"Why do I have to be here, I'm not even going to Hogwarts." Levi's sister Kahira Hawthorne was most definitely pouting and putting on her version of a sad face after having been dragged onto Platform 9 3/4.
"Because, darling, we're supporting your brother on this next step in his magical journey." His mother sternly replied to her, before flashing him a dazzling smile. She grabbed his cheeks. "Now, Levi, promise you'll be good." Two short kisses landed on his forehead, while his father patted his wife on the back.
"Yes, yes. No need to treat him like a little boy anymore. He's almost a man now. Going to Hogwarts, spending seven years in Slytherin." His father's moustache bristled, indicating that the man was smiling slightly.
"I do need to be Sorted first, father." Levi reminded him. To be frank, Levi was quite nervous about the Sorting ceremony. His parents had obviously explained to him that all he had to do was sit on a stool and wear a hat for a second, before it would exclaim which House he'd be in. And no Hawthorne had ever gone to any House other than Slytherin. But still. Levi sometimes didn't really feel like a true Hawthorne.
"Right, let's get your things on the train, shall we?" His father did something he hadn't previously seen him do: lift Levi's bags for him, all on his own, with no help from servants. Levi took it as his own cue to grab one of the many pieces of luggage he had with him, stuffed to the brim with Slytherin and Hawthorne memorabilia.
As they were quite early at the platform - Hawthorne's were always on time - Levi had his pick of a nice empty train cart. Six seats were available still, while he and his father put his luggage at the top part of the cabin. His father cast a quick glance on him, while Levi stared at the room. "Don't worry, my son. You're going to do great things in Slytherin. Just like your old man, and your grandfather, and his grandfather." They were some of the kindest words Levi had ever heard him say. He nodded.
"Thanks, dad."
Slowly, they made their way back towards the platform where his mother and sister were still waiting. He could see the train was starting to fill up more and saw several families in passing that he knew. He hoped some of the children would see his luggage and the Hawthorne family crest and realize that was the place to be. You could never be sure with a new school. He didn't want to be stuck with the muggleborns who had no clue what magic even was. "Mother, father." He gave them a bright smile. "Kahira." She only received a little one. "Thank you for bringing me. I'll see you at Christmas." His mother gave him a hug and his father chose a shoulder pat.
"Take care, and don't forget to write!" His mother closed off, before shooing him onto the train once more.
Before he knew it, the train was put in motion and he was waving off his family, as the halls of the train were filling with students who were eager to greet each other again after such a long time. And those who - just like him - had no idea what they were in for just yet. He walked back over to the cabin he knew his luggage was in, and noticed that it had filled up just like the other compartments had.

Megara had been attending the annual trip to the Hogwarts Express for years now, but this time was different. Instead of returning home with her parents and younger sister, she would be climbing aboard the vast train that would take her to the beginning of this new journey. She followed her older sisters across the platform, keeping her gaze locked on the blue and gold memorabilia spilling out of each of her sister's trunks. She expected that this time next year, her trunks would be similarly overflowing with green and silver pieces. As they approached the stairs leading up to the train, her oldest sister brought her cart to a stop and turned to look at her family behind her.
"Since we have so much to carry onto the train, why don't we just go ahead and say our goodbyes?" It was Este's fifth year at Hogwarts, and the heartfeltness of the annual goodbyes had started to wear off on her. In true teenage fashion, she carried more about catching up with her peers and was eager to be rid of her parents and baby sister.
Lark, the second oldest Archeron, bit her lip nervously and glanced between her two Hogwarts-bound sisters and her parents, nervous that tension was brewing. Their parents were not known for quick farewells, and they would likely take up more of Este's time than she had hoped. Their mother gave her eldest daughter a sad smile and a small nod. Megara and her sisters rotated between their parents and youngest sister, giving various lengths of goodbyes and hugs. Megara was surprised at how long and tightly her mother held onto her. After breaking the embrace, her mother held her at arm's length and whispered, "Be good, please."
The Archeron's reached a lull in their goodbye ceremony, and Este took her opportunity to gather her belongings and haul them up into the train. Megara trailed behind her two sisters, barely managing to keep a hold of everything. Her sisters each disappeared into separate compartments, filled with the friends they had made over the years. Megara dragged her belongings further and further down the train, unsure of the best approach for finding a seat. She eventually stumbled across a half-full compartment that was decked out in enough silver and green to cement the cabin as belonging to Slytherins. She clumsily shoved her trunk into the overhead compartment and squeezed into an empty spot next to the door. The other students were already immersed in their own conversation, leading Megara to question if this had been the best decision. She started to get up and move to another cabin, but the train jolted to life and through her back into her spot.
Guess I'm stuck here, she thought nervously. Just then, a boy who appeared to be her age approached the cabin entrance. The compartment seemed quite full already, but she figured she could open up a spot if she scooted closer to the glass. She turned to the boy before doing so and asked, "Looking for a spot?"

The magnitude of platform 9 and 3/4 baffled Isabel. Obviously she'd been to kings cross before, but the wizarding world was relatively new to her. The bustle of wizards from all over the kingdom tugging around huge trolleys and pets, saying goodbye to their families and rushing onto the train was fascinating. She turned around to her parents and sister, who stuck out slightly in their muggle clothing. Her mother, like always, was wearing an old and stained pair of overalls, dreadlocks twisted into a knot at the back of her head and slender glasses perched atop her nose. Her father was wearing jeans and a shearling jacket that smelled like metal, smoke and fire as she hugged him tight, trying to keep her eyes dry. 'I'm going to miss you so much.' Isabel told her parents, giving them a watery smile. 'I'll write often.' she promised, looking at her sister, who was smiling proudly. 'They use owls to send mail, so please let them in' she told them with a half sob half chuckle, before hugging her sister tightly.
Behind her she heard a whistle; the train was about to leave. 'I have to go.' she stated as she grabbed the handle of her trunk and slunk her bag over her shoulders. Isabel made her way to the carriage entrance, her freckled cheeks red with excitement. 'See you at Christmas!' she yelled, waving from the train before stepping in and finding a cabin that seemed to already have some people in it. She'd left her trunks in the storing compartment in the hall. Just as she came in and tried to get herself situated, a girl had stood up, and the train jolted into motion, causing them both to be thrown onto their seats. Laughing with the girl Isabel mused 'I guess we're stuck here.' as she smoothed down her curls which had gotten frizzy from all the hugging. The girl opposite to her seemed somewhat nervous, and looked at the door where a boy their age stood.
"Looking for a spot?" the other girl offered while scooting closer to the glass. Isabel tucked in her legs to make space for the boy to sit down and smiled at him. 'It's a bit cosy in here' she said referring to the other students in the carriage.

He was almost considering turning back around and leaving for a different compartment, even though his luggage would be stuck in this one when a girl sitting right beside the door spoke up. “Looking for a spot?” Another girl, who sat right across, tucked in her legs, making room for him. He obviously couldn’t reject the offer.
“It’s a bit cosy in here”, the other girl remarked. Levi laughed a little.
“Good thing I’m comfy with being close to you.” He sat down, trying to sit a little wide-legged, which was nearly impossible. “So, now that we’re all comfortable…” He was quite certain with his length there was enough room for the girl across to stretch her legs again.
“I’m Levi. Levi Hawthorne, from the potions business with the same last name. You’ve probably heard of it, my father is very successful.” He knew it sounded a bit arrogant, but considering they’d all be Sorted in a few hours, he tried to put his best Slytherin foot forward. “Of course he belonged to the most successful House. Slytherin. Like the rest of our family. Everyone has gone there, so I’m certain I’ll end up there as well. How about you two? What magical histories do you have? What House will you go to?”
He hoped they would both end up in Slytherin. After all, his suitcase truly did not leave much guessing as to where his allegiance already was. The green and silver was visible and he’d seen a lot of other Slytherin memorabilia. If he was right, the girls wouldn’t mind it and possibly even be used to the ambition that fitted his future House. “Oh, and while I’m asking the questions now anyway. What do your families do?”

“It’s a bit cosy in here,” another girl in the carriage remarked, causing the boy to laugh.
“Good thing I’m comfy with being close to you,” he joked as he sat down on the cramped bench. “So, now that we’re all comfortable…” “I’m Levi. Levi Hawthorne, from the potions business with the same last name. You’ve probably heard of it, my father is very successful.”
Although Megara just met the boy, she caught her eyes rolling upward. She wondered if his comment would have made the impression he intended if she was a pureblood and was more immersed in Wizarding culture.
He continued, “Of course he belonged to the most successful House. Slytherin. Like the rest of our family. Everyone has gone there, so I’m certain I’ll end up there as well. How about you two? What magical histories do you have? What House will you go to?”
Megara looked at the other girl who had spoken up, hoping she would go first. Before either girl could speak up, Levi threw one more question into the ring. “Oh, and while I’m asking the questions now anyway. What do your families do?”
Megara decided to go ahead and jump in, seeing as Levi had already felt comfortable to strike up a conversation. Just like him, she was riding on the assumption that she would also be sorted into Slytherin, so she might as well go ahead and make a friend in her future house.
"Well, I'm Megara Archeron. I don't think there's any reason to have heard of my family before. My dad was a Ravenclaw, and he works in Muggle relations. My mum is a Muggle, actually, so you can imagine how they met. She was an only child, so she always wanted to stay at home and raise a bunch of children. We've been living in the Muggle world as long as I can remember so that we can be close to my mum's family. My older sister's are in Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff, but I'm sure I'll be a Slytherin." Megara paused for a moment, hoping she hadn't said too much or came off as rambling. "My family all agrees I'm mischievous. Determined too," she added with a smirk.
"How about you?" she asked, turning to the other girl.

The boy hesitated for a second before deciding to join them anyways. “Good thing I’m comfy with being close to you.” His response to her remark stuck her as slightly strange, they didn't already know each other did they? No, that'd be impossible. She smiled brightly at him nevertheless, and small dimples showed up near her mouth. The curly haired boy settled in and Isabel relaxed her legs again. “I’m Levi. Levi Hawthorne," the boy across from her said and added that his last name was well known. Trying not to scrunch her eyebrows in confusion Isabel just nodded. She'd already been afraid of this happening, that all the kids around her would reference things from a world that she hadn't even known existed until months ago and she'd either have to pretend she understood or have to ask at risk of being laughed at.
“Of course he belonged to the most successful House. Slytherin. Like the rest of our family." Isabel made a mental note of that; Slytherin was the most successful house. She'd read a bit on the school in her acceptance letter and in the books she got in Diagon Alley last week, but obviously that information was all filtered. Students that had siblings and families from the school would always know better. Turning the answer he'd just given into a question, Levi looked at her and the other girl. Smiling to hide her nerves Isabel gestured for the other girl to go first. She'd gauge her answer and know what to say after. This was her first opportunity to make friends, better not ruin it.
"Well, I'm Megara Archeron. I don't think there's any reason to have heard of my family before." this relieved Isabel. Even though her own family was somewhat well known in certain circles of the muggle world, not having wizard parents felt like a disadvantage. "We've been living in the Muggle world as long as I can remember so that we can be close to my mum's family. My older sister's are in Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff, but I'm sure I'll be a Slytherin." Slytherin seemed like a really popular house. She'd seen the older students boarding the train in their robes, but the colours seemed equally present. "That must be so nice, to have your sisters around. What year are they in?" Isabel asked, trying not to interrupt the story. "My family all agrees I'm mischievous. Determined too," Megara said with a little smirk. Now there's something she liked. Isabel was planning on taking school very seriously, but a little mischief every now and then wouldn't hurt too much would it? "How about you?" the brown haired girl asked turning in her direction.
'My name is Isabel, Wiseacre.' she said giving both of them a radiant smile.
'My parents are goldsmiths, they own an atelier and shop in Leeds. They mostly provide high end luxury and design pieces for fashion houses or stylists.' she answered, deciding to skip over magical history, and glanced at the dainty ring on her finger. A small ruby in a beautifully decorated gold setting. Glancing at Levi she folded her hands into her lap to keep them from fidgeting. "I'm honestly not sure what house I'll go to, maybe Slytherin too, you guys seem to be fans."
