Apart from begging, you can set up a shop to earn money. Pay attention to the monthly rewards for house points --- sometimes the rewards can be pretty high. You can find some paid positions around school, too. Errands also occasionally have monetary rewards.
Best way, though, is just check back every day for the 10/- as that really adds up quickly!

Shops are generally the best way. People will get mad/annoyed with begging/asking/insisting.
We also have errands that pay something out sometimes.
We have rewards for winning the house cup or being among the top three earners and some months this is pure money or something that can be sold.
