An Unexpected Encounter
It’s a warm and sunny afternoon, so instead of doing her homework, Josephine decided to take a walk outside and relax a bit. She hasn’t done that for ages, and is already feeling somewhat worn out occasionally.
After she exited her common room, she wondered where she should go. Maybe I’ll just go wherever my mood takes me. She thought to herself, and took a small path that she has never come across before. As she was walking, her mind drifted off to her life before entering Hogwarts. She was born in a magical family, so she has never been taken as a freak by her relatives as some muggle-borns were. Instead, her parents taught her a significant amount of interesting facts about Hogwarts and the wizarding world. Everything used to be great, but after she entered Hogwarts, due to her extremely introverted personality and terrible socialization skills, she has barely made any friends yet. Although she does prefer solitude, it won’t hurt to have a few friends who can offer you some support and advice when you need them…
Just then, she felt that her body has just hit something. As she looked up, she saw that she has almost crashed into a tree. What’s more surprising is that there’s another girl sitting under the tree, but didn’t seem to have even noticed her at all. She almost chose to just turn and walk away, but then she thought about what she was thinking of a moments before, and decided to open up a bit. What if this is the chance to actually make a new friend? At least it’s worth a try… “Hi! What are you doing?” She asked, hoping that the other girl would finally notice her presence.

It was really lovely day. Linda took her sketchbook and went out. She decided to not stay inside, so she went to the grounds. It was so great here, so she found a tree and sat under it. She decided to draw what was in front of her. She was so focused. Sketched by pencil and started to fill with color. In such time she could easily not notice anything what was around her. Though it was happening rarely, she wasn't the type to ignore others. She was finishing this drawing as she heard another girl. She looked up and saw a girl standing close to her. Linda felt like she could be offended that she didn't notice her. "Oh hi. I'm sorry for not noticing you. I was just finishing my drawing. Must've been too focused on it." She smiled in a guilty way, hoping this girl wouldn't feel bad now. "Im Linda. Linda Ramirez. What's your name? You can sit close and we could talk. You can also look at my drawing, I don't mind it." Linda smiled now in supporting way. She noticed that this girl would need more time to open up but she didn't mind it at all. After all, friendship with this type of people were the most trustworthy. She felt that the girl is a great person. Maybe they could become friends after some time. Linda didn't force more talking just yet. She always was understanding others and respecting their choices. So she decided to wait what the girl will choose: just sit and look at her drawing or sit and talk. |

An Unexpected Encounter
Josephine studied the girl in front of her for a while. Drawing has always seemed like a great hobby to her, but she has never even been close to being good at it. She has tried to learn before, but no one seemed to be interested in teaching her, and neither of her parents can draw well either.
“Um… Hi, my name is Josephine Acosta, nice to meet you!” Josephine finally snapped out of her thoughts and replied. She hesitated for a while, then decided to accept Linda’s offer and sit down. As she observed how Linda draws, she can’t help but yearn to be able to have such great sketching skills as well.
She thought about the idea of asking Linda to teach her, but she has rarely asked for anyone else’s help except her parents’, so she’s somewhat afraid that Linda might refuse. Eventually, after a few minutes, she decided that Linda seems like the kind of girl who’d love to offer help or guidance to whoever that needs it, so she quietly and nervously asked: “I don’t really know how to draw… Do you mind teaching me?” After she finished, she immediately turned to look at the other girl’s expression, silently hoping that Linda won’t say no to her like the people she had asked before.

"Nice to meet you, Josephine." Linda looked at girl with supporting smile. She noticed that Josephine was very interested in drawing, but there was something she was a bit sad and nervous about. While Linda was wondering what was it, Josephine said quietly and very nervous if she could teach her. Ah, that's what was it. She felt so happy and enthusiastic about the idea itself and looked at the girl, giving her a happy smile. "Surely. Do you want to start now? I have enough paper and I have more materials here, so we can do it together at the same time. I believe you will can do it. Also don't be afraid to ask me if you will need more help. I promise I don't get angry. I will just be so happy to help you, even if it's something already explained. And don't be afraid to try and do mistakes, you know sometimes even what you see as mistake, can be turned into something great." Linda hoped she could let Josephine feel more relaxed. She sometimes was doing wrong movement, but it always appeared to be so awesome at the end. "What would you like to draw? It's important to choose something you really like, otherwise even professional won't make it as great as their usual drawings." |

An Unexpected Encounter
Josephine was taken back by Linda’s enthusiasm. She had thought that she might agree to teach her, but she’d never expected her to be so willing to help! “Thanks for agreeing to teach me!” She said gratefully to Linda. Then she thought about her awful art scores and added worriedly, “I might be quite slow in learning though…”
She remembered hearing Linda say that even mistakes can sometimes turn into something great. Still, I sure do hope that I won’t make too many mistakes. That’s going to be SO embarrassing! She looked around, desperately searching for something that she would like to draw. In the end, her eyes landed on the most obvious, and the hardest topic — Hogwarts castle itself.
“Do you think that I might be able to draw the castle out?” Josephine asked Linda, hoping that she would be able to assure her that she could succeed and give her some confidence. Despite being unusually introverted, she usually believes in herself to a great extent, sometimes even being sort of arrogant (which doesn’t show much in her normal daily life, only in class occasionally). However, when it comes to drawing, it’s really hard to still trust that her own abilities would be enough.

"Oh, that's fine. Just take as much time as you need. You know not all of my drawings are quickly painted. Some are actually taking me more time as I am always wishing to get it perfect." Linda smiled in supporting way. She didn't care how much time it will take. Beside drawing should take some quality time, only something not serious and extremely easy gonna be done in like five minutes. Linda smiled her thoughts. Yeah, especially in the beginning it can take a lot, but everyone is learning some time. It was interesting to try to teach someone to draw. She didn't remember ever doing it, but it should be still alright. Just both of them need to communicate so both understand each other. Hogwarts itself. Just now Linda realized that from all her drawings and times she thought what to draw, she never drew castle. It was so obvious and yet so wonderful. "Yeah, sure you can. Also I am sure you will draw it in excellent way. Though it might take some time, so if you don't mind spending more time in my company let's draw the castle. I think I didn't draw it before, you have a really awesome choice." Linda became once again quite enthusiastic. "Let's make sketch first and then you can decide if you want to paint it, which material like markers, watercolor, pencils or you'll leave it as sketch." Linda decided she will do it with markers, but first sketch. |

An Unexpected Encounter

Josephine can’t help but feel quite proud, getting praise about her great choice of which object to draw. “Sure, I’ll do my best!” She promised to Linda, then picked up a pencil and a piece of paper to draw on.
As she was sketching the outline of the Hogwarts castle, for the first time ever, she realized how stunning it actually was. For all this time she has been at Hogwarts, she was almost always lost in her own thoughts and never took that much notice to her surroundings. Seems like learning to draw is a good choice after all. Maybe I’ll learn to be less oblivious to the people and things around me in daily life!
After approximately 15 minutes, Josephine finally finished her initial sketch of the castle. She held it from a distance and studied it carefully. It definitely can’t be called “accurate”, but at least she drew the main structure out… “Um… What do you think about this? If it’s not good, please tell me what’s wrong so I can fix it. Trust me, I don’t mind criticism.” She gave Linda a quick smile to thank her for her patience, and waited for Linda to remark on her drawing.

"Awesome, take your time." While Josephine was making a sketch, Linda also decided to do a sketch, she didn't add any details as she was going to add them while coloring. Finally Josephine looked more relaxed and happy. Linda smiled. Maybe she didn't expect that someone can actually agree to teach her. Interesting, wha else this girl is wishing and dreaming about but afraid to go for it. Linda didn't notice how she got lost in thoughts for a while, but then she looked at how Josephine was doing. It was quite good. Initial sketch shouldn't be completely accurate. After all it's just initial. And this girl said she can't draw. Linda tried to keep smiling in supporting way. She knew if she will stop smiling, she will look too serious and it can scare Josephine making her think she's doing something wrong. "As it is initial sketch, you did it more than great. Now leave pencil for a while and look at castle. Look at it's details, choose first some bigger details like maybe windows and so on and then smaller ones. After you are sure you noticed everything, as much as you want in your drawing to be, choose one detail. Look at it once more and try to add it to your sketch. And one by one without hurrying just keep sketching till you drew all details you want to see." Linda smiled even more. It was going in a great way and she was happy for it. Hogwarts castle has many beautiful details in it that require focus to notice them. We don't notice things that are so simple, maybe that's why more ccan't find their happiness. |

An Unexpected Encounter

Josephine felt quite relieved that Linda thought her sketch was acceptable, after all, no one had ever said that her drawing skills were good. Maybe she really has a chance to become exceptional at drawing eventually?
Suddenly, a thought came across her mind: Could she and Linda actually become good friends one day? Now that she came to think about it, she realized that Linda is the prefect sort of friend for her. She has always either immersed herself in loads of books and homework, or hang out alone, taking a walk around the school grounds. The desirable friend for her isn’t another introverted and aloof person, but someone energetic, outgoing and sociable…
Just then, she heard Linda offer her some advice on the next step of how to draw the castle vividly, so she cut of her thoughts and listened carefully. She marveled at how adept Linda sounded, as if she’s been drawing for a long time. “You know, you sound like an expert when you’re giving suggestions.” Josephine half-jokingly praised. She began to relax a bit around Linda and could finally concentrate entirely on the drawing in her hands instead of worrying that she might do something embarrassing. She again lifted her head to take in all the details of the castle, and depicted them one by one on her paper. So far, everything is definitely going on better than she had expected!

An Unexpected Encounter

"I am drawing already for a long time, so by now I learned something I find really useful for anyone who wants to draw or drawing already. But you are fast-learning and already doing it in a really nice way. So I think it's the matter of both of us." Linda smiled.
She saw that Josephine was now more relaxed and more comfortable with being around Linda. Maybe they could really become friends?
"Can you tell me something about yourself? Anything you want to share. I just thought maybe we could be friends, if you want for sure." Linda asked as usual making her question opened. She just wanted to at least know if Josephine also wanted to become friends.
Linda let Josephine focus on details and sketch them while sketching it herself. Perhaps she sketched it already before from far, but surely she didn't sketch it this way before.
She looked at Josephine's sketch and it was appearing to be really great. Maybe girl was told too much that drawing is not for her. Linda couldn't understand it because she saw really talented person close to her.
It was nice to have a friend who could sit like this and draw together. Perhaps some day they could draw together something by halves.
