends with anyone today. But, than again, maybe no one saw him since he was sitting in a tree all alone. And the tree definitely was big and the leaves were covering him. But he still hopped that someone would come over and talk to him and maybe become his friend.

─────Seven was walking around the school grounds, a paperback book tucked under their arm. The grounds were probably their second favorite place at Hogwarts - the library being their first, of course. Everything about the school was so magical. Sometimes it was a little overwhelming. But, the grounds didn't have any spontaneously moving staircases. It was less strange than the inside of Hogwarts.

Anyways, Seven was walking through a wooded area when they spotted a nice tree. Now, they were surrounded by trees, but this one seemed perfect to lean against as they opened their book and read.

Oftentimes, Ravenclaws were depicted as book-loving. However, that didn't apply to everyone sorted into that house. The majority, though read a lot. Seven was a part of that larger number that could usually be found with a book.

They sat down by the tree and opened up the book. They were maybe halfway through and it was really good.

Before they could read much, they heard a noise coming from above them. As if someone was there, resting on a tree branch. Or it was just a squirrel. Still, Seven didn't want to be pranked or anything.

"Hello?" they tried to sound confident, but it was hard when they couldn't even see who they were talking to - if they were speaking to anyone at all.

Mark speaking | Mark's thoughts

Mark didn't notice anyone coming over to the tree he was sitting in until he heard a voice. He wondered if he should reply to the voice.

"I should reply to them, right? Well, if I want to make some friends, I should." Mark thought. He than said,
"Hello, I am Mark Myers. Would you like me to come down so we can be face to face? Or would you like to come up here?"

Mark now wondered if he should come down or not, but he decided to wait for their reply. He knew he'd be able to make some friends, but he wonders if this person would like to be friends with Mark. Mark tried to look down at the person, but he almost fell. So, he decided to wait for them to either come up to where he was, or tell him to go down to where they are for Mark to get a look at them. He than decided to say,
"So, what's your name? I already introduced myself. I'd like to now know your name, please."

Mark said this kindly. He knew in order to be friends with someone, you need to be kind to that person so they can be kind to you and hopefully they'll become your friend.

─────They were slightly surprised to hear a response. He introduced himself as Mark Myers - an unfamiliar name.

Seven studied the tree. They didn't have a lot of experience climbing trees, but what was the harm in trying? That single thought made things worse. They began thinking about everything that could go wrong. What if they fell and broke their neck? Magic could fix and heal most injuries, but if they died instantly... Well, let's just say it would be too late for Seven.

Except, they were getting the feeling that they should climb the tree. They needed to do things like that, to be fun - not negative - to make friends.

There was a little knob in the tree and Seven gripped it to help them jump up to a branch. They managed to succeed without making them look like a weird person and found themself face-to-face with a boy about their age.

"My name is Seven," they said in reply to his question, although they made sure to mumble the last word.

Introductions were always the worst part of meeting someone new. The person would question Seven's name - whether out loud or in their head. Seven preferred it when they didn't say anything about how their name was a number.

Mark noticed that the person who was at the tree began to climb it. Mark was happy that he didn't have to go down, since he really did like the view from the tree. Even though he can't see a lot. He than noticed that he sat beside him. He looked at saw that they were around his age which made him very happy. He than heard them introduce themselves as Seven. Mark than said,
"Nice to meet you Seven. I like that name. It seems very cool."

What Mark said was true. He really does like Seven's name. He wondered why they muttered there name, but then he realized it was probably because other people would question why there name was Seven. But, Mark really didn't mind what someone's name was. Because some people have different names that they think aren't normal, but Mark thinks that all names are normal.

"Hmmmmmmmmmmm, what are you reading?" Mark asks.

He noticed that they have a book in there hands, and Mark really wanted to know what they were reading to see if he's read it before or if he'd like to read it. But, now he just needs to wait until Seven replies.

Asking @Seven Finney what book they are reading

─────Mark thought the name was cool. He didn't question why their parents had named them after a number.

Seven steadied themself on the branch as Mark continued talking. He was asking another question, this time about Seven's book.

They glanced at the book and held it up so he could see the title. "It's called The Book Thief. It was written by a Muggle named Markus Zusak. It's about this girl who lives in Germany during World War II and her foster parents are hiding a Jewish man in their basement. The writing style is more advanced than I'm used to, but the details are amazing. I'd recommend it."

Well, Seven had ruined that quickly. Mark had probably just been trying to make conversation. He didn't want to know all that. Especially since they had been talking so much about it. The Book Thief was good, though. Seven couldn't deny it.

"Um, so, what year are you in?" An attempt to change the subject.

They were pretty sure Mark was a first year, but they didn't want to make a mistake and embarrass themself. That would be even worse than, say, talking a ton about a book - even though it was amazing.

Mark speaking | Mark's thoughts

When Seven told Mark about the book, Mark realized he has never heard of it, but it did sound interesting.

"That seems interesting, even though I have never heard of it. Maybe I'll read it since they did recommend it." Mark thought.

"That book sound really interesting, where did you get it from? D'you think the schools library will have it? Unless you already got the book from there." Mark says to Seven.

When Seven changed the subject, Mark wondered why, but than he realized Seven probably thought Mark wouldn't be interested in the book since they did say a lot about it, but Mark was interested in the book. He didnt know why but he just was.

Mark than heard Seven ask him what year he is in, Mark wondered if Seven knew he was in first, but he thought that they would be embarrassed if he wasn't a first year.

"I'm a first year. Are you a first year to?" Mark says

Mark didnt mind if Seven wasn't a first year, Mark really doesn't mind if he makes friends with people that aren't in the same year as him. He also wondered what house Seven was in, but he didnt want to ask yet. He wondered if Seven was going to ask him first.

─────"The library might have it. I'm not entirely sure."

Seven was still surprised that Mark seemed to be interested in the book. Maybe... Maybe thinking that the worst was going to happen wasn't that great. Maybe they should have a more positive outlook on things. They could try to, at least.

"Yeah, first year. It's kind of overwhelming, but I like it here at Hogwarts. Magic is amazing. I just want to learn everything about it. Probably why I was sorted into Ravenclaw."

So they were both the same age, but Seven wasn't sure if Mark was in their house. They didn't recognize him from the common room. Of course, they could've not noticed or forgotten. They were always reading, barely looking up unless Seven heard their name. So they could've just been too busy with books. Which wasn't a bad thing. Knowledge is power and all that.

"What house are you in?" Seven asked.

If Mark was also in Ravenclaw, it was a possibility that things could get awkward. He could leave. He could jump off the tree branch and go. Seven hoped that didn't happen. They made a promise to try not to say anything that could go wrong. It would be hard, but what's life without a challenge?

Mark speaking | Mark's thoughts

"Oh ok. I'll check the library during the weekend." Mark says.

When he heard that he and Seven were both first years, he was happy. He than realized that he and Seven aren't in the same house, which makes Mark hopeful that both him and Seven can become friends. Mark than decided to wait until Seven spoke again. This time they asked what house Mark was in. Mark decided to tell them so he said,
"Yay, we're in the same year! Honestly same. My brother is here to help me. But only for two years before he graduates. That's cool that your in Ravenclaw. I'm in Hufflepuff."

Mark now wondered if he should ask Seven what's it like in their house. But, Mark really does want to know. He likes learning about the other houses and what its like being in them. After thinking about how to ask this, the young Hufflepuff finally asked,
"So, what's it like as a Ravenclaw? My mother was a Ravenclaw."

Mark now really wanted to know what their reply was. Mark already knows the traits of Ravencalw and what it was like for his mother, but he wanted to know what Seven thought about their own house.

─────"My mum was a Hufflepuff."

It had been slightly disappointing to learn that Seven wasn't in the same house as their mum had. If they had been sorted into Hufflepuff instead of Ravenclaw, perhaps they would've had different experiences. Then again, Hufflepuffs tended to be extroverts - something Seven was not. Yeah, they were probably more of a Ravenclaw.

"Ravenclaw's great, though. I mean, I'm sure the other houses are like this, but most people in Ravenclaw are similar to me. Like, most people there love reading."

Seven watched a bird fly from tree to tree. It was a sort of pale black color with an orange chest. It was beautiful, its wings flapping as it moved to another branch. So carefree.

Birds didn't have to worry about what others thought. Why did humans have to add social survival to the mix? Animals had it easy. No unspoken rules about what to say or what not to say. And no names like 'Seven'. Wait, were they seriously comparing themself to a bird? That was a whole new level of weird. Seven made a mental note never to say anything like that out loud ever. Yep, lots of rules just because of reputation and popularity.
