A very had plenty of time to consider the secret contents of the letter.

Two full days had passed, a saturday and a sunday, which had given him plenty of time to consider the contents of the letter and how he would respond. Initially it was both hard to fathom that this mystery person; who seemed to possess some degree of skill and knowledge over avery; and yet perfectly in him to accept these claims. There was a minor concern that again this could be meant for another recipient, and yet the contents again allude to his Hogwarts house and an illustrious family; for which Avery possessed both qualities. Arrogance was a blade indeed, and perhaps this time he had held it too close to his own skin; time would tell.

Too many questions had been conjured within the depths of his mind palace, hours and hours spent considering the weight of written word. They were instantly relatable with their shared views of intermingling of blood and species which seemed heinous to him; more so since the Clark incident, and that perhaps brought out some naivety from him, and then it went on to wave small tidbits at him. Sacred knowledge. The Truth. The Curse. The Legacy. All of which ignited his unhealthy thirst for knowledge and soon reason was thrown out in what was a first during his time here at Hogwarts.

Did Avery wish to speak? - It was not a question that he spent much time on. However risky it might be, he certainly didn’t shy from the invitation to learn more; the adventure alone was worth it.

He had discerned the date of Ostara with a couple of simple questions with the right kind of wack-job people, and he’d planned to go as soon as he got the chance at lunchtime on Monday, the date of the equinox. Once he was at the top of the familiar astronomy tower, he ventured out onto the viewing platform, glancing around to ensure he was alone or could get away with casting a spell without too many questions; he had skipped lunch and was hoping it wasn’t a populated place; it didn’t seem to be when Clark had sucker punched him right where it hurt.

When he felt safe, he’d slip his wand from the concealed wand pocket in his sleeve and point it skyward, and cast the appropriate spell.

“Verdimillious!” He said, as jets of green light shot out from the wand tip; sparks cracking like a beacon as the grand clock tower began its chiming of exactly twelve bells. – He was smart enough not to expect someone apparating into Hogwarts but part of him could be hopeful, as he pocketed his wand and began to descend into the tower and school proper.
This is a semi-closed thread. I am open to one or two people owling me and catching Avery casting this spell for a mysterious purpose. I would prefer if it was someone he knew, and so I will be picky. OWL FIRST.

Even the smallest of our abilities to predict what the future holds for each person are hindered by many mysterious things that mankind is unaware of. However, it is not just that we lack the capacity to comprehend; we also have a tendency to accept the information we are given to be accurate without questioning it. At some time, curiosity has to be sated.

The little Ravenclaw boy found all of these discussions to be absurd. Since curiosity was what prompted power and knowledge, he regarded it in the most elevated reverence. Despite the fact that he continues to emphasise his claim that he is a Slytherclaw even though one of his characteristics outweighs the other; therefore, being organised into Ravenclaw was no longer something new to him.

The Ravenclaw lad had been to the Astronomy tower before; it was not his conventional rendezvous, but there were souvenirs and clandestine communications there that the boy had sought to decipher in the universe for a very long time, albeit it now appears like a probable catastrophe. The wizarding realm may be magical, but it was unable to assist him to fathom every enigma the constellations held, or the clandestine communications they concealed. A distinctive sound of man could be detected casting a spell when he officially made his debut at the Astronomy tower. “Verdimillious!” His mind was perpetually racing with the unusually frequent question of whether a fight had broken out at the Astronomy tower location and if yes, how would he react to the situation. He cautiously walked in the exact direction of where he recognised the voice while pulling out his own 32,1 cm aspen wood and dragon heartstring wand.

The young boy's decision to draw his own wand may have seemed over exaggerated, but he did not want to fall prey to someone else's spell, so he proceeded with caution. Before he reached the precise spot, he noticed a green hue of sparks emanating vividly.

"Who can this be?" he pondered.

Surprise! The boy who seemed to have cast the spell at the tower was a Slytherin who appeared to be by himself. This came as a surprise and wasn't quite expected. He is cognizant of the regulations barring students from casting spells outside of duelling club or the classroom, nevertheless the other boy cannot be held culpable considering everyone does it. Ashley wasn't a saint in this particular situation too.

He said to himself, "Avery?"

Although Ashley and Avery weren't close companions, they were acquainted thanks to their attendance at the duelling match. His pride in supporting Fang-Hui Ming brought up recollections of Avery. Ashley did find him a little aggravating because he was so raucous cheering for the second year Duelist, Although what else could have caused the child to cast a magic out of the blue at this hour?

"Avery Leveret, Slytherin Prefect." Ashley clandestinely smirked, fixed a glance on the other lad, and tilted his wand slightly towards his direction. He scrunched his pupils suspiciously and asked, "What was that just now, if I may ask?" Avery had to explain to Ashley why he was casting the green sparks charm and what justification he might have had for doing so. In this moment, he hoped the youngster wouldn't lie to him. When someone was discovered to be suspicious, there was no justification for lying because adding more lies wouldn't help justify their actions. The Ravenclaw boy was aware of the spell because it was covered in Defence Against the Dark Arts lecture. "You have two minutes to explain what that was," the boy said challenging the Prefect. The other boy was suspicious in every way, and what he did even raised further questions for Ashley.

A very had cast the spell, committing to the consequences and placing himself at the height of the expectations expected of him. A fitting place, it had been. Whilst it wasn’t the schools’ tallest tower, that status was reserved for the tower with the headmaster’s office, it was likely to be the second tallest. He wasn’t too sure how this signal would be useful to the note writer, but he supposed that there was something important he had to learn; the promise of secrets and the identity of their author.

He had barely lowered his wand before he heard the approach of a stranger, to which he shot a dark glare towards the stairs. After all his precautions, he had been followed.

Ashley Montez came prowling out of the shadow, with his wand in his hand which he later used to gesticulate. The look in his eyes was one that Avery identified as one that was going to be a problem, and so his fingers naturally flexed on his own wand and his eyes squinted at him. Of course it was like that Ravenclaw to lurk and stalk, like a rat drawn to the promise of food; of which his was rules and rule-breaking. That’s what Avery thought at least, following the interaction at Hui-Ming’s duel; how could you be so subdued in a sports game? It was either a sign of being unpassionate or pugnacious and here he was; wand drawn. Whatever would be, would be, but Avery wasn’t one to think kindly upon threats both spoken and not.

"Avery Leveret, Slytherin Prefect. - What was that just now, if I may ask?" He gave, "You have two minutes to explain what that was." Ashley followed up, speaking that which his body-language already had.

A snort of derision left his nose. Who on earth did he think he was poking around in his business, and in an ignoble manner too.

“Careful of your tone, Ashley, people with more patience could well interpret you to be a sinister menace." He gave, stepping away from the railing of the tower and trekking down the metal stairs to join the same level that Ashley had entered onto; so as to level with him. His was was still held in his grasp, until he could be sure Ashley wasn’t going to do anything stupid.

”It was the Verdimillious spell. - I was signalling my army of werebats to begin their assault of the castle and slay those that poke their nose in other people’s business.” He said plainly, a half-truth designed to exaggerate and set up another lie masterfully:

”If you must know, it was practice. - I wanted to see how high the sparks went; as the classroom doesn’t provide a particularly clear insight on that front.” He said simply; a reasonable excuse that could well be taken as the truth, which he reinforced by stowing his wand back into his sleeve pocket and dropping all sense of threat or unease.

This would be his plan of action, he didn’t have to say a word; and currently there was no way in which Ashley could prove otherwise. What happened now would certainly lay the foundations of their relationship; firmly.

It was quite clear that Ashley did speak to the other boy in an intimidating manner. Somehow, the conduct of the other boy was suspicious, and he had to provide a legitimate defence for it. It had to be something the youngster would find captivating and reasonable and if Avery dared to tell the boy a lie, it was unclear what would follow.

“Careful of your tone, Ashley, people with more patience could well interpret you to be an sinister menace. "

"Patience, you say?" Avery caught Ashley's quick glance, which was tinged with menace and bloodlust. He grimaced slightly. He, however, was not a Dhampir who yearned for the blood of others; alternatively, he ached to devise an enchantment worth casting upon the other young man. Although Ashley had no animosity towards Avery, there was something about the lad that made him urge the need for a duel.

"I won't make the mistake of underestimating you, Leveret. Though there is something about you that..." The young man was unable to finish the sentence he had begun. He was reluctant to say what it was. That was a lie; Ashley did in fact regard Avery Leveret enthralling. He doesn't appear to drift away from the Slytherin Prefect, but rather gravitates nearer to him every time. Do not misunderstand; it was not love, just some sort of infatuation that Ashley was unaware of and was unable to express. When he wishes to describe anything as seen, words suddenly dissipate in a matter of seconds. What quality of allure did Avery Leveret have?

hm? The boy let out a sigh while continuing to look at Avery in the manner that had been indicated. ”It was the Verdimillious spell. - I was signalling my army of were bats to begin their assault of the castle and slay those that poke their nose in other people’s business.”

Ashley must have appeared to Avery to be some simpleton who knew nothing, or even as a rando who remained oblivious of his environs. He began to wonder why Avery would offer the boy such a flimsy rationale. Does he know Ashley well? The young man had not unintentionally been placed in Ravenclaw, by the way. But at this particular time, Avery needed to step up his "joking game." Ashley wasn't sure whether to laugh, be upset, or be irritated that he was viewed as naive because of the justification given by the other lad. As he directed his wand at the Prefect, he gripped it firmly. He was now obligated to be honest.

"You think I was born yesterday, do ye, mate? Where are the Bats now?" He spoke in a vitriolic tone of voice, making it clear that he was just a little perturbed up. Avery shouldn't have tried to misled Ashley. The fact that Avery had not made an effort to embellish with favourable details or had not thought of a convincing defence infuriated the boy. He appeared to believe Ashley was an idiot for falling for that. Behind his actions lay a secret truth. And nobody was able to summon bats to the castle in that way nor cast a spell randomly. What was Avery up to?

As confusing as it may seem, Ashley and Avery's connection was hazy. Ashley wouldn't have reacted to Avery in this way if only he had told the truth. His interest in the other boy was still rooted firmly in the earth. Nothing would change, yet it appears like the Slytherin Prefect is too shrewd and circumspect. They might support each other if it were feasible, but Avery had to take this relationship where it ought to head. For the time being, virtually nothing is definite.

H is eyes narrowed as the boy directed his wand at him, and his reaction was a natural and insightful opening into his general being. He seemed to hate the idea that he was being threatened, it had happened before, in this very tower, and he had to muster all of himself not to duel with the boy opposite.

It was a disappointing response. Ashley had chosen the path that favoured foresight over insight, he was a stubborn one that wouldn’t back down, even if he took Avery’s exaggeration to be a truth. It was odd that the boy had chosen to fixate on the ‘bat summoning’ fiction, and not the more reasonable lie that came after, one that Avery would inevitably reiterate, but for now he glowered a dark look across at the boy. Not only had he doubled down on something quite unbelievably foolish, but he was brandishing his wand properly now, moments after Avery had stowed his own. Ashley’s reaction, whether he knew it or not, would indeed create the foundations of how their future unfolded; for once bitten, twice shy.

”I would think very carefully about keeping your wand in my face, Montez. He gave in warning, as he had given to Clark. Regardless of how things unfolded, Avery made the promise to himself that this time he’d get a hit in himself. Clark had left him winded and keeled over, a smack to the gonads. Ashley couldn’t do that with a wand, though perhaps he could do worse; Avery didn’t know too much about the boy’s magical ability, but he would find out if forced.

”You look brighter than you are, if you believed that. - I told you, it was practice to see just how high the sparks go, in case I ever needed to use them in a practical environment.” He said carefully, as he approached Ashley and sought to shift his wand–tip aside, non-threateningly. His demeanour was calm, and indicating that he didn’t wish to fight Ashley.

”Do you make a habit of following people or did you just happen upon me here, when we should both be in the hall eating our lunch?” He challenged, crossing his arms over his chest and looking at the boy judgmentally. He was a prefect now, perhaps he needed to signal that he wasn’t afraid to use his newfound power if he needed to, to get his own way.

Anything may have happened between the two lads at that precise time, but even if one of them had managed to push the other into the hospital wing, the fine glow from a cast spell would have been what had been clearing the area. But in this situation, it didn't seem to be the case.

The relationship between the duo, as aforementioned, had not been anything that could be precisely pinpointed as making sense, but the two boys seem to just go with the flow.

" Think very careful about keeping your wand in my face, Montez. " This warning was given by the other boy to the Ravenclaw boy.
Ashley couldn't help but chuckle since the other boy's warnings appeared to have little effect on him or to have bypassed his ears entirely.

"Hm " He extended his wand and tapped Avery's neck with the end of it. I am capable of going beyond, you know?" He grinned sarcastically.

Leveret was then told, "I won't do anything, maybe for now."
The two of them had a complicated connection, and the Ravenclaw lad himself was conflicted because he didn't want to be threatened or come up short to him in any manner.

"You look brighter than you are, if you believed that - I just told you, it was to see how far the sparks go, in a case I ever needed them in a practical environment. "
Ashley simply moved his wand away from the other boy as he softly sighed. He wanted to, but Avery struck him as being a little dubious, so he did not have the slightest faith in his statement. He sincerely hoped he was saying the truth but even if he wasn't, the boy wouldn't have known. However, Avery's composure shows that the boy didn't need to fight just now or perhaps was not even intimidated. The Montez child believed that although the other boy wasn't afraid, he would face penalties if he engaged in impromptu fights with other students as he holds a valuable title at school.

The Prefect of Slytherin then enquired as to whether the lad had been trailing people or if they had just chance to cross paths while they should be having lunch. Before responding, the Ravenclaw boy remained silent for what felt like a brief moment. " Who knows, maybe I'm your stalker," with a mocking sense, he said. He didn't want to continue talking to Avery Leveret, so he walked on, returning to the Great Hall while remaining mute. He secretly hoped they had engaged in a duel together, but today may not have been the day.
