(Un)Welcome back!
Clair looked hurt when Ava had revealed her actions. Ava herself seemed to contain her anger down seeing Clair’s reaction. Or maybe she realized the full weight of her actions, who knew. It was more painful to see the hurt on Clair’s face than to suffer through the anger. Ava could deal with anger. Heck, she lived in anger. She acted in anger, she felt anger, anger was directed towards her. She could deal with anger. But hurt, that was a whole different story. People didn’t feel sad when they were around Ava, they always ended up angry. But this girl--Clair, didn’t. She was just hurt.
"We all make mistakes, what is important is do we learn from our mistakes?" That was what Ava had been telling everyone, and finally, finally, someone else said it without her needing to tell them first. It made all the difference for Ava, and she finally settled back into the chair. "Thank you," she whispered, eyes tearing up. Had she finally found someone--although it was only one person--someone who felt sympathy?
"I have to ask one thing though, was Colin there? He never said anything." Ava realized that this was Clair Clair. Everyone knew that Colin was headover heels for the girl, but Ava was just now connecting the dots. "Yes, Colin was t-t-here. He w-w-was--" Ava seemed to be somewhere else, replaying the fateful night. She shook her head fiercely, a shock of red pulsing through her hair. She couldn’t go down that rabbit hole, all it got her was nightmares and hard feelings that she had nothing to do with. "He was right there." She didn’t realize she had whispered that last part.

(Un)Welcome back!

Clair would never wish to make the other girl sad, but it seemed that she was sad. Tears were a tricky subject for Clair, they confused her to some level. She could not find a logical reason why when your sad water would fall from your eyes. Maybe later she would one day understand it, but currently she did not and she had decided to try to not be near tears as much as possible. But now Ava was close to tears, Clair felt bad, had she made the Slytherin cry?
"I'm sorry, I did not mean to make you upset." Clair said softly, "May I give you a hug?" she asked.
The ravenclaw nodded slowly, "He never told me." she said softly, "He never said a word about it."
The boy was so going to hear about this, What would she do if he had been hurt? surely Ava would have never hurt him, but of course if there was a spell cast it could have missed its target and hit Colin, it could have hurt him. "I'm so sorry Ava." she whispered, "I should not have asked, You probably want to forget that night."
Clair felt bad for the girl, she would be remembered for a long time as the girl who tried to injure another student, at least until someone else did something equally as dangerous.
Clair could only hope that time would melt away the rumors and Ava would not tear herself up because of them. Guilt was enough to deal with.

Clair was just so … sweet. There was no better way to describe the sweet ravenclaw’s demeanor, and this girl would have done well in hufflepuff. "I'm sorry, I did not mean to make you upset. May I give you a hug?" Ava blinked hard, trying to banish the salty water from her eyes. It was everything that Ava didn’t want to be. Needy and emotional. But she nodded anyway, sniffling. It was hard to stay by her new standards and disregard how she had acted for the past 12 years of her life, but everyone needed a hug from time to time.
Ava needed more friends such as this one in her life. Kind, loving friends. She ought to enlist all of the hufflepuffs as friends, if they were all like this ravenclaw.
It was hard not to relive the bad memories that swarmed her head. The ones she had tried to banish but had failed terribly. More times than not, Ava was fighting a battle with her own conscience. Every battle makes you stronger, that was what they said. But she was afraid these unseen battles were tearing her down. Brick. By. Brick.
“I can see why he didn’t…” she mused quietly, quickly adding “It must be a touchy subject.” so that Clair didn’t think it was her own fault that Colin hadn’t said a word.
Ava looked over Clair’s shoulders, reliving the night, specifically the moment when Colin came into the picture. “He flippendo’d me across the room,” she admitted, remembering the sudden jolt of moving across the room. “Colin’s really loyal. You’re lucky to have him. Don’t ever loose him.” She looked back at Clair, eyes welling with tears yet again. Did she have anyone like that? No, even Charlie hadn’t stayed loyal. All it took was the right situation to destroy one’s loyalty, and some had more than others.

The Ravenclaw hugged Ava. Everyone needed a good hug every once in a while, Clair was willing to offer them to anyone in need. In a sense, she was also fighting anyone who though Ava was dangerous,
hugging a almost murderer had never been on Clair's to do-list, but here she was with Ava anyone could see and if they wanted to tell the rest of the school let them. It was no lie, and if anything it would only prove that Ava was not evil.
Clair nodded slightly, "Yeah, and he has a lot on his plate. He probably did not to worry me." Clair smiled slightly, "He is very loyal, I am indeed lucky to have a friend like him." She thought for a moment, poor Ava must either have really great friends to stick with her or none at all, she did not want to ask incase it would be a touchy question. She decided that it was not a place to stick her nose in either. "Want to have Lunch or Dinner together?" she offered, a meal with another person always felt nice, but she would understand if Ava did not want to hang out with a girl who had made her cry.

Clair was great. She wrapped Ava in a hug, and it was just what Ava needed. She closed her eyes and just … didn’t think. She just sat calmly enveloped in the hug, and she didn’t have to care what others thought. If they knew Clair, they would understand. Right?
Ava didn’t want to pull away. She just wanted to stay forever, where she couldn’t be bothered with real life problems. Like her sort of friend. Or the rumors about her going around the school. Or everything else that she didn’t want to think about.
But she couldn’t. She couldn’t hide out from life. It would catch up to her. It would always catch up to her. Clair was a bubble, and bubbles could be popped.
Ava pulled away from the hug, somewhat sadly, and focused on a productive conversation. Clair had made her feel much better though. She felt ready to face the world again.
“You should talk to him, Clair. Ask him why he didn’t say anything.” It was the right thing to do. The only right thing to do. Just like Ava learned, you couldn’t hide from what needed to be faced.
Ava paused and eyed Clair. Not many people offered to eat with an almost murderer. “I--I would love that.”

(Un)Welcome back!

Hugs, sometimes they were the best therapy, the best way to bond two random humans together for a few seconds and fill each with a pleasant, warm cozy feeling of being cared for. Hugs had a power that had been proven scientifically to improve mental health and make people feel better. The human body really was cool, the power it had to regulate another persons heart when given a long hug was cool to say the least.
The Ravenclaw smiled, "I will ask him." she replied, oh she would ask him, and he better have a good reason for not telling her beyond 'i got busy and forgot' or 'i did not want to worry you'
Clair grinned "Awesome! which time would be better for you? I'm free for both meals." If Ava was u sure Clair could just meet her there and they could eat, "We can also maybe go outside if you'd rather eat outdoors." She knew there would be less watchful eyes and gabbing mouths of they ate outside, but then again if Ava did not mind the stares and whispers neither did Clair.
It was not that Clair liked being in the spotlight, but she liked helping people be ok with it, she wanted people to feel good about themselves no matter what others said.

Ava was glad that Clair was going to ask Colin. After all, Ava wouldn’t be happy if her companion didn’t share a large event. Or fact. Like Charlie, who had said in her letters that she was keeping something. It was true that Ava had been keeping something as well, but it wouldn’t be a fair trade. Ava giving away her sisters existence, only for Charlie to tell her something pointless like that she couldn’t eat shrimp or something. But if it had been bigger than that…why had Charlie kept it from Ava?
Ava couldn’t seem to stay focused on Clair. Her mind kept on drifting to the ruins that were Charlie and her’s friendship. She hoped Clair couldn’t see her distraction, although it was pretty obvious.
Ava was given the choice of which meal she wanted to meet for. It was strange, having choices like this again. Most people expected her to do what they said, knowing that she had no means to retaliate. “How does lunch sound?” Ava offered to Clair, although her eyes told a different story. Her eyes said that she wanted to stay with Clair for awhile longer, but not to hide out from the world.
Not to hide out from the world, but to open her world to another.

Clair watched as Ava seemed to get lost in her thoughts, she could not blame the younger girl, if she was a betting girl she would bet that Ava's mind was full of the past few months. Clair's mind wandered as well, it wandered towards Colin, how had her mind gotten into such a habit of thinking about that boy? She thought about what he would say when she confronted him, or more brought it up. There would need to be a perfect time to ask him why he had withheld such info from her, she had really hoped they could be honest and open with each other.
She came out of her thoughts about him when Ava spoke again, she offered Lunch.
"Sounds great!" Clair noticed something in Ava's eyes, was it maybe fear? Or nerves? Clair pushed the thought away, the poor Slytherin could have a millions reasons to be nervous, Clair certainly would be looking behind her shoulder every few minutes if she had attempted murder. You never know who is coming for revenge, Clair would not put it past a group of Slytherins to get some stupid idea into their head and think it would work with only a half formed plan. Not everyone was able to figure out when enough was enough, that they had gone to far. Luckly, it seemed Ava had been able to figure that out last second.
The broom racer ran her hand over her other arm, "I'll meet you there then?"

Even Clair seemed a little bit distracted, but that was fine with Ava. No one’s life could be all sunshine and rainbows. Ava had not a single clue towards what could be bothering Clair, but she assumed it had something to do with their conversation. Which meant it either involved her or … Colin. Colin made the most logical sense, Ava reasoned, trying to shake the worry that Clair might be thinking terrible things about Ava.
Clair replied as enthusiastically as ever, and Ava bit her lip. Should she ask Clair to stay? She didn’t want to take up all of Clair’s day with her own problems, she had already wasted Clair’s time. But Clair was just so sweet, and kind, and such a great listener. Who wouldn’t want to hang out with that sort of person? “Yes, so great…” Ava repeated quietly, trying to decide what to do.
If she was going to ask, she was going to have to ask soon. Because Clair had just asked if she wanted to meet then. She bit her lip harder, a drop of blood squeezing from a gash in her inside lip. Ava released the pressure and opened her mouth as if to say something but nothing came out. She cleared her throat and tried again. “Yep, I’ll see you there..” Ava replied sadly.

Clair quickly caught on to Ava's sudden quietness, had she said something wrong? She mentally replayed their conversation over a few times over in her head, the only thing she could think of that maybe upset the younger girl was getting invited to lunch. Concern covered Clair's face. Had she made the other girl feel like she had to have lunch? She did not want to pressure Ava into anything she did not want to do.
"If, if you don't want to have lunch with me, please don't feel any pressure to do so." The broom racer spoke softly and kindly, yet not in a way that sounded like she pitied Ava for her sudden quietness.
Feeling guilty that she had probably caused Ava's sudden quietness Clair was unsure what to do, on one hand she could try to say something more, she could say sorry, but what was the point when she only had the faintest idea of what she may or may not have said, or if it was even her fault.
She ran a hand over her arm, something that was becoming more and more of a habit whenever she was unsure what she wanted or needed to do.
