Akihiko often found himself successful at home, but since his arrival to Hogwarts things seemed to go wrong more and more often.
Akihiko had been successful with his first attack, and he assumed it would go well again in his second round. If it didn’t, there wouldn’t be much he could do. Just keep on pushing on. He saw others around him were also going on the offensive side, and he considered switching to defense briefly, but continued on with his offensive attack.
He aimed…and was successful! He lanced his opponent, and was delighted to see he was successful. Unfortunately, so was his opponent, who had also lanced him.
Most of the participants had succeeded with their attacks, but not all. Some of the participants hadn’t been near as lucky. He scanned the field to see what had happened around him, muttering a hasty “よくできた.”1 to his partner.
He was more invested in the success and fails of the around him rather than his own game. He noted quizzically that two of the players were leaving, one of them being his cousins partner. “あなたのパートナーはどこへ行くのですか?”2 He called to his cousin, who just shrugged in response.a.
While he prepared for his next move, he trained his eyes on his opponent for clues on what they could be doing. “幸運を。Good luck.” He said distractedly, shifting his sword in his hand again.

April 21, 2023 - The Spring Court Ball's Knights Tourney
He got back into position after Round 1 and quickly picked up a new lance, one of three he had chosen before the tournament began. The balance was the absolute best on his first lance, but that one had just splintered upon contact with his opponent in the first round, so he now reached for his second choice. The balance was still quite good, but he'd have to hold it further up the hilt as the handle was lighter or the tip was heavier. It could be both at the same time, come to think of it. He didn't study it long enough to determine which, but that was the situation and he'd make the necessary adjustments.
He had a moment now to cast more than a casual glance into the stands. It didn't take him long to see EmmaLee and he smiled. She was almost dead center in the middle of the stands and looked to be cheering. He couldn't, of course, hear her, but he smiled a smile she wouldn't be able to see as his visor was down. It was there though. Her hands were as full as the knights' hands in this tourney. She had the bread and jam she'd picked up at the banquet tables in one hand and a pennant flag in the other. She was smiling and seemed content so he relaxed. Then he started to ponder why a yellow and black flag in her hand. He wasn't certain if that was because she was a Hufflepuff and those were her house colors or if maybe she was holding it because it matched his armor somewhat. He took a quick glance around at what everyone else was wearing and he seemed to be the only dark knight. He swallowed dryly. It could be possi-
Get a grip on yourself, Schwartz. It is just a flag. Probably means nothing, or, at least, not what you think it might mean. Focus, fella!
He then turned all attention and focus back to the field and to his opponent. She hadn't spoken as they passed each other on the first go 'round, but Stephen knew now, at least, that he was jousting against a girl. A stylish one at that, even if style didn't necessarily equate to safety. To each their own. She signed up for this. He certainly wasn't going to pull any punches because she was a girl and assumed that was exactly how the girl would want it to be. He figured she knew her own mind well enough to know what she could and couldn't handle. Clearly, a lance to the chest was something she could handle. Good on her.
He hoped it was about to be two lance blows as the signal was given and they were off again. It was pretty much a rinse and repeat of the first round. She thrust first and missed, just barely, and almost instantaneously, his lance had been raised and once again hit its mark.
The push back of his lance against her chest was filled with all sorts of information. First, he knew his lance hadn't splintered this round, so that was good. He had, however, felt quite a bit more wobbling this round as the force naturally pushed it back against his grip upon impact. Hmmmm... that would definitely need to be adjusted for next round.
As he turned back around to head back to his position for Round 3, his opponent introduced herself as Raizel, and gave a wave. He laughed quietly to himself as she almost fell from her broom with the gesture. "Nice to meet you, Raizel. See you back here in a few minutes. And oh... if you're up for some friendly advice, the trick to this whole match is balance; balance your center of gravity on your broom and then focus on balance with your shield and lance. Good Luck!" and he maneuvered Onyx back into starting position.
One more Round to go in this match. He briefly wondered how many matches there would ultimately be? Four would be his best guess. Sixteen knights becomes eight becomes four becomes the final two. Or perhaps the organizers saw it happening a different way. If he were lucky, and skilled enough to stay in this that long, he wondered how much time would be eaten into his evening with EmmaLee. Sitting up in the stands could be nowhere as much fun as what he was doing and he started to feel a little guilty.
Hoping she might see it, he turned Onyx 90 degrees and looked directly towards her and waved in a grand, sweeping arc. At least she'd know she hadn't been forgotten if she was paying any attention to him at all.

Once again, Cassie lost. Since the last two rounds, Cassie earns zero ponts. She is very disappointed. After all, she never expected such a bad performance in the game. She is thinking of Zach Zaphiere, he is still waiting for her in the Royal Baquet. What will he think of her if she ends the game without earning any points? What would her friends think of her? What would her dorm mates, her housemates, her school mates think of her? She will be embarrassed, very embarrased.
She takes a deep breath. She knows clearly that all she can do now is to do her best and perform well in the next few rounds. She looks at her opponent Cassie, a first year student. They share the same first name, but they might never be friends in the race. She looks at her again, determined to beat her this time. Though you are a fourth year, she thinks in her mind, I am going to beat you this time and prove that I can win you!
What should her next move be? What should she do to win the third round of the game? Defense, attack or taunt? What might be the best strategy? She is thinking...

After the impact of the first round, Ying felt a mix of proud and concern. The two young girls had fly fearlessly against each other not even hesitating for a minute in what was their purpose. But the sound of wood hitting metal made it seem much more violent then what Ying had imagined. So her first instinct was to ask if the other girl was alright. Having fun is one thing, but she really didn't want to seriously hurt Roksana. "I'm fine, but I don't think it's me you have to worry about," said the light-haired girl in a tone that sounded much more arrogant then what Ying was expecting as a reply. That worked like a switched button, turning off her worries and concerns off. "You're right, my foolishness!" The girl with long ebony hair said in return with a false sweet smile, before turning on her heels and prepare for the second round.
This time, Ying will not lose her focus and will not refrain with fear of hurting her opponent, if it is to be like that, then so be it! Mounting her broom again, Ying charged again against Roksana, and like the first time the Gryffindor girl didn't missed her aim. The clashing sound resonated again through the field and once again Ying had accomplished her goal of hitting her target. A smile formed on her lips as a bolder expression caressed her beautiful ivory face, "I think you missed something this time Roksana!" Ying cheekily said with a smirk, no need to be shy right? Then she once more, headed again towards her position at the "battle field".

Was Aryaan taking on a kid much bigger and probably stronger than him? Yes. Was he afraid? HELL NO. He was gonna knock this kid right on his bum.
With an yell, Aryaan Shamsi rode into the second round of jousts, psyching himself up into the game.
And had the wind knocked right out of him, as the other kid's lance caught him right in the chest, and for a moment, he was knocked backwards from the force of the blow, and it was all he could do to hold on to the broom for dear life as his body was rocked back by the force of the blow.
Somehow, somewhen, the Indian kid manage to keep a grip on his broom and not fall over. As he rounded the corner, he had a big, evil grin on his face."Not bad, dude. Not bad at allllll."
A flexing of his shoulders, a slight adjustment to the lance he had in his hand. It was coming close to the end of this little right. It was almost make or break time again.
"Care to go again? I'd love to try and knock you right into the ground, man"
The curtains fell. And the silence was deafening

Daphne rushed forward, making sure to keep a steady hand on her lance this time. She ended up hitting her opponent, the sound of it hitting the other student's armor filling the air. However, the other's lance also hit her armor, causing her to grunt from the impact. Fortunately, she didn't fall over this movement, regaining her footing and taking a few deep breaths. Daphne didn't look at the other opponents this time, she had just scored points and while she wasn't in the lead, it meant that she still had a chance to win! Daphne glanced down at armor, there was a dent in the middle but still no tears on her dress thankfully.
She was caught off guard by the words of her opponent though, for she hadn't expected him to speak to her at all, let alone thank her. She couldn't help the smile forming on her face, Daphne giving a nod to him as she got back into position. "You too." Daphne didn't say anything more, mainly because she wasn't sure if he'd understand all of her English and there wasn't any time to chitchat. She got back into position, she hoped that her opponent would not gain any points this round so that they'd be even.

It seemed most had run out of steam in this round. Most matches only had one participant serving an action. Some, like Amaris Levine and Jannette Applebottom hadn't even appeared. And even with the matches where both participants appeared, it didn't look like luck was on their side.
Daphne must have been blinded by the sun, failing to ride out towards her opponent. The sun was strong throughout this match. Akihiro must have just caught the last rays glinting off her opponents armour because they failed to lance their opponent.
Botan and Hiro had been placed together after both their opponents had decided to retire from the game. It seemed nerves got the better of Botan, as he missed his opponent by a wide margin. Hiro had nerves of steel, just tipping his lance against his opponent. The moderator was impressed with that one.
Hui-Ying roll seemed to be at an end this round. The first year just seemed out of puff. She like the others failed to lance her opponent. Thankfully for her, Roksana just stood waiting, not a move in sight.
Raizel and Stephen seemed to be one of the most competitive matches. Raizels luck though clearly wasn't on her side. She had missed all three rounds, her lance too big and heavy for the girl to maneuver into a hit. Stephen on the otherhand, a part from this round, had been graced by the gods. He'd been able to hit Raizel two out of three rounds. Far better than the young girl.
The battle of the two Cassie's was coming to an end. Somehow Cassie from Beauxbatons, one of the strongest competitors of the Tourney, got cold feet. She stood there, letting her opponent take a swipe. Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on how you looked at it, Cassie from Hogwarts missed, leaving the older Cassie the winner.
The last match of the round didn't fair much better than all the others. The moderator was looked on in anticipation as both competitors faced each other. Hopefully they would both do something. It was only Aryaan who did so. The moderator thought they'd have a clear shot at hitting, but Verona somehow, through sheer prowess at dodging, made Aryaan miss!
The round now finished, the moderator stood up from their seat. Clapping their hands, the made sure the area was quiet before shouting, "Well done Squires! Congratulations to all the winners! You have defended your honour well. You will be named Knights of the Spring Court."
The moderator waved their hands towards where the unused armour and brooms sat. "Please return you armour and mighty steed once you are finished. Refreshments and food can be found at the delightful Banquet. Feel free to make your way there."

A tip from her opponent and in riding a broom at that. She'll take it.
Raizel always hears that one in class though, balancing your center of gravity. It is one of the basic things to know when learning how to fly a broom. Then again, she does have some trouble doing so. She fell a few times on her broom, heck, she even lost control and crashed into her upperclassman, Elsian Cox. Unforgettable experience that is. The first year Gryffindor looked at Stephen with a smile, nodding in response to him. "I'll try! Thanks for the tip." She responded to him.
She waited for the next round once again but this time, it wasn't just hitting her opponent that she had in mind but avoiding his attacks as well. "Center of gravity…" she muttered to herself while waiting. She was distracted once more. She snapped out of it once the final round was up, shaking her head. Really, what's with her today? She's too distracted and it's making it hard to focus.
Raizel took her position, looking down on the ground as she rode her broom and then holding it tight. Again, she recalled what Stephen said and that's what she tried, balancing herself but that proves to be hard when you're holding a lance and a shield. Still, she tried. Once it had started, she repeated what she did before, charging in but this time, with more focus. She discarded everything else in her mind, focusing only on the game in this final round. Luck however, is still not on her side till the very end. The attack that she went all in just missed but this time at least, she saw her opponent's attack.
The Gryffindor gritted her teeth, her hold on the broom tightening as she tried maneuvering out of Stephen's attack and to her surprise, she actually managed to do that. It's not as much as getting a hit on your opponent but she still felt happy that she managed to move out of his way, being able to use her broom in a good way. That was a victory for her. Well, guess it would've been nice if she at least got hit on the last round but, oh well, it is what it is.
"That was a nice game, and thanks again for the tip. I'll see you around." Raizel said her farewell to her opponent, returning back the equipments that she used before picking up her hat that she left somewhere safe. Where was she… right, food. Finally, she gets to eat, she's been starving since the tourney started. Guess what they say is true, can't fight on an empty stomach.

@Cassie JiangWith a cry, Cassie darted forwards, waving her lightsabre in one hand and reaching forwards with the other. The tip of her lance tapped her opponent's clothing, and she laughed as she pulled her broom back just in time to avoid the tip of the other girl's weapon. "Is that all you've got?" she taunted, a grin spreading over her face as she realised there was no way she could lose now. Either the two of them would draw, or Cassie would win.
With that in mind, Cassie thought she might as well have fun. "You know what?" She dropped her voice to a conspiratory whisper. "How about I make it more even? I won't even move. I'll just stay right here." Usually Cassie wasn't one for throwing away a shot, but she had nothing to lose! So she allowed the younger girl to take a swipe with her lance... and miss.
"Do I win? I win, right?" Cassie put her lightsabre away and held out a hand to her opponent as she dismounted her broom. "Good game!" No, it hadn't really been a fair fight, but it had still been fun. Well, it had been fun for Cassie at least - she couldn't speak for the girl who'd gained no points. "What's your name again?"
