Tysmmm lol words from the wise- =-=Colin McCoire wrote: 12 May 2023, 01:26Hi Akina! Every single person here can relate!! I don't know your age, but you are describing one of the most basic facts about growing up -- that of maturing into your own person.Akina Briarwood wrote: 12 May 2023, 01:01 lol sorry to break up this random reunion but i kinda feel like pouring my heart out to a forum so i can see if anyone else relates.
my parents are judging me from what i wear, and its so annoying. they keep saying stuff like "People are going to bully you if you wear stuff like that!" or "bullies target those type of people that wear what you're wearing"
seriously, it is so annoying! I have my own path to follow, and they cant just write my destiny for me! im my own person. can anyone else relate?
From the outside, I can see both your and your parents perspectives. You're feeling annoyed, maybe disrespected, maybe like yhey don't get you at all.
Trust me: they get you and they love you. Far deeper than you'll ever get until you have your own kids, and come in here pouring your heart out about how they're growing up!
Sometimes what we see when we're kids is seen very differently by our parents. I don't know what the clothes are, but there may very well be a good reason for their reaction. Sometimes kids do bully others because of their clothes. Sometimes they steal or even kill other over clothing. Your parents want to protect you.
And you want to grow up into your own person, with your own will and your own autonomy!
Consider this squabble over clothes as a way for you to demonstrate your maturity? Give it a day while you think. Then go to your mom and dad and converse! Bring a plan with you. Talk about what their concerns are. Express yours. Be respectful. Suggest an alternative and discuss a compromise.
Finding your path is not easy (and really, we never stop seeking it, never stop maturing); but showing your respect for parents and your maturity in yourself will make those transitions so much more fruitful for you! Just keep in mind the reasons they're doing these things!
You may not get everything you want right away, but I can say that a little humility, empathy and respect will serve you well!
