Wandering into the tent, Evany entered the baking workshop. Seeing several students gathered around cauldrons, she assumed she was late. Hmm. Oh well. She spotted an large empty cauldron near the back, with no students around it. Preferring to work alone, and desperately hoping no one would join her, Evany made her way over. Scanning the instructions, she stoked the fire, ensuring the flames were constant, was about to get to work, and realized she forgot the ingredients. Returning, she retrieved the ingredients, and spotted her head of house, Professor Jensen. ”Hallo Professor, wie geht es dir?” Looking back at her work station, she saw the fire had died. Shaking her head, she pointed her wand at it, and muttered ‘incendio’, just for it to be immediately extinguished. Raising her eyebrows, she turned back to the Professor. ”I think something’s wrong with my cauldron Professor. Whenever I light it, it extinguishes itself... and yes, I know how to build fires. I did it all the time for my godfather. I may be a minor pyromaniac, but I promise I won’t burn anything down. Evany smirked. ”I think someone may be using Aguamenti on it. Or maybe only a teacher can light it. Actually, that would make sense, prevents accidents. Anyways, sorry for rambling, can you help me?”

The German is “Hello professor, how are you?” Also, for the prefects who are constantly sending me owls whenever I post with a spell in it. I have incendio. First year first class herbology. I don’t know why it doesn’t appear in my trunk.

Anton didn't have to wait too long once the fire underneath the cauldron started for Nora to appear at his table. He gave a cursory glance towards her and shrugged his shoulders slightly at her words, "I'm sure there would be plenty of people who would pass up the opportunity. Alchemy isn't a well known practice anymore. Who needs resurrection stones and gold when money is so affluent nowadays?" he simply quipped towards her. He watched as the fires burned a little cooler, but then turned his attention from the flames towards Nora. He had no doubt he knew what he was doing with a cauldron. As not just a potion master but also an alchemist, he knew the temperatures of cauldrons. Too bad these were the pewter cauldrons. Every day student cauldrons. Baking would've been better if he brought his better ones.

He hummed quietly and glanced over the top of the recipe before he went to get the first ingredients. Butter, honey and brown sugar. He'd leave the actual measurements for Miss Jensen, preferring the part where he'd deal with with the only potion related item on the table. As he busied himself with getting their first ingredients, a child walked into their space. A child. Who decided to speak German. And then proceeded to attempt an Incendio underneath her cauldron, and then blamed others for her inability.

He breathed out. Children.

"I will help you light the fire this one time, but I suggest the next time you interrupt adults, you make it very clear you actually need something. Professor Pendrast is running the event, and next time you need help, I suggest you ask her or one of the Prefects first. Miss. Stewart and Miss. Beckett are also capable students to aid in helping."

He was cordially polite, but his patience was wearing thin. Adults were also allowed to have as much fun as the students, without needing to supervise every little activity. He'd simply light the fire under Evany's cauldron - just a small one because to him, the Slytherin didn't seem that attentive towards it - and then would return to Nora. That being said and done, he set the ingredients he was previously attempting to gather in front of her and breathed out slowly.

"Apologies. To answer your question, no. I haven't ever made Lebkuchen before. I'm assuming you have?" he quipped simply, opening the butter up. The fire underneath their cauldron cackled and he held up the first ingredient, "I can melt and stir if you want to measure things out? At least that way we're both doing something? You seem the type to like to lead in stuff like this, anyways," he teased.

Hjørdis skimmed the first step, which required heating some ingredients. Her gaze flickered to the cauldron, almost double checking it was on the right temperature. Of course, it was perfect. There was no real surprise there. If it had not been, she would have been the first to complain. When it came to the cauldron, she expected nothing less than perfection from his side of things. He was, pretty much, in charge of the cauldron by default. That was, after all, his job. Hjørdis quirked an eyebrow as she heard him humming quietly to himself but said nothing about it. Dutifully, he went off to get the ingredients. Hjørdis approved of this. She would have gotten them herself if he had not but she preferred for someone else to do it. She could just stand there and delegate the tasks. That was much more fun.

Finishing with the instructions, she dropped the page down onto the station and checked the equipment that had been already set up in front of them. It was just a confirmation to make sure they had everything. A young child, perhaps first year, appeared by the table. The girl spoke in German?! Hjørdis raised an eyebrow at the child, having absolutely no idea what she was saying. Though she understood a few words from various languages, her German was very limited indeed. It was pretty much close to, well, none to be quite honest. She was not German but it sounded like German to her. "Excuse me? You may have me confused with someone else... I do not speak or understand German," She simply stated, wondering why the first year thought she was German or would understand it.

Another Professor may have been German, perhaps the child had simply gotten confused. However, the girl proceeded to explain an issue with her cauldron. She rambled on for a little while. Hjørdis stood there just watching her before nodding, "Very well-" She started, agreeing to assist the girl and fix her cauldron for her. However, before she could do so, Professor Nagal had returned and replied. Though he was polite, his mood seemed a little sour from the interaction.

Hjørdis narrowed her eyes slightly at the Potions Professor. Children were allowed to ask questions. She would much rather they asked than burnt the whole school down. However, she was not about to reprimand the man in front of his students, even though she really wanted to. The Professors were there to teach, after all. So instead of verbally telling him to behave, she simply gave him a look that said it.

Looking at the student with a much more neutral look, she nodded, "Professor Pendrast or the aforementioned Prefects are best placed to help you today," She momentarily mused to herself that the three of them would be a lot nicer to ask than someone like Nagal, who was clearly not in the mood to deal with children. She was very tempted to add 'However, Professor Nagal would be thrilled to help you throughout the day too' but she felt like he would murder her if she forced him to deal with more children all day. The thought itself amused her though. It took a lot of self-discipline to keep a straight face and not say anything else.

Turning back to the station, she pulled the ingredients he had brought over closer and picked up the scale. She had already placed the scales in front of her when Nagal reappeared. "I have not," She replied to his question, still wondering why the student thought she was German or would have understood it. "Do I look German to you too?" She asked him with a raised eyebrow, still a little confused.

Hjørdis automatically took the offered butter from him. She had planned to measure things out from the start anyway. Placing it onto the table, she cut a portion of it off and dropped it into the scales. 123g. She was just shy with her estimation and added a touch more to reach the required measurement. Focusing on the scales, she smirked a little before replying, "No, Professor Nagal, I'm the type that likes to lead in general," She was a Slytherin, after all. Her ambitions were high and they aimed to be leaders, great leaders. There was no doubt about it, she was one who preferred to lead than follow orders. She shot a quick glance to him, the small smirk on her face in response to his tease as she nodded to the butter to indicate it was correct and he could mix it into the potion, "I'm the Head of a House, of course I lead." She continued. Well, you can't say she's not arrogant. Of course she is, she worked hard just so she could be arrogant.

With that, Hjørdis took the jar of honey and cracked it open to start measuring it out. Within a few moments, she had 125 grams of butter, 250 grams of honey and 100 grams of brown sugar ready for him to heat and mix.

Interacting with Bloom Silverton
Ben apparently chose not to focus on Bloom when the instructions were given. It took a lot of his willpower to listen to the professor rather than wonder what Bloom was doing or thinking. That was likely a good choice as it seemed Bloom was doing quite the opposite. By the time the instructions were finished he felt Bloom brushing up against his hand. His heart skipped a beat and he instantly glanced over to the girl. His ex-girlfriend was reaching out, or maybe it was an accident. He had put his hand towards her but there was no way she would return the feelings.

"Oh, sorry." He said, pulling his hand away while blaming himself for touching her hand.

The ingredients and tools were all presented in front of them at their station alongside a paper reminder of what to do. It seemed simple enough to Ben who baked a lot at home. He still loved Bloom so he wanted to help her learn rather than do it all alone. Though he wouldn't admit that out loud. Ben knew she must have moved on by now and not wanted to hear about his feelings.

"What part do you want to work on?" He asked, smiling to her genuinely. "I can mix the spices and stuff up if you want to melt stuff."

After giving the suggestion, Ben began to pour ingredients into a bowl after carefully measuring them. The spices were not very clearly described so he guessed on that bit based on what his mom used to put into cookies. It felt adequate and hopefully would taste good. Ben wanted to impress Bloom so it had to be perfect. He wished he could grab her hand and guide her, be close to her, and comfort her like he had in the past. It was over and he had to try to move on. The masked boy did not deserve love.

He moved his hand away. Perhaps this answered her questions. He doesn't love me anymore... Bloom felt the tears coming at the surface of her eyes. She quickly looked down and pretended to focus on the ingredients list, holding back her tears; hiding it from Ben. Blinking a few times, the tears had finally held back. She took a deep breath in and felt back in place.

"I'll melt stuff," she said, finally looking up at Ben, seeing his smile. It only made her smile back although she felt torn on the inside. "So how do I melt stuff?" she asked, a bit embarrassed that she truly had no idea how to bake. She felt as though this should have been an important skill to have-- to show Ben what she was capable of. But now? She was capable of nothing. She had nothing to show.

Sighing, Bloom looked at the melting ingredients. "I'm useless," she whispered faintly to herself. She held her breath for a second wondering if he just heard her. The worst thing she could now do is not only show that she was not capable, but now she hated herself for it. She shook off the thought and grabbed the butter that was in front of them with her bare hands. Holding it, she looked around in what she could put it in. The butter, melting in her hands, was slightly slipping away. "Quick! Where do I put this?" she asked, feeling lost with the amount of resources that were in front of her.

Laughing off the overwhelming, Bloom looked at Ben, the butter still in her hands. "I guess it's melting...," she joked, seeing the butter still melt in her hands, her smile sheepish.

Out of the corner of his eyes Ben saw Bloom struggle with her role in the whole thing. Had she not been listening at all to the instructions? He would not help but laugh at her as she began to panic a little, a big grin on her face. For the moment he forgot all about the mask and the dark times. Laughing with Bloom again with no evil lurking behind him was the best he had felt in months. Ben's smile was wide by the time he was able to stop laughing and help.

"Put it in the cauldron silly!" He said loudly with a giggle, looking into her eyes with joy. "And tap it twice, with your wand. It's that wooden thing that does magic?"

Ben was just teasing her now. His ears turned red but were luckily mostly hidden by his hair. This was the life he longed for again. He wanted to throw away the past and pretend he never found that mask. Bloom used to be the most important thing in his life and maybe she still was. Maybe he could be sneaky about being close to her. She seemed affectionate still despite clearly not liking him anymore. Ben placed his hands on Bloom's hands to help her put that slippery stick of butter into the cauldron.

While Ben thought it would be harmless, he clammed up quickly. Holding her hands even with this silly activity shook him a bit. It wouldn't be well hidden either. His face would turn red, he would laugh awkwardly, and look into her eyes. She'd probably smack him and he knew this. Ben had to try to recover quickly so it would be less awkward. He let go of her hands and looked away, back to his own activity. His face was still beet red though.

Bloom could not help but to laugh extremely hard. Their interaction was natural and free despite the feelings that were hidden in her heart. It was as though these two were made for each other-- only obstacles such as the mask was in their way.

Ben had made a remark about the wand and Bloom's jaw dropped with even more laughter. She did not expect him to be sarcastically witty back at her. Staring at him for a second, she finally remembered that the butter was still slipping and melting in her hands. She moved her hands over the cauldron that he instructed her and was about to put it in when his hands touched hers. Bloom could feel a shake, and it wasn't hers. She was unsure of what it was but ignored it.

Her cheeks turned red and she could feel her body heating up without understanding why. Bloom took a deep breath and tried to put the moment in the back of her mind. She tried to hold his hand and he didn't return the act. He didn't love her anymore.

"Okay, fine. So I put it in the cauldron. I take out my stick and bang it three times. No! Two times. I got this," she said, finally getting all the butter (with Ben's help) into the cauldron. Bloom looked at her hands and saw that they were oily from the butter. She looked around the table and grabbed a white towel that was sitting nicely on the corner. Grabbing the towel, she wiped her hands. Once finished, she went into her robe and grabbed her wand from the inside pocket. "Two times? Two times," she said, questioning and answering herself.

Bloom took her wand and tapped the cauldron twice. Fire begin to form from underneath the cauldron. The butter began to melt slowly. Bloom looked back at the recipe and saw that she needed to include honey and brown sugar. Putting her wand down on the table, she grabbed the honey and looked back at the recipe. It called for 250g of honey. Bloom looked at the measuring cups and could not figure out which one to use. She looked at Ben and pouted her lips with a quick smile afterwards.

"Which one do I use?" she asked, biting her lip in confusion while looking at each measuring cup, hoping that she did not look dumb. She truly needed help, and in addition, deep down, she wanted Ben to touch her once more. His hands on hers was what she missed-- his touch.

"Can't melt butter, but can melt a heart..." Ben had not quite meant to say out loud, and hoped that Bloom wouldn't hear it over her focus on the cauldron.

Ben finished his part of the process about the same time Bloom finally got the cauldron lit. Now she was asking for more help and did not even seem mad about their earlier... hand holding. False hope was dangerous though and the boy had to keep his head on straight. They broke up. She took his advice to stay away. It would be selfish to do that and then dive back in, wouldn't it? She had to be angry anyways and was just good at hiding it. Behind great laughter and... smiles.

"Well, you need 250 grams of honey and this cup says 250 grams so fill that one up then dump it in with the butter." He tried his best to sound friendly and helpful, even picking up the cup to hand it to Bloom. "Same with the other ingredients, Bloom. Wizards learn to read, right?"

A large grin crossed his face as he delivered the jab at her. Ben's hand with the first measuring cup rested in her hand for a moment as he gave it to her. She was warm, comforting, and electrifying. It took so much effort not to linger. So he didn't put in the effort. Ben lingered there for a while and looked at her, his smile fading to a neutral expression, maybe even one of fear. Love fought even the logical bits that told him not to do this. Ben wondered if she would pull away or accept it. He had to know if there was something still there or it'd drive him crazy.

What did he just say? she asked herself. She thought she heard something about a heart, but she could be wrong. Bloom was unsure of what he meant by that, so instead, she paid attention to the recipe and the findings of the measuring cup.

Jaw dropped, Bloom was about to hit him. Her left hand was relaxed on the table and her right hand was coming up ready for a friendly slap on the shoulder. "You're mean, Eckenrode," she teased and her hand was about to slap him when she felt warmth on her left hand. She paused and looked down at her hand. His hand was in hers, giving her the measuring cup.

She had gotten the touch she wanted; the touch she needed. The touch lingered longer than it should. What's happening... Does he love me? Is he teasing me? she thought, not understanding how to handle the situation that was happening right before her eyes. Should she hold his hand? Should she back away? What should she be doing? Bloom, stood there for just as long as Ben had been lingering his hand, staring at it.

"I miss you," she faintly whispered, mainly to herself but a deep part of her hoped for him to hear. She wanted to be with him; to have him hold her. But the idea of him being the mask stopped her. She broke up with him because she could not handle the idea that there was an evil mask that took over him. What kind of person would she be if she went back with him? Would she be able to handle what he's been going through? Would she be able to support him?

Bloom's parents support each other through thick and thin. Although they have financial troubles, they still are there for each other. Bloom did not feel she was that mature yet. She was not an adult. She still wanted to have fun and go on adventures -- not worry about important matters. But still... Ben should have had the same outcome of having fun. Instead, he had to deal with scarred experiences that weren't even his own doing.

All these thoughts were wrestling in her mind. But that was just it: they were thoughts. What did her heart feel? I love Ben Eckenrode, she answered. Bloom, still looking at his hand looked up at him. His eyes, soft she turned her lips into a small smile and closed her fingers on his hand. She had given him a sign and maybe he would get it. If not, then perhaps no matter how much she loved Ben, he probably did not feel the same way back.

Interacting with Aurelia
“Oh, I see.” Howie would respond to her being of Dutch and German lineage. He looked over to her with a smile, which would falter slightly as she wouldn’t meet his eyes. Doubt filled him, for she seemed to be slightly uncomfortable with his presence. “My family owns a small bakery back in Manchester. With our combined experience we should do well.” Howie mumbled a little awkwardly, dragging his hand through his hair out of habit.

Fortunately for the young Hufflepuff, Aurelia would continue on, sparing them from an uncomfortable silence. However, the subject made Howie wince. She spoke of Rosie, the masked boy and missing friends. He replied with a heavy heart, “Yes. Rosie is gone too. Her parents were already uncomfortable with her attending school here, and after the scare with the masked boy and her injury during the walk in they pulled her out of Hogwarts. They won’t even let her take owls.” He cleared his throat after speaking, now grateful that she wasn’t looking at him as his eyes shown bright with emotion.

Another stroke of luck. Professor Pendrast addressed the group. Howie reached out and grabbed the floating parchment and laid in down between himself and Aurelia. “Pretty straightforward.” He called out to her as he skimmed it over, again looking to her for a response, still she looked away. “Aurelia...am I making you uncomfortable? Is it because of the potion in the abandoned toilets. I didn’t mean for you to get hurt.”
